This whole thing is a tragedy.  JoePa said himself he wished he had done more.  I too wish he had done more.  That said, I think we need to direct our anger not at each other but rather at the person at fault.  Healing cannot begin until Sandusky is punished.  I hope he pays for what he has done.

Just got back from a run to Michigan to visit mom.  She is doing as well as can be expected.  Wish I could visit her more often, but the time it takes to make the trip prohibits that.

Interesting variety of weather along the way - snow, rain, thunderstorm, wind, and sun.

Have not checked the pot for a couple of days.  Have to catch up later.

All for now.

Evening all,

Just finding time to get on my usual forum visits. I belong to way too many! Said a goodbye for now to a buddy of mine Saturday night, he's headed to Parris Island for 23 weeks for boot camp, and I really wish I could join him. However, my physical health wouldn't allow it as my knee still isn't 100%. School is back in session and the current schedule, while is nice time wise, is made up for in material which is very demanding.

Prayers for everyone that needs them, I will do my best to check in sometime again this week. Night guys.

Hello Colin.  Hope all is well.

Foggy and real warm.  Warming as the hours click by.

8N, glad Mom is doing better.  Glad you had a safe trip.

Charlie, great team.  I see you are on snowmobiles.  That is better than SJ who has dog sled. Whistling

Good morning all,

It is cold in SE Indiana. Work got better somewhat yesterday afternoon.  Did nothing special last night.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East" and "Points West".  TBIL and I will be along for the ride.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Charlie,

As dedicated as I am to Flat Rock, MI, that picture of the snow would make me think twice of moving to MI.Wink

Up early this morning waiting for the tech from Safelite to call.  I have some questions about distorted glass since I've read that they use chinese glass that can have quality issues.  For the record, I don't care where it was made as long as it isn't guardian's junk. Just six horrible months in industry make me nervous about these things.

Went with my brother to the local Ford dealer last night as he traded in his 99 grand am (I thought the sunfire was ready for the yard...) for a 2010 Focus SE. Thumbs Up  That's three of us that went from Forzda to GM and back to Ford after quality issues.  I went to see if they had any 5.0s.Smile

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a clear 32 degrees. Going up to 50 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run and a few chores to do. Starting a new project. Going thru all my old tapes and videos from years past. I will give some to the local public library. They rent them out.

Dining car is here from Points West and we are having an omlet for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning. It's 51° and clear. The high will be 68° and there's a chance of rain.

Looks like it's gonna be a wet one today. A 20% chance of rain this morning shooting up to 60% around noon until about midnight. Tomorrow doesn't look any better.

I'm hoping to finish up the work on the Peerless tractor this morning. At least that'll be that out of the way. When the weather permits we'll get started on working on my father's little one cylinder MTD Yardman. It sure looks small next to the other one. A has a Kohler 20 hp Courage engine which is no bad thing, it just requires more maintenance than the old two cylinder 17 hp Briggs and Stratton on the older tractor. Comparing the two, the Kohler is a gas guzzler. It's kind of funny though. Big tractor, big engine. Smaller tractor (if it can be called that), even more powerful engine. Kind of like shoe horning a 400 cubic inch V8 into a Chevy Vega.

Maybe sometime today I'll have time to work on the Athearn blue box F7. The trucks still need to be cleaned and I haven't even had time to pop the shell off.

Konbanwa,

I eventually made it to work this morning but I was able to have some fun with the kids before I left.  We also shoveled out front and cleared off the cars.  It was a little difficult because there was ice beneath the snow.  The older son had Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training tonight and while I was waiting for his class to end, I overheard a mother tell her son the following words: "If they start choking you again, you tell them to stop."  What makes this hysterical is the fact that her son was waiting for the older BJJ class to start.  Does she not know the point of BJJ?  I was tempted to tell her where they hold ballet classes on base, but I decided to hold my tongue.  It's a good thing I did because I later found out she is an O-6 (Colonel); that would not have been pretty for my lowly E-8 (SMSgt) self. Dunce We had a nice dinner tonight and then some train time.  I will have to spend some time this weekend cleaning the track and lubing and oiling the trains.

Colin - Welcome back.  School is much more important than these forums; just a bunch of old geezers here.Laugh

RT – I hope your computer gets fixed soon; we miss you.

Charlie – It sure is fun to have all that snow.  How come SJ isn’t out there with you?

It’s time to finish some schoolwork and then get some sleep, but not before saying prayers for Frank, 8N’s mom, Char, and Kyle.

Sayonara,

Joe

Aloha Paradise  Colder today than yesterday. But looks like the sun is coming up. Metra had to deal with some malfunctioning switches this morning so I took an earlier train that was delayed. Just like on my layout. Began re-rubber-banding my track together. This will take a long time of crawling around the layout but it'll be worth it for connectivity. As I've shared before, my huge loops rest atop indoor-outdoor carpet on thin foam board above a rock-filled crawlspace. So there's not a lot I can do 'under' the layout.

RT your lack of computer is why I still pay my bills the old fashion way. Don't trust computers for saving things, never will. Folks who take pictures but don't print may never see them again. Charlie's snow pictures were taken at a place several hours north of here and although it's very unusual for this time of year we have none. The dogs are restless and the sled blades are rusting...Enjoy your day....S.J.

I was in bed a littler longer than I would like but what the heck. It is 28 and partly cloudy. Not much on the plate.

Charlie, nice crew. Polaris is the only way to go through the snow for me. Yes

8N good news on your mom. Nothing like a 3 season drive.

Chief, I must be getting to you. I see you are giving me credit for the ability to "thinks".  Laugh

DougM that crawlspace does not sound like a nice place to try to work.  Confused

Fifedog you are so correct…….. they ain't going away anytime soon Sigh

RT get that putor back already. Geeked   What kind is it I want to make sure I don’t get one like it. If my old PC ever gives up.  Dead

I am like SJ, I don’t like online banking, I do have direct deposit and will transfer funds but when it comes to bills I do it the old fashion way with checks and the USPS.

Stourbridge nice looking RI car.  Smile

Kev its a ZT system znd it acually been a good computor they offer 24/7 phone suport and when I bought the putor it had a 5 year warnanty on it. its been a good computor but as in all things electronic they do have some slip thru that have an unseen problem and mine from what I understand had something to dowith the mother board. But its getting fixed free and the company is in N.J. so all I had to do was ship it to them and they will fix it and return it to me free. in fact I got an email on friday thay had it and to give them 3-5 business days to look and fix it and then return it to me and they will send me a tracking numkber once shipped to me.

sir james I

Good morning

32 gloomy degrees

........Folks who take pictures but don't print may never see them again.

Enjoy your day....S.J.

SJ.........I have been unofficially designated the official family photographer, no matter the event.  So the pictures just keep on coming.  I can't afford to do what you suggest, although my wife would love it.  She would be out buying even more picture frames if given additional prints.  She couldn't help herself.

Flood, fire, age, heat, humidity, jeopardizes the prints.  Now you and I both know there is so much overkill going on in my household with digital picture files, and that the concept of "favorite" photos abused to the point where the photos become far less meaningful, no matter how good the shots are.

My bet is that when I am gone, all of the digital files will never be looked at again while the framed ones eventually will.  Photo albums?  I'd need the space of a small library to store them.

Why?  The wifey has me constantly taking pictures (7,500 digital shots since late 2004 and counting, stored on my hard drive and on a 2 terabyte external drive, plus my daughter has them all stored on her pc as well.....3 places).

Given more prints, the wifey would be out buying even more picture frames, given the opportunity to have additional prints laying around to display.   As it is, my wife has all of the walls, table tops, mantel, entertainment, center, kitchen countertop, refrigerator, and hallway walls completely covered in framed "favorite" family photos.  Only the ceiling and the stairwell remain vacant, for now.  That is just the first floor.

Meanwhile, about 8 years ago my daughter purchased a renewable annual contract with JC Penney and has us sit for professionally taken photos a couple of times a year......and each sitting means more print "favorites."  Since I am the family photographer, I appear in about .001% of the photos because I am aleays behind the camera.  So at least these photos are eveidence for future generations that I was alive and part of the family.  "Hey Mom, who's that guy?"    " I'm not sure.  I think he was your great great grandfather.  He must have been a weird one because he is missing from almost all of the family event photos.  Maybe he spent a lot of time in jail." Whistling

Overflow boxes of the wife's precious older framed "favorites" are stored in boxes in the basement.  Why not just rotate newer photos into the existing frames and store the older prints?  Beats me.  Ever try to debate the illogic with the wifey on most things? Bang Head

We also have boxes and boxes of older prints from the pre digital, film days, filling a closet, waiting to be scanned/digitized before their quality has overly degraded.

Add in 18 years of analog videotapes, stored in the same fashion, stored boxes, ready to be digitized and stored on both of my drives and on disk.  Anyone here notice how once you take home movies they might be looked at once every decade (if that), and only when in frustration you "schedule" a viewing event?  I have a lot of video that has never been viewed since shot, dating back to 1995.

An additional 200 or so alleged  "favorite" photos are perpetually stored on the camera that has a 32 GB memory card so we can share photos with those outside the family during our to and fros......she always wants me to bring the camera to places we go.  "Did you remember to bring the camera, and is it charged?"

Simple housecleaning is a lengthy nightmare because of the framed photos abuse.  There are 36 framed photos in my familly room alone, half of which are on tables within grandchildrens' reach.  There are now 8 framed annual "Grandchild/Grandchildren with Santa" photos on the mantel, a photo pictorial 2003 to the present, waiting to be put away until next Christmas.  Every visit to Grammy Pammy's creates a massive cleanup project as the little ones want to pick up every one of the framed photos and look at them......little fingerprints on the glass and the frames, fingerpints with the consistency of glue (Goo Gone first, then Windex and Pledge).

Fail safe solutions beyond the in-house pc and external drive backup, and also sharing all of them with the daughter (off site):  stash the external drive (they are small 5" X 6" x 2") in the safety deposit box and bring it home to update periodically, returning it to the box when done.  Renting external storage on line.  No matter how one chooses to store pictures, if the files are not indexed by date and then subject/event, they are useless; and no one will ever look at them again.

In order to enjoy the photos, all of them, I have been purchasing digital frames and storage cards, then smash the frames somehow onto some of the tables.  Plus our pc screensavers constantly and randomly display the entire inventory of the 7,500 stored photos.  Sharing photos with the Great Grandparents 1100 miles away becomes a snap.....yup, gave them a couple of larger digital photo frames and now send them loaded memory cards.  Yup, Great Grandpa has to keep moving framed pictures that Great Grandma has blocking his surround sound speakers.

Thinning the inventory?  Deleting the junk photos, the duplicates, and just keeping in storage the best shots?  Perish the thought!!!!!  Tried that, but the wife wanted to hang on to them all.  "Oh, this one is so cute.....so is this one."  After days or weeks of review, I might get a 20% reduction out of her.   Bang Head

Good afternoon,

Never seem to find time at home so I am posting from the National Toy Train Museum today.  My latest project is putting the Periodical index in computer format from the old 3 ring binder setup now used.  Should keep me busy for some time as I am also checking the actual binders to make sure we actually have what we think we have.  So far have found a few errors.

Weather here started out with fog and drizzle and now the sun is out and temps in the low 40s, pretty nice for January in PA.

I read the last two pages and it looks like no one is on the sick list, hope that is so, and stays that way.

Keep that snow out west!
