Good morning all,

Much better last night.  Scrimmaged with "my" soccer girls and some of the alums came back as well.  Did much better.  Wife went to YMCA for the first time in a long time.  We are both working out more.  Going to see "Rock of Ages" tonight.  Bad reviews, but we love the music.  Indy cars are out in Jonadel's territory this weekend (Iowa).  Should be interesting qualifying with the heat races.   TBIL and I can drive after the movie.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning guys, Paradise

78 and bright sun going to 83. Will be a nice day on the North Bluff.

Well got a call that I am needed to go pick up the granddaughter because she is sick and can’t go to daycare. I guess she is going to the doctor about now with a 102 fever. So I will head out about an hour from now to pick her up so her dad can get some sleep before going into work tonight. Then our daughter will come out when she gets off work and pick her up.

I don’t know if I will get any work done on my welding project but that is fine. We were going to go to Kroger’s for vittles but that may not happen depending on how bad Lexi feels when she gets here.

Jeffery, Thanks for the bug map. Smile

AF Ray, we have zillions of them bugs. Most from the corn and bean fields around. They were not as bad when we lived in town.

Bob, would like to see some pictures of the VW Yes

Brutus hope Chewy gets better. How old is she? Huh?

Blownout CYL, Prayers for today’s treatments. Angel

Well I had better have some Cheerios before I leave.

Have a good day all.

It's 69, sunny, and going to 83. The 90s have left us for awhile. I had coffee and the morning news so went out and cut the grass. Still needs trimming though. No big plans for the day but it's Friday and we might go out for supper..S.J.

Good morning. It's 76° and partly cloudy. The high will be 95°.

My vision is much better today, We'll see how long that lasts through the day. I currently have an experiment running concerning N Scale cars and 91% alcohol. They soaked for twelve hours then were taken out and set on a paper towel without rinsing. There they'll sit until 8:00 pm undisturbed and we'll see what happens. The victims are a Bachmann caboose, a Life-Like Proto caboose and just for laughs a Micro Machines Trains passenger car. One immediate result is that as soon as the alcohol on the Bachmann car evaporated it started to peel like a sunburned sunbather.

I think today I'll run the H24-66 and the U30EM645. They're my two biggest pullers and are near the limit of my 18" radius curves. Other than that and a little layout cleanup work I won't be doing much today unless something unscheduled crops up.

BoC - prayers!

8NT - have been busy with family stuff with my folks and sibs, dealing with stuff and making plans to take people to hospitals and stuff, but I'll get on it this weekend.

Nothing much going on today.  Chewy either has an ACL problem or arthritis in her one knee.  We're treating it as arthritis and watching for signs it is more - apparently she will get worse with an ACL tear and eventually in a couple weeks would be down to 3 legs?  If she continues to get worse with the arthritis meds, then it would mean surgery probably.

You guys take it easy - TARDIS will be ready shortly....

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Time for me to call it a night. Eyes were better today though still not up to par. Ran some trains today. A trio of GP9's and a trio of F units got good runs as did a pair of FP7's. A pair of GP7's and the GP35 got run. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening all.  Back from Republican Club meeting.  Not my cup of tea but the food is good. [not a straight party person]  Box work after physical was so so.  Mostly planning and seeing if track would work as planned.  More tomorrow AM.

Physical went OK.  Better to have a female Dr. like I do than a male. Surprise Wink

Now to bed.  BTW: not drinking soft drinks anymore.  Gone to diet green tea citrus.

Kev, we have lots of Japaneese beatles.  Not as bad as we use too.  Still say it looks like a bunch of Yankees at a rainy Country Music Concert. Laugh

Hot Hot Hot! Went to da Bronx on Tue for a day game, WOW! Good thing we were in the shade. Many people left early, almost don't blame them.

Kev - Good one! I hadn't seen one I believe since the late sixties around here in Jersey. My mother had alot of Rose bushes and I remember that they lover them. If they're here now they are scarce.

HudsonJohn - When I called your wife for a Hot Dog order from Peterson's she only ordered 2. One for her and the other for your daughter. Did she goof or was that ok?

Chief - The box is looking really interesting as it takes shape.

Well I had fun with the bug thing and I never knew there were places in the States that did not have them. I just figured they were everywhere. See what you can learn on the POT. Wink

On the train front. I did some tweaking on the campfire logs today but that was it.

Well I had fun with the bug thing and I never knew there were places in the States that did not have them. I just figured they were everywhere. See what you can learn on the POT. Wink

BOC, Like you needed that. Good luck with the clean up. Send us some of the rain would you? Lightning

SP Ray we have June bugs too. The Japanese Beatles love the corn and bean fields around here and cause a lot of crop damage.

Joe, I do know that the raccoons like to eat them out of the bug bags. So they are on something’s menu. Ick!

DougM, That is a good idea putting the traps close to the neighbors.  Devil

RT, good to see you back. It has been slow with you and RIJack off the pot. I am glad your Dr apt went well and I hope the Chief physical shows good results as well.

Going to start work on a welding scene on the layout tomorrow.

You know one of the NEW Blue Stripe Santa Fe cars I just got has already broken both power feed wires from the trucks pick-ups to the lights and I had to re-do the solder job. Don’t say much for Lionel’s quality control in China. Very disipointing. Thumbs Down

Have a good night guys. Angel

Later.

Japanese Beatles?  Are they the same as June Bugs?  We couldn't afford powered model airplanes so we tied thread to June Bug legs and flew them instead when we were kids.

June bugs and Japanese beetles are insects of the order Coleoptera, family Scarabaeidae but are of different genus. The June Bug is sub-family Melolonthinae, genus Phyllophaga. The Japanese Beetle is has no sub-family that I can find and is listed as genus Popillia, species P. Japonica. Both are clumsy fliers. The June Bug is nocturnal whereas I'm told the Japanese Beetle moves by day.

Ohayō,

It’s raining again today.  It seems another typhoon is out in the sea which is causing this deluge.  We are not getting the winds like we had with the one that passed over us but only the rain.  Fortunately, I went for my four-mile run yesterday evening since I knew the rain would be heavy this morning.  I have quite a bit of tasks ahead of me at the office today so I should get started.

Bob – I am looking forward to it.  Have fun picking up the VW.

Kev – The hobo camp looks great.  Obviously we have many of those beetles out here; they certainly do enjoy the flowers in the backyard.  They did look like black beans in the bucket; however, I have never seen them on any menus out here.

Mike C. – You’re allowed to have an off day every now and then.  I’m sure you’ll rebound nicely.

V8Chief is a Sound Stop expert.  As I understand it, it is a sound deadening material used in walls and floors of homes.  Model railroaders use it to quiet or soften the track noise on their layouts.  I have no idea of what it is made from or how similar it is to Celotex.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good evening everyone.

Don't think we have the Japanese beetles here, but I know we have a big problem with pine beetles and plenty of other vermin.  Regarding a cab ride in a steam locomotive, never did it, but would love to.  I may get lucky while we are in China, but doubt it as I think the last of the steam was a couple of years ago.

Blown Cylinder, I am sorry to hear of the damage. Hope they are able to get things cleaned and back to normal soon.

Good afternoon all,

Thursday night guys coming over tonight for trains..

D.Baker, my friend who used to fire the steam engine at Knotts years ago said they used to have some kind of access road for getting things into and out of the area where the engine facility is.  However it is long gone now.  Hope you get that cab ride with the guy in 3751,  That would be quite an experience for you.  I got a cab ride once on SP4449 the daylight engine from West Colton to Ferrum near the Salton Sea on it's way to a movie location at the Kaiser Steel Eagle Mountain Railroad.  The ride was about 100 miles.  One of the highlights of my career with the S.P.  Cool license plate holder Don.  I thought of getting one when I worked for the railroad that said my other car is an SD45T-2, however now I need one that says "This is my other car".

Japanese Beatles?  Are they the same as June Bugs?  We couldn't afford powered model airplanes so we tied thread to June Bug legs and flew them instead when we were kids.

Chief, good luck on the physical and looking forward to the next chapter on the box.  Where do you get all that energy?  I know it's not all from grits.

later,

Ray.

Kevin, this begs the question, why would you have a bowl full of bleached Japanese beetles?

 Dennis

Dennis,

The thing is this. My wife hates the things because they eat her flowers so she has this trap that has a scent bate that they fly up to. They think they are going to have sex. Laugh  Then they fall into or just fly in the bag. Once they get in they can’t get out. When it gets full some of them are dead and some are still alive so I pour some bleach into the pan and dump them out of the bag into the bleach. That kills off the ones still alive and kills the stink from the dead ones. Ick! Dead  Then I wash out the trap bag and reuse it then throw the dead ones on the gravel drive to dispose of them. Nuts right?  Whistling

Good afternoon everyone.  Doug, the Eagle was great.  I think they gave me a brass medal/coin with the Eagle on it.  I don't know where the coin is anymore.  Kevin, this begs the question, why would you have a bowl full of bleached Japanese beetles?

Just watching a dvr'ed Trains and Locomotives episode on the Reading and Northern when they used their steam locomotive #2102 for hauling freight loads before doing rail excursions in the nineties. It looks like a lot of fun, but for guys who did it every day, it must have been a lot of work.

Chief, hope everything checks out OK.

Rich, hope you get the position that is best for you.  60 miles is a long commute.

God bless,

Dennis

Yes they are a few thousand Japanese Beetles swimming in a sea of bleach after being dumped out of the beetle trap. Whistling

I just thought that they looked like beans in there once they died and quit swimming.

Aloha. Working from home for the rest of the week. Op-Sail! That's it. Toured the Eagle too. Awesome you got a 'ride', Dennis.  That's cool about the Aspen, Rich.  8n, just imagining you driving down the road with the windows open and a deep bass-line throbbing out of your massive speakers...   Great riding the Tardis with Brutus, SJ and briefly Kev and Charlie last eve.  No clue about that bucket full, Kev.

Hi guys!

No computer access from home and have been slammed at work.  Thankfully, not today, temps in the 90's alreadys shooting for 100.  Hit 95 yesterday......I thought I left Florida.....Bang Head.

Kev, nice fire, but I'll guess Japanese Beetles.....

Got a surprise, long story short, I rented my Aspen Wagon for a Indie film production in Philly called 1982.  I get a bit of cash and screen credit.  Sounds like fun.

Applied for another job with the company, not sure of the pay but the commute is 60 miles one way.....I hope it pays well...

Angel for us and our intentions, I hope to be caught up on the pot, but.....time and computer access is tight.

Fire drill tonight......Tourbridge...been monitoring the "progress" of your wildfire....praying for a quick containment.

Princess extended her stay in Florida......Bang Head... explained that is a mistake and that we WILL be working harder when she returns.....in and out of college.

Check back soonest....

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Lunch Time:

SPman, Ray, That would have made a great episode on the Andy Griffith Show, Barney guarding the Mayor's trains. Think of the trouble he could have gotten into if he had the key to the "BOX".

Kev: Great scene, thanks for sharing.

AF53, Ray, you may have a point there with dinner. Only thing is that it is too rare for you know who.

Brutus, I am coming home beat from work. Fell asleep again before the Tardis flight.

Shake & Bake: Some PT job!  As long as you enjoy it.

Mike C., Watch the heat playing hard.

Thougths and Prayers for all in need.
