Hi GUYZ,

Beauty of a day here.  Tis morning WIFE , MINNIE and I went on a nice 6 mile hike up on the Appalachin Trail.  Just a great day we started out it was 55 and when we were done 71.  MINNIE did good save for the deer that she chased down the mountain had to wait 10 minutes till she made it back up.  At least she does come back.  Gonna do it again next Sunday.  Great workout and nice to spend time with the WIFE.

Then I tried the 106.  Door opens and closes with a "bang" if you use too much effort.  So, if you have a glass sliding door at home, lube it with 106.

Wonder if that will work on my fathers wallet? It squeaks loudly when he opens it! Laugh

Stopped by Holly Beach Trains in Wildwood.  Has a nice selection...I wasn't gonna buy, but walked out with a set of MTH Tunnel Portals, Blue Comet Billboard and a junk box special 6466W tender.  Owner is retired firefighter.  Good dude.  Had a short conversation. I'll stop by his booth in York (in the Orange hall across from that OTHER magazine) http://www.hollybeachtraindepot.com/

I see they deal in HO too. I'll have to have a better look. Online of course. There's no way I'll ever be able to get to the store.

Found a new use for Labelle 106 lubricating grease with PTFE.  The Box has a sliding door in front.  Slides on a metal track.  Hard to pull open and push closed.  Tried synthetic spray lube.  Lasted a few pulls and was OK.  Tried waterproof wheel bearing grease.  OK for a while.  Then I tried the 106.  Door opens and closes with a "bang" if you use too much effort.  So, if you have a glass sliding door at home, lube it with 106.

Off to the lake house to mow.  Still rainy [which was suppose to be gone by noon].  Other front not "suppose" to get here until middle afternoon tomorrow [I hope so I can get mowing done].

Have a great week.

Chief - We have a sliding glass door that is hard to slide. tried WD 40 but only last a few days. Where do you get the Labelle 106? Lowe's, Home Depot? I need some. Or be prepared for a hernia!

Well I tested the charger and batteries on my mothers power chair. The front battery showed 5.5 volts and the rear battery showed 1.2 volts. The charger in stand-alone showed zero and hooked up to the chair it showed zero and there was no change in the status of the batteries. Based on that alone I'd say the charger is kaput. I reported these results to my father and  he'll be contacting the company that handles the chair about it. Needless to say my mother isn't a happy camper. She was looking forward to zipping around the nursing home in her Jazzy chair (planning her escape more likely she is) and here it doesn't have enough power to get out of the house to say nothing of getting it in the back of my fathers pickup. Looks like that's not happening anytime soon.

Well took wife to flea market then farmers market then the other flea market we ended up with 2 cases of peppers one red and then one mix orange, yellow, green and a few red the other case was all red bell peppers so I got about 90% washed, cut and sliced and put into freezer bags and put in the freezer so will have peppers till next year anyway. I use them in spegetti sauce, sloppy joe's, on steaks, diced and put into scrambled eggs, ect. Still have about 10 lbs of onions to slice and freeze also.

Went by Pat's farm about a week ago and he was so proud of his tractor

And his new office there he just got built

Not much else going on talk to you all later need to take it easy been a full day.

Thanks for the visit RT, and for showing off  the tractor and new office. It took a while to design and build the tractor, but well worth it. It bounces about a bit but you get use to it. I have three more under construction - one for Banks, one for Chief and one for you, as promised.

The office doesn't look like it but it actually is a three seater!

I know I have not been on this forum for more than 6 years and I have never been to York and may never get there. But I would hope that would not make those of us lesser forum members in the eyes of those who have. Maybe someday. Enough said.

Well things to do and places to go.

No such thing as a lesser forum member here.  Was what Fife was saying.  We may disagree but all are equal brothers with love for each other.  Remember that.

Good morning all,

Getting ready for 11:30 AM Mass at church.  Wanted to go to 9:30 but wife overslept.  Maybe not as hot as yesterday.  High suppose to be 95.  Also there is a music concert I would like to attend this afternoon but afaid it might be too hot. It is held outdoors in a park.  Featured are two bands from the golden age of jazz and ragtime.  Ion Whitcomb and his dance band band will perform at one venue while The Nightblooming Jazzmen, a Dixieland band will be at the other.  A close friend of mine is the drummer in the Nightbloomers but he won't be there cause he's back East at a class reunion.  Anyway, I want to see the Ion Whitcomb band.  He plays everything from Tin Pan Alley songs to music of the roaring twenties.  A very talented man who ironically was a rock and roll singer in England before he discovered this music.  He has a lovely wife who accompanies him on singing duets.  Some people show up in period costumes and dance on a temporary dance floor set up in front of the band.  Fun to watch.

Have a good day,

Ray

Good Sunday Morning from the Heartlands!

I know it's been a long while since I've posted anything significant, we've just been extremely busy and my computer time has been mostly limited to lurking on many forums, including this one.

The boss retired June 8 and on June 9 we left for Alaska for a fantastic 3 week trip.  I could fill up pages about that trip but the best adjective I can find for Alaska -- awesome!  Words and pics cannot describe the state, for us it was a one time visit and that's why we tried to do everything we could during our time there.  Even included a trip on the White Pass railroad AND the Alaska Railroad from Denali to Anchorage, amazing trips.

July 2 we returned home and it's been a monumental effort trying to keep 3 large perennial beds alive during the pounding heat and no rain of July, we have succeeded.

August found me busy with the Patriot Guard Riders, never easy escorting young soldiers to their final resting place but no one ever said life is easy.  I am so grateful for our young soldiers, they truly are heroes.

The boss and I are having a great time with her new found freedom of retirement.  We also celebrated our 40th Anniversary in August, on the big day we helped our kids in northern IA move into a new home, seems like a strange way to celebrate but they did take us out for dinner that night!

Right now we are in "stand by" mode as #3 grand child is to make his debut any day.  Grammie has his new crib quilt just about done -- of course it has a very cute steam engine as the center piece!  Sure looking forward for that road trip to MPLS any day to welcome him aboard!

Kev -- we made the trip to York years ago when I retired and thoroughly enjoyed it.  As much as we enjoyed York we also enjoyed the Gettysburg area equally, consider the fall trip once your wife retires.  We will go back, just not sure when, it's exactly 1,000 miles from our door to the fairgrounds.  We went to the fall meet, I think that's what we'll try and do again when we can.

Best To Everyone!

Jon

Good Morning!

Been melting out here....

As posted by SPMan and V8Vega, its been pretty darn hot!  So of course our A/C has been acting up!  Had a tech out Wednesday thought it was taken care of.

Thursday, spent the day at Knotts with the Goose.  Was actually relatively pleasant, no heat emitting boiler to stand next to.  Then Friday, had a late shift to work a private party, from 5pm to 1am.   Of course they needed the Steam Train, relative temp was above 104, in the cab was another 25-30 degrees.  Of all nights no breeze, and it really took a long time to cool down a little.  I was squishing when I was walking to the parking lot after work.  Then to get home and A/C not working.  Miserable night trying to get some sleep!

Saturday morning came extra early, but couldn't sleep more than an hour at a time anyway.  Made arrangements for A/C guy to come back, then off to Knotts.  Shift was 2 to 10, Saturday was another really hot day, at least a breeze came up about 8pm which helped a little. But it wasn't much.  Today it is suppose to be as much as 10 deg cooler, that should make it around 90 or so.  Might be better.  The biggest problem is, since I'm the Fireman, (on the Steam engine), I cannot leave the cab at all.  So it really gets uncomfortable!  Especially when I have to build the water level in the boiler in preparation for a "Blow Down", etc..  I do manage to get out of the cab for lunch and two 15 minute breaks.  Then every 3 hours when we do the Blow Down, I am jumping in and out of the cab about 4 times withing 10 minutes, connecting, disconnecting hoses, opening and closing valves.  So I get even hotter due to the physical effort!  Today I go in at noon till 7, and then will be out of the steam engine for 2 weeks! Big Smile

I will have Monday off, then Tuesday thru Friday on the Goose, then 5 days off, and back to the steam engine.  Looking forward to the Goose, it is much more comfortable, don't have to be standing next to the boiler.  (Bigger engines the boiler is in front of you, but this engine I am right next to it.)  Sorry, for all the complaining, but looking forward to the fall and winter!

Good news, is got the A/C back in operation at home, and REALLY appreciate it!

Obviously, no work on Bob's layout for awhile, it will be VERY interesting to see what he gets done on it.  When I left it the framing was all done, and I helped him get the plywood needed for the table top.  Got 7 sheets!  And I'm certain it will require at least 6.5 to cover the frame.  I'm concerned he isn't aware of the wire requirements yet.  I KNOW it is going to be costly.

Won't get into the world news and events stuff.  But, our little community sure is getting a lot of publicity this past week.  Lot of people are concerned what things will be happening when all the media and extended police coverage fades away.  Fortunately for US the guys house is two intersections away from where we are.  Just hope nothing happens at the local High School or City Library which is in between.  The library would be a big deal, it is very expensive building.  Lots of high tech stuff, and building is covered in titanium. (dumb).

Hope everyone has a great day, and stay cool!!!

Prayers for those in need ! and God Bless.

Don

Well I hope you all had a good day yesterday and have moved on to something better than the complainer thing.

The daughter and future SIL came out with the 2-year-old. I had to work on their Jeep because it had a check engine light on. I found the code and some bad vacuum lines were the reason so I replaced them and cleared the code and all was good. SIL was teaching the Daughter how to shoot the AR then after that we got Chinese take out for dinner. After dark the SIL and I did some possum hunting and SIL got his first one. Ran trains with the little one till she almost fell asleep. Then we all called it a night.

Bob, I hope you get things worked out with your landlord. You are one of many on this forum that has been a good friend to me. The Plymouth is still smoking thanks to your help. Yes

Rainy good morning??????? Was not suppose to happen until later tomorrow.  Oh well.  Better than drought.  Over slept so Church on TV.  Wifey and I have to walk and practice the Roseyville history walk which we lead next Sat. afternoon.  Then off to the lake house.  Why to the lake house?  Mow and Mow.  Back tomorrow afternoon as Mayors' meeting tomorrow at 6.

All those going to fall York, get excited.  York is great and a great
CTT reunion.  If you go, walk with Fife.  Better walk fast as he uses his law enforcement walk. Yes  When I go, LAZ gets his usual meal of GRITS he loves so well. Wink  Brent will comes sliding in on his BMW. Cool  Get to see "Mikey".  Charlie wheels in the old man Sir J in his weelchair. Whistling  Roy is always there.  Once in a while, Shake and Bake sprouts wings and flies in.  Even Dennis W. chauffered me there once. Others drop in too.  Enjoy. [wish I could go every time]

Got to get busy.

Aloha. Paradise. Looks like a pleasant day. Lotsa driving yesterday - way into the city for a baptism, way north for a family gathering, then back home in time for church and their 'family fest' - that was fun!  But it was a long day. Hope to cut the grass for only the third time in 2012 and cut some weeds back. Maybe run trains.  I really appreciate everyone on this forum as true friends - sharing both good and tough times. Chief and Charlie thanks for the good wishes. Prayers for the happy your circumstances, Bob!

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity. There's a fair chance of rain. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high of 88°.

Only thing on today's schedule is to check the charger and batteries on my mothers power chair with my digital meter. I specify digital because I also have an analog meter. Other than that nothing else is planned. I may get some layout work in later.

Here's a link to a short video of my GP7's and GP35 pulling a string of twenty-seven cars.

Konnichiwa,

It doesn’t appear the typhoon is going to affect us at this time.  I know the folks on Okinawa get hit the hardest.  The Air Force ball was fun last night.  I even brought out some of my moves on the dance floor which always makes the wife happy.  The ball was over at 11 PM but we left around 10:30 PM; that was late enough for us.  We went to Sunday school and church this morning and we are relaxing the rest of the day. PSU got its first win yesterday; I always hate to see any of the military academies lose, but we needed a win.  There were some nice upsets too.  I guess those Michigan State players should have spent more time practicing instead of Tweeting about the Michigan QB.  The Yankees got a win last night and Orioles lost so that worked out pretty well too.

The latest issue of CTT is now ready for download so I need to finish up the previous issue today.  I also have some other reading I need to catch up on as well so I better be going.

Sayonara,

Joe

Fife - had to explain that lipstick to the wifey!  Laugh

I've been on other forums where they let people say just anything they wanted.  A lot of good people ended up leaving and then the "winners" left too - turns out some people just like to "win" and that's really it.  Read that as chase people away.  I think that The Overlord has wisely spoken and we should appreciate what we have here.  It's very special and very valuable.  Smile

So far this weekend has been in the dumps so to speek - paying for a few days of rich food from parties at work and stuff.  Oh well - might go see the Expendables tomorrow.  Got a call back from a guy to put in a bid on that retaining wall project.  He can't come until the 26th, but it will be interesting to see what numbers he comes up with?

Got a box from Charlie RO.  Need to open that up and see if the station house I got is in good order.  Great chat tonight and we have banilla, cookies, old Mills, and Blue Moons!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hello all

Finally put the rebuilt harmonic balancer back in the '65 Corvair 4DR hardtop. Was getting a little tired of riding the bikeAutomobile

Then drove out a bit west of Tucson to a BBQ for the Corvair club. A good time was had by all. The couple w/ the house we went to is quite into antiques. And Model A Fords. And Corvairs. May even sell him one of my radios. The car seem to enjoy the trip out there. Realized it was the first time I had it on the freeway since I bought it in April.

The move may be delayed by issues w/ my landlords. Rather disappointed w/ them. Going to have to see what my legal options are.

Time to run the trains and find a pillow.

Time for me to call it a night. Yeah it's a bit early but I've been really PO'd this evening and I don't want to tie anyone in a knot. I figure the best thing is to shut down and go to bed. The reason for all this is that I was trying to get my mothers power chair to take a charge and it won't. I did everything by the book several times. Checked the battery connections ana went over all the wire connections seven ways from Sunday. We get a red power light on the charger but no charge light. My father was in the next room reading the manual and telling me what it said. I was going over it for the tenth time and I was beyond extremely annoyed. He knew from hard experience he'd be better off staying in the other room until I cooled down a bit. I have a really short temper and when it snaps it goes all at once and my anger lashes out in every direction seeking a target. Trust me, you don't want to be there. My anger is something to behold at the best of times and well worth avoiding at the worst of times. I've tried all kinds of therapies, all kinds of anger management courses and routines, tranquilizers, nothing has worked. This isn't a recent thing either. I've been like this all my life. I'm agreeable enough most of the time but when I get mad it's best to just step back and avoid the fireworks. Hence my shutting down early. Tomorrow I'll go down and put a meter on the charger and see if it's putting out anything. If it tests good the techs are getting called to work on the chair. If it isn't good the techs are getting called to replace the charger. Enough about that. See y'all tomorrow.

John Hudson, 76 days are nothing.  When we were in the Army, we walked around and said, "Short", to everyone.

RT, you are a hoot.

Just returned from a reception for something I can't talk about here. Whistling

Popcorn time.  No dinner as had to judge 6 bar-be-qued chicken entries, 8 rib entries and 8 chopped bar-be-que entries.  Stuffed when I finished at 2 PM.  Can not eat like I did before dieting.

Later.

Life's hard, even harder if your stupid  John Wayne

HudsonJohn.......I am pretty sure all of us could contain ourselves 76 days until retirement, but I am not so sure we could go that long without Beer     Smile, Wink & Grin

Beautiful day in Jersey today! Too bad I am working.

Rich, I hope you are enjoying the Fireman's Convention! Beer

RI Jack/Joey D: Maybe it is not a Typhoon. It may be Godzilla going for a swim. Whistling

Fife: Well Said! Thank you, I feel the same.

Speaking of York it is getting near. Who is going?

Laz: 76 Days and Beer

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Keller at York. I teased him about how he got the job without having his name end in "son".

SJ, Brutus and the rest of the Tardis Crew, I will try to stay awake for the ride.

Have a Great Day!

John

Chief, sounds like they got the right guy to judge the Bar-B-Que.  Wish I could help you.  Re bow hunting, seems like too much chance of just wounding an animal than with a gun.  Just a guess.

Another hot day here forcast for 104 which means anything from 104 to 108.  Weather man never gets it right.  It was 112 yesterday in an enclosed area near my pool like a lean to beside the garage  It's not really closed in but no air circulates through it.  Probably about 110 in the garage/train room yesterday.

My two adult sons are going to the speedway at Fontana today for a race.  It will be 105 there too.  No thanks!

Never met Bob Keller but seems like a nice guy.

No plans today so far.

Ray
