Spank,

Great news about Tyler. Thumbs Up

RT,

       Happy B-Day

Brutus and Mike,

                             Angel

Been busy this week with my free time spent replacing the rear brakes on the Mustang.  Rotors and pads are shot at 47K.  Had to buy a tool set to wind the pistons back in, so at least I got new tools to play with.Smile, Wink & Grin  Once I get this done, I'll start installing the new brakes up front that I got from Roush.  They're new takeoffs from a '12GT that have larger 13.2" rotors, and I hope they fit.

Unfortunately, I had to let my TCA membership lapse due to money being very tight after buying tires and dealing with these brakes.  I'll probably be removing the Barton shifter and selling it to get some extra cash.  I'll just replace the membership and shifter whenever the situation improves.

RT, you couldn't wait until I got home today.  20 lashes with a wet noodle.  Wink

Everything fine at lake house.  Good to get away.

RT, Happy B-DayHappy B-DayCakeCakeCakeCake

Buckeye, if you had informed earlier that you would have been in town, I would have taken you to the hockey game and free food.

Cold here.  Yankee cold.  Windy and wind chill but not like MI, IL and WI.  Bet Ioway is cold too.

Actually had snow flurries at lake house this AM but ground too warm to stick.

In the warm Box.  New Trane is doing great.  Even back room is the same as the rest of the open area.  Seems good.

Well, got to get ready to go pick up the persons going with me.  Only got one VIP parking pass [puts you up close to the VIP entrance]. Whistling  Playing the Senators.  Last year they beat the Senators when I attended.  We'll see.  They are not doing too good this year.  Canadien sport anyway [French for Canadian, how did I know that?  from the train cars.  my old layout was all CN and hand painted and decaled engines and cars].   Just like soccer.  Foreign. Later gang.

Well the memorial service for my mother went very well. There were a lot of old friends there to share their thoughts and memories. It was a very good turnout. My father had a lot to say, sharing 57 years of memories takes a while. I got a few photos to share also.

The podium for the speakers:

Her graduation picture from Troup High School, 1955. Yeh Tigers! She and my father met at the high school prom. It was being held in Jacksonville Texas at the Liberty Hotel ballroom. He was in the army then stationed at Camp Chaffee (now Fort Chaffee) Arkansas and was hitchhiking home to Austin Texas to see his parents. He stopped at the Liberty hotel for the night. He cleaned up and went to see what was happening in the ballroom. The entrance-way to the ballroom is where they met. They got married in December 1956.

Her final resting place at the Veteran's Memorial cemetery. She's on a hilltop where she can keep an eye on things.

*
Now to introduce you to my great-nephew John. A 5 year old train nut. The kid is insane about trains! He's seen photos and videos of what I have so I'm his favorite person. I think I caught him in the middle of a dance step in this photo.

Ohayƍ,

I’m awake a little earlier than planned this morning, but that’s how it goes when the 2-y/o decides he is ready to go for the day.  Last night, the wife and I ate at an off-base restaurant named Sherlock Holmes.  It was a Japanese take on typical U.S. steaks and it was great.  I had rib eye and lamb and the wife had rib eye and scallops.  We thought the name implied some sort of U.K. theme but that wasn’t the case.  As we have learned with the names of many Japanese restaurants and stores, the names could have nothing to do with what’s going on inside, such as the one place whose name translates to Donkey Burger but it certainly doesn’t serve donkey.  We have no major plans for the day.  The wife and I may go for a short run together and then she will go grocery shopping.  I’ll probably do some schoolwork.

Happy Birthday RT.

DJ Spanky – I’m glad everything is going well for Tyler.

Kev – Unfortunately all my stock market tips are for the Nikkei. Smile, Wink & Grin  The new addition makes for a nice, long run – that is awesome.

Sayonara,

Joe

Wonderful tribute to your mom Jeffrey.  Looks like it all went well.  Thank you for sharing  your photos.  It is nice that you have a final resting place for her where your family could visit if they wish.  Many times, when a family choses cremation, the ashes might be scattered or whatever.  I would find that difficult to accept for myself. I like the idea of a place where you can go to remember your loved one.  Just my own thoughts.  God bless your mom and your family.

Jeffrey a fitting memorial for you mother. The pictures tell it nicely.

It's a cold 20 degrees. Another cold spell has begun. For those that ask my skin cancer surgery seems to be healing as one would expect. I can still feel the wound of course but all is well. Thanks for asking. We stayed in today but both of us found things to do, a short nap for me. I'm not sure what she did while I slept...Banilla will be waiting for the thingy...S.J.

Jeffery, very nice.   My family has similar burial things in side the church crematorium (?)

every one from my grand parents to my youngest brother so far all have vaults together

unfortianatly, I think its going to be the only time we ALL get along as we will have  no choice at that point,  what a shame.

Personally, I  be just as content being tossed over the ridge for the critters scatter around.  would save a ton of money too, but just my personal thoughts and opinions.

On to some train things, as i have stated before, I have WAY over collected. so now that I have some loops running on the layout, I have been sampling some of my stock  questions:

MTH articulated (?)  huskey double stacks keep string lineing on my 042 curves.  box doesnt say a min radius Any Thoughts?

mth locos that have the charging jack, are they PS1 or 2?    although I have NO plans to go to DCS, does DCS support PS1?

If it does not, I was thinking just to make "straight runners" out of them? any thoughts? (I would be willing to sell them, but they are the John Deere Ac6000 and the Caterpillar AC6000, two of my favorites, with matching cabooses)

I admit, everything I do in life is to the extreme. I have always been this way.

But some times I really envy you guys with nice mid-sized layouts, a nice reasonable train collection, etc.

so that my ramblings  for the evening......

Ryan,

MTH locos with charging jacks are PS2 and 2001 production to present.  DCS can run PS1, but in the conventional mode.  Go DCS, you'll like it.  I've been running it since it hit the streets in April of 2002.

Jeff,

Sorry to hear about your mom.

Ryan - MY solution?  Run LIONELS.....just sayin'

You can run MTH and Lionels together, just need the adapters to the Legacy system and the MTH system.  It can and does work.  Many have done it, some compromises on each, but can be done.

Cathy's sister is doing well and is staying at her daughters house. So far so good. Thanks for all your concerns.

Superbowl Pools. I'm in 3 of them, two from work and one is a family pool. HudsonJohn, I have a few boxes left if you want.

Brent - Good luck with your situation.

MikeC - Speaking from my own personal experience, my gallbladder was removed a year ago and it's really not bad. Probably just a few days to re cooperate and back to normal.

Brutus - I'm sure the loss in salary hurts. It seems that too many of us have gone through it recently.

Jeff - Very nice tribute.

Kev - Looks good. Makes the trip around the block a bit longer.

SJ - Good news about your healing. I'm sure you're glad you had it done.

Fife - Sorry but, I will not be rooting for the Ravens this Sunday. Mostly because I'm an NFC fan.

Well, work comes early tommorrow so, good night all!

Canes won!!!  Senators played like they could not play.  Puck stayed in their half of the court and around their goal all night.  Canes could not get the puck in the goal over and over.  Poor Senators hardly ever got it back down court.  1 to 0.

Cold!!!!!!  Good night all and sleep tight.

Hello all

Another fairly quiet night collecting photons. We were using the high frequency receiver earlier though, which tends to be more entertaining.

Jeffrey - nice tribute for your momAngel

John - This Daewoo has an engine that was also used in Isuzu's so engine parts are not a big problem. Found a GM part number on the intake manifold. Now if your looking for something like a door handle, well good luck...

Kev - I like the new addition. And yes the trains are loud on the wood. I was surprised how loud the one I have for the new place was even sitting on top of the bed. Going to have to chase down some cork roadbed.

Buckeye - hope you are able to evade Sheriff Roscoe and Boss HoggWhistling

A couple of projects I've been working on:

A Marx switchman's tower powered by the little 709 transformer.

I especially like these since it kind of reminds me of work....

And tonights project - a Dongan 150W transformer made in Charlie and SJ's home state (they still make industrial transformers). Got a new (and grounded) power cord, some new wiring and new posts. The variable taps run a range from 3 - 30V. There are also 3 constant voltage taps that will come in handy for accessories and electronic projects.

Bo - considering how simple some of these old transformers are you may be on to something w/ regard to the new ones. Prob a good investment if someone has a lot of newer loco's w/ electronics. I'm sure the voltage change is much smoother in electronically controlled units. But 8 Franklin's is a bit steep for my budget. In the near future I'd like to pick up an MRC AC Throttlepack. I like the look of these and it may come in handy as I tinker with more loco's w/ electronics boards.

Good morning. It's 48° with 81% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 70°.

No particular plans for today, just general cleanup on the layout. Staying ahead of clutter is a never-ending job and I seem to be losing all the time.

First order of business is to get breakfast taken care of. My blood sugar reading was 78, low for me. At that level it's somewhat difficult to concentrate.

Good morning,

Got 1" or 2" of the white stuff. Very light just enough to have to shovel it off the sidewalk.

Bob, Nice switchman tower.

Well I better gear up and move some snow.

Later.

Morning.  Yankee cold again but the REBS warm hearts are heating up the temps and going back to normal.

Box Trane is doing great.  Nice and toasty and no frost on the unit.

Buckeye ran South to stay away from the cold and snohio in Ohizo.  Better watch out, he'll be moving South with all those other folks.

Run by the Hunters' Haven, go to Harbor Freight and get more foam rubber floor mats [on sale] for the Box floor and then go to Mrs. Edna's for some passenger car trucks [got some new passenger cars with die cast trucks that the couplers and drawbars croumbled, more Mike's Trash House].

Have a good one and stay warm.

OK I surrender, it's 19 degrees with no 30s in the forecast before next Thursday. Problem is granny won't budge from here. No train news this morning but we did have a good group on the Tardis last night.

A good way to deaden the tabletop sound is to hang drapes from table to floor. They have to be thick enough to absorb the sound.....S.J.

We have a set of theater curtains that were made into skirts for just that purpose..another way might be to place thin foam under the layout

I am with you SJ. It is cold out there and not going to get any warmer today. 21 degrees now and droping to 14 before nightfall.

I like the curtain idea. maybe I can find something at a garage sale. I will put down 1/4" foam like I have on the rest of the layout before I lay the grass mat. Then I don't tighten the screws all the way down and it works very well but the curtain would be a nice addition too.

Well i got to cook something for breakfast then me and the wifey have to go to kroger's for some food and I have to stack some wood on the front porch.
