Afternoon all. Criminal Procedure and Law of Evidence were rather interesting today. Some of the cases we discussed were horrendous in the sense of 1. that they were committed and 2. who the act was against. One of the reasons that I would like to be involved in law enforcement is to help the people who have had crimes occur against them. Nothing else in the world aggravates me as much as seeing innocent people harmed by some criminal.
I watched Unstoppable again last night and it will never get old. I didn't end up going to sleep until 230, but I can blame that on break and the weekend outings.
Jack, I'm taking night classes as well. I wish I could find a job right now. The landscaping company I formerly worked for split, because the owners (who both graduated grade school with me) could not decide where the company should go. That happened back in August. I sent applications to a few landscaping places, but there's one landscaping company, Allied Landscaping, that I hope to work for sometime soon. Thanks for the compliments on my grades, it really does show that hard work pays off!
Checking out for now, headed back to school for my Intelligence Analysis and Security Management class. Not only will I have an associates in Criminal Justice, but I will also have a concentration in Homeland Security. I'm hoping this will help my applications in law enforcement agencies. I definitely want to join one of the Federal law enforcement agencies, but I am not 100% sure which one yet!

Latest update of Buckeye's Great Raid....
Well, his Chinese parachute opened OK, but his landing was rough. He went thru the roof of Chief's new out house ( commonly known as the Box), and suffered no injuries. It was made out of cardboard. Now they are enjoying a big suthern supper of Beans and Franks. Two Franks eating franks, hmmmmmm.....

Mr. Eagles -- good luck with your heat pump, I HAD one once, emphasis on HAD ..... NEVER again! They should work in your climate but not in Iowa, tell them to check for a small leak .... nearly impossible to find.

Re heat pump, I'm a little disheartened after hearing all the negative reports. I have had one that worked well for many years. However, I'm having trouble now with an inoperative controller which by the way is not replaceable at this point. Mine is combination AC/Heat. The AC still works but not the heat. Have heard that they work better in mild climates like here in So. Cal. They don;t heat well below 40 degrees. I will have to give this some thought before I invest in a new one.

Friend of mine picked up my WBB 10wheeler steam engine yesterday for customizing. He is going to weather it a little and then add trim to the windows etc. He is going to letter and decal it for Atlantic Coast Line for me. I found some microscale decals that I had been saving for a long time. They were really for a GP7 but the logo will work on a steam engine tender I think. He will have to add striping though on each side of the logo. The Coast Line had a lot of these 10 wheeler engines over the early years. Some of them were called "Copper Heads" because the rim around the top of the smoke stacks were made of copper. The only commercial made steam engine that had anything like correct lettering for ACL was by K Line when they did a Pacific. It came with a train only so I passed. Hindsight tells me I blew it. I have asked Mike Wolfe to do one for years but I guess there isn't enough demand. Seems like MTH only does Pennsylvania or Santa Fe in any quantity.
Need to take advantage of the warm weather today and get out and walk.

He must get that from the other side of the family, right?
Chief........about two weeks ago I predicted that the debris in THE BOX would be left there by the former "occupants." Sure am glad your family is like mine, don't feel so different or alone. Please keep us posted on the malfunctioning heat pump. I was giving one some careful thought to one due to my sky high heating costs. After the gang chimed in with an overwheming "NO!!!" my focus has turned toward considering either leaving well enough alone and writing checks, or bone up on a newer, higher energy efficient heating plant.
Colin........I think you have your head screwed on straight. Get school out of the way NOW. I didn't listen to my Dad. I elected to work full time and go to school nights. One of my larger mistakes in life, but I got through it. Took years, but I survived it. Re your great grades.......trust me when I say that the smart potential employers look at them as a gauge of how hard you apply yourself and correctly set priorities.

DougM, Yep smack dab in the middle, we were. Of the 15 houses on our street, none were left. Our place was about 700’ from the Plainfield High School on the Dupage River. The wife and daughter, 2 at the time were in the house when it hit but faired well. Others didn’t. I felt blessed that I only lost one acquaintance and one good friend out of that mess. It sure could have been worse. With over 1,100 homes destroyed and it being a F5 on the ground for over 16 miles in the middle of the afternoon it was a miracle that only 27 perished. That was a dark day for many.

Had I heat pump. First 5 years (under warranty) it was servised 8-10 times. Never heated in the spring and fall. I understand this is typical of heat pumps. Replaced it with furnice and AC unit.

Just got an email from Buckeye. He is starting the "Great Raid" into NC. He has strapped on his parachute and boarded a C-47. He will jump out at 30,000 feet into the swamps of NC. He has a small rubber raft with him and a 100 h.p. outboard motor. He will rent a pack mule to get around on. More details to come..................
It is rainy in SE Indiana. Work continues to be a complete disaster. IT really needs to get their act together soon or it will be a long time before we get caught up again. What normally took one day to do now takes three days and and two or three of us to do it. Quiet nights at home do make it nice to relax. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL and I can drive. Things are starting to get hectic in downtown Indy about some kind of sporting contest that will feature a lot of commercials on Februray 5th. I hope everyone has a good day.

Glad for your friend's recovery, Jack. He is lucky to have you. Laz and Colin, that's quite a weapon. Worked on the layout last night cleaning, fixing and re-organizing. I realized I usually do this around the holidays but for some reason didn't get to it this year.
Good morning. It's 49° and cloudy. The high will be 62° and there's a 20% chance of rain. Got the Athearn F7 fixed yesterday and it runs like a champ. Now I just have to find a good F7-A shell for it. The old Mantua shell on it is showing a lot of wear and tear from decades of use/abuse. Not sure what I'll be doing today. Resting probably. I didn't get much sleep last night and I'm feeling it.

I was buried in paperwork at work today; it made the day pass slowly. However, we did go out to eat Japanese curry for lunch so that made it a better day. After work I played school with the Princess, marbles with the older son, and then ran the trains with all of them. I just finished some homemade chocolate ice cream and now I need to finish some schoolwork.
Jack and Dennis - I am a very reserved person and would typically never say anything to anyone about their parenting skills unless it was unsafe or illegal. This mom's comment was just so silly to me based on what the class is all about. Heck, I have already taught my son four different chokes and he will learn at least four more in the next few months. I coached tee ball in the past and I know how protective some parents are as well. In the end I'm glad I didn't say anything to the mom, but the next time my son is walking out of his class and she is there, I will ask him how many chokes he scored - just kidding.
Kev - You're right. We have many great things in our lives to be thankful for and we should not take them for granted.
Buckeye - Be careful; those Rebs are sneaky.

Today is a busy day. I have a project to work on and the usual chores. I hope to get a nice nap later.
Chief.... I have a 3 ton heat pump and it is a pain. I agree with Jon. This thing has cost me hundreds of dollars in the last 14 years. A small leak cost 800 bucks last year. I would never have one again.
Buckeye.... Good luck with the "Raid". I hope you are "packin' some heat".

Good night all. Busy day. Heat pump is shut down. Would not do its thing for over 30 hours. Kept calling the HVAC owner and he never called back. Sent him a text. Got his attention. Told him I could not believe his men did not come back this AM and check unit as they left late yesterday with questions. He is coming tomorrow morning. I have a Human Services Board meeting in Raleigh but he knows door is unlocked to the Box.
Real warm. Actually warming during the night. Rain tomorrow night and early Friday AM. Then cooler. Want Buckeye to be cool or he might stay if real warm. No one down here wants that.

I am not trying to take over for the negatives here but just wanted to put this out there.
Funny how so many people who think they have all kinds of problems, and make a big deal out of nothing??? I don’t know how good they have had it in real life. Looks like the whole world is all about me.
People need to focus on the good in ours lives.

The EF (entertainment factor) went up a notch at work today. The purchasing agent and one of the shift supervisors are trading jobs starting next month. The resulting learning curves are going to be interesting to watch.
The city came by today and replaced the water line between the main and the meter, moving the meter farther into my yard in the process. I'm still scratching my head over this one - the meter was replaced earlier this year, and I've had a small amount of water in the curb line pretty much ever since. No letter about increased usage, so I assumed that the leak might be on the city side of the meter. About Christmas time a letter comes in from the city about how the water pipe between the main and the meter needs to be 'renewed' since it has been there since 1913. Here comes the good part - the city will do the work for just $500. Seems to me that the pipe between the main and the meter should be the city's problem, not mine. Of course, moving the meter away from the curb line and onto my property probably changes that thought.

Well, I survived the thunderstorms, a couple of tornadoes popped up and I didn't wake up in Oz. So I guess I'm in good shape. I was finally able to work on the Athearn blue box F7. As I suspected, the bearings and the contact surfaces of the trucks were dirty. I pulled the wheel sets and using a doubled up piece of pipe cleaner soaked with Krud Kutter I cleaned the bearings then cleaned the notches in the trucks that the bearings fit into. I found that Krud Kutter is somewhat of an insulator but once it dries full electrical contact is restored. The F7's pickup problems have been resolved and it runs smooth and quiet.Low tonight will be 60. Well, now it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening all. Just got home from Sociology class. It seems good so far and I hope it continues to be that way.
Buckeye: It's hard for me to imagine how old I am now. Whenever I go out with friends, it still surprises me that I'm 21 and able to go into bars!
I think I'm gonna go watch Unstoppable and head to bed afterwards. I've watched it 4 times but I could watch it a million times more!
