Is this why I moved back here?????
Truly more like December than October. The Halloween decorations are buried under 3 inches of sno hi zo...I'll dig them out later or tomorrow. Wind is kicking up a bit now.
Jeff in LA - There are a few of us fire eating dogs here, Hudson and I for sure. Been quiet last few days here...surprisingly. Nice '58 Fury, noticed that right away (Mopar or No Car).
Fifer - congas on the Collie, nice Christmas present.
Just a quick post, the princess has her last day at the Corner of Chaos tonight...was cancelled last night (gee, ya think?).
Ok off to see G-men and Miami.....BTW Devils lost last night at Dallas
JoeyD - glad you made is safely to the Land of the Rising Sun ...
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Jeffrey in La., so sorry to hear about your mother's fall Prayers that she will be alright. My wife fell once and dislocated her shoulder. That was pretty scary for us too. Also called in the paramedics on that one as well.
Jack, sounds like you and some of the other guys are having a Marshmellow World (apologies to Dean Martin) over there. I would love to see it if I didn't have to go out in it. Meanwhile I'm stuck here in Southern California with temps in the 80's but heck, somebody has to do it.
Pat thanks for the heads up on my visit to N.C. Hope you're right about no more snohio for a while.
Cooked up a big breakfast today with scrambled eggs. ham, frozen waffles and coffee. Son took the wife and I out to dinner last night at the local feed bag Sizzler steak house. Food is not the ritz but not bad. I like their bleu cheese salad dressing and chicken wings. Steak was OK too.
Chief, nice train picture. Does that tunnel lead to another room or is it a fake one.
Time to get ready for church.
later,
Ray

John and all. The sun has returned!!! We only got six inches of Snohio here, but the colder daytime temps won't melt it all off. I had to make sure the driveway and the sidewalks are safe for the kiddies who will be out tomorrow night T & Ting for Halloween. Low 40s for the high today and tomorrow. So I did my snow removal duties early this AM. I didn't lose power, but many friends did, starting last night and continuing into today. About 200,000 reported power outages in Taxachusetts and 1.7 million in the Northeast.
Fife.......congratulations on the soon-to-be new addition to the family. If your daughter is not in shape, she soon will be. V8 knows his stuff with his Border Collie. Same with RaySP's neighbor. We had one, and she was like the energizer bunny on a ZW. When we got a Doberman, the two ran each other silly and into a state of tired calmness every day. The Doberman loved being chased, and who better to do it than a Border Collie? We had the BC Ashley for almost 16 years. Even the repair of a hind leg anterior cruciate ligament at 10 years of age didn't seem to slow her down much. We miss that dog as we do all of the ones that we have been blessed with.
JoeyD......glad you and your family arrived safe and sound. Hope your permanent housing arrives without a snag.
Ibuprofen, nap, and football time now. I know my body will be complaining if I don't. The shovelling of the very heavy snow was quite the workout.
Later, gang.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Lunch Time,
Joe D, Glad to hear that you and the family made it safe to Japan. Looking forward to your posts.
Pat, The SNOHIO deflector worked well. The Southern part of NJ was missed but the Northern part, which happens to be where i work was hammered. Thanks for the OT. More Trains or is that pay for college.
Jeff, The 2 guys that I was refering to where a sercice tech and supervisor from the Gas side of the company where I work. During the restoration work after the hurricane and flooding they were severly burned in a boiler explosion. If you want I can email you more on it.
We were nailed pretty well with this storm. Over 200,000 people without power. We are going to be working doubles for the next few days. We did have an incident where a guy drove into 2 bucket trucks while they were working. He went thru the cones and baracades, under a truck and was killed. 1 lineman was ejected from the bucket, but he had his harness on and survived.
Have a Great Day,
John
Well - good luck to all those hit by that early onslaught of winter !
Hope you get a break with mild temperatures before it all really starts .
Regards

Snow cannon missed us.
My deflector is working fine also!!
It was a beautiful day yesterday to be driving the fertilizer tender truck in the country out here in north central Ill. Did not think I was going to be at it for 10 hours but the weather was fine so not too bad. Most all of the beans are in and most of the corn will be in by the end of next week if there is no rain.
Sorry for you that the snow cannons hit. Keep your snow shovels close at hand. We do get our share and I am sure the cannon will take aim soon. Pictures of this last Feb shows what we can get.
Day off today and the kids have threatened to come out with the grandkids. That will be nice I can get a chance to run the trains and if we don’t get the rain then I am going to make a huge pile of leaves for them to play in.
Time to make wifey something to eat.
Have a nice day all!!!
Kev.

No snoho here! My deflecter is working fine, thank you very much. Did the new deflector extentions work for you Chief and RT?
Ray, you are good for next weeks trip. No new snow and the snow on the ground will be gone.

CHUCK I said UNCLE!!!! POINT THAT WEAPON DOWN RANGE!!!! You gave us 9 inches of SNO HI OOOOOOOOOO!
Starting to melt and I only had one big limb off a tree come down. At least the power did not go out.
SOUTH CHUCK SOUTH of PA> PLEASE?
Stay frosty,

Good morning. It's 42° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 69° and it will be sunny.Mainly cleanup today. Never did get around to putting the L&A decals on the Front Range hopper. I had more important family concerns to attend to. My mother fell yesterday and couldn't move. She's had previous back injuries and we dared not attempting to move her. Paramedics were summoned and she was taken off to the hospital. I haven't heard anything yet on her condition. She was incoherent and only vaguely responsive. Her blood sugar turned out to be nineteen and that can't be good. The lowest mine has ever been was in the twenties and I remember how that felt. I'm hoping to hear some good news today. For sale: 1958 Plymouth Fury. Name: Christine. Last registered owner: Ezekiel Johnson (deceased). Car has been parked for ten years. Was running when parked. Be aware that the car had a sinister effect on all who have owned it.

Good Morning
32 and sunny
I have probably seen snow before Halloween but I don't remember any. Early November is not unusual though. Granny went to church this morning, first time since she got her new knee. I know she will be ok. I'm gonna have some sausage and gravy on toast...S.J.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
This is my second try.
It is a cold and frosty 34 degrees. Going up to 50 today with sunshine.
I think someone else has a snow gun. This one has not fired in the last couple of days. We need to send Buckeye down south to check this out.
Today is an easy day. Nascar race this afternoon. I will take it easy after exercises. I need to run trains.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y;all have a great Sunday.
Chuck
Mornin' boys. Still dark for awhile. Vehicles look icy in driveway. Will head over to light rail station 10ish, to go to the game with fifepup.
V8 - Fence, pirate ship, big yard, and lots of squirrels and rabbits for moving targets.
Demay - Both parent dogs swim. Not sure I'll make him a sea dog, as cabin sole wouldn't like claws.
Ohayo (Good Morning),
Well, it's morning for you, but it's 2:43pm for me right now. We went to church this morning. The church is off base and is a mixture of Americans and Japanese. Some of the songs are in Japanese which is great; the sermon is in English and the Japanese folks who don't speak English use translating headphones. I'm glad the church has so many Japanese folks in it as it will provide me a better opportunity to grasp the culture. The church service was great and the kids enjoyed the kids' service as well. We had a quick bite for lunch and the kids are now watching Shrek III. It is a little odd to wake up Sunday morning and still find a bunch of college football games on television; the USC-Stanford game just ended about an hour ago.
I read all about the snow the Northeast is getting this morning and I was very jealous. I hope you all are surviving it. I can remember getting a light dusting of snow in October when I was growing up in PA, but nothing like the current storm.
Fife - Does the new Collie already have his sea legs? I'm sure he will make a fine addition to your crew.
SJ - I'll be learning a lot while I'm here. I saw a Japanese toy train set for sale on an online American based classified ads site. It is made by Tomica (Tomy) and looks pretty neat. Soon I will get out and about take some great photos.
Sayonara,
Joe
RockIsland52 I think Chuck is receiving payoffs from the Chief, and the snow cannon is pointed in the wrong direction, Northeasterly. It is 33 degrees here with a Nor'easter bearing down on us. 3" of snow and high winds coming here with the rest rain......9" to 12" snow 60-120 miles points West, especially up in the Berkshires. And the storm is expected to last another 16 hours. Jack

CHUCK !!!!!!!!! WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!! RECHECK YOUR COORDINATES !!!!!!!!! SOME ROSEYVILLE REB HAS SOMEHOW SABOTAGED THE LASER SIGHTS ON THE SNOW CANNON !!!!!!
Well........the snow forecasters have upped the ante. I'll get 6" and whole lot of high winds and rain. Worcester MA (60 miles straight West of me) and all the way out into the Berkshires expecting 18+". One town in the Berkshires alread over 20"!!!!!!
Yes, AF, I've seen snow twice before Halloween. But not like this (accumulation). This is a heavy snow with the temps around 30-32 degrees. The power outages throughout the State have already begun. The worst is expected between 2AM and 6AM.
Carved pumpkins and had dinner with the family despite the heavy rains, winds, and dropping temps. The snow hit right after everyone cleared out.
Jack.
We had a bit of warmth earlier, but the temps dropped fast this afternoon and it's COLD now. Still, no snow in Saint Louis, just cheering fans and a parade for tomorrow Watching Pirates 4: Stranger Tides, which is really very good
TARDIS is ready, so let's get going guys!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Time for me to head for the bed, See y'all tomorrow.
Cold and 34 outside at exit 77 on the GSP!
I'm not the youngest here and I KNOW I'm not the oldest (HudsonJohn), but I don't recall ever seeing snow before Halloween.
How about it? Anyone ever see it snow this early? I'm thinking maybe Jack or SJ has. I doubt Jeff has.

Good Evening
43 now, it was one of those cloudy/ sunny type days. Went to 51. There were 2 games of interest at noon today, watched them and still got in a short nap. The Buckeyes are playing as I write but not looking all that good tonight. Banilla is ready but the apple pie is gone...S.J.
Good evening all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s. Went to see "PussNBoots" last night. Excellent, excellent film. Truly one for all ages. Puts all but first Shrek to shame. Went to local history museum, which had a wonderful Halloween theme to it. Painted the inside of two garage doors today. Really makes a big difference. Had not been touched since before we moved in. Will try to do last one tomorrow. Got soccer tourney schedule. If we make to final game, will have played 3 nights in a row. Could be interesting. "Saucy wench" made waffles and sausages for breakfast on dining car before sending it on to "Points East". TBIL and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
LAZ.... Did you guys in PA get any snow??
Sorry.....

Snow rockets aimed North [trying to miss Banks so he can harvest corn]. Mainly aimed at PA [LAZ]. Second rocket aimed at MA [Jack].
Home from the lake house. Spent afternoon helping wifey "load" the greenhouse. She had not put one thing in it until now. Frosty 34 for tonight. Natural gas heat is warm. Had over an inch of rain. Fair and real windy. Wifey and I are watching the Good Witch series on Hallmark Channel. New one comes on soon.

Had fun with the youngest and his nieces trick-or-treating in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood - from merchant to merchant. A beautiful fall day. Yes, I drove an hour and a half each way for him to pick up a few Tootsie Rolls.

Just got back home thru the white death. Took youngest princess to "meet" her new border collie puppy (one week old). He will be ready for fifedom at Christmas. She is jazzed. Wifey more excited! He was born at a local marina, so you know I like him.
John and RT, I have two new adjustable extensions for the Snohio snow deflector, one for each of you. I activated them a little late so they will only limit your snow fall.
RT, your extension will also cover the Chief.
Working on another extension to protect Ray on his eastern trip.
Hudson#685 Good news, one of the guys that was burned back in September has been released from the hospital.

Yard art behind Ezra Johnson's tourist train station.
Lunch time,
Pat, Please move the Snohio deflector a little west please.
Snow mixed with rain but becoming full snow now. Nothing like a snow storm and a Nor'easter. The panic is this wet heavy snow on tree branches and power lines do not mix. The roads are slick. I did some slip and slidding with my company pickup before. the only good thing about this is that there is some extra money for more trains.
The radio station is playing Dean Martin singing "Let it Snow". I thought that this is Halloween weekend.
Everyone, be careful and have a great Saturday. A good day to work on the trains.
SPMan Jeff in La., Dogs must be crazy about bacon since it smells so good. They probably wouldn't eat bacon strips for dogs after being spoiled with the real stuff.

Well today I'll be receiving a Tyco 'Old Dutch Cleanser' reefer and a Woodland Scenics 'Rusty's Regret' vehicle. That should look good parked amongst the trees behind Ezra Johnson's tourist train station and pizza joint. If it doesn't I'll find another place for it. I should also be able to get a start on making a step by step posting with photos for a friend on how to remove truck mount coupler boxes and body mount Kadee boxes and couplers.
One week to go now on my trip to the East. Don't want to hear anymore about snohio over there until I get back.
Laz, I'm surprised that you got that much this early. What did you think of that Dakota Fred guy on Alaska Gold? He comes across like a snake to me the way he is portrayed. He really stuck it to the guys who did all the work the first season. Of course, the miners forgot to make one of the lease payments thereby giving Fred a reason for not honoring their lease on the property. Duh! The TV money for the show must be saving their bacon though.
Good morning. It's 40° and partly cloudy. The high will be 68° and it will be sunny..Last night I turned the heater on before going to bed thinking that it would be cold overnight. I was right. It was 34° when I woke up at 6:30. It was a nice 70° in here. The heater is off now. I discovered this morning that I have two covered hoppers of the same size that carry vastly different loads. They're in this mornings photo. Now I know that granite even in a powdered or pulverized form (used in cement/concrete mix) is very heavy. I had no idea that beans could be heavy enough to require such a compact and rigidly built hopper. Who says beans aren't a heavy meal!Today I'll be applying the L&A decals to the Front Range hopper and making some skirting for the Bachmann mobile home. I figure card stock should be good enough. After that a general cleanup of the layout and maybe I'll run a train today.
