Aloha from a sunny, cool autumn day. Congratulations Banks! Prayers for protection from Sandy. Had a nice if late evening at a former freight house turned art gallery up in Harvard, right along the tracks. I was less interested in the art than in finding out the provence of the building. Smile

Good Evening All!

As most of you know SANDY IS COMING! We winterized the back yard today, furniture stored away in the shed, gazebo put away, etc... Latest info shows a good chance it hits landfall here in Ocean County. Since HudsonJohn is 5 blocks to the east of me, he gets it first so I'm counting on you for a warning Wink

All kidding aside, we get these about once a year and we can only hope it will be no worse than last year. Irene gave us a lot of rain and wind but aside from some downed trees we did ok.

Had to take my wife to the cemetery this morning as it's two years ago he passed. He was 48 years old. The whole family was there and later we all went for breakfast at a local diner.

Banks - Congrats on the grand daughter! Nice to have a little one around to steal all the attention.

BOC - Angel for your battle again.

Laz - Hope you get just a good breeze and some rain.

Fife - I bet your pulling in your yachtet. Good luck with this storm.

Later.

Ray

Well finally got the engines in around 3P.M. different mailman so he must of got stuck with 2 routes. The only problem I see is I'm going to have to drill nose holes on the Lionel 1998 to get it to fit or 3rd option is sell the shell as a shell on ebay and get another shell that I know will work. Been a pretty good day today. Need to get some of the aluminum tape like they use as need to tape some things in place and like the reflective from the tape. ( need to goto lowes tomorrow anyway tomorrow if I can. Was right next to it this evening but car was full of groceries so didn't want to put 1" x 4" x 8' boards on top of that. )

I didn't realize when I bought those trains from the chief he was selling for his friend in TX that the aluminum passengers wasn't aluminum in color plastic shells on those williams but actual aluminum shells on those cars so need to build a shelf to put that set on along with some other trains too so need to do like another 5 or 6 shelves after that not sure where I will put shelves lol. Well just answered that question I have room here in the new computor room lol ( If she doesn't have a cow Laugh )

Well continuing prayers for tyler, BOC, brutus dog chewy and all else who may or may not need them.

Well I'm back in business. It was a family affair. The guy from the electric company showed up to cut the power and went on his way to other calls. My father located a new service pole, my niece paid for it and her husband went to DeRidder to pick it up. Then he and one of my nephews friends dug a three and a half foot hole to stand the pole in. The boxes and associated hardware were attached to the pole. I made sure the wiring of the boxes and the service plug were OK and my nieces husband fitted the insulator to the top of the pole. My niece called the electric company guy back and he came and reconnected the lines. I turned on the service breakers one by one. No sparks flying. Everything is working.

Hello all

Another quiet day here on the hill collecting photons. Last tour of the season run by the local community college came thru this afternoon. Gave them the $20 dollar tour for the SMT anyway. They left late so I think they got the same at the other 'scopes.

Been tinkering with and reading about my EICO 221 vacuum tube voltmeter today. Will be replacing the capacitors and putting it back in operation soon. I brought a Heathkit V-7A back to life and used it for a while, but decided to trade for the Eico unit. I like the look of the Eico equipment better than most of the Heathkits. Functionally, they are pretty much the same.

Jeffrey - glad you were able to get the power back up quickly.

Ray and John in NJ - didn't realize you were so close to Lakehurst. Just finished reading a book on the rigid airships used by the U.S. Navy. Would love to go there someday and see Hanger 1.

Heads down for all you folks in Sandy's path

Just a quick touch and go.  We have had the grandchildren since 10AM, bad timing because I did not get everything done in the advance of the storm.  Was at the grocery store at 6AM, cleared off the last of the deck stuff.  Got cash and gas.  Probably as ready as I'm going to be.  Sandy reaches us tomorrow night and picks up the pace overnight tomorrow night into Tuesday.

Did I mention we have a charity fundraiser up in Maine tiomorrow?  I won't make it home tomorrow night until after the rains start and the winds pick up.  Very worthy cause, a "rain or shine" thing that cannot be rescheduled.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Bob - Hangar 1 is some sight. It also happens to be minutes from were I work. Most people don't realize that when the airship Hindenburg went down it did so in Manchester NJ, not Lakehurst NJ.

A rarity in New Jersey. The Governor has declared that the toll roads heading north and west will be free until further notice to help with the evacuation. He did that last year and as far as I can remember it never happened before.

Busy day for me today. First moved the stuff from my fridge down to one of the fridges at my parents place. Then with a lot of help from family got the power problem taken care of. All that while my right leg was beyond the point of surrender. I was on it a lot today but what else could I do. I can hardly walk now and it's probably going to be hurting very badly in the morning. I have the heater turned on low tonight. It's 46 and is supposed to get down to 38 tonight. It never got over 59 today.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow. I'll probably be to the point of crawling.

the chaos oohhh the chaos in south central PA you'd think the was a storm coming or something.   I know there is potential for this to be a serious matter, but I just have to stand back and chuckle at how people over react about this stuff.   for example its  just me and the wife. we dont cook much at home.  in the last 12 months, I bet we have purchased 2 loaves of bread, and threw the better part of them both away. soooo the wife in a panic, like the rest of the people around here, goes and spends 2 hours at wallmart and buys 6 loaves of  bread and nothing else...............   hhhhmmmmm  and she's in a shear panic that were not gonna have electric for a month......

BTW, my train room / work shop was accidently wired into the generator panel....  oopps

Good everning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s.  The "saucy wench" and I spent a pleasant day at our alma mater, Hanover College, where we enjoyed Homecoming and my 35 year class reunion.   Saw some people we had not seen in 35 years and even a professor from that time period.  The dinner was good and the company wonderful.  It was a good day.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good night.  Came home from Mexican with Wifey, SIL, Neice and Friend Gail.  All worked the Haunted Walk in the Park for the kids.  Started at 4.  We all dressed up in costumes and had things for the kids.  Was the first time doing this and great success even with clouds blowing past and threat of rain.  We have not had any rain what so ever.  Just clouds and winds.  Calling for possible rain tomorrow.  Just clouds Monday.  I reclinerized from 8:30 until now.  Tired and fighting to not get a cold from getting soaked yesterday evening.

Walked in and phone was ringing.  Should not have answerd it.  It was RT. Wink  No, I knew who it was.  Phone ID'd him.  Good chat.

Howard, great to hear from you.  I think it has been a while.  Smile

Special prayers for all you in the path of Sandy.  Hurricanes are not fun.  Hope you keep power [which is hard to do during hurricanes] and no flooding.  No tornados either.

Brutus, get well.  Don't give it to Char and the kids.

Blown, are you all suppose to get some of this storm?  Hope not.  If so, what?  Someone at dinner suggested snow farther north. ????  Figured if cold air got into it, it would die.

Sure Fifey has pulled the Yatchet.

Brent, tighten down the hatches.  Have things ready to help the "Little Lady" not be scared.  Especially if you lose power.

Hope Banks has gotten the crops in.

Off to bed.

Sleep tight.

Just got back from MVA on Turnpike....Geeeez...it's early

0900 I have to be downtown to meet my Wagons new owner, he's coming in from Staten Island.  I have some prep work to do prior, but expect it to be smooth.  Then have to meet BIL's buyer as his Duster is leaving as well.  Just need to sell the Pulsar.

Downtown is sandbagged and ready.  We have been put on standby and I have to pack for Monday  night.  At least we'll have beds this time,

There was a train show in the High School, just within walking distance and I picked up a couple of things, one of which is an MPC era UP #9100 Dash 8.....$20.  It's not in bad shape, need the fuel tank/speaker cover and snow plow.  Dual motors and sound....the 'bay has example upwards of $200!!!!  Nice score I think.  Also got a Lionel tractor/trailer and some N gauge stuff for $13.  Spent 20 minutes there.  I have the number of the guy selling a NYC 0-8-0 Rail King for $50, which I may call back on (in the box but looks good!), used.

off to bed...

Chief:  The forecasters up here are suggesting a scenario that has Sandy somewhere near upstate New York as of Monday evening..we should see winds up to 40mph around here with rain ...probably around 3-5" worth..who knows....Tongue Tied

I hope that those in Sandy's path fare well. It's no fun being under a major storm.

*

Good morning. It's 38° with 97% humidity which makes it feel even colder. A northwest wind off the lake isn't helping matters any. It'll be mostly sunny with an expected high of 65°.

Cold out here on the side of the lake this morning. I'm glad I have heat. Nothing much going on today. I'll be getting my stuff from my parents fridge and bring it back up here to mine. Right now all the food I have is rice, some chili and a few pasta dinners. There may be some layout work today but I somehow doubt it. My right leg is hurting so badly I can't hold my weight on it for long. I think the bulk of my activity today will be watching some movies.

Morning all had good chat with the chief last night as he was just getting home. Then talked with Brutus and sj on the tardis.

Well got the S.F. GP-20 in and the shell off the power unit fit perfect on the Lionel continual 1998 frame. The 1998 shell has mounts for bottom mounting where the S.F. has nose mounts so I have some where to mount the S.F. shell on the 1998 frame as it still has the tabs at the end. May use chiefs idea for fastening the shell to the frame or may try to sell it as is and state that as its now going to be conventional also not TMCC any more. Will try to get some pics later of the transformation and post in Sunday Photo Fun

Morning all.  NO rain yet.  Just clouds and wind.  Actually the Outer Banks is better off than originally thought.  Now they say rain tomorrow and Tuesday.  So not hunting tomorrow.  Will probably go to the lake house and do final outside prep for frost/freeze as it hits earlier up there.  Come home to help with Trunk A Treat at Church Wed. night.  Hunt Friday [if not Thursday too].  Big Fall Festival in Town Sat.  [Free hot dogs for all]

Prayers for the East Coast Yankees and into Canada.  Hope Sandy weakens.  God bless.

Later.

Lunch Time:

The winds are getting stronger. No rain yet, but the temps are dropping. It is very tense waiting for Sandy to hit. latest word is that it is supposed to hit Central Jersey head on. i was told to pack a week's worth of clothes.

AF53, Ray, I am in Edison now, so your sis will have to let you know if the Atlantic Ocean crossed the Bay and is heading up the street.

Submmbob, Ray is correct about the Hindenburg crashing in Manchester. The Town of Lakehurst is so small that the Hidenburg would never fit in it if it tried to land. Lakehurst Naval Base is in the Townships of: Lakehurst, Manchester and Jackson.

SJ: I hope you get well soon.

Brutus: You too, get well soon. Stay away from Char.

Harold: The weather forecasters really do not how this storm will play out.

Anjdevil, Rich, Be safe with the flooding. Good luck with the cars.

Laz: As I was looking at the weather map I had the feeling you were in for snow. Rock and Rye, Yes we have the same heritage. Laugh

Chief: Yes, the Outer Banks got a break this time.

Everyone in the path of Sandy, be safe and head the warnings.

John

Submmbob, at Lakehurst Naval Station there is a memorial for the Hindenburg Disaster. Hanger 1 is HUGE. Besides being used for Airships and Naval missions it houses a a center for the Ocean County Vo-Tech which includes the Performing Arts and Dance Academy. Prior to 9-11, we had a yearly Car and Motorcycle Show there.
