Doug M.  Great table top train set.  If I had one of those, I'd be eating 12 meals a day.

Ohayƍ,

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning here: sunny and warm.  I had no time to post yesterday and boy; you fellas sure post a lot.  I went for a four-mile run in the morning, work was busy (typical Friday), the family and I went out for dinner, I had schoolwork to do, and then I needed some sleep.  I need to mow the lawn today and finish some other chores around the house.  I may take the older son to the par 3 golf course; the Princess doesn’t want to go.  I also have a bunch of schoolwork to finish tonight as well.

So, our dinner last night was at an off base restaurant.  I’ve driven by the restaurant a few times before, but this was our first time in it.  The restaurant’s sign is mostly in Japanese but it did have one word in English – donkey.  Okay, that seemed a little odd to me so I asked a couple of people in my office about it and they told me it was a hamburger restaurant.  Well, that seemed safe enough.  So, last night we decided to see what it was all about.  It turned out to be a hamburger steak restaurant.  Every meal pretty much consisted of some form of hamburger steak and rice.  I had a hamburger steak stuffed with mushrooms and cheese, and covered in Salisbury steak-type gravy.  The wife had one covered with cheese sauce.  The youngest child’s was plain hamburger steak.  The older son opted for one of the very few non-hamburger steak meals: the fried chicken.  The Princess was at ballet class and not with us.  In the end, the food was okay.  The consistency of the meat was not what we normally expect but it was not off-putting.  I’m certain the meat was beef so I still have no idea why the work donkey is on the sign, the menus, and some of the food and drink names.  I suppose it is part of the restaurant’s name, but I don’t see the connection to the food.  The employees did not speak much English so we did not ask them about it.

Jack – The Yankees are horrific right now.  At least they’re winning right now.

Don B. – That is going to be some layout.

Bob – Should we call you Roberta?  Also, something arrived yesterday.

Kev – Nice photos.

Doug – That is a pretty cool table, but I don’t believe the wife would go for it.

Lastly, a new locomotive arrived to the UTB RR yesterday.  It made the long journey from the Mt. Graham & Arizona Eastern Boiler Shops in Tucson, AZ.  It is a Lionel pre-war 1664 and it is a beauty.  I posted a few photos below.  The former owner is very generous and made sure it was in great running condition.

Sayonara,

Joe

Kev,

Pictures and info sent.  As for the F3s, they can be found at a reasonable price when they need a bit of work.  My first set of 2343s came from the late John Cox and his son Al back in 2007 for around $350.  I got the second set of 2343s, the 2333s, and a set of 2023 yellow UP Alcos from Toy Town Antiques & More in Berlin, MD while on vacation in the area during July of 2011.

Thanks Jim I sent my counter.

The ROI on postwar Lionel and used mufflers is about the same...50% of the purchase price.Oops - Sign  Will get pictures to you in a bit.

 No problem Jim whenever.

I have always want a set of those nice F3s but never been able to let go of the $$$$$$$$ for them. I do have 4 of the ALCOs but they are not even close. Tongue Tied maybe some day. Wink

Jeffery, I got the yard done dodging rain drops. We got all of 1/2" today, best in a long time and it was nice and slow and was sucked right up by the ground.

You would like my old HuskeyVarney/ Husqvarna, it has an F&R lever on the right side with hydro drive and you don't need to use the foot pedals. It also has a Kawasaki 18hp 2 cyl engine. It is the best engine I have ever had on a mower. smooth, quiet and lots of power. mine is like 10 years old with 381 hr on the clock. I got it with 99 hr. I have never replaced anything but oil, filters the drive belt, the deck belts and one set of blades . 48" 3 blade cut. It is made in Chief's neck of the woods. Charlotte NC. you should look for a used one it is a YTH1848XP

Got the grass mowed today but not with the Peerless tractor. It did good for about five minutes then an idler pulley on the mower deck went snap-crackle-pop and that was the end of that. Parked it and got the MTD out. Yeah, the one with the pain in the butt reverse pedal. I applied a redneck solution to that. Using two hose clamps I clamped a six inch piece of one inch PVC pipe to the pedal extending it's length by four inches. Now I can depress that pedal for reverse. It's still a pain in the butt to use as it requires that I devote all of my attention to where I'm placing my foot. So there's no instant reverse like the other one has. Complete stop, press pedal for reverse, complete stop, press drive pedal for forward. With the old one I never have to to take my foot off the drive pedal. Found out the old one is seventeen years old. Trannys going out but the engine is still great. A two cylinder Briggs and Stratton V-twin. No leaks, no burning oil, no fouling, no smoke. About the only part replaced on the engine besides the plugs was the carburetor and the air filter. I bet that little pain in the butt MTD won't last that long. It has a one cylinder Kohler and has already given us several headaches.

Ending up putting the money on the 2245s.  Amazon jacked up the price of the Flowmaster Outlaws from $281 to $398 during the night.Angry That, combined with the fact that the Ford Racing mufflers I am running at the moment were $550 new, helped make the 2245s a better choice.

I liked the way the 2333s ran since they were '48 production before MarketingTractionWink and loosened tolerances came into the picture, but NYC is just not my thing.  The 2245s will be joining the two sets of 2343s that I've had for a while.  I am hoping that the battery damage on the 2245 isn't too serious.  I've already had enough bad luck with things that are bright red.Laugh

Anyone familar with the single horizontal motor F3s?  I've only had the dual horizontals up to this point.

LAZ.... I am really puzzled about the Indians.  I sure hope they do not lose 100 games this year. Ever since the All Star game they have played bad. Same thing last year.  I just wonder what the problem is. Could it be Manny Acta ?  Maybe Sandy Alomar should be Manager.

Hello all

Interesting light show yesterday coming home thru the storm. Lots more rain here in southeast Arizona.

Have to take the bus down to visit the podiatrist today.

Harmonic balancer for the '65 should finally go back in this weekend.

Jeffrey - too bad your dad can't by a tractor w/ a video camera and remote control. Then you could mow the lawn while running trains!

Found a good deal on another Magma ore car. Would like to have 3 or 4 eventually to make a little ore train. I'm thinking maybe I should repaint a Beep into Magma colors someday. They used a bunch of Alco RS's for years. How cool is that! Seen the #13 in person as it was donated to the Nevada Northern after it blew yet another cylinder. I know Weaver made a model of one, but a) I've heard they don't run very well and b) a scale sized engine is just too big for the hardwood floor central.

Time to walk down to the coffee shop and catch the bus.

Good afternoon everyone.

I'm feeling a little under the weather. Likely a cold that my sister had earlier this week. The thunderstorms that rolled through last night really put on a show, with bolt after bolt coming down.

Good morning all, Don B, glad Bob is getting cooperation from his construction chief/wife.  Don't feel bad, even Walt Disney had to negotiate with his wife over right of way for his outdoor live steam home railroad.  She refused to give up a flower bed so Walt tunneled under it.

Took my old 87 Buick out for a spin this morning to charge the battery.  It has been sitting about two weeks during this hot weather.  Barely got it started today.  The car has low milage for age but needs new rubber boots torn from age.  I'm afraid any work will be more than the car is worth.  Just trying to keep it going for back up as long as it last.  At age 25, it now qualifies as an antique car here for whatever that is worth.  Might get a waiver on smog inspection or something.

Good to hear that Dennis is on the way home from China.

Buckeye, congratulations on the successful cataract surgery.  Got mine done some time ago and it is fine now.

Is Chief spying in Charlotte or lining up for free lunch?  My sister was at a campaign rally or something years ago and got to meet Liz Taylor when she was married to Sen. Warner.  Liz invited her to lunch but sis said, I don't think I'm supposed to be here. I'm with a different group.   Liz replied, "well, you know how to eat don't you"?  So sis had lunch.

Good Morning!

You guys are ALL right!  However, as you know that IS NOT going to happen.  And all of it is to tall to fit under the layout.  So it will be what it is!  Even in my opinion it is too big for the room.  But, not my decision.

Really enjoying today!  I had an option of having the day off, OR doing track work at Knott's.  No choice there!

Spent yesterday adding some products to our website, and it has already paid off.  Received a rather large order this morning for the same product.  It arrives today, and a significant portion ships right out.  Can't beat that!

Glad to hear Dennis and family are all on there way home.  How fantastic that will be for them!

Had some difficulty getting on the forum this morning apparently there was maintenance going on.

Talked with Bob this morning, he said his wife was "OK" with it, wanted more space on the backside for walking.  He did mention he wants to add an 8' extension on one side for a engine staging area.  I'm going to see if he will wait until we get more done before he talks with her about it.  In the meantime I'm going over to get all the table legs secured and straight.

(i am really enjoying the work it is fun, and watching his expressions range from delight to apprehension is somewhat comical as well.)  No I'm not a sadist.

Alright Jack, / Mr. FaceBook then where is Roy??  Huh?  Smile, Wink & Grin

Well I helped the neighbor Jim all morning moving dirt with his tractor for his driveway project. Our big rain only produced .28" of rain so was not bad once we got down a little.

I am going to mow the rest of the yard around the house this afternoon while the ground is still damp to cut down on the dust.

Mr. FaceBook???  Is the Chief back from his trip yet? I think he went to the largest city in the U.S. state of North Carolina and the seat of Mecklenburg County.

Later.

Hi GUYZ,

Walked dog down to river and had a bald eagle fly over us at about 50 ft.  Real cool had nice white head and white tail feathers with the yellow beak.  Made my day!!!  Lost at GOLF last nite was really tired after putting on shed roof.  That white shingle material reflecting the suns rays back at you really had me a sweating.  Got it done.  Now next week on to the next shed.  This is pitched so no rool roofing, just shingles.  About 3 square.  Gotta trim oak tree before starting shed roof.  Lots o dead branches above shed.  Gonna be a day of trimming first.

CHUCK, the big question with DA TRIBE is will they loose 100 games this year?

DON, nice layout!  Sell that exercise gear and buy a nice train set.

CHUCK and BUCKEYE, TGIF!!!!

Well I went back to bed at 6:30 and it started to rain and has rained right to now. Glad I mowed most of the yards yesterday.

Jim I replied to your reply. You could go with the Flow but there would be no ROI on them. Wink

That is a neet commercial. Yes You don't see many if any Railroad commercials around here.

It was good to see a post by Jon the other day even if it was short. Smile

And where is RoyHuh?

Well I need to go and gas up the truck and fuel tanks for the Huskeyvarney and get some diesel for the JD.

Aloha from a gloomy Chicago where it is raining. Yay! I misjudged the timing and got a tad wet on the walk across the Loop but after so many years, knew the right buildings to duck in and walk through. TGIF!  Smile

Kev, the pond and beach look divine. Wish I could shrink down to use it Yes

Brutus, sorry Murphy's law was in operation during your drive home in the wet.

Watched the pastor's young kids last night so they could go out. No real plans for the weekend apart from working our new Saturday services at church. Oh wait, working Sat and Sun would pretty much take up the weekend I guess. I heard from Dennis that they should begin their journey home tonight. Everything seemed to go well.  Bride has a birthday party to go to tonight so maybe I'll get to putter around the layout!

Those of you on Facebook, I'd love to connect with you there if you'd like. PM me.

That darn thing had to have been thought up by some bean counter who's also a contortionist. If my father gets another one with that on it I may have to consider marching him out in front of a firing squad. I've already told him that when he goes to look at any I'm going along to see that what he gets meets my criteria instead of his idea of what's best for his wallet. Who has to drive the dang thing? I DO!. And I don't expect it to be another small one like his. It has to be big and heavy enough to do the heavy work I been doing with the old one the past fifteen years. His little one just doesn't cut the mustard. Well, enough about that.

Sold my 2333 NYC F3s, and I am trying to decide which hobby to invest that in.  There's 2245 Texas Special F3s, or Flowmaster Outlaws.Hmm  The 2245s that I am looking at aren't bad, but the powered unit has signs off battery damge.

Mornin' boys.  Pleasant 70 here in the Mid-Atlantic region, but the O's are hot.  Reynolds has been something else this past week.

Chief - Your favorite Class 1 (NS) is quickly becoming my favorite Class 1.  Very cool commercial with toy room.  Seen it?
