RT and Bob.......all I can say is WOW!!!  This was once-in-a-lifetime stuff, to actually serve on or be able to work on an Iowa Class battleship.  My Dad was not a crewmember on the Missouri, but I recall him saying he was transported somewhere on it, sometime before mid 1946 when he was discharged from the Navy.  He had been held over as "essential personnel" after the hostilities ended.  I only wish I could remember some of the details.  You guys got an up close and personal look at those 16 inch guns!!!!  The German Bismark's were "only" 15 inchers.  And the Japanese Yamato's were 18 inchers!!!!

Jack to this day even thou I'm 57 if for some reason all of a sudden the U.S. wanted them back and was looking for past battleship sailors I would one of the first to raise my hand and I bet there would be a long line theres just something about serving on a battle ship there a special feeling be part of that. maybe it was because of the history behind it not sure but I knew there was something different being on one.

Bob sent you an message thru the forum.

Well its time to start getting ready to go talk to you all later.

Good Morning CTTFans!!!

It's a gray and foggy this morning and they say we might see some wet stuff this weekend.  Right now for that is mostly good news as long as we don't get too much to fast.  I'm sure some of you like Jeff would love to send it our way and we will be glad to accept it.  Stage 2 of our Window (not widow Embarrassed) replacement project should start Monday so hopefully our house will start getting back together later next week

Nice and sunny, Cool but chilly. Chief could not take it.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Decided to not go to Morton today. I will go tomorrow, no one there anyhow. Tomorrow I will do the expense book from the Fargo trip. Going to play with trains today. Had a RailSounds B&O boxcar that took a dump so I installed a MRC sounder in it to use the speaker and pick-ups it already had. Worked good.

Won a MILLER HIGH LIFE 4-Bay Hopper Car #30-75339 for my beer train consist last night on the Bay. Looking at 3 more different cars I want yet. That will give me an 8 car train.

Chief, All of those people bailing out since you took office? Huh?

Nice pictures of the plane and want-to-be train. How is it the boy could be sleeping? i would think he would of been wide eyed?

Joe, impressive amount of countries to have been to. WOW.

Prayers to all in need have a good day, Angel

Kev.

Hello fellas

Not much going on today... just trying to get caught up and possibly a bit ahead... only 2 more work days this week and I would like to think I can get my tasks due on Friday done by tomorrow... we'll see.

Seems Christina is starting to experience 'Stranger Anxiety', good in some ways (doesn't want to go to someone she is not familiar with and freeks out if Mommy or Daddy are not near by), bad in others (she really has a good set of lungs).

Chief, you look pretty sharp in the engineer's seat.  The red bandana goes around your neck though.

Thanks for the photos of the L19.  When you called it a Bird dog, I remembered it.  I got a ride in one of those when I was in training with the Virginia National Guard at Indian Town Gap Pennsylvania military reservation back in the 50's.  They were doing training flights at off airport landing areas.  We took off directly towards a mountain and the pilot had to make a sharp left turn to avoid hitting it.  Pretty exciting.  Nice airplane with good visability.

DBaker, sounds like a lot of stuff to remember about firing a steam engine trying to get the right combination of atomizer, blower, water injectors etc.  I guess it just takes practice.  I'm having trouble just learning how to operate my TV set.  We have FIOS and they have something called "on demand" which you can use to access movies and other programs for sale but a lot is free.  Still having trouble just navigating around the thing.  Seems too complicated.  My son can do it but he is a terrible teacher.

Bob,

Nice photo story about the Iowa restoration.  Looking forward to seeing her in person when she comes down here.  Too bad the Navy and the Army Air Force were unable to bring fire on the beaches at Normandy prior to the men going in.  They all overshot because of bad visability so consequently there were no shell holes on the beach for anyone to take cover in.  Those big 16 inch guns like the Iowa has could have done a lot of good if they were able to find the target.  However, the Navy did get in their licks with some heroic action by bringing destroyers so close they almost hit bottom and that's what finally got those guys off the beach.  I'm not sure what battleships were used during the Normandy invasion but they must have had some.  Most of the "swimmer tanks"  all sank so the men had no artillery support at first.

Been watching some specials about the Titanic this week which is the 100th anniversary  ot the tragedy.  One interesting piece about the people who lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland where the ship was built.

Hello to Jim (phish)  looking forward to more post.

later,

Ray

Good afternoon everyone.  Had an early start to the day, but it was a good, yet challenging case.  Done early, so I came home to relax a bit before getting the kids from school.  It is a beautiful day here.

Bob, wow! Great opportunity you had there.  You now have a great story to tell.  I have always been a fan of battleships since I got to see the New Jersey years ago.  Had a friend who was in the Marines on the New Jersey back when they were in Lebanon.  Only battleship I ever got on was the North Carolina.  Fascinating.

Chief, great shot of you with the loco.  Think you want to keep that as a full time gig?  You are still the busiest "retired" guy I know.

John, great to see you stopping by.  Got your message, I will look at one, but until we return from China, I am holding off on train purchases.  Have too many as it is....read that, my wife thinks I have too many, I can always use another.

Well, hope each of you has a blessed day.

Dennis

Kev - you might try HobbyTownUSA on the connector. I heard it was similar to some of the RC hookups. I had a brief glance the last time I was at the store in my area, but I was pressed for time and they have quite a bunch to look thru. Will keep checking the surplus at my local electronic supply store in the meantime.

Bob,

I sent you a PM on this part. Lionel # 610-8989-202

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Good Afternoon

Well, everything is fine on the friend front..he is expected to make a full recovery.

This afternoon I managed to get some of the layout cleaned up of all the junk that accumulated on it..we have this habit it appears that any horizontal surface becomes storage for other stuff..usually not associated with the layout itself...Hmm..now I can actually see what it is I am supposed to do hereConfused

Good afternoon all,

It is cloudy and cool in SE Indiana with temps barely hitting 50.  Supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow.  Watched Glee and Ringer.  Glee was ok, but I am really start to lose interest in it.  Ringer kept me on the edge of my seat, and next week's season finale should be a doozy.   I imagine there will be a cliffhanger for the summer.  Quiet evening otherwise.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.   Submmbob, great work on the battleship.  Jeffrey, good news on your mom.  Chief, interesting picture.  Don B, good reports as well.  TBIL and I can drive.  May be an early flight so get the beacons lit early.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

It’s Wednesday here in Hamilton Square, NJ….5 hours added today,

It’s really my day off……boss is out so I’m helping out (my paycheck….Whistling)

Started the day at 0500 and dropped off the neighbors at Newark-Liberty,

as they are going to Naples, FL for a month.

Took a nap and then got ready for work.  Princess got to college via GrandMa Transport….Bow

Slow day today…..

Subbob – Nice pictures….Like Dennis, I have been on the USS North Carolina, and hope to get on the USS New Jersey during the summer months.  Since I’m a Navy brat, we all were fascinated with WW II and the Battleships.  Always was a fan of Big J….

DonB – Have you ever done the early morning Disney Land Tour?  I missed my opportunity to do so at Disney World.  If I get back there, that’s on the must do list.

Chief - If doesn’t have flanged wheels, is it really a train?  Just asking…….Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeff – Thumbs Up

Angel for SPMan and his friend, BO & his friend and those I’ve missed.

My local train guy (Z&Z Hobbies) says he may have sold his business.  Fortunately, it’ll stay IN business, for now.  2 brothers own it, they’ve been trying to get me to buy them out……silly boys…..Laugh

While I was there, purchased RailPace magazine( http://www.railpace.com ).  It keeps abreast of those 1:1 scale happenings in the North East.  Very interesting read….turns out the publisher live across the street from my parents place in Oriental, NC and has a large HO layout in the garage.  Small world…..

Getting cooler now, in the 50’s and the stiff wind keeps blowing….

Later!

Rich

Fife,

Congrats on the newest member of Fifedom.Smile

Rich,

I remember doing laps around the local high school like it was yesterday.  Also remember the frustration of letting the clutch out too fast.  How is your daughter doing with it so far?

Got an interview Tuesday for the job I mentioned previously, and I've got my fingers crossed for this one.  Got the wheels that I bought on CL mounted on the Mustang, and they were definitely worth it.  Need to get the originals put into storage.

Back from Alexandria. My mother is doing much better. She's able to sit up on her own and feed herself. She's been moved back to a regular room. She doesn't miss ICU at all. Can't blame her there. She's not able to walk yet and is suffering dizzy spells when she tries to stand. The good news is she hasn't scalped anybody yet! Of course she's not able to get out of bed yet either. The nurse said it's possible she has a staph infection and she's getting vancomycin for that. At that point I told my father it was time to leave. I have open wounds and I DO NOT need to be around someone who has staph no matter what the relation. By then it was a little after one. He and I stopped at a pizza place and tied into a medium deep dish pizza. Meat lovers of course. Got home to fine a new DVD set from the history channel in my mail box. Titanic, The Complete Story. Death of a dream, The legend lives on and Titanic's Achilles heel. I'll watch it and decide whether I want to keep it or not.

Probe.....

She's doing ok....sometimes too much, sometime not enough, but its early in the process.  She did drive a couple of miles home.  If I had an automatic, she'd be ok, but the learning curve on a manual is steep, but she's determined.....and that helps!

Good evening all!

Not much going on today, just fininshed the new kitchen floor at my mother-in-laws house. We (son, #2 daughter and her boyfriend), put down Allure Vinyl Plank flooring. It took about 7 hours over 2 nights and looks nice. It's the same I used when I renovated our bathroom 2 years ago.

First game for us at da Bronx is Fri afternoon at the home opener. Jorge Posada will be on hand to throw out the first pitch.

Fife - Nice! Congrats on the addition.

JoeD - Sensing on how you are with the kiids, they'll learn. Just keep learning the game, the mechanics of the game and having fun and all will fall into place. This is true esp with kids that age.

 Have a good night all,

Quick check in tonight before I go to bed.  Been down for a few days with an upper respatory infection I picked up this weekend.  Started .8 killoton sized antibiotics yesterday and am just now starting to feel human again.

I did discover that the attic was nice and warm today.  Spent some time running trains.  Goot therapy.

Hello all

Just got home from the mountain. Was up late and then slept most of the day.

Kev - haven't had a chance to look at that connector but it's great that Lionel is supporting the K-line stuff

Jeffrey - continued great news on your mon! Take it easy w/ the tractor.

My time on the Iowa was great. Will try a post some more photos on my Flickr account and post a link. I even have some train related photos from the trip that I will post here in the next few days.

Got to go to court today to deal w/ the traffic ticket from the accident. I think they will probably let me take the defensive driver school.

Aloha. Cold and  bright this am. Prepping for my wife's birthday tomorrow. I'll take the day off and squire her around some of her favorite spots. Wish we'd get some rain here - very dry spring so far. Got a host of doc appointments coming up - I got some skin cancer to take care of and the cataracts.  Kev, nice job on the boxcar.   Prayers for RT's recovery! And for those preparing for York.

Good morning. It's 58°F/14°C and partly cloudy. The high will be 82°F/28°C and there's a 20% chance of rain this afternoon.

This morning my father and I will be working on the Peerless tractor to find out what happened to the drive line. Did it throw a belt or drop a gear? There's three belts in the drive and I'm thinking it threw the belt in the clutch/drive pedal assembly. Won't know until the belly mower and a few other things are out of the way.  I know I'm going to get a pulled muscle or two out of this. Nothing about that old tractor is light.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 60.  The "saucy wench" and I had a mid week dinner date.  It was nice to be able to relax at least once during the week. This weekend will be busy.  We communicate daily with Lucas to see how he is doing.  So far he is ok.  Not much else is going on.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,
