Good Morning

Sun and 80s today, possible shower, maybe.

Don B 60 year old engines, a few drops of oil and they RAN, without a battery. Amazing.

Well I feel pretty good this morning but no plans for the day, guess I just wait and see what granny says.  No dinning car, chief went to church......S.J.

Greetings from Pagosa Springs, Colorado,

We made the trip safe and without incident. It was the first time that we flew Air Tran and they seemed to have their stuff together. It was a long drive from Denver, but we stopped at a roadside BBQ which was great. Hertz had a long line that moved slow, but when I got to the front of the line, a manager opened up another section and I was fortunate enough to get him. He told me that he was upgrading our car and I said great. He asked me if I wanted a minivan and I said that I would rather not, that I was supposed to get a Chevy Impala. He than asked me if I would want a Cadilac CTS. We rode in comfort.

Bob, take it easy. The cars will be there when you are better.

Navy Jack, We left out of Philly and of course I had to go by the Navy Yard.

Dining car is opening up.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

hello guys.  four days of heat coming up.  hope the air conditioner keeps working.  here is new navy zumwalt class yachet.  made with shallow draft to go up river.  has firepower of a battleship.  may not be built due to budget cuts.  it would be cool to have a navy yard on your layout complete with o gauge ships.  a lionel navy yard switcher trundling supplies back and forth among the piers. oh well i can dream.  wes have you done anything with your buildings?  ray, had cockatiel pet.  she was very demanding and loved to have her neck rubbed.  she did not ever want to go back in her cage. navyjack

 Evening All!

Did some "consulting" today, an easy day, then came home and started some "retirement stuff".  Wanted to look at some of my old engines and check them out.

- Have an old 1615 switcher, got it down, oiled it up, cleaned the rollers and wheels put it on the track.  And it really runs great!  Only problem was headlight is out.  Checked the books and manuals I have and found out.  Not only the bulb is burned out, but is missing, so is the light holder.  Nothing was there empty area.  So putting a parts to be purchased list together.  Also found out that the switcher I have has the grab rails on the engine, makes it twice as valuable according to Greenburgs 2009 price list.

- Then pulled down an old set of Santa Fe F3's, (2383 AA's), lubed, oiled, greased and put on track.  Ran great!  Only problem of course was the whistle.  Didn't have a battery in it (D cell), but there is some rust, (typical).  So will clean that up and check the wiring and replace as necessary.  (Lots of cloth covered wiring.)  Messed around a little with a  jumper wire and seems to be an internal ground issue, which will be easy to resolve.  Didn't realize it but it too is more valuable than I thought.  I thought it was 2333's until I lit it up on the track, and the number boards were much easier to read.

Finally, I am really impressed with how well Legacy runs the old TMCC units!  And, ran the conventional using DCS with variable track voltage.  Had a fun evening.

Nice chats with SJ and Charlie tonight.  Worked 5 OT then picked up some more supplies for the last two air ducts in the basement.  Took a little nap, went out with the family to eat at Noodles, then let the kids buy some books at Borders.  I picked up the bluray/dvd copy of Kick-A__, which was a great movie though very violent and lots of bad language.  Watching the specials now - I had no idea this was a British movie with a few American actors as it was supposed to be set in New York.  Lots of good info about insurance and hope all are progressing and healing up.  Prayers.

Tardis is ready and we have Sam Adams, Old Mills, a few Bud Lites, and the usual rootbeer, banilla, and other treats.  Let's hit it guys!

PS - Mike, I highly recommend you see Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog as it is from the Buffy writer/director and was really very good, though quirky and weird.

PPS - Still waiting for information about my wife's request for extended leave due to her anemia and bone marrow transplant situation. Now they say we will hear on Monday. We'll see.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening guys.  Just finished watching Star Wars...The Return of the Jedi.  Been some time since we watched that one.  Had to go in this morning to do rounds and then came home to do some  work around the house.  Made shrimp scampi tonight for dinner.

Mike, my dad did some work for Penske racing many moons ago.  He was thrilled to see the car and do some work.  Dad would do some fabricating of parts.  It was a short time thing as he mostly did some work for Penske GM Power and the crew chief just needed a couple of things worked out.  Still, he enjoyed it.  My only brush with such was when I got to ride in the pace car in the Meadow lands Grand Prix which they no longer have.

Have church tomorrow and I am sure I will be on camera even though I am not scheduled.  The one guy is still recovering from his injuries.  I also need to head in and do rounds again at the hospital.  Was thinking today how fortunate I am to have gone into the medical field.  We may gripe about the direction we are heading, but at least we still have jobs.  Too many folks out there looking.  Some friends of ours who have had a auto dealership since 1955 just had to close up shop and declare bankruptcy.  Sad.  Still, we are all blessed.  I have seen folks who are really destitute in third world countries and what we have here is still so much better, even on our worst days.

Kids were playing with the trains when I got home from the hospital today.  Kinda warms the heart to see it.  I really need to spend more time on the layout and getting them involved.  Just need more time in the day.

May each of you have a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

Sunny and high 80's today.

Psih - my wife and I have had that same 'different is not necessarely wrong' discussion many times over the years.  It also applies to the route chosen when driving.

The Battle of the Badges race was a pretty good show last night.  The race went to the guys who could get around the corners the fastest.  All of the Crown Vics seemed to be evenly matched speed wise.  There was a film crew there from Racinboys.com, so maybe there is some video available.  The State Fair Speedway site probably has some pictures too.  The event was a fund raiser for Special Olympics.

All for now.

Good evening all,

It is another beautiful sunny day in North Central Ohio with temps in the 80s.  Great day at the track.  Got to meet Vitor Meira who drives for AJ. Got autographs and pictures with him.  Qualifying did not go well as he is starting 24th.  SFR is 26th.  Only consolation is Swiss Miss is 10th, much faster than Princess.  Great food and large quantities, great accommodations as well.  Dennis W, I know what Heaven is like now.  I guess I will have to be good so I can get there.  Chief will be disappointed when he hears that he missed the story about the NS black diamond train we saw on the way to the track on Friday.  I had hotcakes and sausage on the dining car for breakfast this morning courtesy of MickeyD's.  TBIL from Westfield Center anytime.  I hope everyone (especially AJF racing and SFR and the Swiss Miss) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

It sure is quiet on the pot when the Chief is at the lake. Smile  Hope you all have a great weekend.

Yeah and if running bear left for a week on big blue it would all but stop for the week WhistlingLaugh

You got that right, but he sure keeps it interesting.

We had a really nice day here today. High was 83 and it is down to 80 now with low humidity and a light breeze. It is not to last, to go to 88 tomorrow and into the 90 most of next week. Have a company picnic coming up tomorrow afternoon. Don't have to do anything, just show up, that's the kind of picnic I like.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Good morning folks,  Got my car back yesterday and everything is working fine.  My wallet is a lot lighter but that's life.

Local hobby shop thinks my F3 horn blowing constantly is a top board problem.  Will take it in when the spirit moves me.

My son and his family are back from their trip to Lake Tahoe and will pick up the cockateel bird today.  I can't wait!

Have a good weekend all,

Ray

Aloha all. Looks like a decent day here - going to spend most of it all dressed up at a bar mitzvah.  Boy, the paperwork to renew kid's passports rivals our adoption paperwork. Mower looks shot. But hopefully I'll have daylight to tinker with it later. Hope to watch over the teen changing filters on the van later too. I like a day where I get my hands dirty.  Smile   Glad Charlie made it north all right.  I just watched Top Gear last night and tried to back up our computers - funny how a 1 TB drive is smaller than a 32 GB drive of a few years ago.

Smilehello guys.  hope everyone is well.  smmbob, you are doing ok, i wish i could drive again. thanks everyone for all the good medical advice.  especially jack.  i knew i could count on you.  i have tried most of the ideas you suggested and frequently use members of congress to (light up) self important people.  still i am here in bed, and i will fire the guns over my other arm if need be for home defense.  anyone have the southern rs-3?  i was wondering how the lionel paintjob was.  you guys are all great from the north or south.  and i have learned from all of you and am always entertained by your tongue in cheek humor.  thanks navyjack

Well, I started driving again today and it was OK. Tried not to overdue it. The worst is really laughing, coughing, or God forbid, sneezing. A few more radios and old pieces of test equipment will leave tomorrow. A friend will be staying here for a spell so it's given me a reason to straighten up the spare room some more. Train will move to the living room.

Other than that start cleaning up the Jeep this weekend. New windshield on Monday.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Perhaps I was a bit rough on the fine folks of NC when I was referring to the Chief, sorry to the general folks of the Tar Heel state ....   There must be a significant number of folks in the Tar Heel State that would be good citizens to know..... just haven't met them yet.

Good evening all,

A late post for me.  Spent part of the workday at the firing range.  Expending some ammo is always a nice way to start the weekend.  The rest of the day was paperwork.

Dennis - Because of the heat my son has not been able to get any pitching machine practice in; hopefully things will let up next week.  Hope you kids had a great first day of school.  Ours start on the 25th.

SPMan - Glad you have a knowledgeable MTH tech.  You are right, every shop is different.  I believe the guy was just wanting me to know there may not be too many shops like yours out there.

Good night all,

Joe

Good evening everyone.  On call and had to stay a little later tonight.  Will have to do rounds this weekend.
Bob, he is a good guy who has been there, done that.
Rich, comes right back to you, don't it?  Glad you are enjoying yourself.
Don, I had been told in the past that the self employed make the hardest bosses....you may prove that wrong!
DJ, check with the surgeon, they may have a work around for that.  Regarding the PT, you can also check with them and see if they would be willing to take a reduced rate.  Many times, it is just a matter of asking.
Brent, I think it is all the agencies trying to get their hands in the till to milk adoptive parents.  We got lucky and just had to do it once, but were close to needing to go back.  Now, most parents going to China can expect a 4 year wait....unless they go special needs.

Kids had their first day of school today.  It was only a half day, but mainly to lay down the rules and get everyone acquainted.  We shall see how Monday goes.

God Bless,
Dennis

It's awfully nice NOT hearing from the Mouth of The South and his "the big fish got away .... again" story.  Tough to believe stories from the "Tar Heel State", what the h....  Oh well, it is what it is, more hot air from the south Dead  The sad thing is that he still can't spell Iowa ... reflects POORLY on the school system in his beautiful state Smile and he waxes paragraphs about his new school.  Chief -- adult ed might be a nice idea .............  Have a great weekend you old geezer!!!!!

Okay I'm confused or I wasn't paying close enough attention.   Why is the Chief in Spain on vacation? Did I miss something?  Why is Iowa have a spelling bee for NC?  Speaking of fish, did I ever tell you about the one that got away ten years ago at Oba Lake?

Currently working on an ARRA Project, that's Stimulus Shovel Ready for you guys in Texas.  Got me two of those big green federal stimulus signs, too.  Each of our signs only costs $1300 installed and that was the low bidder!!

Evening all. Wow, the skeeters are sure bad. The cutting blade got loose on the mower so I'll stow it for the evening. Was getting 'eaten alive' by the little buggers. Took home a new MacBook Pro laptop before I bring back the 'ol Dell. I think we're almost officially an all-Mac family. Hope everyone is having a pleasant eveningtide.  Ugh, DJ, good luck with your insurer.
