Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Reffed 5 youth games in the last two days.  Some people made some complaints about my calls or non-calls, but I know I was not as bad as the official who gave the game to the other team playing "my" soccer boys in the sectional final.   That was a travesty of officiating.  I have to wonder how someone can look themselves in the mirror the next day.  When I saw the faces of those fine young men as they walked off the field, knowing their whole season was ruined by some really bad calls, it just made me wonder.  I guess I was a little greedy, hoping two of my prayers would be answered in the same week.  Seeing SFR get a win last week was one miracle, seeing a sectional title would have been the second in the same week.  Guess that is why they are called miracles.  Socccer is winding down for me.  Two more regular season games in my league and then our one tourney game and it will all be done for the year.  I also got the barn door and trim primed Saturday and mowed the yard between games Sunday.  Wife and I went to 50/50 Friday night.  Depressing as he!!, but still a good movie.  Cinnamon rolls on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone can have a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Sunny and in the 80's this weekend.  Trees are turning - lots of yellows and rust colors.  Not many reds or oranges.

My wife and I celebrated our 32nd anneversary yesterday with a trip to the next city east with a dinner at a Japanese hibachi type steak house.

SPman - 'The Entertainer' is a Scott Joplin tune.  Scott Joplin got his start here in Sedalia, Mo.  Every June, there is a Scott Joplin festival here.  Runs about three days and draws ragtime performers from all over the nation.  If you enjoy this kind of music, you might consider a visit sometime.

All for now.

Prayers for new friends, neck, peripheral nerves, backs, knees, and adoptions.  Sure I've missed some - so prayers in general.

I didn't do much today - people were tired and worn out so just took it easy.  My wife picked up a microcell tower through our phone company.  They offset the cost against our bill, so it was only $10 for the s/h -- eventually.  We went from 0 to 1 bars in the house up to 5 solid bars, so it seems to be working nicely Thumbs Up

TARDIS is ready and we have banilla (of course).  We also have fresh biscuits!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Just about covers it all! Ditto!

Late evening all!

We got 1.25 inches of rain at you house today and I think another 0.5 inches last night. It was needed. Was able to cancel the lawn sprinklers running tonight. We go to once a week restrictions Nov 1. The rain last night and today were not enough to change the restrictions.

Tigers-Rangers game canceled today due to lightning. Lots of unhappy people who cannot use their tickets. Rangers mgmt said they could trade the tics for a regular season game next year but not an upcoming playoff game as those are sold out.

Have come down with a cold so cannot sleep. Hope it calms down by the time I leave for York Tuesday. Watching a funny slilent movie on TCM, "Coney Island", with Arbuckle and Keaton. Great slapstick.

 Have a great evening all!

Aloha from another beautiful Fall day in Chicago. Wife recovering from the Marathon. Cheering on her friend all day, not running in it. 8n, happy anniversary! Surprised at the number of folks working today - just another Monday. Although I'll go look for the Columbus Day parade around lunchtime- they 'hide' it somewhere in the city.

Good Mornin Ya'll From Clear and Sunny Taxachusetts,

It is a most beautiful Fall day here in the Northeast with temps starting out in the high 50s and 80 on tap for later in the day.  The leaves are turning here too, a tad later than normal because of all of the rain we have had this past Summer.  A beautiful moon to boot!  My surrounds are filled with many Fall activities and tourists.  The roads and highways are therefore not much fun when you need to go from here to there.  Why the jam?

First, there is the month-long Halloween celebration that takes place in "the Witch City," Salem Ma., one city South of me, which culminates on Halloween.  Zillions of folks descend on Salem from throughout the Northeast and all four corners.  Second, the Fall foliage season is ramping up (see "First,....).  And third, the Topsfield Fair which winds up it's 10 day run tonight and should be absolutely jammed because of the now-cooperating weather and the Columbus Day holiday.

You may have seen Peabody MA on the national news a week ago today, Oct. 3..  After a constant rain in the afternoon and overnight Sunday Oct. 2, they got about 6 inches of rain in two hours Monday morning......wiped out the entire center of the downtorn with flooding.  I'm 6 miles North of there and got only 5 inches, Bang Head but luckily no damage for me.  A lot of local roads were closed due to the flooding as were some major arteries, including Route 128, Route 1, and Route 95......most of the guys on the Right Coast are familiar with Route 1 and Route 95 becaise both run from Maine to Florida.  Cars floating around and rescues-by-boat necessary for those that thought their cars were amphibous.  Duh!!!!!!!

The wife and I had left the house at 6:30AM that Monday to beat the usual "rush (two) hour" traffic on our way out to Fitchburg MA and the Doberman Nationals......after 2 hours sitting in traffic we had made only five miles towards our destination 65 miles away.  Bang HeadBang Head

Our next door neighbor on one side of me sits about 3 feet lower than me, "our" pond came up over its banks, and their driveway and under-the-house garage floor became a  pond extension a half of a foot deep.  I think the high cement step-over to their finished basement from their garage saved the day because I didn't see any debris piled at the curb on trash day.  Took two days for the pond waters to recede and off their driveway.  Gets me to wondering how/if the drywall in the garage was affected.......damage and the specter of mold.

Gotta run.  Will catch up later.

Jack.

Morning all.  Happy Anniversary 8N.  Funny how it gets more important than our birthdays as we get older.  I don't mind forgetting my birthday, but Lord help me if I forget Our anniversary... not that I have done so, but I am sure it would be ugly!

Jack, haven't seen the reports, but judging by yours, it must have been some storm.  Glad you and the homestead are OK.  That is a lot of rain in a short period of time.  Currently, it has been a steady light rain which is a good thing down here.  Cotten in about in harvest and it will soon be ready for the pickers.  They are also doing peanuts this time of year.

Wife is currently looking through our children's old clothes, the few that didn't get donated so we will have some on hand for the new additions.  Also found out some friends of ours are getting a girl from Ethiopia.  Going to be quite busy around these parts.

God Bless,
Dennis

Greetings again from RI52,

Chief......I keep trying to tell you that you could skip all of the sinus and throat issues if you would just stop eating grits and smoking that corn cob pipe filled with the local "crop".  Smile, Wink & Grin  Please slow down and listen to your better half.  By the way, I ran into some lady at the Doberman Nationals who said she works a few miles from Roseyville, said she has heard of you.  Don't know if that was good or bad.  Laugh

Chuck.........at the risk of sounding redundant, it sure is good having you back in action and seeing your posts.  Don't worry about the few weeks you missed here while we missed you.  I suspect Paula's cooking is adding plenty to your spare tire. Whistling

WOW!!!!!!!   Check out the anniversaries!  DougDG with 46 and 8N with #32 !!!!  Your wives are either gluttons for punishment or saints.  WhistlingThumbs UpDrinksSmile

DougDG........ Angeland best wishes for your echo this week.  Don't worry too much about running out of steam in the short run.  Chief's posts have that kind of effect on all of us.  Whistling  Especially the misguided ones about Yankees (not the NYYs).  Laugh

Roy........that's some good news.  First the rain you got and then a treatable diagnosis on your neck!!!!!  Have fun at York!  Thumbs Up  BTW.......playoff baseball in Texas.  Thumbs Up

Brutus........thanks for the info on the "microcell."  My dughter and SIL could use one of those in their house.  Their cellular reception has always been one bar because for the past 10 years they have refused to switch carriers (from Sprint) which I think was and is the issue for some reason.  My Verizon cell is an antique and gets good reception in their house, always has.

SJ.........glad you have been enjoying the Fall, sitting out on your veranda like Chuck, and listening to the Tigers whip Bronx Bum's tails.  Lions are on a roll as well, the best on two fronts.   Better use some bug spray so some mosquito does not lay something on you like Lyme, West Nile, Rocky Mt. Spotted, or something else.  Massive bug spraying is going on in my neck of the woods, even at this late date in the year.  The mosquitoes have been back with a vengeance here at dusk at night.......they must be wearing fur coats. Smile, Wink & Grin

V8.........that was some great news on the social front.  You mentioned "she is very pretty for our age."  Let that one slip just once within her earshot and you might get a Louisville Slugger upside the head.  Smile, Wink & Grin

RT........I suspect that the Wifey may do the same thing with our FB account.  There is such a thing as "too connected" and it can burn up a lot of time one could better spend doing something else.  Over 90% of the stuff is absolute drivel, and we are tired of wading through it to get to something of importance.

RaySP........you are one busy guy.  With the upcoming journey Eastward you will be even busier!  Thumbs Up

Charlie......thanks for the video of SJ's engine and the still shot of him.  He looks so serious, like his Tigers had lost to the Yankers, had to laugh.  Or he is a Supreme Court Justice.  We'll have to start calling him SJdaGrumpLaugh

LAZ.......will you please stop laying a guilt trip on the rest of us?  Fall cleanup 2011 is not supposed to commence until March 2012. Stick out tongue

DJ........thanks for the picture of your Halloween layout.  You really went to town on it and got the rest of us in the mood.  Thumbs Up

Dennis.......man, why is adoption is made so difficult, time-consuming, and expensive?  Bless you for hanging in there.  The same kudos go to DougM and Brent.

No news I could find on the construction front from JimSP.  So I assume the issues with the contractors are setting in.  Big Smile

DonB..........if California gets separated from the mainland, does that mean you will have oceanfront property on one side and a bay on the other?  Stick out tongue

SubmmBob......why are you not out and about cruising in your MGBGT?

JimmyT......I saw a tiny paint bubble on the very edge of my SRX' left rear fender well.  Angst is setting in. Sad

AF Ray and JoeyD......you have my sincerest condolences on the untimely demise of your NYYs.  Traindood, Laz, HudsonJohn, and I want to assure you  we are there for you in your current state of depression, if you need us  Whistling

Later, gang.

Evening all!

Nice day here. Tigers just knocked one over the wall with 2 on base to make it  2-3. Chuck should be happy!

Had MRI today on the neck. Laying in that machine for 40 minutes was very painful as my left arm had no support. The MRI will give the doc a better picture with the nerves showing up.

Jack - we have seasons here in N Texas; two brown (winter and summer) and two green (spring and fall). With the rain things are greening up a bit.

SJ - you are right about York. It is a good time with old friends and a place to make some new ones. I have made friends with several table holders (like DMUingCT) and I tend to spend some time at each table shooting the breeze about trains and what has been going on in our lives since the last meet.

I think the real reason LAZ is not going to York this fall as he is a bit tapped out after buying that 125 old autocar in Hersey last week for $4.6M!

JEFelec and I exchanged texts today and are going to meet up on Thus and Fri. Note that JEF's FIL passed away this week and they are mourning their loss. JEFe said it was expected but very hard as his FIL was the last of their parents to pass away. Angel for JEFelec and the family.

DougdG and others - congrats on the anniv's!

Hope everyone has a great evening.

Regards, Roy

Afternoon All !

Sure has been busy around here !!!  Just to summarize;

I got the job working, as the parking lot attendant.  Started work last Friday night., talk about organized bedlam, it sure is.  My task was to direct cars where to park in a grassy field, (of course it is peppered with trees.)  The cars were coming in at a constant stream for $14 each.  The directions where to make sure no one hit another car door, but position the cars 2 deep with no more than 2 feet between them.  RIGHT!   An interesting note is that the company had been hit with a BIG law suit a few years ago for not giving employee breaks.  Boy, are they ever tight on that now!  Two hours on, and YOUR ON BREAK for 15 minutes!  No matter what your doing.  Interesting that since this is a peak annual activity for them, they are not real well coordinated.  (No radios, one person with a whistle, Laugh.   The lead person told me to take lunch at 8:00, so I did, (30 min).  I get back and the supervisor said you cant go that early!  Go NOW, and dont come back until 9:00.  Tried to protest but thought better of that, so went to lunch #2.  Came back, and was told we were going to close the lot as the rush was over.  So 20 minutes to close, another 15 min., to walk to time clock.   And on the way home.  (Was told I was fantastic and come back Sat. night.

Sat. morning went to computer show and worked until 3, then home and changed clothes to go to the park at 5.  Got there same lot, different supervisor.  Told lunch would be at 9, and 1st break at 7, OK.  Then was given a post and illuminated wand (like Tinker Bell's) and told to wave traffic toward lot, and stay there until either police closed and dedicated the lane for right turn only, or relief came.  (Ok, reminded me of VN standing on guard duty.)  At 7, relief shows up says I'm on break, need to go to guard shack, OK, get to guard shack, told to go back and relieve my relief for his break,  huh?, OK.  Got back to post, there about 15 minutes and police arrived.  Went back to guard shack and was "Whistle Certified" !! CoolBow.  Then directed traffic for 30 minutes, sent to lunch.  Came back, and told to close down the park.  OK.  (Come back Sunday, and "Your picking this stuff up really quick." Idea

Sun. morning went to computer show worked til 3 again, then back to the park.  I advised that upon receiving the setup training, (Cone Allocation and Position Validation Authorized), to complete the lot set up, I was to assume the  "Jumper" position for the next 1 hr..  (Claim Jumper restaurant on major intersection corner, need someone there to point where the lot is.)  I have a sign, and my wand.  Oh boy that was fun.  Traffic was jammed, stalled car in middle of 6 lane blvd, police were in force giving tickets for people running a yellow lights, causing further problems.  No one could turn, due to pedestrian traffic flow, and I was instructed to not interfere.   (About this time I realize I could be replaced by a stick in the ground with the sign attached to IT!).  An hour later I am released, then I go back over to the lot and just look and see where the bottleneck is, and go try to resolve it.  That worked was working well, then continued to direct cars with the supervisor for next hour or so.  (She has the whistle, only 1 per lot, and she IS the boss!)  That section of lot getting pretty full, so I DECIDE to open the adjacent field, WRONG! Black Eye She hadn't blown her whistle yet!  So I think OK your the boss!BlindfoldBow  3 Cars go by, then she blows the whistle. Confused  Now I have everything running smoothly, and boom the lot is Closed 15 minutes later. Question  (Come to find out they wanted cars in the next lot down the street to show lots of people in attendance.)  Anyway, told by Supervisor to go to lunch, OK.  Then come back and the same Supervisor tells me the next time I go to lunch, be sure I tell her first!  Being somewhat bewildered by that statement, I thought I would just let it pass.  (Guy next to me tried to correct her, but shed didn't want to hear it.)  So I come back from lunch and the lot is already cleared of cones, and signage, and were done for the night.  Told to come back Monday and Tuesday for revenue training.

Go in at 8 this morning for "Revenue Training", wasn't anymore than what you would expect.  Except I was given a course on making change.  (But that's alright there are all types of people they need to train as well.)  Tomorrow, I have continued "Revenue Training", (I think were going to cover up totaling up your cash.)

So the next 2 or 3 weeks will be interesting !  (I'm really enjoying this, it REALLY is fun.  Don't think I will last too long, but enjoying it for now.)

In the meantime, Chris was on another field trip to the New York Mountains, in the Mojave Desert.  Came home with bunches of different rocks and stuff.  He tried sliding down some shale and got cut up a little, but he will live.

Wife is with FIL today, he is having open heart surgery for a valve.  Just got a report about 1/2 done and he is doing well.

Hope you get better for the trip Roy, if I knew of a good Dr., I would send him to assist.  Wish I could be there, I might try to apply for a position there next year in the parking lot.  After all I AM EXPERIENCED !   (Are you listening Fife?)

Will be planning on going to Cal-Stewart this year, dont know which day yet, but going to show up for sure.

Think I'm going to go do our weekly inventory, then take a nap.

Take Care !!!!!!!

I wanted to catch up on reading the thread before I posted, but havn't had time yet.

Good evening all,

Last night's Falcons-Packers game was fun.  Although our seats were in the top tier, we still had a great view of the game.  The Georgia Dome is designed very well so I believe any seat is a good seat.  Neither team is my favorite so I rooted for the home team - the choice was easy since we were surrounded by Falcons fans.  We got back to the base around 0230 this morning.  Prior to the game we ate at McCormick and Schmick's; it is a very nice restaurant.  I had fried green tomatoes, fresh Atlantic salmon, and carrot cake for dessert.  Everything was great.  I need to finish some class work now so I can enjoy the MNF game later on.

Jack - Thanks for your concern.  Crying

SJ - Your new loco looks great.  I'm glad Granny is able to cook you breakfast again; you were looking a little malnourished from all the burnt toast you made yourself. Laugh

dbaker - That is some wild stuff about parking lot work.  I have a BIL who valets on Friday and Saturday nights; I'd imagine it is just as hectic.  He loves it and has always made decent money doing it.  He is a scientist in his day job.

Good night,

Joe

Don,

That story about the parking lot is a hoot! Are you sure you are really working as a parking lot attendent or are you really a writer for a new TV show - Automobile Don B's PARKING LOT WARS Automobile.

On that revenue training - remember when you are counting bills - one for you and one for me Smile, Wink & Grin

Rangers up 2-0. Cruz hits grand slam home run. We were watching at a pizza joint we went to tonight. That hit was sweet!

Happy anniversary to DDG and 8NT!

Don - prayers for your FIL!

John - sorry for your loss - prayers for you and your family.

Go Granny - good job!

Jack - my wife had to argue with AT&T and basically told them they needed to fix their problem, hence we got the microcell thingie for just the cost of s/h.  It coordinates with your account and only provides the service to the numbers you have registered.  We had several cell phones in the house, so only had one "open slot".  I think it's actually using our broadband connection to run our phones in the house?

Today was just a quiet day.  I got up and took the kids to school, then came home and actually went back to sleep for a couple hours.  Later, my wife and I went out for a nice lunch together and I picked up some ethernet cable as we are going to organize the home network and centralize everything.  Tomorrow is my "work week" as I have some vacation days I had scheduled at the beginning of the year.  I might take off tomorrow, too!  I'll decide tomorrow morning!

TARDIS is ready, so let's get it on, guys!  Mike is driving and we have banilla and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies - perfect medicine for a sinus infection and certified Grits Free by the RT system!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

test of droid - doesn't work very well :(

That is the truth.  But it will work.  Works great on other forum sites.  This software.  Remember we had to do a compatibility "check" for it to work on Windows 7.  But it is free.

Crashed in the recliner and never made it through 5 O.  Did see a little news but crashed again and missed the weather.  Woke up and Predator Pursuit was coming on.  Took dogs out and let cat in.  Washed dishes and let cat back out and dogs back in.  Off to sleep again.

Roy, GET WELL.

Shake and Bake could be a reality show all by himself. Whistling

Sleep tight.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Finished painting the barn door and trim.  Lot of work, but looks nice.  Wife and I went for a drive in SE Indiana on some back roads.  Very nice and enjoyable.  Watched "Terra Nova".  Still not sure about that.  Got a game tonight.  Not much else going on.  Regular fare on the dining car.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Cool and Crisp Taxachusetts,

V8Dennis......you might ask why I write such long posts.  It is because you and I, like the rest of us, wish for this forum to be an inclusive one, where folks feel comfortable jumping in and feeling respected, or at the least feel a part of something different and accepted.

I praise you for jumping in and contributing.  Over the years this Pot thread has been criticized by a few for being an exclusionary clique, where one's "newbie" thoughts and opinions were not welcome by the "insiders."  If one gets one thing out of my posts and the posts of the rest of the Pot participants, I hope it is this.

Exclusionary cliques are small and confined, and it's members are critical of "outsiders."  If the CTT Pot is comprised by a clique of insiders, it is the biggest freakin' clique I have ever seen because we have 3 to four dozen regular contributors with even more feeling free to come and go and participate as they please.

CTT should be lauded for having the vision to accommodate such a large thread as the Pot which helps feed and grow interest in the "toy train" hobby at many levels, both here and in the train-specific topics.  When is the last time you saw two Pot participants mix it up in an exchange and turn that exchange into something critical and ugly?

Bob, our helpful moderator and CTT liason, has had little policing to do to keep things neutral and family friendly here on this thread.  There may be larger train forums on the net, but none are more respectful and inclusive than this one.
