Good morning all, Cloudy and cool here with a little overnight sprinkle.  I think I will put in an appearance at least at Cal Stewart today but still plan to be there tomorrow also.  I'm taking my real toy stationary steam engine down there for a test run at the carpet central layout location.

My two adult sons and grandson are out chasing the U.P. 844 this morning.  I took a pass on it today.  Had all I could stand yesterday.  Lots of pictures on the internet in different places including Railpictures.net and trainorders.com but you have to be a member on the latter for complete access other than thumbnail photos.

The old engine really looked good the way they have her all shinned up you could eat dinner off the rods.  I first saw it in 1968 in Ogden, Utah at the 100th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad.  Brings back lots of memories.   I remember some yahoo sprayed water all over the driving rods while it was in the roundhouse up there when it should have been done with kerosene or something like it.  The crew spent hours getting the rust off.

Will report back later on Cal Stewart,

Ray

......... I had the job of being my mother's minder and driver, both of which can be quite stressful. When passing through town on the way back home I stayed beside a tractor-trailer so it was between us and the Leesville shopping district effectively blocking any sight of SALE signs at the clothing stores and therefore was a good thing. The last thing I wanted to do was spend a couple of wasted hours in a clothing store. That woman will buy anything marked down. The only reason she hasn't brought home an escalator or elevator is because none of the stores have any being that they're all one story structures...... http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l608/scott-running-bear/P1012750.jpg

70 degrees and sunny tomorrow.  Should I put up some outdoor Christmas lights, or should I follow the time-honored tradition and do it in a couple of weeks when it's 30 degrees, with a 20MPH wind.  Frostbite......the doctors have to earn a living after all.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Grey and cold - cleared the deck for winter and cut down some tree limbs and other wood. The bride was out with her girlfriends until very late, so hopefully there's a nap somewhere today. Ran trains last night - no pile ups Yes

When I saw this earlier today I thought you found something humerus in the photo then I realized you were laughing at how I blocked her wandering eyes. She doesn't need any new clothes and she knows it. She just enjoys shopping. The clothes never come out of the bags. They just sit and sit and sit and do nothing but collect dust. She never sells or gives away any of the stuff. She has three bedrooms that are full of stuff she bought. Now she gripes about not having room for stuff. I tell her to get rid of some of the stuff she already has and I get a dirty look that could rust gold. So once in a while my older sister, my niece and their respective  husbands stage a raid while she's out and pack out some stuff she'll never miss, usually stuff she's had for two or three decades and they make sure she'll never see it again.

I went out earlier to retrieve my trash cans (four days late but there's no time limit here) and I somehow dislocated my right thumb. I've always been double jointed so that's probably the answer. Since I can't feel the pain from it I had no problem popping it back in place. It's not swollen so I didn't do any lasting damage. This is one of the big dangers of severe neuropathy. You can break the bones and an infection can set in before you know what's happening. That's what happened with my right foot. By the time I knew anything was amiss it was too late. The damage had been done. It's been a slippery downhill slope ever since where one step forward can turn into three steps back. I've been slowly sliding down that slope ever since. Ever had a MRSA infection? You do not want to. I've had two and I nearly didn't survive one of them.

Good Evening

Temp made it to 50, but it was so gloomy it looked like a winter day. Well my 2 Mich. teams won but the Buckeyes lost by 7, tried to play their game on the ground instead of making some good passes. It didn't work. Banilla will be waiting..S.J.

Hope everyone is doing fine out there. Wifey and I plan on going to the Train fair and Farm Toy Show tomorrow in Princeton. Hope to find some deals.

Well checked out the Train fair and Farm Toy Show in Princeton and picked up only 2 things both new in box:    A K-Line NORFOLK SOUTHERN MP-15 Diesel Switcher a K-2215 and a Lionel Docksider Switcher 6-28676 USS.  I paid $ 110.00 for both. Think I did well........ if not, I had a good time because the wife wanted to sleep so me and Jim from next door went. I also got a nice 1970 something Caterpillar 1-50 scale 988B for only $20.00

Just got called into work to run the truck tomorrow so got to go.

Hello all

Weather is getting worse but we are still open for business. Fairly overcast and right around freezing.

Finished the card model I was working on today. For my first one it didn't come out half bad and was certainly a lot of fun.

Here it is ... wait for it...

The semi-rigid polar airship Norge from 1927:

Those little bitty engine cars are about an inch long. Now I know what it is like to model in Z-scale...

The whole thing is about a foot and a half long. What do you need for card modelling?

1) cardstock paper w/ printed model

2) sharp hobby knife

3) good scissors

4) hot glue gun, white glue is ok for flat stuff, but I found anything w/ a bend needs the hot glue

5) hard cutting surface

6) time

7) patience

The last may be the most important. A few things I learned from this:

a) they call it a hot glue gun because well....it's hot

b) the smaller the piece, the harder it is too build

c) if you're unhappy w/ the results you don't have much invested so you just find your lighter and then start over

d) it's a heck of a conversation piece...."you're making a what?"

Jeffrey - hope the hand is ok

Chief - thoughts and prayers for your friend

Good evening all,

A mild day in SE Indiana.  Did a lot of Christmas shopping today.  Very successful.  Spent much time on the phone talking with the kid to make sure we got the proper items.  Bran muffins for breakfast.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all,

Well, I got myself down to the Cal Stewart meet about 10:00 AM today and helped out a litlle at the carpet central layout.  Tested out my stationary Empire steam engine and it ran OK.  However the water sight glass doesn't seem to work and may have to flush it with vinegar or semething to disolve calcium build up in the glass.  Shut it down before water ran too low.  Took a stroll around the hall but did not buy anything today.  Lots of stuff for sale but nothing reached out and grabbed me yet.  Several other layouts on display in HO, S and O gauge.   I particularly liked the S gauge layout.  They had a neat lift bridge to allow access to inside of layout.  Took some notes on how the hinges were made for future reference on my own home layout.  Did not pay much attention to prices but they are usually better on Sunday when sellers are more willing to make a deal so they won't have to take it home.  I did look at some Third Rail scale passenger cars.  They had some of the SP triple articulated dinning cars but too high for my budget.

I had been planning to go back on Sunday but will wait and see how I feel in the morning.  If it's raining I will probably stay home.  I only stayed about 4 hours today.

My two sons and grandson got some pictures of U.P. 844 going over Cajon Pass today as she was leaving town heading for Las Vegas.  Nice to see some steam here again.

Jeffrey, hope your thumb is better.

Chief, hope you are doing OK too.

later,

Ray

Hope you feel better tomorrow, Jeffrey.

Goofed off a bit today, but my son and I did install an expansion tank on the house plumbing that seems to be working as the high pressure was only about 10 pounds over the set pressure for the house after a full cycle on the water heater. :tada: :tada:

Watched Team America with my son and started Step Brothers, but then my wife and daughter got home, so we pulled that plan. We caught up on an episode of Psych instead, and now watching Unstoppable, which is a good one.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going guys Smile

Mornin' boys.  Mostly cloudy and 49 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Having dinner with friends up in Stewartstown later.  Will have to DVR the race.  Go 14.

Been a roller-coaster week @ fifedom.  High point being the grandson being here.  Fifepops had him all to hisself for a couple hours last night.  Broke out the ukulele and Hawaiian music to teach the lad how to chill Paradise.  He didn't cry so I guess he liked it.  Littlest princess will probably need back surgery in the next year or two.  Middle princess is sad because she's missing out back home.

Went down to the marina to hank the sails down yesterday.  A bit breezy, and took me a little while by myself.  Haul out Monday afternoon.

submmbob - That is a cool piece.

Good morning. It's 70° and cloudy with a 40% chance of rain throughout the day. The high will be 78°.

My thumb is a bit stiff this morning but seems all right otherwise. No more popping when I move it. I don't think I'll be doing anything today. I've been busy enough the last couple of weeks that I could stand a day off.

Hey Bob did you think of putting a small balloon with a little propane or other flamable substance in the middle of it as you built it as if you got tired of it you could have an reinactment of the HindenburgWhistling

Okay sick mind here but your model does look cool.

Morning all another beautiful day here at the V.A. Hope all having a great weekend. was 32 yesterday when I got here to work today about same time it was 54 hmmm the difference of one day.

Just a quick splash and go as we will be headed out for the day up to New Hampshire.

Fife.......hope it is nothing too serious with the Little Princess.  My son has dodged some shoulder and knee surgery so far with a lot of time in the gym.

Jeffrey........thumbs up hopefully, and I also hope you are feeling better.  Tape it for support for a couple of weeks.

MikeC..........the early bird catches the worm and lives with less stress around the holidays.  We have to get out and ramp up the Christmas shopping.  The wifey got started, though, on the internet.

Chuck.......hope your leg soreness is tapering off a bit.  Soreness=progress.

RaySP.....you should repost that photo of you running around on that carpet central layout.  Last year was it?  You looked like an Olympic track star, albeit out of uniform.

Brutus.........no leaks I hope.  Rumor has it the plumber was not certified, bonded, licensed, or insured. Laugh

Later, gang.

Well I had a good day of rest going then my mother called. She wanted to go to Stage to do some shopping to add to the mountain of unused clothes she already has. That was at 10:15 this morning. I just got home. It's 4:48 pm. I least I got lunch at Wagon Master out of it. A half rack of ribs and a ten ounce sirloin and all the peanuts I could eat. So much for a restful day. My ankle is hurting and my back is trying it's dangdest to kill me.

Good afternoon all,

Went to Cal Stewart today and met D.Baker and Dennis V8 Vega.  We had a little reunion of forum members there.  I found the second B unit I was looking for to go with my Norfolk Southern WBB executive set.  Now I have an A-B-B-A like the prototype.  Good price too as dealer was blowing them out. I helped run trains at the carpet central layout off and on today.  Didn't fire up my Empire stationary steam engine today though.  Need to run some vinegar through the boiler and sight glass to clean out hard water deposits.  When I left the meet this afternoon it was raining pretty heavy at times but got home without any mishaps on the freeway.  Saw a couple of other friends at the meet too and compared notes about chasing Union Pacific #844 on Thursday.  Don Baker and I had a good discussion and talked about civilizing my layout so old folks can get around on it.  We might get together between now and Christmas to eyeball the situation.  Nice to have met V8 at the meet today.  A big thank you to RAK at the carpet central layout for includiing me as part of the operating team even though I can no longer do set up and tear down due to physical issues.

Good night all,

Ray

Evening all!

Wife and I went and saw "MoneyBall" last night. Really enjoyed it. But it is such a low key quiet movie it was hard to eat the popcorn and not make too much noise as the theater was full.

Busy today. Mowed back yard; once to mulch the leaves and then a second time to vacuum them up. Ended up with four big bags of leaves even after hitting them with the mower twice. Watched Cowboys game and OT win over Redskins and fliped back and forth to NASCAR. Then went out and dug up and replaced a broken sprinkler head (We are now on twice a month watering restrictions) so I can run sprinkler syste tonight. Came in and back watching NASCARdue to the rain delays. Watched Stewart come from way back to fifth and then to lead a couple of laps prior to the latest caution.

Chuck - also rooting for #14. He just made an incredible 4 wide pass on the restart for 3rd place.

Jeffrey - sorry about the thumb.

Fife - was that Don Ho music?? Annnnd where you wearing a Hawaiian skirt too?

Chief - Angel for your friend

Ray, Dennis, & Kev - glad you made it to your respective meets/shows

SubmmBob - nice model "a) they call it a hot glue gun because well....it's hot" - at least there are no burn marks on the model Mischief

Jack - nover put up decorations when the weather permits - it would not be normal. Storm

Doug M - Zzz

Brutus - great about Char and Chewey!

Mike C - I never shop much before the week before Christmas - with less selection it is easier to pick out something Dunce

Have some homemade soup tonight that our daughter's boyfriend made for us. He is a professional Chef

Have a great evening all!

Good evening everyone.  Been fighting some kind of funk.  Knocked the stew out of me since Friday.  Slept a good bit of Saturday away.  Had a great church service this morning that went about a half hour long, so Sunday school was cut a little short.  After our usual fare for Sunday lunch, we came home.  Bride and daughter hit the mall, son and I made a white chocolate and caramel cheesecake for a heart team Thanksgiving party tomorrow.

Bob, great job on the airship.  Enjoyed your "lessons", was a hoot!  I am sure we could all confirm some of them.  I keep a cold can os soda handy for when I re-discover the one about the hot glue gun being hot.  I just make it a point to grab the can instead of letting on that daddy just did a dumb thing!

Jeff, hope the thumb is 100% before too long.  I dislocated my thumb on a tractor one time and it was quite some time to get back to normal.

Gotta run.  May each of you have a blessed week ahead.

Dennis

Made it home from hunting.  Filled a couple tags.  Back up north and more hunting over Thanksgiving.  Thought you all might appreciate this pic of a buck killed by a car near my house over the weekend.
