Jeffrey - how did you do the interior on that building? Looks great!

It's just a simple piece of printed paper placed behind the windows and backlit by the light in the building.

Well it looks great!

For once I was able to knock off at 5 today and get ready to grill some pork chops and work on moving some more dirt. Dug up about 20 feet of old 3 inch drain pipe from the old pool deck and loosened up a lot of the section I am working on. Tomorrow I will transfer the excess to the side yard and grade out the area worked on today.

KEV - Angel for your daughter. In the end these things work out for the best. If the firm had that attitude towards their employees better in the end to not end up there full time.

Have a great evening all!

51 degrees, 60s with sun today but windy. It's been a busy day but I did get an hour on the couch. My train friend dropped off the new Lionel catalog today but I didn't have a chance to sit down with it. I did look at the store copy last week. I will wait for the Tardis and have a little chat time...S.J.

Good evening everyone.  Been running around with the family.  Violin, school, dinner, etc.  this afternoon, I printed off the 40% coupon for Hobby Lobby and picked up some foam building bricks.  I think they will look good for both a retaining wall and a trestle I am working on.

Darren, sad about the folks who died.  I saw a news clip in which residents were saying that the Forrest Service started the fire, but I think that has yet to be confirmed. Hope the get a jump on it soon.

Kev, today's business climate is nothing like what most of us started out with.  No loyalty from either end.  Stay at a place long enough and they will find a way to get rid of you for a lower salaried person.  Hire someone and teach them the ropes, and they will jump ship for $.50 cents an hour more.  My suggestion is that she learn to take a lesson from each experience.  Treat others as she would Like to be treated.  If the bosses have any spread of decency in them, they will help her find a good job, or at least be good references.  If they don't, the lesson is that she wouldn't have wanted to stay and work for such people anyway.

I got my issue of Trains magazine about train wrecks.  Looks interesting.  I am glad they have a good deal about investigating incidents and determining cause.  This is one of my main interest in getting this issue.

Well, I have an early morning.  Hope each of you is mindful of your blessings when you hit your knees in prayer tonight.

God bless,

Dennis

Time for me to call it a night. Didn't get much accomplished today other than wiring the MRC Synchro Sound controller into my control panel so I can switch it between ON-OFF and PROGRAM with a single DPDT switch. See y'all tomorrow.

I missed a couple days and Big Brother showed up Confused

I sure did not find the discussion about the ridiculous price of gas to be political in any way.  Suppose if we talk about the increased price of food that's political too??

Sunny and 70's today.  Radar shows a red patch headed this way and I'm starting to hear thunder.

Was a real treat to get my computer monitors replaced at work.  I figured that I wuold have to wait until they died before I'd see a replacement.

Sad news about Earl Scruggs.  I think he developed a unique fingering style for banjo playing.

All for now.

Hello all

Back down from the hill. Woke up later than I planned but got some good sleep last night. Running around taking of errands before I head to CA on Friday. Some friends will be driving me up to Phoenix tomorrow afternoon and I'll spend the night w/ another friend who will take me to the airport in the morning. They will also be bringing back a bench seat for the van.

Darren - hope they get the fires under control soon. Those P2 Neptunes are neat.

Mike - thoughts and prayers for Lucas

Kev - sorry to hear about your daughter's job. Hope something better comes up soon. Smoke unit is on the way

Guess I should find some dinner and finish up the laundry.

Talked with friend this morning..he's already up and at 'em...or so he says...Whistling

Earl Scruggs was a musician of the first calibre ....to bad he passed away.

Speaking of a death in the family...I got an email from one of my relatives in Germany that one of my fathers 3 sisters just passed away at 97...talk about a long life...Whistling

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Some more night time conversations with Lucas, but fortunately no trip to Bloomington.  Good news is that his professors are aware and quite helpful concerning his situation.  Turns out one of his midterms had been posted incorrectly and what was an F was actually a B-, and another professor apologized profusely for missing a meeting he had set up just before things went south.  Maybe, just maybe, this Titanic will miss the iceberg.  Still too soon to tell.  I showed the "saucy wench" all the comments you have all made and she was deeply moved by them.  Thank you all again.  Did not do much else last night.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive, but beware that I may be doing some major barrel rolls if there are no phone calls tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Konbanwa,

My older son and I had a great time at the baseball game last night.  It went one extra inning which is always a good thing.  The Mariners won in the 10th.  Japanese baseball games are a little different than US games.  The people do not boo or make any noise when a batter is at the plate.  They really only make noise when there is some significant action going on.  The loudest they got last night was every time Ichiro was up to bat.  That makes a great deal of sense since he is from here.  A couple of the other Japanese players on the Mariners and Athletics also received some nice applause but nothing like the amount for Ichiro.  As you would expect, there was plenty of Japanese food for sale in the stadium (dome).  I had some pork cutlet curry and yakisoba.  Fortunately for my son they also had fast food items and he was able to enjoy some chicken nuggets and French fries.  We also had a soft pretzel and Coca Cola floats; they do not have root beer.  Another highlight was the food and drink vendors in the stands.  Just like in the US, the Japanese enjoy food and drinks while watching the game.  The difference: in Japan, the vendors who walk up and down the aisles are 18 y/o girls who have beer kegs strapped to their backs.  They do not just walk but run up and down the aisles as well.  It was very impressive how well they moved and they were extremely friendly.  Tipping is not customary in Japan but they always have great customer service.

Today was a pretty easy day and the weather was great.  Tonight, my older son and I attended a parents meeting for the upcoming baseball league on base.  Due to a shortage of volunteers, I ended up becoming my son’s team’s coach.  I have coached before and enjoyed it, and I had been regretting not volunteering to be a coach again so I’m glad the opportunity came up.  I will start practice in about two weeks.

I’ll pray for all of us in need, especially Kev’s daughter and the folks near the wild fires.

SJ – I do know how to sew, but knitting might be a stretch for me. Hmm

Joe if we are going to be censored you may have to learn to knit. Keep the stories coming I enjoy hearing about how things are there. Laz I ain't leaving. Charlie, Brutus and I were talking York last night. We are hot to trot. We got a wheelbarrel full of money and ready to go. Poor ole granny has been with me for 53 years today. It was Easter Sunday 1959. I'd let her go but she's too good a cook to let get away.Reg gas was $3.99 yesterday.

Have a great day...S.J.

Mornin' Fellas

Laz - Thanks for the reminder!

Anyone going to be at York on Thursday? I'm taking Thursday and Friday off from work, but looking at the schedule there doesn't appear to be much of anything going on Thursday... what happened to all the tours they used to do? Sad If no one is going to be there I may just use it as an excuse to spend the day building mountains (out of molehills - thanks Roy!)

Fife - you too? LOL! LOL! LOL!

SJ - There is a lot of NICE stuff in the catalog... but nothing NICE enough for me to justify doalling out that kind of $$$$. I like the WM F7s, and the B&O Sharks - but the prices for an A-B-B-A set are crazy! Guess I'll keep saving my $$$$ for when Lionel wises up and reissues the C&O Streamlined Hudson... I'm beginning to think I'll need to heat the basement before that happens. Sad

Good morning. It's 64° and partly cloudy with dense fog. The high will be 80° and it'll be mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain.

Possibility of rain this afternoon and tomorrow? Guess I better get the grass cut this morning. No other plans today.

sirjames - Happy Anniversary.  The college of cardinals is gathering in Vatican City for the sainthood vote now...

88 - I too like those WM F's.  And, I too am deterred by the MSRP.  I need to find a PS2.0 repaint project.  No hurry though.  Will probably get the submarine car, as a Christmas present from Fifepop.

Fife - even with a 20% discount the A-B-B-A set would run you $1,100.00! If the A-A would be $599.99, the Pwd B - $249.99 and nonPwd B - $169.99 then I could possibly see/justify the purchase, then you are talking @ $850.00 for the 4... a bit more reasonable.

I don't buy Lionel's new engines either. I have found myself looking for slightly used newer Lionel engines instead. There's a nice GT SD80 on page 63 but at $529 I'll pass.

Afternoon All!

Took a couple of days off as I'm useing what's left over from my "carry over vacation day's" from last year which needs to be used by the end of March.  So a little bit of leaf blowing and later getting everything ready for food for the lawn.

SJ - I do believe that marriage get's easier as the years go by. We have just passed our 32nd last January and with you now at 53 it must be like a walk in the park. Congratulations and many more!

Rich - I posted about the show this weekend in Edison, my old stomping grounds, before reading HudsonJohns post about saving for York and I fully understand if he wants to hold off this weekend. My sister is right about work at my mother-in-laws but I've been there alot lately and I'm sure she would understand, besides she likes trains also.

JoeD - Thanks for your continueing stories from Japan. The details about the game were great. FYI, our first game this year in our package will be opening day Friday 13th.

Kev - Good luck with your daughter as she is going through a tuff time with moving into thier first house and now the job situation. I think Dennis summed it up perfect. Also, it's tuff to admit to yourself that if they don't want you then it's not the right place to be in the first place and not to take it too personal.

Jack - It's terrible to accept, but sometimes that the squeaky wheel does get the grease! It shouldn't be that way but sometimes........BTY, can I send you a jar of my soil so that you can set me up with a 6 month plan for my lawn???????????????

Dennis - Finally found the $9.99 download, thanks! Like yous it's set for a 2:00am check every day.

Later,

Ray
