Good Evening:

Class went well tonight and we all had a good time. Everyone picked up the welding quick. The week before I teach them Oxy-Acetylene so that they learn to watch the puddle. Makes it easier.

RT: T shirt on outside today! I do the same and it still drives my wife nuts.

Mike: When I was carpooling to work I used to catch a few winks on the way home. It felt great!

Prayers for all in need!

John

Jeffrey: That is good news! Prayers

Yes to this!!!

Good Evening

I'm also in the process of rethinking the layout plans...yep...again...Sigh This time I think I am going to buy one of the plan books and see what I can conjure out of that....Dunce

It was a dull grey day here with little stips of sunlight...but a few snow streamers and wind set in, just to make one chilled....blech...

Anyhow, have a good evening ....

BOC, Have you ever looked thru this site: http://www.thortrains.net/ ? He has a bunch of different layouts in different gauges and scales from small and simple to large and complex.

P.S. Great news Jeffrey !

Guess I have to say good morning.  Reclinerized too long.  Then did coffee pot for 5:30 auto on while Finn went out.  Worked getting up all those leaves all day [even in the sprinkles]. Bang Head  Showered down and then went to Applebees.  Back for some TV. Can sleep late if "kids" allow.  Got Senior Ladies Sunday School Brunch at 10 in Raleigh with Wifey [she is not teaching them now but they insist we attend].  Finish leaves [about an hour].  Go to the lake house.  YES, wifey is finally saying she is going.  Off to bed.

Good news Jeffrey and continued prayers.

Sleep tight.

Good morning. Still dark as sin here. It's 55° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be mostly cloudy and 70°. The wind will be changing to the south.

Couldn't get a bit of sleep all night. The alarm is set for 6am and that's about a half hour away so I'm not even going to try now. Darn meds keep me wound up so tight sometimes I can't relax at all.

I have to take my father to the dentist this morning. Maybe I can get some rest in the waiting room. With my luck some woman will have to bring her whole brood of screaming brats with her. Oh well. It is what it is.

I have the F unit Frankenlocos running right now. The double headlight of the A unit looks good in the dark.

See y'all later.

Hello all

Back on the mountain for another week. Long day. Looking forward to finding a pillow.

I now have internet on a blackberry style phone for when I'm back in town.. I guess I've moved into the 20th century. Can check email and stuff, but so far posting on the forum has been a little tough.

More fun Corvair work this past week and some more trains to fix this week, including the Marx 999.

Thoughts and prayers for those in need.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a cold and frosty 23 degrees. Going up to 48 today with sunshine.

Today is an easy day. Finished the big project and I can take it easy, after a few chores. Think I'll read my latest issue of Trains mag. Lunch and a nap, later.

Buckeye is leaving Atlanta for his trip northward. Looking for the missing locomotive.  NC is first stop.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Morning.  Suppose to be cooler.  Guess it is but not December weather.  Not going below freezing for days.  Sunny and getting dry [below normal mositure for Dec.]

Off to the Senior Ladies Sunday School class brunch.  Leaves and then lake house for a couple of days.  Back Sat. morning and hunt Sat. afternoon.

Bob, be careful.  Don't let the phone out smart you. Wink

As for Buckeye, we [the REBS] know everywhere he goes. [IPhone has GPS tracking and we monitor]

Fifey finally took the Yatchet out of the water.  Now the waters of the east coast are safe. Pirate

Have a great day.

PS: Did they pull the plug on MTJ?  Was going to see if I could find the name of the QSI person and it will not come up. ?????

Aloha. Grey and cold today - just like Winter should be. Nice TARDIS ride last night with... oh everyone. Going to paint some layout items in the garage when the bride leaves on her errands - although it's a tad cool to do so. Then I'll look for a video on wiring the semaphores. I must've done something wrong.

Good Mornin' Y'all from Crystal Clear But Cold Taxachusetts,

I blinked and I found myself three pages behind on POT posts! Bang Head  I was going to start out my post with a story in graphic detail about political correctness, gender sensitivity, and diversity programs as it pertains to my experiences in corporate America over the past four decades; but thought I'd give Dan and Jeffrey a break.  Suffice it to say that "We aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto."  My story was about the advent of more well-defined dress codes for women employees (1973).  Apparently some of the younger female employees were creating quite a stir among the older female employees by not wearing enough (under) clothing.  Surprisingly, this was a same gender difference of opinion on propriety while there were no complaints from the opposite gender. Whistling

Spanky.....you and your family have my continued prayers that Tyler has won his latest round with the lab tests and meds and is gettling back toward feeling closer to  "normal."  One brave little boy, no quit in him. Angel

Jeffrey......you and your family have my prayers for your Mom's continued recovery.  Your Dad needs you more than ever for emotional support.  The question is, besides us, who is there to support you?  Hang in there, buddy. Angel

SJ.....prayers continue for your #1 son's FIL procedure and a solid recuperation. Angel  A different kind of roto rooter job.

RaySP......Thumbs Up on your recent checkup and kudos on your progress.  If you have problems finding the nine pounds you lost, we are here to help you.  Smile, Wink & Grin

BOC.......you can charge people to sign your latest cast, thereby replenishing the train fund. Whistling  Personally, I very much enjoyed your "Dog Catcher" photo. Thumbs Up

KEV.....congrats on another successful roto rooter result. Whistling  I couldn't help but notice that picture you posted of your contributions to inside-the-home Christmas decorating.  I hope your wife is too short to reach the rifle hanging over the fireplace mantle.  WhistlingLaugh  Your story about hooking up with old friend Randy J after many decades was bittersweet.  I'll keep him in my prayers. Angel And Thumbs Up on George the cat's recent eye checkup.  Apparently your vet isn't charging you enough based on what the last visit cost you. Whistling

FIFE...... Thumbs Up on your recent elevation to land baron.  I envy the space and tranquility that this will provide you in retirement but could never bring my wife around to a similar idea because she would not want to move that far away from the kids, the grandkids, and her friends.

JoeyD......Jeter looks fat in recent photos. Laugh

JimmyT......are you going for a world's record on your Christmas train layout this year.  Was it 4 or 5 loops?  Wait until you get married.  You will never get approval for that much real estate. Laugh  Is it time to resume cruising for Boysenberry again? WhistlingLaugh

Ryan......you are getting too many "breaks" from school.  First it was Thanksgiving and now the upcoming Christmas break. Stick out tongue

Ryan, KEV, and the cat guys......you folks had me choking on my coffee with laughter because your true stories are right on.  How on earth is one supposed to get a stool sample from an outdoor cat?  You can't!!!  The vet has to extract one during a visit and suffer the brutal, slice-and-dice consequences!  Laugh  My vet once asked me to bring in a urine sample from Maximus.  I am sure my neighbors are now frightened of my mindset when they saw me with a large bowl collecting one at my dog's favorite tree.  Laugh

V8......it's strange how you CA Pot guys are short on rain while Northern California is floating away.  Surprise

Chuck......I was glad to hear that the underground railroad is serving Buckeye well.  Chief still hasn't found all of the escape routes. Laugh

Well, I have to go.  I am now joining the ranks of you guys going through pain and torture at the dentist's office.  Apparently it was not enough that my last visit in August resulted in a "Your teeth and gums are in great shape!"  They have me coming for round 1 of  "deep scaling" this morning.  I think I will ask them about getting my teeth chemically whitened so I don't have to carry a flashlight around in the dark.  You have seen those folks with the totally over the top white, nearly fluorescent teeth. Laugh

By the way.....Rich and LAZ seem to have dropped off the radar screen.  Wonder what mischief they are getting into.

Later, gang........maybe.  If I don't get tossed from the POT for my first paragraph discussion about dress codes.  BTW.  Why do they call it a dress code when guys don't normally wear dresses?  Isn't that insensitive to male employees?  I can't figure this stuff out. WhistlingLaugh

Jack

PS:  Find a way to get in a few smiles today. Thumbs Up  There are plenty of things to be happy about and grateful for despite all that life throws at us.

DIDO on Doug's assessment of the weather here.

Jeffery, Good news on your mother, prayers she keeps improving.

Jack, I don't envy you and the "deep scaling". Your story reminded me of something along those lines from the 70s on the assembly line. A yong woman, (one of only two on the assemble line) complained because I came into work on a very hot day with a fish net T shirt. Claimed she could not wear one and that she could see my thingies. We all told her she was free to wear one if she wanted to, I even offered to swap shirts with her.Smile, Wink & Grin Wink  Anyway management told me I had to go home and change or cover up. So one of the guys we called Hippy gave me two band aids to cover up with and I worked out the rest of the day. I was told not to wear it to work again. Whistling

Well I have to go Christmas shopping for the grand kids and the wifey.Tongue Tied

You guys have a good one.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 41 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Finished Wifey's Dept56 North Pole display today.  It really looks sharp, and the grandbaby concurs.  (Pics will come later).

yep, apparently the red Santa (Hogwart's) engine is scarcer than hens' teeth.  May have to put it off 'til a future YORK...  Even the dealers around my way don't recall seeing them, insisting that it  came as part of a set (heh-hem...no, it didn't).  The green #2 would definitely be Miss Congeniality.   We'll keep searching.

Great news!!!!  I survived the visit to the dentist oral hygienist and the deep scaling.  The lidocaine worked to perfection, absolutely no pain throughout the entire process.  I think I will ask for some nitrous oxide instead of lidocaine the next time around when I finish up in January........heard that laughing gas is a lot of fun.  Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

Got my father to the dentist this morning then back home. He has to go back next week to get more teeth pulled. His face looks like he got clipped by a high speed train. Now that I'm back home I'm gonna see if I can get some sleep. Didn't get ANY last night.

Good morning all,

Sad news today that my BIL in New Hampshire passed away after a long illness  SIL is taking it pretty well since she had lots of time to prepare but It's never easy.  He was an Air Force Vet and had an interesting tour once at the South Pole at a weather station there.  Got mauled by a sled dog once that did damage to an ear.  Had to have lots of surgery to fix.  He had a sample from an ice core they drilled from ice that was suppose to be formed when Jesus was alive.  It's just water in a vial now but he called it his Holy water.

We went out with friends last night to local Chinese restaurant.  Got another party to attend tonight for church ministry group.  Have to be careful with diet.

Jeffrey, good news about your mom.  More prayers sentAngel.

later,

Ray

SP Ray.....prayers for your brother-in-law who passed, and for your family.  It must be pretty tough on your sister-in-law, and at this time of year it must be particularly hard. Angel

After my last post I went out to get my hair cut so I don't look so much like a wild animal.  The place I go to is on the second floor of a two story building, and the one side of the shop that faces the street is all glass.  Then it began.  Sirens.

First one fire truck passed, then the second one along with a FD ambulance. The police quickly blocked off the street.  This was followed by a steady stream of emergency equipment.  One guy getting his hair cut  had an app on his smart phone and we able to listen to the back and forth between the firefighters.

Apparently a two story smaller motel just 50 yards down the street was ablaze.  It is used for folks looking to stay longer than one night.  When my haircut was done I took a walk down there to see what was up.  There were 9 fire trucks that had responded to the fire!  Seven of them were from 7 different ajoining towns.  What a response!!!  Add in four ambulances, more squad cars, a red fire department bus, and two news helicopters hovering overhead for good measure.

The firefighters knocked that one down is a real hurry, but the damage was obvious.  The last I saw, they were ripping the parts of the roof off the building to get at the smoldering attic area.  I don't know if anyone was injured but I hope not.

You have to understand that so many of the buildings in my town were built in the 1800s, all wood, and the construction techniques of yesteryear make them particularly vulnerable to a quick spreading, all-consuming fire.  There are no fire breaks in the wall construction, so the walls become virtual chimneys.  About 25 years ago right before we  moved out here ago we had a rooming house fire in which 13 people perished in the fire.....same construction techniques.

Good afternoon all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana.  Ray sorry to hear of your loss.  Quiet day at work.  Worked on a lot of little details that needed to be done.  Should be a quiet evening at home.  Will watch Glee.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sorry for your loss, Ray.
Jack, I have a buddy who 'chases' fire engines but only for real fires... he compares it to train engine watching... I dunno.
SJ, hope you and Charlie enjoy running trains tonight.

Celebrate with me - I took apart the AF coal elevator, fixed the cabling (string) that lowered and raised the coal-eating bucket which got all tangled in the gears, and put it all back together again. And it works. Hallelujah! I also found a nice wiring document for the 151 semaphores. I painted a few Grumbly Town gaswork tanks, the interior to Ivor's shed and an old birdhouse I've used in the back of the layout. Next, I'll start playing around with what needs to change for Percy to become Ivor.

They both had a huge impact, but since 9/11 was just 11 years ago and those that were old enough to remember Pearl Harbor are becoming elderly, I'm not surprised people don't remember it as much, actually.
