Happy draydelin' boys.  Just got back from caroling.  About 50 of us at the home of one of our newly retired with the big C.  Played the ukulele to the standards (Frosty, Rudolph).  Lots of love shone tonight, just hope he can make it til Sunday.  Actually spent some time with him Monday, talking trains.  It was very important to get his layout up this year for his grandson.

Fifemax, our new 8 week border collie pup, iz in da house now.  Woke up at 3am wanting to play last night...  Youngest princess is overjoyed.

Good evening. It's 55° and cloudy. Looking for it to be 50° tonight with a 40% chance of rain increasing to 75% by sunrise.

Took my mother to Alexandria this morning for her medical appointment. I hadn't been to the hospital there in so long I forgot where it was. Finally found it by crossing through the side streets. The place has so many up and down slanted corridors I frequently thing it was designed and built by a committee that studied the absolute worst in architecture. I got her to her her appointment on time. We were there for a whole thirty minutes before she was called in then sent back out twenty minutes later with a couple of prescriptions. From there we found our way back to the parking garage (parked on second floor). You have to go up to the fourth floor to find the exit ramp back to the first floor. Top of the exit ramp was blocked by a disabled car so we had to turn around and go back to the bottom on the entry ramp against traffic. That was interesting. Finally got out of there. We went to Applebee's for lunch. We both had BBQ ribs with fries and fried mozzarella sticks with ranch dressing. From there over to Kroger. I was pretty sore by then from all the walking I had done so I stayed in the car. While she was inside picking out new weeds (plants0 for her plant menagerie I watched the birds huddling around a lamp post in the parking lot and tried not to get bored out of my skull. She finally appeared at the exit door and I drove over and picked her up and we headed home. Got her back to her home about 4:30. Took care of a few things there then came back here to my home. There you have it, my day today.

Jack, the 87 Buick is my second car.  My "new car" is a 96 Honda Accord with about 103,000 miles.  Should be good for another hundred but the paint and rubber is going bad.

I think the tires on the Buick are out of round from sitting too much.  They make a lot of noise and vibration at speeds of 60 and over.  Plenty of tread left on tires though and it sounds OK around town.  Hate to buy new tires and have the same thing happen again.

Had a good lunch today and overheard folks in the restaurant complaining about the do nothing congress and the state of the economy.  Seems like folks are getting fed up.  Heard on TV that over half the people in the country are below the poverty line.  Is that true?

later,

Ray

Good evening everyone.  Made the trip to Jacksonville and back.  The visit to the fed homeland security office for our fingerprints and biometric screen went well, but I think the security guards are wrapped a bit too tight!  They wouldn't let me bring in a life saver, and no gum.  I told them that the cleaning woman was chewing gum....but they didn't see the humor.

Kev, that's about a three year old buck there, two more years and he will be a wall hanger!  Have a guy near here that had a 180 class buck at his feeder in his back yard.  He didn't want to shoot it off his porch, several other guys have offered to go pull the trigger!

Chief, we got hit with some heavy rains today, probably hitting you by now.  If they are ending around early morning, it would be a good time to be in the woods!

Take care,

Dennis

Hi All.

Well I made into the outskirts of the city to Loyola Medical Center with the daughter and am still as sane ( or insane ) as before I went. As LAZ would say no pile ups!

I must say it is nice to go to a good hospital, compared to the death centers around here.

Good news is she can be treated without surgery and that is the plan for the next 6 weeks so we will see how it goes then return on Feb 1st for a checkup.

The other good thing about taking her is she, the granddaughter and her future hubby took me to Red Lobster for lunch. Something I love and do not have around here.

V8 Dennis  Yes  on the smog test.

8N, prayers for your Mom. Hope it all works out. I have lost my mother, Father, and stepmother. Like you say just take one day at a time.

Chief, Your so right,, corn and more corn. They'll find you

.

SJ, I am going to try to hop on the Tardis tonight if I don’t get too Reclinerized

Have a good night all,

Kev.

V8 Dennis, glad you passed the smog inspection.  I hold my breath on an old 87 Buick too when I get that done but it keeps passing.  It only has about 87K miles on it though.

Later, Ray

Dennis in La.  Nice job on the automobiles.

Chief, Sounds like you shot at the Doe but did not hit it. (no blood).  You probably scared the heck out of her anyway.

Just have a few chores today and lunch with a friend.  Christmas is fast approaching ready or not.  We don't do much shopping at our age.  Just give the kids some money and let them do it.  I think my wife and I will have to go out together and just pick out what we would like.

Nothing new on the train front.  Just running the one around the Christmas tree now and then.

Mornin' all, 52 and cloudy going up to 57 with rain.

Finishing up shopping tonight with the wife and then out to dinner. Something we've been doing for a few years now, going to a place of her choice after each night of Christmas shopping. Seems like lately she wants to divide up shopping into MANY nights the past few years!

8ntruck - Prayers for you and your family. I know what you're going through as that same thing happened to my mother. She was living alone and had a stroke and wasn't found until the next day. I hope her healing is fast and to a full recovery.

Later,

Jeffrey......every picture you post of your layout has such a high level of realism to it.  Those abandonded junk cars were no exception. You have a talent few of us could match.  What type of camera do you use and how do you manage to get the lighting so good?

I primarily use an old Olympus D550Zoom 3 megapixel camera that I picked up on Ebay for $22. For the photos of the rusted cars I was using it on full zoom, portrait, no flash, auto focus, ISO 400, handheld with no stabilization. The lighting was my train room lighting. Four 23 watt daylight bright light CFL's.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a gloomy, rainy, 53 degrees. Going up to 58 today with more rain. This is getting nasty.

Today is a busy day. I have a few phone calls to make and the usual chores to do. I will be done by this afternoon. Then, a nap. It's a good day for it.

LAZ...Those pictures look like my backyard. Wife feeds the deer corn and Doritos. They take the Doritos out of her hand.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Aloha. Ready to take the middle boy to his last day of school for the year. Still dark out. Feel sorry for the kids at the bus stops. Roy, sounds like you did the town right. Congrats to your son!  DennisV8, prayers for the Fiero and for Traindood's hand and most especially for 8n's mom.  Charlie, those ore cars look fantastic!  It doesn't feel like I have this week and next off because my bride has a ton of things for me to do each day. LOL. Hope to escape into the basement later.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Dark Taxachusetts,

8N........prayers for your Mom.  It must be weighing heavily on you, and last night I sent some upstairs for you as well.  Hang in there.

Traindood......It was good to hear from you again, hope your hands are healing up fast.  A few stitches on one and swelling on the other.  It could have been worse.  My neighbor who was about 50 at the time wasn't paying attention and slipped off just the second rung, broke his ankle so bad they had to put in plates, screws, and one of those external adjustable rods on his keg.  The repairs didn't work out so well and he has been procrastinating ever since about going back in to get the ankle fused.

Chief........you got a doe?  Must have dropped your .308.

Jeffrey......every picture you post of your layout has such a high level of realism to it.  Those abandonded junk cars were no exception. You have a talent few of us could match.  What type of camera do you use and how do you manage to get the lighting so good?

Charlie......nice addition with those cars.  What are they filled with?

Gotta run.  I am serving as livery for my son this AM and then have to pick up a shrimp platter at the grocery store that my wife wants to take into work today for a party....if I don't eat them first.

Evenin' fellas and gals.  It has been a while since i had the time to post. I have been doing a total renovation on a bungalow  that i purchased some time ago.  The project took all my effort and energy to complete. It is now 99% finished. Come springtime i will complete the landscaping. For my efforts i have lost 16 lbs.

CHIEF WILL HELP YOU FIND IT. Smile, Wink & Grin

Also i received 22 stitches in my left hand when i fell from a ladder.  Oops - Sign The right hand looks like i'm wearing a boxing glove since i used it to break the fall. Stitches will come out on thursday. Wifey says i should have fallen on my head, that way i wouldn't have gotten hurt!  Bang Head  Swell woman that wife of mine, eh?    Two hands out of operation is a bummer.   Crazy part of the whole thing is, i was only two feet off the ground!  Stick out tongue

Anyway, i would like to wish all of my "pot" brethren a joyous and Merry Christmas!

Good night.  Reclinerized again.

KEV, deer hunting was OK.  Shot a a BIG doe while she was running in field.  Had about a 3 foot opening to shoot through the trees.  When she hit it I let it go.  No blood.  .308 would have bled her if I hit her.  At least I saw deer.  She ran towards my stand while in thick woods.  I had just gotten in the stand and settled.  That was early in the afternoon.

Traindood, I took lesson from him in late summer.  Elbow still hurts from it.  Bad part was bent one section of my extension ladder.  Get well.

Sleep tight.

Mom had a severe stroke Saturday and was not found until Sunday morning.  The past few days have been hecktic, and the next several days are filled with unknowns.

We'll roll with the punches and take it day by day.

Evening Guys...

Christmas shopping with the Princess was great albeit tiring...

Those LS&I ore cars look great!  RMT has a 50% off sale until 12/31...and me without cash....Bang Head.

Sold my tool box for $200 today, I'll have to consolidate my tools into my other tool box in storage.  That happens tomorrow.  Then tomorrow afternoon, I'll get the top box emptied.  One less thing to move.

Thursday and Friday will be with a friend, having lunch and talking.  Should be nice.

Dennis good luck in Jax....too bad I'm not there we could've met up....but I don't miss it there.

Devils lost tonight to the evil NY Rangers....a redemption is in order.

Traindood....gotta watch that stuff...be careful!

Jeff - nice work on those resin pieces!

Good evenin' all!

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum on the way to the store for some Christmas shopping. I was on a local road and I was going about 40mph and I saw crossing my lane a small deer. As I was catching up to it, it had just crossed the double yellow line. Well as we all know there's never just 1 deer. The other was about 15 feet behind. When they saw my headlights they froze like deer in headlights. Oh, wait a minute.... they were deer in headlights. Soooooo I went right between them missing both by maybe 5 feet each. Close call.

HudsonJohn and I are in luck! He found a new hobby shop not even 10 minutes away from where we live. It's call "All Aboard Trains", we met there today to scope it out. His prices are great and best of all he has some S guage stuff too. He just opened up last month. His web site is www.allaboardtrains1.com

Traindood - good to hear from you, I missed your opinions like..........

Later guys, gonna play some games while listening to some Christmas tunes.

Good evening all,

Most of the morning was devoted to doctor appointment.  Main topic was lose some weight but doc says start the day after Christmas because he knows how tough it is during the holidays.

Did some grocery shopping this afternoon and made myself a low carb lunch when I got home.  Salad, low fat cheese stick, celery sticks with no fat cream cheese (only 30 calories in two table spoons.)  Been good all afternoon but we are going to have chinese take out food for dinner.  Don't think that will be too bad if I go light on the rice.

Having lunch tomorrow with train buddy from Thursday night group.  We are about the last of the mohicans in a group which used to have around 20 guys.  We are down to four now but two of them can't come tomorrow.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season.

Talk to you later,

Ray
