Good Evening

We had a nice day in the low 80s. Granny reports the gr/son had a pretty good day. My headache has eased enough that I got a few things done today. So there is progress here. Banilla is ready and I'm gonna try and get a thingy ride tonight...S.J.

Brent,

Sorry to hear about Susan's uncle.

Jack,

That's a new one to me.  Be careful if you do try it.  I am not sure if hydrogen peroxide would affect clearcoat.

I spent this past Monday washing and waxing the Mustang.  Work got really interesting yesterday when my boss who had 23 years of experience walked out after the company cheated him out of vacation pay since he took a job with another company.  That leaves me and one other tech to run the department, and we've got about ten months of experience combined.Indifferent  Oh well, vacation next week anyway, so I won't have to worry yet.

Good morning all,

V8 Dennis,  I probably was not at TTOS Southwestern during those years.  I was working on the Southern Pacific during that time on an extra board and living by the telephone.  It was hard to plan any meetings then.  I retired in 2000 and have re joined recently.  My home layout keeps me busy enough though even if I didn't go to the club.  I met a lot of friends over the years there however.  Sadly, a lot of them have passed on now.  I don't like the Sunday meets either.  We normally go to church on Sunday but when there is a train meet, I go to a Saturday night mass.

Chief, I didn't know you were a Yankee fan either.  They were really great when there were only 8 teams in each league.  I used to think it was a no brainer to be a Yankee or Notre Dame fan back in the days when they were almost always automatic winners but it is not the same now.  We liked to root for the Dodgers back in the 50's since they were the underdogs.  Speaking of the Dodgers.  What a mess they  have going on lately with the soap opera divorce of the owners and the commissioner threatening to take over the team for it's own preservation.  I won't go to another game until those blood sucking owners are gone.  The team deserves better than this.  I like to see the Angeles better.

SJ,  Sorry to hear about your grandson's accident. Angel

Jack, I try to avoid getting sunburn by placing umbrellas near the pool that I can lounge in the water under.  I don't do much swimming anyway.  I just go in to cool off.

later,

Ray

Chief..... I didn't know you were a Yankees fan.

Since I was a little kid.  That was when the Dodgers were in NY.  We did not have all these "new" teams all over the country.

Frankie's GF's 5 year old son is named Maddax [not sure of the spelling].  He is named after the Braves famous player.  This is because his Mom is a "die hard" Braves fan.  Well, now he runs around saying he is a Yankees fan because Frankie and Frankie's Dad are Yankees fans.  Drives his Mom "crazy".  Smart kid.  Hope he becomes my "Grandson".  Loves my trains.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny, Dry, and Cooler Taxachusetts,

After reaching/topping 90 here the past two days the temps will only hit the mid 80s today.  I cringe to think about how high my next air conditioning-driven electric bill will be.

Like so many of you, we need rain.  We've gotten lipped by quite a few fronts in the past 10 days or so but the precipitation accumulation has been minimal.  Most of my neighbors have lawn irrigation systems and use them.  I don't, nor do I use the lawn sprinkler much.  Flowers get water, the grass does not.  Some lawn watering bans have already been launched in the surrounding towns, but not yet here.  The color difference between my lawn and the neighbors' should have the wifey pressing me to start watering.  Bang Head

File this next one under "Dogs can be much more than pets" category.  I drove up solo to dog training last night as the wifey, who usually handles Maximus' formal training, is out of town on business.  Training was held outdoors, and the temps were a tick below 90 at the start.  We were joined by a little 7 year old boy, his Mom, and his therapist to observe class and to try to put a dent in the little guy's deathly fear of dogs.  Although he hasn't had any bad experiences with dogs, his fear is so great that he snaps and just takes off running in stark terror when he sees a dog, from any distance; and he has already run right out into street traffic on more than one occasion, fortunately escaping these incidences unscathed.

Previous sessions with the therapist produced nothing positive of note.  His Mom was desperate, but the therapist cared enough to think outside the boxes and give our a trainer a call.........after reading a local newspaper article about the use of certified therapy dogs in rehabilitation scenarios.

Five of the dogs in attendance at last night's class were indeed certified therapy dogs (a 10 pound Boston Terrier, a 15 pound Miniature Poodle,  two 90 pound +  German Shepherds, and a 90 pound Doberman).  The dog trainer had the little boy orchestrate and judge a canine obedience competition among all 11 dogs in attendance, and at the end he had to award first place to his favorite dog.  Yup, it was the Doberman.  He decompressed so much that by the end of the hour he was petting all of the therapy dogs, feeding them treats, and taking the trainer's GSD for a walk on a leash (assisted by the trainer).

We were all astounded at the little boy's turnaround demeanor, especially the Mom and the therapist.  I don't know much about psychology or the clinical treatment for fear.  But the little boy got to choose whether or not he wanted to have anything to do with the dogs, and at what distance.  Nothing was forced.  This does not mean that the boy has lost his fear of dogs, but he sure did make a giant step forward.  I took all of the photos and am going to put together a photo collage of the boy and the dogs (over the net with Walmart) to present to the boy at the next class.  we'll see where this all goes.

Brent..........prayers for Susan and her Uncle's unexpected passing.

SJ...........prayers for your little grandson with his broken arm.  Little boys seem to have a way of finding ways to get busted and cut up while it seems little girls are much more sensible about their approach to things.  And I hope your headache is finally clearing up.

MikeC.......wouldn't that be something if you and your boy could win a soccer championship together? Win or lose is of no matter, but it sure would make for quite the family conversation piece down the road Thumbs Up  Hope someone is getting some photos of you two and this season.  Re your walk with the wifey, we get those in walking the dog.  Things go peaceably until I start giving her advice on how to handle Maximus the dog. Smile, Wink & Grin

Roy.........remind me to skip Texas as a possible retirement location.  With the torrid temperatures you have been experiencing, I imagine that even the rattlesnakes have gone into hiding and are considering relocating North to cooler climes.

Chief..........I'd come down and vote for you if I could slip through the guards you have placed at the MD line.  By the way, the payolla check you sent me after the last election bounced and was not replaced.  Laugh

Banks........I love parades like yours, especially when a grandchild is participating.  But 2 hours and 20 minutes is a bit long without a chair and a cooler.  Big Smile

Dennis.......what would you ever do with a good night's sleep, let alone a couple of them in close proximity?

RT........isn't it amazing how folks can stand under a tree or on their porch during a rainstorm with thunder and lightening?  Makes you a firm believer that some folks should require a license before they are permitted to reproduce.

Traindood, Laz, Chuck, and  HudsonJohn......the Tribe's solid play over the Yankees couldn't come at a better time.  Three of the Red Sox starters are now on the DL, yet they continue to find ways to win.  The "Yankers" have built up their won-loss record playing more at home.  But now they have a 5-6 more road games than the rest to deal with.......and the Indians are making them pay for that earlier favorable schedule. Pass the Pepto and Tums to AFRay, Chief, and JoeyD.  They are gonna need it.  Laugh

RaySP.........your pool water temperatures might be getting up there, but it sure beats no pool.  Folks pay to fly to the Carribean for the sun and the low 80s water temperatures.  Pretty soon you should have a tan like actor George Hamilton.

Traindood.......glad to hear I am not the only one going through a spate of PC issues.  I spent about 90 minutes on the phone with 6 different Comcast tech reps until they figured out their free Norton Security software upgrade (Symantec) was not functioning properly.  After an examination of everything I had loaded on my PC, they "took over" my PC, deinstalled and reinstalled Norton, and then all was well.  Then things went South again, triggered by an Adobe photo software upgrade.  Same kabuki dance, another 60 minutes on the phone, but the tech finally discovered something amiss running in the Adobe background, turned it off, and now everything is running fine.  One click "free" upgrades are doing me in.

JohnB......send us some of that moderate weather you have across the pond!!!!

V8Dennis.......do you still have any of those old hot rods?

LAZ.........Pulaski NY is just North of Seneca and the Finger Lakes.  After your salmon fishing, you may want to check out the road course and the racing schedule at Watkins Glen and also pick up some wine in the surrounding wine country for the wifey.

JimmyT........I got some advice on how to safely remove dried out squished bugs off the front surfaces of the car without damaging the finish.  Hydrogen peroxide-soaked sponge inside a woman's nylon stocking.  I'm going to try it.

DougM........heard ex-IL. governor Jailhouse Rod Blogojevich is going to appeal his 17 count conviction on graft and corruption.  Doesn't that make 3 ex-governors of Illinois indicted, convicted, and in (subject to) jail time?  Or are we now down to just two with Jim Thompson now out of the slammer?  Party affiliation seems to make no difference in these cases.  You'd think you could get at least one governor that could serve and get out without going to jail.  Whistling  How is your wifey enjoying her new ride, the Kia Sorrento.  I suspect your son wants to get his hands on it.  Laugh

Where is Rich?????????  Hope he's busy getting his MOPAR back in tip top shape for the Princess to drive.  Wink

Gotta run.  Later gang!!!!!!!!!!  Prayers for anyone I missed who needs them.

Jack.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Aloha. Great chat with Jeff, Charlie and Brutus last night. A busy day of errands and arranging things at work for a whole lot of summer construction and moves. The biggest project got cancelled. It came in incredibly expensive and that woke everyone up.

Going to Raleigh to take Town Commissioner to sign up for re-election.  Got to take some things back to Overton's so will help him out.  He is not familiar with the downtown area and parking.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 72 degrees. Looks like a nice day of sunshine. Going up to 86.

Today is an easy day. I have the usual chores to do and a small project to finish. Then I can relax and spend some time outside before it gets too hot. Afternoon nap is scheduled.

Indians beat the Yankees last night. That was a good played game for us.

Dining car has rolled in from "Points West". It is serving Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Bad Day, Good Night in soccer as the US Women got pounded in a 2-1 loss that was not that close.  At least they did better than the Norwegians who lost all hope of advancing by squandering a 1-0 lead in a 2-1  loss to the Lady Socceroos.  Now the US women face the possibility of a "Brazilian Wax" that could be quite ugly if they do not step up their game.  On the other hand, my team won 11-0 in a very easy game.  We had one sub so I did not have to play the entire game.  I did have one nice run down the sideline and I also had a shot on goal, but nothing else to write home about.   The cat situation is finally calmed down.  Brent and Susie-Q, I hope all works as you have planned.   Your story has been one of intense interest over the years by all of us on the pot and I think we are all ready for a happy ending (or beginning as it were).  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive.  Work went extremely well yesterday.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Stourbridge Lion, one of three built at Stourbridge near Birmingham, one of which is in our National Railway Museum in York. I believe only the boiler of the Lion survives in the Smithsonion.

There is a working replica of Locomotion #1 at the Beamish museum near Darlington.

It's surprising how much information can be gleened from Wikipedia!

A long day, I spent most of it on the couch. # 4 grandson broke 2 bones in his left arm this afternoon and spent 6 hours in ER waiting for a specialist. He got 1 bone aligned but the other is not, so I guess we wait. Banilla is ready but come in quiet tonight.

Good afternoon all,

So hot here all you can say about the pool water is that it is wet.  It doesn't feel cool very long, more like bath water.

San Fernando Dennis, do you go to TTOS Southwestern in Arcadia?  There is a meet there this coming Sunday.  I will probably go but don't plan to sell anything this time.  Wrong time of year for selling.

Got E mail this morning regarding the Gold Line light rail extension from Pasadena to Azusa.  They are starting work this week, finally on the new bridge across the 210 Freeway between Pasadena and Arcadia.  This section of the line will come fairly close to me on the border between Glendora and Azusa.  I don't think I will live long enough to see it completed to Glendora and beyond.  That part hasn't even been funded yet.  At least when this part is done,  I will be able to ride all the way to Union Station in Los Angeles and from there you can take Amtrak or Metrolink to a lot of places.

Still waiting on my mail order meds.  Meanwhile, I picked up some samples from my doctor's office today to hold me over.  If all else fails, I can always buy the medicine locally but it would cost me a lot more.

Prayers for all those in need.

later,

Ray

Aloha. Beauty of a summer day here in Chicago. Hope your headache has gone away, SJ and that you're feeling better, Brutus. Please share my condolences with your bride, Brent, that is too young. My minor glitch of today is cleaning out my work bag after my lunch 'leaked' - nothing like wiping balsamic vinegar off electronics. Wink. Chief, four more years!  Dennis-in-Cali, '88 was a good year for MR. I was fortunate to have complete versions of MR from the 1980s from our local library which was pruning them.

Not much else going on for now. Angel for those that need it. Congrats to those anniversaries/birthdays I missed (minus Buckeye).
