Demay
Konnichiwa,

I had no time to post yesterday.  I had an early VTC with our HQ back in DC.  My boss and I had to be in the office earlier than usual due to the time difference.  After the VTC I went for a five-mile run.  Then we had an office teambuilding event: we played volleyball.  The over-35 team destroyed the under-35 team once again.  I also played some basketball with some of the guys who stuck around the gym after the volleyball game.  Last night, we had dinner at Chile’s and then I had a meeting for the running club I just joined.  This morning the wife, youngest, and I went for a nice three-mile walk and also had some breakfast.  We have some chores to finish this afternoon and then tonight the wife and I will attend the Air Force ball which will be held on base.  September 18th is the Air Force’s 65th birthday.

I’m feeling better today as well, thanks for all the kind comments.  I believe the flu nasal vaccination has worn off.  I’ve never felt this way before from a flu shot.

I’ll pray for all of us in need and especially those who are sick, with sick loved ones, or lost a loved one.

Sayonara,

Joe

Stop.  This undertone is already 4 pages too long...  KRM, come, sit next to me.  Try the lemon meringue.

I did not make this topic 4 pages long Fife. I made a comment about the complainer. It could have been left at that. That is it, it took off on it's own from there.

You better come sit by me. Laugh

Been sharing posts here coming up on 6 years now.  Atmosphere, for the most part, is like having a seat on a neighbor's front porch.  I have made acquaintances and lasting friendships from the CTT Forum boards (Thank you, Bob & Co).  And, we've been burned once or twice.

When we get together at YORK, everyone is genuinely happy to see old faces, and even happier to meet someone for the first time. (BRUTUS, hope the lipstick has worn off...)  We talk about health, families, FOOD,  Ol' Mils, and trains. (and that's about it...)  We shake and hug, then say our goodbyes.

This is who we are.

While I'll most likely never meet any of you guys I feel I know you through your postings and I'm proud to call you friends.

Love Bob Keller.  He puts up with my crap, calls me down on here and keeps on trucking.  Wounderful guy.  All need to meet him if you can. Yes

Chief, Don’t get, at least me wrong, Nobody here has said anything is Bob’s fault, so we are not calling him out. We know he does not make the rules no matter how stupid. He is like the rest of us are, or have been. Just an employee trying to make a buck. But he is whom we think we can go to if we have complaints. I for one, would love to meet him some day.

I think it is way past your bedtime.  Wink

I did not insinuate anyone called Bob "out".  I made a comment on my feelings for the man.

Good morning all.  Pretty day.

Busy day.  Bar-be-que cook off contest.  Go judge bar-be-que [tough job] after a visit to the store [Hunters Haven].

Later.

BIG PS:  Doug M, just caught up on back posts while I was gone.  SO SORRY.

Good morning. It's 69°. Humidity is 100% and there's a small chance of rain. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high of 88°.

Nothing planned for today except staying off my feet as much as possible. May run the F unit Frankenstein trio.

Mornin' boys.  Magma...it's just fun to say magma.  Sunny & 64 (you're doing it right now, aren't you?) here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Laundry today, and want to get benchwork roughed in this weekend.  Perhaps a little yatchet time too.

Hello all

So I'm probably going to be moving in a few weeks if the landlords let me off the lease a few months early. Should keep me pretty busy on my days off.

Going to go from living alone to having a few roomates.

It was RMT night again on the Hardwood Floor Central tonight. This time the SP Beep was towing both the Magma ore cars. I think 3 will look nice eventually. Wish somebody made an SP bay window caboose in O-27 though. Will miss the hardwood floor central as the trains will have to go into storage for a bit. At least I can still run a small loop up a work from time to time. And of course work in the Mt. Graham Boiler shop will continue. There's a 2035 on the sidetrack and the trackside maintenance crew is way behind on some used signals that were purchased not long ago.

Going to try and go down and see the Sunset Limited come thru tomorrow morning and get my Genesis fix.

Night

Bob

P.S. Jim T - sent you a PM

P.S.S. If anybody is interested in a Williams NW2 in UP colors, lemme know. Great engine, but I've barely ever run it and need to downsize with the move coming.

I met Bob and Carl at York - one of the highlights!  They seem like really nice guys in real life too.

Prayers for our fuzzy family members, that's a hard price we pay to adopt one of these guys or gals.  We know we will have to say goodbye long before we are ready.  I totally agree that we will all be together again.

Glad to get through today - lots of drama this morning totally created by my co-worker, who really made me angry.  I hope it has been cured by my boss, as I really don't want to have a confrontation with this guy.  I really don't like to get angry - need to work on that.

Missed out on some 2005 Lionel halloween and an engine on ebay today, forgot to get on and post my highest offer.  When I checked, it was already too late.  OH well - I already have everything that was in the auction including the Transylvania General loco/tender, gon, and caboose.  For the price, though, I would have liked to have a second set.

Nice chat tonight and there is banilla and also chocolate chip cookies, so we should really get this show moving!  Mike, let's hit it!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Back from down east and the farms.  Only three tiny ticks.  Had to remove with tweezers.  Only way to get the tiny things off.  Put them in white lavatory to see them and they just would move.

Deer stands tighten up and camo vinyl skirts installed all around.  Deer are eating up our food plots.  Big buck tracks and lots of doe tracks.  Found turkeys had moved into one area at feeder.  Cut path to a place for another stand in the middle of the older stand of pines.  Found a clearing and cleaned out under brush and saplings.  Next trip, take new stand and put it up.  I don't bow hunt but buddies do.  Bow season been in a week and a half.  Gun season comes in Oct. 13 and runs thru Jan 1.

Off to bed.  Big bar-be-que contest tmorrow.  I'm one of the judges.  Yes, free bar-be-que. [still losing weight Yes].

It did get hot today, my gauge showed a peak of 110*. Felt sorry for the guys working on the yard.

I spent part of the day working on some homemade flats for some halloween pieces. We shall see how it goes, kept me inside in the AC. Thumbs Up

Partly cloudy and 60's today.

Doug - Sorry about your little buddy.

John - My wife and I do pick on each other.  She grew up with three brothers, so gives as good as she takes.

Has anybody stripped paint from MPC era cars?  I tried the oven cleaner on my MPC era B-unit shell - didn't touch the paint.

On the subject of loosing pets, I agree with Kev, Dougnota and SPMan. I have said this before, we have had seven dogs , all gone now, each one hurt worse than the last. No more dogs in this family. Sorry Jack but we live much longer than the pets.

Doug M.  So sorry to hear about losing your dog Rudy.  I had to have our old kitty put down when she was old and in a lot of pain.  It was the hardest thing I ever had to do with a pet.  It has been years but we still miss her.  We had another young cat that was killed by another animal outside at night.  Don't know what but I found him on the lawn in the morning.  He was a smart cat and could do tricks.  That one hurt too.  Have not had any more pets since then.

Extremely hot today.  Around 105 I think and same thing tomorrow.  The winds are bringing in the heat from the deserts to the East of us.  Not normal as we usually get a Westerly wind from the ocean.  Boy did I pick the wrong day to go to the beach.  Should have gone today instead of Tuesday which was overcast and cool.  I read in the paper about a mock sea battle staged off Dana Point last week end where we were.  Seems somebody fired live ammunition by mistake and wounded a couple of people with buckshot from a cannon.  Good thing they weren't using grape shot or cannister.

Bob Keller, Lots going on in the world that we can't talk about here unfortunately.  I try not to talk about religion or politics on here but it's hard to keep a tight lip in these times.

When my son drove my car the other day on the way home from the beach, he said the steering felt OK to him so maybe it's not that bad.  I just know it was easier the way it used to be.  Maybe I'm too picky but I don't think so.

Jeffrey, I hope our A/C holds up for a while too.  It has really been getting a work out this summer.  Our electric bill is beginning to look like the national debt.

Chief, nice job on the American Flag in front of the box.  Looks good!

Guy came to aerate  the lawn today on the hottest day of the year.  Seems like a bad time to be digging up the lawn.  Prabably have to water a lot tonight.

Stay cool!

Ray

Hey all haven't posted in quite a while sorry. have read here and there. Doug so sorry to hear about Rudy. They do become like a member of the family. It is so hard after a number of years.

Well just taking it easy tonight still have headaches. Personal doctor ordered me some other meds. They will be here in about 5 days I'm to keep taking what I have until then. just put all my loose trains up on the shelf layout well its 14' x 16' and I have trains about 85% of it either engines or cars lol. it seems to be holding the weight fine. I really have it braced up there so they should be fine.

Well wife wants to goto the local farmers market tomorrow and I want to goto the flea market to get my bread so sounds like flea market then farmers market to me. Hope to start laying the floor in the den Sunday or maybe get lucky and get started on it tomorrow afternoon. Time will tell. Talk to you all later.

Doug M and others

Anytime we lose a "family member" the loss is always long lasting!  But, when it is a pet, and WE have to make a decision that is less than favorable the loss is extremely sensitive!  Aren't we glad we don't have to do that for anything more than a pet!

Hope the wounds heal quickly!

I just got back from Wallgreens about 9 miles away where I got my Flu shot. So I went to KFC and got lunch. When I was coming down the lane on the way home I hear the brake squeakers on my front brakes squeaking meaning the pads are getting low. Walgreens is right next to AutoZoneBang Head  Bang Head  Bang Head Guess I will pull the wheel off and take a look. Only 23,000 miles on these pads?

One reason I like BMWs. There are sensors on the brakes and you don't replace them till the car tells you to. Well my brakes have been squeeling for over 3 months, and I check them every Saturday... still enough pad to stop the car and the computer is telling me 20,000 more miles. Guess we'll see if the car is right or I'll end up in someone's backseat! Surprise - But with me being extremely AR I'll probably notice they are too low for my liking and just replace them! LOL!!!

Brent that is cool but maybe just another sensor to go bad someday.

Never had one go bad in 8+ years... when the Service Manager told me that you don't replace anything till the car tells you I said 'OK, so my brakes have been squeeling and I ignore that because the car tells me the brakes are OK. I have to stop quickly to avoid a car that stops in front of me and my car doesn't stop because the brakes are too low. Is BMW going to pay for all the repairs?' He just looked at me.

That is why when the brakes start squeeling I check them regularly... just to be sure. So far I haven't needed to replace them... but I can tell you there is NO WAY they are lasting till the car says they will last...

Probe - I did try to root for the Ravens, but after one game I felt dirty and need of a shower. Big Smile It just felt wrong.

Doug - so sorry about Rudy... RIJack said it best.

Brent,

.......I have not replaced any sensors on my Dakota in 11 years, knock on wood.

My question to the dealer would of been, will the car tell me when I need to change the pads before the rotors are gone as or not???  Whistling........

KEV/Brent.......my dealers are "proactive."  They will tell me I need pads and rotors whether I do or not. Laugh  Maybe calipers while they are at it.

I don't think dealers will even true up rotors any more.  All they will say is that new rotors are too thin to begin with to be serviceable down the road.  I think our best bet is to replace the pads before required.  it is cheaper in the longer run.

I took my 2004 G35 Coupe to my mechanic and he did all of the brakework including turning the rotors and pad replacement.  That was about 20,000 miles ago and my wife hasn't hit anything yet. Whistling  Climb on them hauling the car down from speed to make an exit ramp and they slow things down in a hurry, no pulsing or fading.

Caterpillar makes at least 3 times more money on a machine in parts as in the sale more like 5-10 times over the live of the machine. I would think BMW thinks the same way. Huh?

Well I cut some grass and no train stuff yet today.

I've been reading the sincere condolences for DougM's loss of his Rudy and the fond rememberances many here have contributued about the loss of their own pets.  It's tough to lose one's cat or dog, but it is easy to understand why.

They are so loyal.  They wake up every morning happy and go to bed the same way.  They spend every hour in between enjoying the moment.  They carry no grudges because they don't live looking back over their shoulders.  They realize yesterday is gone, that it cannot be changed, and they move forward.  They don't worry about tomorrow either, unconcerned about crossing bridges they have not yet come to.  They live for the here and now.

They don't complain.  You won't see them moody or depressed unless they are sick.  As sure as the sun rises in the East, they are always there to greet you at the door, ecstatic to see you every time.  They are thankful for whatever they have, whatever you have provided.  And the most precious thing to them is their time spent with you.  They cheer you up when you are down and they share in your joys.  We two-legged humanoids could learn a lot about life and relationships from our dogs.

As some of you may recall, about a year after I joined the forum Pam and I sudenly lost both of our Dobermans unexpectedly Thanksgiving week 2008, just three days apart.  Duke was a month short of 10 and Isabelle just shy of 4.  Both came from rescue, and I'll bet both far exceeded what their previous owners had expected was ever possible from them.  These two pups only needed a chance and some guidance.

When we lost them, I had never felt more helpless as a husband.  Pam didn't get out of her pajamas for three days.  You never quite get over it.  Like our children, each is unique and special in their own way.  Each makes their own mark on the world, on us.

In retrospect, my wife and I are grateful that we listened to our trusted, long-time dog trainer.  She was there for us when we had to put the dogs down.  And she convinced us that the void in our hearts and minds could only be filled with another pup.  Maximus will be 4 next month, making his own way.

Rest in peace, Rudy.

Jack

Well the a/c repairman came while I was putting together my morning post. He replaced the condenser coil and did a couple of other things my father wanted done. Total was $1400. Glad that's not my house. I took a look at the electric bill one day. My bank account screamed and fainted! The repairman left shortly before 10:30 so I returned home. Turned on my computer when I got here and discovered I had no internet service. A quick call to Suddenlink on my cell phone revealed that there was an outage in the area and that it would be corrected soon. Internet service was restored about 11:30. Had to change the dressing on my foot as I was leaving a trail. I feel better than I did earlier so that's a plus. I may get a little layout work in later. There's always something that needs to be done.

Doug, sorry to hear tha Rudy had to be put down. As you said, what has to be done has to be done. That doesn't make it any easier.

Mornin' All.

Gonna be a scorcher here today and thru the weekend, will be crankin' up the AC pretty soon. At least the humidity has dropped a bit today and by tomorrow it should be as dry as popcorn toot.

No museum today, full crew already signed-up.

Doug M, Thanks to Jack for expressing so eloquently how I and probobly many others feel but tend to fumble with words. They may be gone but will never be forgotten.

Kev, When we had to put down our last dog, he was my buddy who went everywhere with me after my first retirement, it wasn' the wife and daughter who blubbered like a baby. Been a number of years now but still just can't bring myself to get another.

Got some things to do, check back later.

Oops Looks like the weather guessers may be wrong, the way the winds are blowing it may be a full blown santa ana, not a mild one.
