Good Morning Old Coots !  Smile, Wink & Grin

Spent most of yesterday afternoon at the WGHT at Del Mar, wondered around the exhibit halls briefly checking out the Lionel and MTH offerings as well as a few others. Didn't really see any "must haves" but did see a lot of friends which resulted in lots of BS'ing. Spent most of the time at the museum's booth letting munchkins run a couple of G gauge trains we had set-up. Even though they were on two loops with a 90* crossing the kids faired quite well, only a few crashes and a couple of derailments from excessive speed. All in all a good day but dead tired when I got home.

Brent, Thumbs Up Look on the bright side, it could have been the hershey squirts. Ick!

Time to go answer my 20 questions and jump on the scale so my cardiologist knows that I've been a bad boy(salt wise) the past few days. Ashamed

Prayers for all our friends on the pot. Angel

Later all.

Well, Guys,  I did it.  I got the bad switch changed and the new one installed. Had to stand on a safety stool to do it, but it went ok. Now I can reinstall the blue bridge and track. The upper loop will be running soon.   HOO  RAH

Aloha and yawn. That was a late night watching lots of James Bond movies. Good thing it is raining all day on all the snow.

Joe, I too grew up like you did, as I'll bet most of us did. I let the youngest play in our yard and a nearby cul-de-sac but no wandering the neighborhood or even walking to school without me. Too many incidents even out here.

Kev, what'ya get? Huh? Huh? What was it? What was in the box?

Kev, had a good laugh at packages coming on Saturday.  I seem to have the same problem.  I try to have UPS ship all my in bound stuff, as I live in BF no where, and if its the normal UPS driver, he'll detour to my shop and deliver it there. ( save me explaining and saves him 1/2 hour on his rounds, assuming no one else out my has a deliveries that that.)

Generally heres how I handle Sat deliveries:  Having a long Lane, I know when someones coming. So I cut the postal guy off at the turn around, and immeadiatly put the package in my truck.  Now of course, none of this goes unnoticed by the wife, so I just tell her its "stuff for work" but I think she knows better.

Shes never said no to a train purchase. but when we go together to a new hobby I am piling things up on the counter faster then they can enter them in the cash register.  to keep her at bay I tell her to "get what ever she wants.   She always buys stuff I wouldnt touch in million years....Bang Head

Joe, we too grew up that way. When we were kids it was out at the crack of dawn, most of the time it was to the gravel pit or town. Hit the house for lunch then back for dinner. Our parents did not know where we were all day or care for that matter and I doubt they worried. Many times we would hop on the bus for a quarter and go to Joliet or Aurora loose for the day. We never told and they never asked. I can’t imagine something like that today.

DougM, It was not that much, A box of track from Ryan, (thank you again Ryan!) four 10 amp breakers for the ZW and 100 hot gun glue sticks from Amazon. Just that it all had to be explained and with a weekday delivery it would have never been seen. I try to keep the wife on a need to know on train stuff and she don't need to know. Wink  She never complains about it and the one time she said something about it I asked her if she rather I spent my money at the bars? End of discussion.  Whistling  Smile, Wink & Grin

John you and Ray have a good setup. Mischief

Raining and cold, so I used some of the track I got to build a inner loop for the new side. This loop will have no switches so that I can run any of my old AF and Marx stuff without worry. I also made corrections to the other track to allow enough room. Smile Now I have to wire house power to the new side so I can power the transformer for this side. Tongue Tied You guys seen the price of 50' of 12-3 wire latley?? Surprise

Back home.  Rushed back after a cold morning on the lake.  Grappling for a broken cable off the end of the dock.  Took the 14' Crappie Jon up that has a 24 V trolling motor only.  Desided to leave it.  Don't use it here anymore since the pond thing went away [which is going to h--l as not being looked after].  Works great in our creek and very manoverable.

Was worried about Jack.  See he posted yesterday but not today.  Skimmed the posts to see.

Buckeye, I've already shipped the 10 B&O engines like I usually send for your birthday.  Oh well.  Will have to ship more next week.

Actually rushed home to get Grady up on the shelter roof as more rain tonight.  "Chief, I'm going have it finished Saturday."  Pam said he had not been on the roof all weekend.  Up there now if I can keep him up there.  Has to rush home every so often. [getting a "drink" I think.  probably be drunk by the time he finishes].

Good afternoon all,

Went to TTOS train meet today but did not buy anything as usual.  Lots of things for sale though including a MTH Proto 1 Southern Railway F unit A-B-A  set priced at $235.  Probably could have had it for $200 but passed.  I got cold feet after the other MTH electronic problems I'm having with an E6 proto 2.  I fiddled with that thing a little more today but am afraid it's a lost cause.  Tried all the advice I got from everybody but nothing works.

Gloomy day today with heavy overcast.  No rain predicted though.

Ran trains in the garage for about an hour today using nothing but coventional trains including Williams.  Ran like a champ.  That stuff is bullet proof.

Brent, been a long time since I had to change a diaper.  Enjoy it while it last.  Pretty soon he will want to borrow the car.  I like the name Mathew.  John Denver wrote a song about Mathew.  One of my favorites by him.  Best wishes to your family.

later,

Ray

Temp is 37, waiting for the rain to arrive.

Train show today was as expected, no buys for me. Saw a few decent deals but I didn't need them. I will wait for the thingy with banilla at the ready. S.J.

OK, SJ, I won't......Laugh

Looking good RT!!

Slow day here in Central NJ....got up to 36F with blinding sunshine.  I  just got back from ShopRite.  I usually go after 8 or 9, as the crowds lessen and the single females shop...but not tonight.  Devils-Pens in the 'burg at 730.  I should be up for most of it.  Cleaned up a bit, did laundry and napped.  NETTE auction had some stuff, so I was obligated to bid.  Stopped by the LHS yesterday on the way home from work.  Surprised he was open (so was he, for that matter), made my deposit, lusted over a Lionel T1 that was on consignment ($750!) talked about trains and headed home.  Titans lost last night in OT....still was a fun night out.  Not much else going on.

Good Evening all:

Just got back from my nephews 30th birthday party. We had a great time as usual.

DJ: After looking at those pics of the snow that you got, I AM GLAD THAT I RETIRED!!!

Kev: Yes, our system works well. It eliminates the what did you get now question. Now the question is, "When did you get that?" Answer: "A while ago. You never saw it before?"

Everyone have a Great Night!

Kev, welcome on the track

The 8' garage doors are in the plan.  I know way to many people that skimped and didnt want to spent the extra few hundred on the 8' doors, and now they have useless garages. Now, to change them, they have structual changes and the cost would exceede 1500.00 ...DUMB

I've been kicking around designs on my future Man Building, trying to stay with in a budget (I have to be at least able to get it closed in once I start) and let me tell ya this money I have saved for this is going to run through my fingers like sand.

I guess it will still be 2 years until i am in it with interior finishes.  Mean while I am still tinkering with the current lay out, learning new lessons every day with it.

If any one is interested in learning from my mistakes, I'll be glad to start a new thread on all that.

looks like the kids are having fun in the snow.  those were the good ole' days.  Now I am just as content sitting by the wood stove watching the snow.

Now, to change them, they have structual changes and the cost would exceede 1500.00 ...DUMB So true. I know a lot of people that let the contractors install 8' wide and 7' tall doors. Worthless.

Just as important is that the doors be 10' wide if you have a pickup truck or may ever have one. My wife's doors are 9' wide and 8' high. Very tight for the Silverado but very nice for a car. I don't like 16' doors because they let way to much heat out if your heating. My shed doors are 10' wide and 8' high and are great.

Time for me to call it a night.

Good evening all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s.  Went to see daughter today as I was feeling ok.  Her hemoglobin count is starting to stabilize, which is good.  Temp is still high.  Will be in hospital until at least Wednesday.  Sister and nephew showed up as well to see her.  Helped her move to another, bigger room.  Got wife her Valentine Day present and watched "Once Upon a Time" tonight.  No Beacon as it has been a long day.  Thanks again for all the support.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike - prayers and prayers man.  Also for BoC, John's family, and all of us.

Got some work done on the basement today - hooked up power to the bathroom with GFCI and etc.   All works fine.  Now I need to install the lights and fan and that is done.  I can't find my circuit tester so that had to wait until next time.  Daughter has more PT tomorrow - hope this finishes up soon.  Tonight was the new Walking Dead - it will be on the DVR for when I get some free time with the player/tv.  Nice chat with the guys tonight, and now just winding down and thinking about this week.  We sure have a lot going on at work, never a dull moment!  Tardis is ready, so let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Konnichiwa,

I am enjoying a quick afternoon coffee break so it is a good time to post.  I did not get much sleep last night as the youngest child kept waking up and needed some attention.  This prevented me from waking up in time to go out for a long run.  I will have to make it up tomorrow.  The workday has progressed nicely with no major issues arising.

Doug/John/Kev – Our towns and neighboring towns were small and closely connected.  You couldn’t go far without someone the parents knew seeing you.  Our parents weren’t worried and we were allowed to venture out a little, but you can be sure they knew where we were without having to see us themselves.  The couple of times I did venture out too far never went unknown: either my mom or dad came and found me to bring me home or I was grilled the moment I walked in the door.  The first words were “Mr. or Mrs. X saw you and your friends at X.”  You can figure out how the rest of it went…Crying

I’ll pray for all of us in need.

Sayonara,

Joe

Well, I stay away from the toolbar helpers because they tend to do things for me I don't want them to do.  But that's just me.

Anyway, a couple I'd recommend which do a lot for speeding sites up:

  • Adblock Plus 2.2.1
  • Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus
  • Webmail Adblocker
  • Old Default Image Style 2.2

I would also look for extensions to whatever anti-virus software you're using.

One I forgot to list is Simple Adblock. Adblock Plus quit working for me for some reason. I got the Yahoo! Toolbar helper because it tells me when I have mail, so I know when there are posts to be moderated. I don't let it do anything else. I used to have AVGSafesearch but it's not supported by Firefox now.

Well the weather was pretty ugly yesterday, and not just one part of the day. All day. At times the rain was so heavy I could hardly hear myself think over the noise of the rain coming down on the roof. There's more coming today. I lost track of how many times the power went out yesterday. My internet service was down at least half the day and then it went down last night. Now here's the funny thing, my satellite TV service was up most of the day except of course during the heaviest parts of the storms. It was down maybe a total of twenty-five minutes all day while the cable was out close to seven hours all told. Over the entire day the power was out maybe a total of eight minutes. The power outages were just quick flickers, just long enough to make everything shut down. This occurred throughout the day. So naturally I didn't get much done as there was the constant threat of the power going off and staying off for a while. I hate days like that. According to the weather guesser the chance of rain today is 60%, significantly less than what we got yesterday.

I had typed this post for my sign off last night but the cable went down again and  this time was out until past midnight. See y'all later today.

Jeffrey.........I was thinking about you yesterday while watching the news about the severe weather in your neck of the woods between my snow cleanup, ibuprofen, and naps.  Then my mind rewound to Hurricane Sandy and  Spanky, AF Ray, HudsonJohn, Rich, and those up my way hammered by Mother Nature's same storm just a short couple of months ago.

Unlike youse guyz, time and again I have dodged weather-related bullets without significant damage or any inconvenience truly worthy of mention.  Hundreds of thousands up my way have not been so lucky, and this morning the power crews are working furiously to restore power to over 100K Taxachusetts homes still sitting in the cold and darkness while others are returning to their homes and staring at major coastal water damage from Blizzard Nemo.

Then I watch the Boston news this morning and have to listen to people whine and moan about the condition of the metro roads up here in the aftermath of my storm.  Yes, entire neighborhoods and streets in Boston proper are completely snowbound and unplowed because the streets are simply too narrow to plow them, with nowhere to put the snow save excavating it and hauling it away........cars buried.  The Boston roads that are cleared are very narrow in spots, not plowed curb to curb.  These were/are not and are not in harms way like the folks down your way.

Everything is relative.  I am just glad you are safe and sound and were able to get through this most recent weather challenge without a major power outage (again), or with trees falling on your home or on your electrical service. You have had more than your fair share of Mother Nature.  Thumbs UpAngel

Going out a little later to meet the gang at our usual hangout...then off to see what is on sale at WallyWorld...
