Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. It seemed more like Fathers day so getting a year older kinda just eased it's way in. Being with our little family made it a nice day. I even got home made Banilla from our DIL. We got about an hour of rain this afternoon and a 10 minute downpour about 8 o clock. Not near enough but something, finally..S.J.

Well I put the brake caliper lube stuff in the gear boxes of both FP7's and they've been running just over two hours. The older unit still runs flawlessly and quiet. The newer unit, the one I've been having problems with is running much better but the gears still hum a little. The motor is running much cooler. Hey, I think I've found my new lube for loco gears. This stuff is expensive, like $12 a bottle but with the little bit required for a loco that eight ounce bottle will literally last for years.

Good evening all,

It was cloudy but no rain in SE Indiana and continued hot.  It was a nice weekend.  Milwaukee race was rain delayed so I only got to watch part of it.  Just as well as SFHR and AJ had bad days.  At least Penske and Ganassi did not win.  Went to Batesville yesterday to see a wood carving place, a bookstore, a kids' toy store, and a hobby shop.  Wife got a carving, and I got some books and ordered an Alaska reefer car that was new this year.  Also got some teaching aids for daughter to help her with home-schooling.  "Snow White and the Huntsman" was good.  Took it easy today and caught up on some financial details.  Went to a graduation party yesterday for one of "my" soccer girls. It was outside and hot even in the shade.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Went to KFC today with my parents. Three all-u-can-eat buffets, three senior discounts, take home snacks for the dogs.

The noisy FP7 isn't so noisy now. After I returned from KFC I made sure to get the bottle of disc brake caliper lube out of my van. It's plastic safe as it's made for use on rubber seals and plastic rings. I used it on the plastic parts of the vans wiper transmission rods last year and they're doing great. So I popped the truck side frames off and put a little on three of the gears in each of the trucks then put the side frames back on. They pop on and off similar to the ones on Bachmann locos. I've had the loco running for about twenty minutes now and while it still hums a bit it's a lot quieter and it isn't running as hot as it was. The shell still gets warm but not hot like it was.

Happy Father's Day  to all you Dads out there ! Yes

A big Happy B-Day to SJ to be followed by many more !

All of this extra work on the kitchen plus kinda blowing the diet on friday gave me a bit of a scare very early saturday morning, BP & HR not what they should have been. Thought I would have to wake the better half for a visit to the ER, but things somewhat came back to normal,  ended up making the day just a veg-out/snoozing day.

Had a good run at the museum on friday, SWMBO gave me a day off to play. Need to start taking some photos of run days.

No plans for today, may do some more work on the cabinet doors til the energy runs out.

Angel for all our friends & family in need.

Later all.

Happy Father's Day!BeerYesCool

Good morning. It's 74° and partly. The high will be 92°. There's a 20% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Cleanup on the layout continues. It's just picking up an item from here, another item there but it's progress. I can see the gravel surface of Labicht Drive again! Wonder how long that'll last. I'll be keeping an eye on my problem FP7 today. I soldered a wire back onto the motor yesterday. Whether it's coming loose was due to a bad solder joint or heat in the connection I don't know. If it comes loose again I'll know it's due to some insane heat buildup in the connection. I'd think that kind of heat would destroy the motor but I've seen stranger things. The next time I have the loco opened up I need to take measurements of the motor and see if I have another one I can shoe horn in there. I'm going to run the existing one until it fails.

Hello all

Funny how it seems Joe and I often post next to each other. Guess we are on different schedules than everyone else.

Got our first monsoon type storm of the year this evening.

Went down to the "big city" (Safford) this afternoon to get a couple of prescriptions filled. Didn't realize before I got ready to leave on Wed. that a couple needed doctor's authorizations. Fortunately the Walgreens in Safford has been able to help me out the few times this has come up. Took the camera and drove down 8th street along the tracks, but there was no action on the Arizona Eastern RR today. Sometimes they have equipment parked at the old station, but it was just the work car of odds and ends which is less than photogenic.

Looks like I may be taking the Southwest Chief from Flagstaff to La Junta, CO in a few weeks to go to Colorado Springs where the family is. Then we will be off to South Dakota for a few days to do some work on the Pine Ridge reservation.  Have never taken the train thru Raton Pass before. When I did this trip before one Christmas I got off in Raton, NM and a bus took us to Colorado Springs.

Kev - the CT90 before the right handlebar switch got repaired (got your message btw)

It's an interesting bike and I've always had an eye on it when I visited my friend. She broke that switch a number of years back and it has basically sat w/ an occasional attempt at repair by someone. I once saw a bike at the Mt. Graham Market near basecamp just like it and really liked the way is sounded. Last summer she sold it to me for $75. If I can get it going again I should try riding it just to see what I think.

John - I guess the right switch for this year (1975) is less commonly found. The one for the earlier series is still available and is the same cosmetically,  but the kill switch functions differently.  When the instructions started  off like this :

"FIRST OFF THERE IS NO WAY FOR THIS TO WORK AS THE STOCK TYPE KILL SWITCH DID."

The battle flags were raised! I love a challenge! So I took both apart, switched out the electrical contacts, and voila! "New" CT90K6 right hand kill switch!

In the next couple weeks, I'll stuff all the wires back in the headlight/speedo housing, see if I can get some spark out of it, add some gas, and then the kick starting/leg workout will begin!

Happy Father’s Day!

It rained overnight and earlier this morning but the sun is out now.  My Father’s Day started earlier than normal as the older boy woke up around 0400 not feeling well.  The wife woke up and made French toast stuffed with cream cheese and berries, bacon, and sausage for breakfast.  She also made a caramel sauce to pour on to the French toast.  It was an amazing breakfast.  The wife and two boys stayed home from church while the princess and I attended.  I came home from church and the wife had already made my Father’s Day meal: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, homemade rolls, and peach cobbler for dessert.  I am sure to gain some weight today.  The wife and older son are now at the urgent care clinic as he was feeling worse.  He has some odd stomach pain and I’m hoping it’s not appendicitis.

AF Ray – I hope the Yankees can keep playing this way.  I just read about the Sox placing Beckett on the DL.

SJ – Happy Birthday!  I presume it was your birthday.  It sound like you had a great day.  I hope Charlie posts some photos or video of the trains.

Sayonara,

Joe

It's 76 now.

We had a good club meet, ran some long trains. One of them had 102 ore cars. Another had 37 scale  pacemaker box cars. With some help from a few sneaky friends my wife showed up with a birthday cake. Add food from the grill and potato salad that equates to being a good time.

Well my father called a while ago and said he had a watermelon to cut up. So I had to put in an appearance to eat my share. An eightieth of a watermelon later and I had had all I wanted. My sister asked how I would handle a hornet nest. I said 'AI'. AI? Artificial Intelligence? No, Avoid It. Pouring a bucket of scalding hot water down into it can help too. Wasp spray can work wonders on it.

My problem FP7 quit running today for some reason. I opened it up and that a wire had come loose from the motor. I wonder if that was because of a poor solder joint or was it that hot. That chincy little motor gets so hot you can cook bacon and eggs on it. I soldered the wire back in place and the loco is running again. It still has that annoying hum which I'm sure is from the gears. The sight of red gears set off all kinds of alarm bells because of the cheap Mexican made Con-Cor drives back in the late 80's and early 90's that hummed, screamed and squealed, same time period this loco was released.

Good evening everyone.  Just got home from a trip up to FIL's house.  I enjoy the company, but not the drive.  It is about two hours each way.  By the time I get back, my neck is hurting.

On the way home, I passed a engine terminal for a local railroad.  I may see if I can get the photos loaded here.

Hope each of you has a great father's day.  God Bless,

Dennis

Break from grandpa sitting or is it the other way around? Got time for a sip while Lexi is napping but feel like I should be. Zzz

Brutal hot. Big day for Marseilles. Today is the 10th annual motorcycle Freedom Run to the Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall in Marseilles along the Illinois river. Big deal here, about 10 to 15,000 bikes in town. Surprise I would have gone but not with the grandchild.

AF Ray, you got me on that one I was at least 3 to 5 mph over. Oops - Sign Did you see the chipmunk on the right side of the road as I went over the last pipe just before I got to the shed? Huh?

Chief, Got my, what was to be a NIB N&S Dash 8 40-C. But it is condition 8 at best. Bang Head Glad I got it on the cheap. The two look good lashed up together. Smile

Blownout cyl, good to see you are riding the bike. 14 dump truck loads of gravel sounds about right for a touch up on a ¾ mile drive. Ours in the front needs a rebuild and could use more but I ran out of money and only Jim next door and I seem to put in any money, time or labor. The other 3 neighbors don’t even say thanks. Keep up the good fight. Angel

Submmbob, I want to see a picture of you on that CT90. Hey look for a message from me.

Chuck, Raccoons make great targets. Pirate

SPRay I saw that walk too , it was kind of neat. Not for me, I can’t stand to be on a 6’ ladder.

Another flower project. The house well head is under the old milk can. Whistling

Good morning all,

Did anyone see the high wire walker over Niagra Falls on ABC last night?   They hyped the heck out of it with commercials for hours it seemed before the actual walk but did that without interuption.  Nik Wallenda I believe is the great grandson of the legendary Karl Wallenda who was killed in a fall from the wire when he was blown off by wind.  A friend of mine was a member of the Great Wallenda High Wire Troupe for about three years back in the late 50's when they were performing the 7 man pyramid.  Lucky for him, he got out of it before they had a bad accident in Detroit around 1962 I think.  What does this have to do with trains you ask?  Well, this friend later became a Lionel repair man and reintroduced me to three rail O gauge trains and train collecting.  All my O gauge railroading exploits stem from that meeting.

Tomorrow is father's day so have to figure out what I would like to do.  Probably watch the golf tournement conclusion and eat out somewhere.

Neighbor across the street gave me a giant yellow squash from his garden today so I will have to get a couple of italian squash to go with it.  Peaches and avacados are coming in at house next door.  I used to grow tomatoes but didn't plant anything this year.

Happy fathers day to all the Dad's

Ray

Good afternoon all! Like HudsonJohn, I'm on my lunch break.

My new WIDE GAUGE loco arrived and I went to pick it up this morning on my way to work. Huge box.

HudsonJohn put it perfectly about getting old (which he is) me, on the other hand......... When they said "oldies" they played songs from the 1980's. I guess when the bride and groom were born in the 80's it's just a relative thing.

Kev - That's alot of driveway. I think I saw a posted speed limit sign there. How fast were you going? Laugh

JoeD & Chief - Yankees go to a different town....same results. Our next game on the schedule is this Wed, a day game.

Laz - You bored yet?

Later
