Running late and really tired, falling asleep now - SJ and RT kept yawning and made me tired!  Beacons on the screen and I can use autopilot until I get to Mike, so he can drive tonight.  I'll catch up tomorrow - Ciao!

Good evening all,

Just a quick post before the wife and I relax together in peace and quiet.  The older two start school tomorrow and I believe my wife is more excited than the kids.  Not a whole lot else is going on here, which is how I prefer it.

I think I may indulge in some banilla tonight.

Good night,

Joe

Jack, welcome back!  In your absence, we were trying to figure who would host the next large gathering of forum folks, their families and dogs....You were nominated and we didn't hear any objections.....so we will be over tomorrow.  See what happens when you leave town and don't arrange for someone to watch your back!  Glad you had a good time.  Our family went to Vermont when I was a kid.  We stayed at a remote cabin on a lake...it was very nice.  I also had some friends who lived in Williston(sp?).  The husband was the COO of Ben and Jerry's.  They are now retired in Montana.

Doug, have a good, safe trip.  Hope all goes well for your daughter.  BTW, I just got a notice from my Am Ex account suggesting that I could get prepaid cards for the kids for when they go off to school...guess they don't know the age of mine.  Though it would be a good idea for emergencies.

Well, time for bed.
Dennis

Smileray.  no offense taken.  the dobie is bred to be a ferocious dog and just the sight of it to strike fear in others.  in my own experience we happenened to get one with a good family temperment.  and he would rip up anyone who would harm my family.  ha..ha..navyjack

Evenin' Guys,

First off, I'd like to thank Fifedog and his family for having us(me) over.  Bow I had a great time and I'll probably be back for a quick visit Saturday after my exam.  It was great to meet JohnF & Brent.  The chat that Fife & I had was wonderful and full of wisdom, which, I needed...Smile,Wink, & Grin.  I really is great to know that the family we have here is real and genuine.  Thanks again, Fife!  And sorry to hear about your troubles with your new engine, and glad its been taken care of!

Blood drive for our firefighter went so well, they ran out of collection bags.  250+ showed to donate.  Real small town America supporting their own.  And this is one of the reasons I came back home.  Saw firefighters their wives and families donating, guys and gals from all over the state.  And yup, the cops came and donated as well.

It has been quiet here and nothing new on the job hunt, but I will prevail, even if I have to work on cars again....Smile,Wink, & Grin

OK guys, will check back later!

Jack, and Navy Jack, no offense but I would not have a dobbie or go near one.  Just don't trust em.  Same thing with a friend's Pit Bull.  She was suppose to be gentle after she got to know you.  She was for a while then took a piece out of my hand one day when we were petting her.  Both breeds good for guard dogs but they seem to be one man dogs.  Anyone else, look out!  My favorite dog is a Beagle.  They will love you to death.

Got my denture back yesterday afternoon and all is well.  Happiness is eating again.

Too hot today to do anything, Just laying low.

Smilehello jack. welcome back.  i too had a doberman pinscher.  he was fearless and loyal and was the most gentle pet to my boys and family.  he did not trust anyone else though. he was a good protector, as then we lived in fontana, ca and had as neighbors, ku.klux clan, mexican gangs and drug dealers.  folks made a wide berth around my house. i guess the fact that i could be seen cleaning my guns on the porch did not hurt either. marines are called devil dogs.  during ww-2 the marines landed a few hundred dobies with cropped ears, at saipan.  they had been taught to hate the smell of japs.  they scarred the japs so bad that they called the dobies devil dogs, and that they came whenever the marines landed. this was told to me by a wise old gunnery sergeant, and they dont lie...navyjack

Good Morning

Sun and low 80s today.

We loved Vermont, granny and I spent about ten days roaming the "bays" and Boston, great trip. It would be longer now as we can't get into Canada without a passport, no we don't have them, never needed them for Canada or Mexico till now. Have a great day...S.J.

Good morning all,

The thunderstorm rolled in hard and heavy early this morning and provided some much needed rain.  It has been raining on and off since.  I am loving the rain and the temp this morning as I drove in to work was only 77; now that's what I'm talking about.

I have a somewhat busy day planned at work which will hopefully make it go by quickly.  I want to get home early enough to play with the kids a little longer since today is their last day of summer vacation.  We had open house at their school last night.  We met their teachers and dropped off their school supplies.  Both of them are excited for school to start which I know they did not get from me.

RI Jack - Welcome back.  Glad you had a great time.  White Christmas is a must watch every Christmas for me.

CNW - Have a safe trip.

Regards,

Joe

Greetings Ya'll From Rainy Mid 60s Taxachusetts,

Time to change the avatar photo.

Took the family up to Vermont for a "camping" vacation, including the dog Maximus.  Wife agreed to this trip as long as she had her creature comforts:  a bed, four walls with a roof, and her own shower.  That is what she got......a veritable 16' X 12' shack right out of the 1920s with an a/c unit hanging out the window in Shelburne, about 7 miles South of Burlington and a mile off Lake Champlain.  Weather was perfect......80-85 by day and about 60 at night, no rain, and one evening where the prospects of a Vermont Winter poked its head in with a low of 47.

Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Winery, Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory, Magic Hat Brewery, Colchester Drive-In movie theater, Church Street Pedestrian Mall (Burlington), Lake Champlain, VT Teddy Bear Company, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory (Stowe), Von Trapp Lodge (Stowe).  Seven year old granddaughter learned to swim in one of the two pools on the campsite (deep end, no floatation devices).  We met lots of folks from all over the US and the world on this vacation, either at the campsite or during our day trips.  And I didn't touch a PC or use my cell phone for 8 straight days!!!!  Didn't even know what day of the week it was......perfect escape.

Vermont is so beautiful and relatively unspoiled.  While we were there I couldn't help but think of the movie White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera Ellen, and Dean Jagger.  Meals (mostly) cooked over an open fire and a lot of day trips.  Camping is a lot of work and includes uninvited guests dropping in (skunk, racoon, and opossum......but no bear).

Took Maximus the dog with us everywhere and some places invited us inside when they saw his good manners.  It is quite entertaining to be approached by so many folks and their kids whose minds say "Doberman=Dangerous dog."  Then the reality sets in that a dog, most any dog, is very much a reflection of its solid breeding (temperament), upbringing, and training.  You guys would have gotten a kick out of seeing the tougher looking characters giving us a respectful wide birth while dozens of kids and their parents are petting the dog.

I have missed so much on the Forum that catching up would be next to impossible.  So......congratulations, good luck, and prayers for those who need them until I can do some back-reading!

Later, gang.

Jack.

Aloha all. A balmy 70 degrees here whilst the next Transformers movie films a block away. Glad they have good weather. Gearing up to bring the daughter back to college this weekend. I think we can make it there (6 hrs), unload her and get back without having to stay overnight.  The bride demurs. I think she wins. Wink The new CTT looks great.

Good Morning everyone.  Brutus, thanks, I will share that with Kim.  She actually has me by a couple of years.  Both kids love Legos and play well together with them.  Mike, yeah, I could have said a number of things....but silence seemed better for the occasion.

Have a few things to handle this week, but do hope to get significant work done one the layout.  We have been making "rocks" for the wall, and soon I am hoping to finish the rough scenery.

Roy, we have a couple of medical students in rotation on our service.  Two of them are from the Houston area.  They were talking about how hot things are back there.  Georgia is hot enough for me.

Hope it is a good one for each of you.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 70 degrees. Going up to 84 today with a few clouds.

Today is a busy day. I have a few chores to do and then PT, this afternoon. Couldn't go yesterday, as I had a repairman come out and look at the A/C. Seems that the capacitor went bad. Working great again.

Dining car is here and it's the uaual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in low 80s.  New CTT made YMCA treadmill tolerable last night.  Lot of good tips in this issue.  Rare day at work as all case reports were done.  Hope to have more of those.  Played "Farkle" with family.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  PT Cruiser problem was an O2 sensor going off.  TBIL after soccer game.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sunny and 80's today.  The forcast is saying it will be like this the rest of the week.  Looks like the summer heat might have broken.

Got my #205 MoPac Alco shell today.  Paint is a little worn, but the screw hole and apron are good.  Also won another #205 shell and a complete #205 on e-bay last night.  About all I need now is a 200 series B unit to have enough pieces parts for my all powered 200 series A-B-A Alco set.

All for now.

Good evening all,

The kids went to sleep at 8pm and I just finished some Bible study reading.  The 9y/o and 7y/o start school on Wednesday so we have been working them back into their school year routine.  The baby sleeps whenever he wants.  I love it when it is this quiet so early.

Doug - Thanks for the info on A/C units, I definitely need to consider that for next year.  I may wait a few more weeks since it is still so hot here and I would be surprised if they already dropped their prices.  I coached my son's t-ball team a few years ago and helped out this past year.  I have not had any problems with know-it-all parents, but I have experienced the extreme opposite.  I found way too many parents do not want to be involved at all.  They merely drop their kids off and leave as if it is some sort of daycare service.  However, the new team my son is on appears to be much different.  The coaches are smart and active, and all the parents were watching practice yesterday even though it was incredibly hot.  I think this will be a great baseball season for my son.

S.J./Brutus - I am ready for a cupcake and a root beer float to wash it down.  That is one awesome way to end an evening.

Good night,

Joe

Howdy guys - only hit 90 in Saint Louis today, woohoo!

NJ - heard they are trying to add more disabilities to the law, so maybe you will get your claim approved in the future.  Hang in there.

Dennis - your wife seemed very young, I can't believe that!  And that was after she and the kids had walked all over Disney World all day!  Your daughter looks like she is having a blast with that lego train Thumbs Up

Daughter had a good one, but still hasn't picked out a present from us.  Apparently, she and my wife are going to some expensive mall on the weekend - yippeee......  Wink

Leftover cupcakes for the trip tonight guys, so be sure to save some room.  Thingy is lit, let's go Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening everyone.  Thanks for the kind thoughts about my daughter.  We are blessed to have her.  The gender was a known thing as after we had our son, on my wife's chart it said "A.M.A.", which in this case doesn't mean "Against Medical Advise"  Instead, it meant "Advanced Maternal Age"...boy she loved that one.  Anyway, as a woman gets older, the chance of birth defects goes up exponentially.  Since our son was a difficult pregnancy, we decided to adopt #2 and chose to get a daughter.  I think my wife always wanted to play dress up for real with her own little girl as she is showered in new clothes and probably has more shoes than Imelda Marcos.

Did have a good afternoon as got home early to take care of a special project for a friend who is trying to sell his lake house.  Then, took family to Waffle House for dinner.  The waitress actually had all her teeth!  Was a good meal, though I can feel my arteries clogging!  While we were finishing up, a young guy on a motor cycle tried to pop a wheelie...as they say, "How'd that work out for ya son?"  He was laying on the ground in the entrance to the parking lot.  He told me that his throttle got stuck.  Anyway, a few scratches to his legs and a big shot to his pride, but he was OK.  I could have called him a bunch of things for trying to pull a stunt, but I think the real lesson will come when he has to pay the repair bill.  I just showed concern and gave him a hand.

Hope everyone has a good night.
Dennis
