You missed my post in early June. Was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November. Radio-active seed implants in March. Twenty-five days of supplemental radiation that ended second Tuesday in June. 95+% cure rate!!!

Chief, condolences for your family.

Got all my palm trees trimmed yesterday. They came in the afternoon and it was pretty hot.  I stayed out supervising too long and lost a lot of fluid.  Drank about a quart of water when I came in and more later.  I thought I was having another kidney stone attack but not sure.  I have had them before.  This one is painful but not severe.  I finally took a pain pill in order to sleep last night.  Some pain still with me this morning but not too bad.  I am drinking lots of water thinking if it is a stone it would help flush it out.  Don't feel like it is bad enough to go to the ER yet.  I think I will leave my doctor a message and see what he recommends.

I also need to leave my dentist a message about my denture reline failing.  Man, everything happens at once.

Would be a nice day to drive to the ocean if I felt better.

Afternoon All.

Got an e-mail this morning from one of the runners at the museum yesterday. My earlier description of the roads and parking lots as gridlock apparently applied to the inside of the museum as well.

Finally got my bill for one of my hospital stays, alls I can say is thank goodness for my insurance coverage. It will still put quite a dent in our "disposable income" for awhile.

Hmmm, fresh homegrown tomatoes and cottage cheese.

RRCharlie, Sounds like things are going well.

Whoa, you guys should have seen the truck that is sloooowwwly working it's way towards I-15 to go to Utah. I believe they said it's hauling a worn-out generator from San Onofre Nuc plant. They are using four tractors, not sure of the push/pull arrangement, but the trailer has 48 steerable axles and it is long. We drove by and the road has two eastbound lanes, two westbound lanes and a very wide left turn lane in the middle. The rig was parked in the middle lane and occupied half of an eastbound lane as well as half of a westbound lane. Supposedly it couldn't go on I-5 due to some of the bridges couldn't handle the weight, it should be quite a sight going up Cajon Pass even with four tractors.

The transporter ----- 399 feet long and 20 feet wide, with 192 wheels and 48 axles ---- is carrying a roughly 380-ton load that officials have said is only slightly radioactive.

Wow!  The things that one misses when life gets in the way of posting for a few days!  Chief, sorry for the loss.  Please pass along our sentiments to the kids.  Hope they are able to figure things out soon and have some answers.
Brent and Susan, Congratulations and I hope that you have a smooth and happy trip to home as the whole family!  That is fantastic!  It is amazing how you can love someone so much as a new addition to the family.
Mike, Hard to believe that it has been 5 years.  That is a fantastic milestone and I pray for many more good check up for the future.
SJ, Yes, 95% success rate makes it a great treatment.  My dad had it several years ago and it is still in remission.  The key is to get things seen and taken care of early.  Any problems, go and get checked.
DJ, glad it was an easy fix.  Hope you are able to get the house on market and sold soon.  Dad is planning on selling his house once the market gets better.  I don't think he wants to bother till it has a good chance of selling quickly.  Doesn't want to deal with keeping the house visit ready while having to live there.

Well, the guys are about done with working on the trim of the house.  Brought out a few pitchers of ice water as the heat index is in the low100's.  A high school football player from the area died during practice yesterday from the heat.  With any luck, our house will be done next week.  I am glad my work is done indoors....actually, we keep the operating room at about 58 degrees during a case.

RRCharlie is the latest prostate cancer victim, I had it in1998, It was still inside the prostate, did not hesitate, had it removed. Yes I was given other choices but this was my decision. I was lucky, none of the negatives happened to me.

Cold snap today - didn't get into triple digits.

Stopped in the LHS today.  My Conventional Calssic Sante Fe freight set had arrived.  Of course I didn't have my check book with me.  We opened it on the counter just to drool and discovered that it was incorrectly packed!  It had two flat cars with boats and no flat car with helicopter.  Oh well.  Back to the distributor for correction.

As a matter of fact ... I'm heading to SW CO on the bike beginning Labor Day weekend, the plan is to spend two weeks in wonderful CO, mostly in the Montrose/Duragango area.  About 7-8 years ago Sharyl and I rode the Cumbres Toltec out of Chama up to Antonito--one of the best days of our lives, seriously.  We prefer it to the Durango Silverton, it's just awesome.  I may try and sneak that trip in again this time if I can work it out as Sharyl will be with her sister at Lake Granby and Estes Park.  Really looking forward to the cool mountain air and all the rug rats back in school, Sept. is just about my favorite month of the year. 

Sure glad to hear that they rebuilt that bridge, that whole operation works on a wing and a prayer with finances being nearly non existent from the local state governments.

Doug - haven't seen anything yet, including on FB?  I'll check it again in a little bit.  Thanks for the heads up, I took it as encouragement.  I frankly keep forgetting and then halfway through my fries, I'm like - doh!!!  I try to be good though, don't want pills.  I already take zyrtec, flonase, glucosamine with MSM (whatever that is?), fish oil, One a Day for Men, Vit D, and naproxen....  I think that's it, lol!  A year ago I was only taking zyrtec.  They told me no sudafed, cause it raises BP.  I'm supposed to cut the caffeine down as well, but that is a serious struggle for me.

Woke up feeling bad and wife also felt sick.  Took a personal day and just took it easy.  Light headed and nauseated?  I feel fine now, though - must have been some bug going around?  Kids seem fine though.

Mel - congrats on completing your treatment and hang in there, keep posting!  I'm ashamed to say that I do remember something now and I must have just forgotten.  Prayers dude!

Good evening all,

We received some much needed rain this evening.  It wasn't as much as folks hoped but it was better than none.  After the rain ceased, the kids and I went outside to enjoy a brief respite from the heat.  The two older ones and I pulled some weeds while the youngest moved about in his walker with wheels.  The Princess tired quickly, but the boys and I stayed out in the driveway and played catch and ran the trains. 

The Yankees are clobbering the Sox tonight - sorry Doug.  It's a good thing the Yankees are scoring all those runs since their pitching is giving up a lot as well.

Traindood - I love listening to baseball and football games on the radio.  It helps the mind stay sharp.  I taught my 8y/o son how to keep the box score the last time we were at a Yankees game a couple of years ago.  I've always kept the box score at games since I was a kid.

IIASBDISEIWTITN, but we did get some rain yesterday.  Humidity has dropped and made last night somewhat pleasant for a walk.  Did some LEGO building as well.  Better day at work yesterday.  Posted yesterday morning and three pages were done in the interim.  Chatty group lately.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Hi GUYZ,

  Tired today only ran a 2 miler.  Worked on stone veneer all day yesterday got all the eaves done and all the cuts for those eaves.  Now today going to joint yesterdays work then tomorrow start on the main wide section.  Probably have 2 more days of stone work then all the jointing. 

TRAINDOOD, I haveta keep scratch coat damp when applying this veneer.  As far as BB and radio.  That's how I grew up, listening to the Phillies back in the 60s-70s at nite at one of our neighborhood corner stores.  Gee every street had a corner store and it was these stores that kept us together as a group.  Talk about being bored listening to the PHILLIES back then with the annoucers of BY SALM, BILL CAMPBELL and RITCHIE ASHBURN.  Ah the good ol dayz.
