Hello all.

Cloudy low 30's here.

A quick post to welcome back Phish. I missed you and your inspiration. Glad all is well.

Got my YORK badge in the mail yesterday. I'm looking forward to a few days away and a visit with some of you.

Best keep on moving.

Prayers for those in need.

I had chipotle cheese-steak pasta for lunch. I added some of my special hot sauce to it and man was that good! Good and hot! I'm still sweating. I did some clean-up work on the layout this morning. I can see more of it now. There's still quite a ways to go though.

Contractors are at my nieces new home (formerly my parents house) starting the tear-out on the west wing (my father lives in the newer east wing). All the ceiling tile, paneling and floor covering in the west wing has to go. After that the wiring will be brought up to code (currently pre-1970). That means grounded three prong outlets! Before today the only room in the west wing that had them was my fathers office and that was only on one wall. We had put down an eight foot grounding rod outside and run a heavy copper wire inside to ground those three receptacles. That put an end to fried electronics from lightning, in that room at least. The entire west wing is to be remodeled. No more paneling. Sheetrock will be going up. Two full bathrooms will be combined to make one large bathroom. Part of the wall between a large den and what was my fathers office will be removed so it's one very large room. That's all I know for now.

Kev - scroll about 2/3 down this page (look for the post from user jivy99) and you have your answer - it can be done, but you have to take the truck to the dealer... also - you maybe satisfied with one of the other DIC settings. http://chevroletforum.com/forum/silverado-fullsize-pick-ups-21/disable-auto-door-locks-2006-silverado-2445/

This is one reason I like my BMWs, there are so many customizable features. I just wish my door lock actuator hadn't failed on the driver's front door and I could figure out how to pop the panel and replace it... oh well... I'm not paying over $300 to have it fixed and will just deal with it till I trade the car in. Next one won't be a BMW because I need an SUV, thinking either Toyota Highlander, Lincoln MKX, Nissan Pathfinder, or Dodge Durango. Kinda leaning toward the Dodge or Lincoln right now - like the size of the Durango, but like the styling and FWD of the MKX...

Banks - finally remembered to renew my TCA Membership and order by York badge after TheQ reminded me about it! Got that done last week, still waiting for new Membership and Badge... last year I renewed and ordered the badge on the same day (like this year) and the Badge arrived first... we'll see if it happens again!

Got the IT'S A BOY car ordered on Monday, arrived today. Now have to find appropriate pics of Christina (for her car) and Matthew (for his car) and get them finished.

Christina will be 19months old tomorrow... wow time has really flown by!

This is what SHE chose to wear to daycare today

YES she is a girl!

Brent......go for the Lincoln MKT, not the MKZ.  The MKT is larger and will accomodate 4-5 adults (or 2 car seats) plus a lot more luggage capacity (plus strollers, diaper bags, toys, coolers, etc.).  If you need the additional passenger capacity, the MKT comes with a deployable (or fold flat) third row seat (will seat 7 and still have room for luggage).  Of course, it has AWD.  And since you might be feeling sorry for yourself moving to a more "family friendly" vehicle, the MKT comes with a 3.5L twin turbocharged V6 that develops somewhere in the vicinity of 350 horsepower and a like figure for torque.....perfect for towing the boat and the camper you will be buying and/or keeping pace with the Beemers out on the road..  Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

Yesterday afternoon I found out something I did not know about the new Silverado. I went up to the mailbox to take it off of the post so I could fix the door hinge. Anyway I pulled off to the side of the street, put on the 4 way flashers, shut off the truck, left the keys in the ignition and walked to the mailbox. (NEVER DO THIS) Surprise  I was taking the screws out that hold the mailbox to the post and the truck horn honks once??? Hmm  What??  Confused   I walk over to the truck and it has locked itself. Bang Head   Bang Head   Oops - Sign   Well as some of you know our driveway is ½ mile long. It is cold and I don’t have my heavy winter gear on.  Tongue Tied  Well anyway I got a nice one-mile walk in that I had not planned on by the time I got back to the house for the extra set of keys.   Sad  BTW I did braze a flat washer to the mailbox door and got it fixed. KEV........there are so many function settings the owner can choose on newer vehicles, accessed through the DIC (driver's information control)  menus, or even disable them if desired.  Explains why the owners' manuals on cars are now the size of phone books.

My SRX has a separate manual just to cover the dvd/navigation/surround sound systems!!!!  So don't feel bad.

I probably don't know half of the features that are on my vehicle.  I have hands-free voice command controls on some of the car's functions that I have not yet started to play with!!!! SurpriseBang Head

Remember when the owners manual was fifteen, twenty pages tops?

Good Evening;

I have been a bit busy the last couple of days. Took mom for chemo yesterday and school at night. Today I had lunch with 3 of the guys that I worked with. I am glad that I retired. tonight it is at Mom's. Took care of the chores that had to be done and now it is time to head to the basement to my layout done there run trains and make repairs to the few pieces that I brought.

Jake; Enjoy the show and good luck on your quest. I am servicing one of my 2055s tonight. Great runner.

Jack: I had to laugh when you mentioned noises with Maximus. Mack has no problems with noises and he will sit and watch the trains with me. Start up the vacuum and he is GONE. Of course you are not going to find and incriminating evidence when it involves Ray and me. Cool

SpMan, Ray, Prayers for your friends wife and the 90 year old stroke victim.

Laz, They miss me but they will survive.

Jim SPhish: Good to hear from you!

Roy, Hope to see you at York!

Brent: She is a GIRL!!!! Good Luck!

Everyone have a Great Night!

Quick run by...Drill tonight...

Dinner? 3 chili dogs mashed potatoes and corn...Parents are sneaking into North Carolina as we speak...

Brent - FYI The Durango and the Grand Cherokee are BOTH ML350 clones....which means excepting for the powertrains and styling, its all Mercedes Benz.  Suspensions and such, all from the ill fated "merger of equals"....Grumpy

Jack - I had tyhe 'runner painted at Maaco and yes I PAID for it.  I had my race car painted at one and had a car show the next day...and I let 'em have it..it was terrible and told everyone at the show about it.  I got a complete repaint  gratis....the expensive one at that.

off to change and head to the land of red trucks...

AF Ray - Congas

GOOD TO SEE YOU JIM PHISH!!!!!

Back from the lake house so I can do the March Pot.  No, actually so I can fly to Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow AM.

I see the Yanks have been busy at their favorite passtime.  Blowing and plowing snow. Yes Big Smile Devil

KEV, had a Chevy rental car in Ft. Worth that kept doing the same.  Pulled over to shoot some train photos and got out, keys in ignition and doors locked.  Did it three times.  Luckly, the window was down all three times.

Now the 4 Runner will not lock by remote with keys in the ignition or doors ajar.  Also will not lock with no one in the driver's seat and engine running.

Stay warm.

Yeah,   on the truck,  It should not lock the doors when the key is still in the ignition.?? What Brent posted about is something I know and I have mine set to lock the doors when I am doing 8 mph. This is not the same, I had the truck off and was out of it when it decided to do it's own thing???  I spent 2 hours today trying to make the truck do it again. Never happened??? Hmm  Must be a glitch of some sort. I will ask the next time I go to work at the dealership.Hmm

'Ello! Nice to be on again.

Anyway, construction on the P-38 has taken a detour. It's wings started to pit, so I needed to delay construction and add some body putty. It's coming out alright. Since the rivets got hidden, I am planning to add some rivet decals once I get some.

Harold, I'm on day two of the crud, word on the street its a three day event, although the wife has had it BAD for over a week

Well, the abandoned three and half legged cat came back tonight and waltzed right in the house.  I have the  poor guy in the bathroom, will call the vet in AM   He had no fear of the other cats although they had no issue growling and letting him know this is THERE house.   I want to keep him separated until I can get a FIV test done then see what the vet says about his disfigurement.   I am great full to be in a position to help this animal.   And of coarse now theres two more strays running wild out side.   Keep in mind I live way out in the woods and these are not just the "neighbors cats"   some one is dumping these animals out here, and they better hope i don't find out who it is.

I hope no one is offended by the pictures below of the deplorable condition of this poor cat.   The one thing I have come to find, is if this cat isn't FIV + and I get him fixed up, he will be the most faithful and loving cat out there, the injured dumped cats always are.

his half leg:

ahhhhhhh MILK and FOOD:

Evening All

Bride working night shift tonight so it’s just me and the kids tonight.  They’re showered and in bed and things are settling down for the evening.

Working on the EGT and boost gauge installation.  I am glad I’m not relying on te truck for a daily driver so I can work on it at a slow pace as I can.

Jim – AF is still my favorite, the old tin plate has a unique appeal.  The later  Marx I’m not interested in.

Doug – The deacon ministry is hectic but incredibily rewarding.

Jack – The camper will sleep 7.  We are planning a 5 week trip this summer to LA to visit youngest daughter and back taking a southern route out and a northern route back, hitting as many National parks as possible.

Seeing the three legged cat reminded me.  We have another Golden Retriever.  A stray pup that Granddaughter Felicity coaxed back to health.  That is a story unto itself.

Laz – almost TGIF

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Evening all man has it been crazy. Let me explain back last Saturday I bent wrong and twisted my back as I was bending over grabbing something I dropped. well It hurt enough Sunday for me to call off. I was off Monday. Tuesday went to work and about 3/4 thru day back was killing me so told supervisor I had to go to employee health which sent me to my doctor. Getting in to see him and he gave me a slip no lifting over 20LBS well my supervisors supervisor asked this is kinda wide open and we don't really do much of lifting that is over 3 or 4lbs but we do a lot of pushing heavy carts and pulling them and bending and twisting please get him to clarified this well weds day wrote a note to the DR. asking the above info as supervisor wanted it. Well yesterday when I left at 3:30PM still no note went this am couldn't find it by front desk today about 4PM nurse calls and tells me she has the note ( it was dated 6:08 PM last night any way it now says no lifting, pulling, pushing more than 10 - 20 lbs and no twisting and bending.  for 1 week. So guess who got sent home. after delivering trays today ( not suppose to be but didn't know) my back is kinda sore again tonight. So anyway it looks like until next weds. or Thursday I'm offSad I enjoy working actually but don't want to hurt back more than it is.

My last post for February:

Upon finishing my 3rd month of retirement, it is great. I hope everyone is fortunate enough to be able to retire and enjoy themselves with great health. I am sure that Laz will agree.

Kev: With the Silverado: If it has tires or t its it will always give you trouble! Getting stuck in the snow, my son and Ray's son go out of their ways to get trucks stuck in the mud, sand, creeks, etc inthe Pine Barrens.

Harold: Nice deal with the shop vac.

Ryan: I agree, our cat Chester was one that was abandoned also. She is fantastic.

Everyone have a great evening!

Phish,

Are you still buying American Flyer, or have you switched to Marx completely?  The AF bug is a tough thing to get rid of in my experience.Smile, Wink & Grin

Fired up the desktop last night and heard a series of long repeating beeps.  Turns out, it failed POST due to a RAM issue.  Several reboots confirmed what I was thinking.  Removed and reinstalled both RAM sticks, and all is well.Tongue Tied

Any thoughts on that Brent?

BTW, I don't think I'll be able to make it to York in April.Wink

YEP - you have a stick of RAM going bad, or your MOBO is dying a slow death. In short - you should replace the MOBO, RAM, and while you are at it if you CPU is not MULTI-CORE get a new CPU as well... oh and while you have the case cracked install a SSD as your system drive...

Wasn't sure, just tryin to help. Doorlock issues can be a bugger to diagnose and in most cases mine have resulted in new cars being purchased... see post about BMW.

Brent,

Hopefully, it's just a RAM stick on the way out.  There's a 4GB DDR3 stick in each slot at the moment.  I just bought this desktop in September, so I hope that's all it is.  I do like your upgrading approach though.Smile, Wink & Grin

..........Next one won't be a BMW because I need an SUV, thinking either Toyota Highlander, Lincoln MKX, Nissan Pathfinder, or Dodge Durango. Kinda leaning toward the Dodge or Lincoln right now - like the size of the Durango, but like the styling and FWD of the MKX...

No thanks. This is my everyday car, not the family hauler. The MKZ has enough room for me and even the family if we are in a bind. The MKT does come in a FWD version as well, but the MKZ gets better MPG - actually just about what my 3-series gets but with regular fuel instead of premium. I'm actually interested to see how the MKC turns out...

I did consider the Land Rover Evoque until I saw the sticker Surprise

Wasn't sure, just tryin to help. Doorlock issues can be a bugger to diagnose and in most cases mine have resulted in new cars being purchased... see post about BMW.

Brent,,,NO your post helped a lot. After I looked at it I knew that what happened to me was some kind of strange software problem. Thanks!!
