Hi GUYZ,

WOW already Sunday, where is the time going?  Had NY strip steaks and champagne on friday to celebrate first day of summer vaction with WIFE.  Great steaks and the bubbly made me sneeze.  Great nite!  Saturday ran an easy two miler and took MINNIE for a long walk then trimmed all the shrubs.  After that went TROUT FISHIN with BRO and caught and released two trout.  Not very good but was good to get out and fish for two hrs. Came home and watched the hockey game.  Today I'm going to run another easy 2 miler at the NED SMITH LANDs and then jump in creek with my MINNIE.  Not much else today.

ANJDEVIL and HUDSON JOHN, the DEVILs are still alive, GOOD GAME!

JEFF, nice looking engines.  Gives you a brand new project.

KEV, nice pic I think I'll need that to cool off today gonna get hot here 88.

NORTHWOODS, thanks for the well wishes and advise.

FIFE, thanks for reading my post twice.  Guess he really liked it?

Stay frosty,

Morning.  Niece kept us up and then up early.  Snoozed for a while after pancakes.  Wifey back in bed trying to sleep as Niece walks around talking to friend on telephone [keeping her awake].  I sneeking off to lake house to mow and return.  Want to work on Box tomorrow so will not stay the night.

Joe, yes and no.  Rice is a little hard as it was not clumpy sticky kind.  The appitizers were so big, I use fingers.

Have a great week.  Buckeye and others, you have to work a little harder as LAZ has retired and not contributing to my SS. Surprise

Jeffery do they have self service junkyards there? A lot cheaper but they are a lot of walking. Or a regular junkyard. I have a couple of new Rivarossi articluateds bought years ago at train shows or auctions for I suppose bargan prices for that future layout that have never been taken out of the box.

The junkyards here are more or less self service. I used to go to them quite often but not anymore. I can't even walk a couple of hundred feet without being in intense agony. So the walking idea is out. I've worked on several Rivarossi steamers in the past but never had one in new condition. By the time they get to me they're worn out and not worth the time to mess with. Like the one I'm looking at now. It's a 4-8-4, UP #838, same class as the 844. The drive rods show a lot of wear, the crank pins won't stay in and the pick-ups are shorted out. The body looks like it was dropped off the Empire State building so it's probably seen a couple of trips to the train room floor. The only good things I can say about is the motor is good and it was free.

Good morning all,

Went out to eat last night and had what seemed to be a "safe" choice.   I just got a beef patty with boiled potato and green beans.  Had a little distress this morning.  Probably had something at home that did not agree.  Seems to be OK now.  I can't get away with anything these days.

Blownout, prayers for your struggle too buddy.  Keep up the good fight.

Jeffrey, good job on the Y6b.  Maybe you could put some weight in the tender if there is room but you probably already thought of that.  My kids had an old U.P.challenger by Riverossi I think but it had no tender.  Ran good though.  Don't remember where they got it.  I'm sure it was a gift.

Fife, congas for your pup's graduation and envy for the blue crabs.  Used to catch them all the time in Virginia.  Probably couldn't eat them now if I wanted to.  My aunt made great crab cakes.  They lived on the outer banks in North Carolina and had their own traps.

Roy, congradulations to your son on getting in OU.

8N,  I like that ragtime music too.  Would love to hear that festival.  I have a CD called the complete works of Scott Joplin but that is an over statement.  He wrote much more than what's on that CD.  We hear some of the ragtime at traditional jazz festivals out here.  They featured one called Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra at the last two San Diego Traditional Jazz Festivals.  They have at least two CD's out now and I have both of them..

V8 Dennis, I watch the Sunday political shows too.  I switch back and forth between, Meet the Press, Face the Nation with Bob Sheiffer and the other one with George Stephanopolis on ABC,  I just watch whichever one seems the most interesting on a given day.  Meet the Press was replaced today with a tennis match in France or some such place.  About as exciting as watching paint dry unless you are a tennis player.

Looks like I'm going to miss another TTOS train meet today.......again for the third month due to another conflict with church activities.  Hate these Sunday meets.  Next month I think is the annual picnic at Travel Town in Griffith Park.  I'll probably miss that too.  I usually make the TCA meets but they are very small here.  Not like the East.  At least they are on Saturday but like waiting at a train station for a train that has already gone.  We see the same sellers every month with the same merchandise at the same prices.  The stuff is worn out from traveling back and forth so much.

later,

Ray

Afternoon people..

We are pleasantly ensconced in our air conditioned house while the neighbourhood is hot hot hot...88F feeling like 103F here...

Got some things done with the layout this afternoon so that I am able to actually SEE what I have here...need to do a wee bit of organizing...againWhistling

Now...just imagine looking up at your layout like that....

Good evening guys.  Hope it has been a great weekend for everyone.  Had a great service this morning.  Been having some great quality time with the wife and kids.  Also have been taking care of visas and getting everything ready for heading to China.  Amazing how much paperwork has been involved.

This week ahead, the kids will be in vacation bible school, so that will keep them occupied while my bride and I take care of some money handling.  We are now able to send the fees for the adoptions via certified check.  It sure beats having to care ten thousand per child in brand new hundred dollar bills on our bodies while we travel.  Much safer.

Wife and I watched Thor on Netflix.  Was an OK movie.  Hope to take in some other movies this week.  I come off call in the morning, so should be good.

God bless,

Dennis

Finally cooling off some. Has been a brutal day as far as heat. I watched the NASCAR race and almost thought for a second my old guy Mark Martin would win. Hmm

I won a nice engine tonight on Fleabay I thought I would never get. NIB for $135.45 including the shipping. Confused Tried to get RT to bite on it but he was working so I got stuck with the buy. It is a 1994 Norfolk & Southern Dash 8-40C cab # 8688 that is number ready to lash up with my 1992 Norfolk & Southern Dash 8-40C cab # 8689. They should looks nice and make the Chief happy. U know HS and all. Laugh

I repaired the damage from the other night on the layout when a tree fell down and the engine shoved it into the log cabin and it’s yard trashing a bunch of stuff. I was watching the kids as they were watching the carnage. Surprise

Bolwnout Cyl. Our prayers are with you and your fight, My wife and MIL are cancer survivors so U can Do It too. Angel

Dennis, good luck with the trip to China, It has been a long time in the works. Yes Bet you can't wait to get it over.

SP and V8 I am a junkie on the Sunday morning political shows too even thou they are just point-counter-point. Zzz

Good night and happy work week for those of you who have to support the Chief. I also will be glad in 2 years when I can get in on the SS thingy.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Today was a good day as I got to watch and listen to the sounds of F-1, which is always a good thing (except when I remember they no longer race at IMS) as it was on Fox instead of Speed.  Went to a graduation party for my cousin's kid.  That was nice.  Not much else going on.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

A whole lot of needed rain this week but tonight's downpour, thunder and lightning was really something.  Trash cans sent flying, trees and limbs came down, hail, flooding and a couple of fender-benders.  Hope everyone in this area came through ok.

Time for me to call it a night. Tested the Y6B today pushing a stripped down diesel chassis and two NMRA weight freight cars. On DCC it took four seconds to travel one foot, about fifteen smph at full power. On DC it may do between twenty-five and thirty smph. It has a clicking sound in the drive that I can't identify. It needs to be torn down and given a serious cleaning as I pulled a ton of grime off the drivers alone. It has way too many small parts for me to do it as only a few of my fingers work right. There are a couple of people interested in it. I've told both about the locos deficiencies (did you think I'd lie about it? That's not my way) as well as listing them here. In short it's slow and noisy but that should be fixable. Working on this was easier than working on a brass loco. I did that for a couple of years and I was reminded of it earlier today. See y'all tomorrow.

V8 - sounds like the stress relief will be welcome, though.

Today we had visitors - my in-laws, Charlie and Judy, visited from KC.  They came for lunch and I cooked up some burgers and dogs on the grill.  We had leftovers for dinner and they finally left about 9 o'clock.  They are going to come by tomorrow again and pick up our son for a trip back to KC for a week.  Next week, we'll exchange kids and our daughter will stay with them for a week as well.  I think they are just trying to escape our next landscaping or other house related project!

Nice chat with RT, SJ, Kev, and then Charlie tonight.  Tomorrow morning is my wife's sinus procedure, which should take only about 1/2 hour.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going.  Mike - fire it up!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Between 85 and 90 all week

That was funney SP Ray, " The stuff is worn out from traveling back and forth so much "

I just won on eBay from Trainz a ATSF caboose for $12 + $7. I don't have any other Ind. R. cabooses so this will be a little different.

I've been fretting about my realitors commission from my rental sale. She earned in practacally minutes what took me 4 months to make before taxes. Day in, day out, hot, cold. sometimes stressed, always tired when I got home. Theres nothing I can do about it and in any real estate sale you pretty well have to pay these people unless you want to try to do all the legal stuff yourself.

It does seem like a lot  for what she did assuming you are talking 6% or something like that.  While they do provide a valuable service sometimes I think they are almost in the same category with lawyers.  I take that back, nobody else has a license to steal like them.

Konnichiwa,

The rain held off for the most part yesterday which allowed the older son and I have to have a nice day at the ballpark.  We rode two train lines and one subway line to get to the ballpark in Tokyo.  It was pretty easy to navigate the Japanese train and subway systems so we arrived without any issues.  The ballpark was very nice and the game went into extra innings.  It sprinkled a little bit here and there but nothing significant and it cooled us down nicely.  It was raining pretty hard as we were leaving the game so we made it out of there just in time.  The Japanese fans at this game were amazing: each team had its own cheering section and they did not stop cheering (sometime singing) the entire game.  Each cheering section also had its own brass section as well.  I will go back just for that aspect alone.

It is raining today and I was not able to get out for a run this morning.  I may try to get it in this evening.

Dennis – I’m sure more than my back would have been hurting.  My princess is about to turn 11, is already 5’1” tall, and weighs about 105 lbs.  Crying

Chief – The rice can be very tricky, especially if it is not sticky.  Confused

BOC – I hope the rest of your treatment goes well.

Sayonara,

Joe

Was HOT HOT HOT yesterday we hit 90.  Had to break down and put on the At least we slept good last nite.  Today 85 so a little better.

BLOWNOUT, nice layout.  Looks so real, keep up the good work.

Good Morning

Today we are sitting at 66F with a southwest wind at 7mph...going to a high of 81F feeling like 92F...not too bad for around here...

I got a phone call from one of my bosses at work telling me that they were sending me something....gee...I wonder what that could be....Whistling....find out later on today....

I'm having a quiet day today..then on Tuesday go back in for another session ...yay....Whistling

Chief:  Is it the browser pulling that or the web sites own thing? I'm having formatting issues here....

Laz:  LaughMischief I actually wish that was my layout..it is actually part of the Yukon and White Pass route...I'm guessing that to pull that off one would have to do a floor to ceiling mountainside pass set up....

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and rainy in SE Indiana with temps and humidity in the 70s.  Sticky.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning from the hot north bluff. A promise some rain today but does not look like much on the radar. We will take whet we get and be glad we are not getting flooded like those in Florida or brunt like those in CO & NM. Prayers for them. Angel

Well got to pay for the "new to me" NS engine and that is about it till the wife gets up and I have to start planting more stuff. Super Angry

Have a good day.

Well got up about 5:10a this am and my cold moved down into my chest which I kinda felt like it was last night.

The 5:13 ran on schedule this am while I was waiting to call off from work. ( have to call between 5:30a and 8:00a if you don't want to be unexcused)

So ran my trains for a while then went back to bed but didn't sleep worth a dang. Got back up about a hour later.

Not much else going on here.
