Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Back in the Hoosier Land.  Had a nice trip back.  Stopped at the LEGO store in Cincy and came out with nothing.  Slightly disappointed.  Taking it easy tonight and then getting honey do stuff done tomorrow.  I had hotcakes and sausage on the dining car for the last time for a while as local McDonald's is closed for a rebuild.  TBIL anytime and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good eventide, gentle sirs!  Alooooha!  Smile  Paint overspray?!  I stained my deck and the siding on the back of my house out about 11 feet thanks to a sudden wind and facing the wrong way, lol!  That siding was replaced a few years ago, but you can still see some on the screens.  Good stain, really has help up well Laugh  After that, I used flood style with rollers.  I was never able to completely clean all the vinyl siding even using goop and comet in a mixture.

Tried Home Depot for replacement brushes for the dremel, but they don't have them.  I'll check Lowes tomorrow.  Next stop would be sears I guess?  Don't want to really, but I found I can order them online, so might do that.  About 10 times cheaper than a new dremel tool!

Picked up another 90 degree elbow for the last vent, but I decided to put another vent at the bottome of the stairs, set in the wall.  I found a register box that is adjsutable for ceilings or walls - has expansion bars to hold it in place etc.  Should be perfect.  A little surgery on that first vent I installed to replace a bend with a T and I should be good to go.

Jack - it's just stressful waiting for decisions and then notification and then trying again - mostly I am impatient.  The good news is that we have been getting her paycheck so we have really been blessed in so many ways through this whole ordeal.

Chief - that's a good trade, man - fishing for paint job!

Chatting with RT Thumbs Up  Back later - ttfn!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Rich, I see you have that ugly looking ASST Chief helmet on your avatar....when you going to get a leather New Yorker with the shield????  Glad you are in good spirits and that you are getting some run time in.  I hear the boys in my old digs are catching a number of jobs lately.

Chief, sounds like a good win-win for both of you.  You get your house painted, he gets some quality time with his son and the use of the lake house.  Sounds great.

Kids had their first full day of school.  They seem pretty excited about the coming year.  We like both teachers and they should learn much.

Sure wish I could make it up to the gathering, but it doesn't look like I will be getting away any time soon.  Hope to see some fun photos and hear some great stories from it though.

Have a great day,
Dennis

Good Afternoon from Central Jersey,

Well, the job hunt rolls on, have a couple of leads.  If nothing happens by Friday, Monday I'll head for the temp agency downtown.  At least I'll have something.

Went to visit my trains and stuff yesterday, kinda miss it, but when I get a job, I'll start looking for an place then.  Princess says shes coming home in June.  She's doing well and happy, which makes me feel better.  We talk everyday.

Thanks RT & Jack, I have updated my Avatar to finally reflect my status.  Just got back from a fire call, and thats fantastic.  I've missed my guys and the rush.  I'm getting in there and doing my thing, slowly but surely, to get my mojo back.

Have a train show next weekend, which I will be attending, in Edison, NJ.  Mom wanted to come with me, but they are on vacation in NC (Chief, look east and wave...thanks).  Purchases are probably not warrented, just a look see, but, hey, ya never know....Smile,Wink, & Grin

Weather has been great, a far cry from the high heat and humidity of the SOUTH.  Honestly, I don't miss it at all, but I am more tolerant of the "heat" that's here.

Last night had a picnic dinner at the park with a close friend, talked and watched the stars until 11 PM.  Saw 2 shooting stars and made 2 wishes for me, I felt I could use a couple right now.

Thanks for the support, guys.  This hasn't been easy, but this is my dream and so far it's been to plan.  I really feel blessed knowing you guys are my friends.  My friends and family have supported me and my daughter, and that's just the best.  Thanks!

check back later!

PS - REALLY looking forward to the CPERG (Coffee Pot Eastern Regional Gathering) at Fife's!!  Hope to see you there!!

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

MTH [I am almost sure] has a diesel in Original NS.  Think I will buy it if Miss Edna still has it.

Chief, you are correct.  MTH did make a VO1000 Baldwin switch engine painted and lettered for the "original" Norfolk and Southern Railway.  I bought one myself.  I was hoping they would do a Baldwin AS616 in the same road name and color.  The old NS had AS614's mainly but they look about the same.  They only had two of the engines MTH made on their roster.  They were not allowed in long haul service because their axle weight was too heavy for the bridge over the Albemarle Sound.  The AS614 was bigger but had more axles (six) so they were allowed on the bridge.

Regarding your SIL clock.  I have a DIL with the same problem.  If they say they will be somewhere at three o'clock, I always figure six o'clock.

Careful with that spraygun out doors. The last time A neighbor did that he had to pay for 3 cars and my P/U to be cleaned and waxed....S.J.

S.J. it is true confessions time. Some 45 years ago I was spray staining my fence and it drifted over onto my neighbor's new Cadillac. Fortunately he was a good friend and helped me wax it out. I still remember it. A lesson learned!

Good morning,

I had a busy weekend and had not posted in a couple of days.  On Saturday, I had house chores and went shopping for school supplies.  The list gets longer every year.  On Sunday, we went to church and then I spent the afternoon calling family.  I had some layout time in the evening.  I worked on the tunnel portals.  It did not progress as quickly as I wanted, but so far it is okay.  I also learned spray paint eats away at foam.  I knew certain glues did, but was not informed about paint.  It is strictly indoor latex paint from here on out.  I still have yet to hook up the K-Line whistle controller I received since the 1044 will not sound the modern whistle.

There is a chance for rain today and I hope it comes.  The rest of the week looks to be very hot once again: over 100.  I'm still playing catch up on this weekend's posts.  Sorry if I missed any significant events.  I hope all is well.

Regards,

Joe

The heat and humidity is settling back in this week in Taxachusetts-land, with some much needed rain in the forecast.  The lawn is getting crunchy in spots.  The shark off of the Cape beaches are still busy feeding close to shore and keeping the beachgoers closer to their beach towels.  Dinner  The drive back from NH last night with the wife and the dog was beautiful with the sunroof open and the cooler, less humid summer breezes.

I spent 3+ hours mowing yesterday morning.  Those in my realm of acquaintence who keep telling me how good the exercise is, walking behind a 22" cut self-propelled mower, bagging and composting as I go, are of course those who don't have to do it themselves in 90+ degree sun with the humidity to match.  Feels good when it's done, though.  What I love is when I finish, collapse in a chair in the shade with my ice water and soda at hand, sweating profusely and looking beyond filthy from the dust, and the wife strolls out of the house fresh as a daisy and cheerily remarks that I failed to weed her flower gardens and water them adequately.  Banged Head

Brutus.....prayers continue for Char.  It must be frustrating with the fine tuning, but you must be so happy with what 2010 has delivered.  It sounds like you are winning the basement resto war.  Will that be the home for a new layout?

SubBob.....glad to hear you are back behind the wheel and mobile again.  Can your tattoos be far behind?  Big Smile

JimSP......the last guy to stain our house's wood clapboard siding used both a spraygun and a paintbrush.  The job went faster and the results were the best we've had in 22 years.  Thorough, even, no paint lines, and no up and down ladders with the paint.  He cut in the trim by hand, last of course.

Rich......glad to hear the pieces are falling into place.  I agree with the others, you need to change that "NJ exile" thing.  Was thinking of you and Bob when the SIL and I dropped into a "cruise night" at a nearby venue Saturday.  It was great to see both the works in progress and finished restoration projects.  What I appreciate is the effort and the dream.  What I hate to hear from some are the criticisms, some of them not so private......probably from folks who never tried to bring some old iron back to life themselves and envy those who are.  Labor of love.

NavyJack.....good luck with your Doc search for the wifey.  You will be successful.  Missions like this usually are when you keep hammering away. Thumbs Up

Chief.....I need you for my next door neighbor.  You'd cut this old Yankee's grass for him, wouldn't you?  I might get some of your tomatoes in the process.  Wink

Spanky.....thanks again for the pics and video of the UP with the 105 car consist.  And just 3 engines doing all of the hauling.  WOW!  Listen to Dennis on this PT impasse.  Guidelines and caps are just that, for the bread and butter cases and scenarios.  There are legitimate exceptions which can get approved.

Yes.....we all miss Laz.  Hope he has sreared clear of the bear.

Prayers for those that need them.  Angel

Later, gang.

Aloha all from a grey and humid Chicago. Sending morning storms off to Sir J and Mike C. Tried to sabbath yesterday. Hunted frogs with the youngest, etc. It is hard with so much that needs doing. Bought a new mower: found a big cordless electric (I've had a corded electric for almost ten years) for a good price at our local Menards (home improvement store). Looks like a busy week here. Sounds like you accomplished much, Brutus. Glad to see the Chief back. Too bad I'll be in NYC at the end of Nov.  Prayers for John's friend. Hope dinner came off.  Looking forward to hearing about the Eastern gathering-of-the-Pot.

Good Morning all

Nice but really busy weekend.  I had a meeting Saturday in Columbus that took most of the day, then preached at Vigil Mass Saturday evening.  I was preaching at all the Masses this weekend so Sunday was a blur, with a Baptisms and receptions after both Sunday Masses.  After all that loaded the debris from the garage tear off and yard clean-up into a dumpster.  A little more loading to do so I’ll swing by for an hour or two on the way home from work.

Jim – I got the green 650’s and 718;  I’ll tell you more about them when I receive them.

Chief – Let me know about how the sprayer works out;  I’ll be painting the house we’re fixing up soon.  It is block with aluminum siding on the gables so it should be easy to paint.

Laz is probably working on the projects to get them done before school starts.

Got to get started

May God bless

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Sunny & 75 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  S'posed to be hot this week.  9th already; months squirtin' by.

Busy weekend.  Lots of cleaning and sprucing up in and around fifedom.  Hosted a dinner party for my 4 best friends and their spouses.  Lots of great food and comraderie.  Wifey outdid herself again, that's why she's "the hostess with da mostest."

Did take fifepup over to M&T Saturday to watch the RAVENS practice.  He walked away with Coach Harbaugh's autograph.  Pretty cool.

All around, good weekend.  Now just need a weekend to recover.

Oh...and thus far it's jefelectric, 88, anjdevil on the 21st.  Get them PM's to me.

Morning all,
NavyJack, someone did a navy yard on a layout that was featured in one of the O guage mags, not sure if it was CTT or OGR several years ago.  Also, I picked up a model of the New Jersey that I am hoping to take the time and build soon.
Well, didn't sleep well enough last night and I have a big case to get to.  Hope everyone is doing well and hope to be done early so I can get  a nap in.
God Bless,
Dennis

Smilehello guys, sounds like all is well.  hot humid weather here.  rt, sounds like you can have s--t on a shingle for many mornings.  new navy times indicates a large rif going to happen soon.  from top down this time.  they figure too many chiefs on the dole and not enough indians. trouble is lots of ships and aircraft will be done without also.  fleets hornets are getting old. they should bring back the tomcats.  pat the tomcat is like a souped up nascar racer, that can fire the genie missile and can take out waves of incoming bombers. it is nuclear however, and i guess the government wants to dissarm.  the uss iowa is sitting in mothballs and there is a lot of rust on her.  i hope they do not leave her fall to far out of disrepair.  my dream layout, in order to be correct, would have a closed navy yard, with cobwebs and derelict ships tied to their berths sitting on coffee grounds.  navyjack

Tardis is ready and some banilla would be great.  Be right over guys!

Got another vent up and adjusted the first one a little and added defusers.  Had to do some "surgery" to get one vent line attached - went through the bottom of the main line, cut hole in the top for the collar, then installed the vent and repaired the main line with some sheet metal.  Started on a 3rd vent, but miscounted and need another 90 degree piece.  Also need to move some of the original wiring and replace a cracked board - might just stub in alongside it instead, which would be a lot easier.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

It is another beautiful sunny day in North Central Ohio.  Beautiful day at Mid-Ohio.  Shameless plug for insurance company.  Westfield Insurance was a presenting sponsor for the race today, and they do a first class job of making sure their guests are taken care of.  Good company to do business with as well.  Vitor was 15th and dropped three places in standings.  SFR had a long day as their driver was punted buy some one else.  Only bright spot was that no one eliminated the Swiss Miss and she finally well and truly pounded the Princess.

On a slightly different note, got to attend Mass that was held at the track.  Helio was there.  Priest said there was room up front for him in pole position.  While the service was very short, it was very moving.  Not wanting to start religious controversy here, but one of the comforting aspects of being Catholic is that we can into any service anywhere in the world and it is basically the same.  Perhaps that would not appeal to a lot of people and there is no theological significance to it, but it was nice today.

I had hotcakes and sausage from the Golden Arches today for breakfast.  TBIL from Westfield Center.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening everyone.  Chief, glad you got back and things seem to be returning to normal.  I would hold off on painting while it is so hot out.  Paints tend to not hold up as well unless between reasonable humidity and heat.

Had good church services today.  Had a nice prime rib for lunch and then tonight, after the evening service, they had the Ice Cream Social.  Lots of home made treats!  Almost sick to my stomach from all I ate.  When I came home, saw the large owl in our front yard.  He is impressive as the wing span is huge and he stands about 2.5 feet tall.  Amazing watching him cut through the trees to get small animals.  Also, saw 5 deer in the yard tonight.  Always a pleasure to watch them....until they eat the young trees.

Well, I have a early case so I will say "Good Night" to each of you and hope that you have a blessed week ahead.

Chief, glad to hear someone else has heard of "little" Washington.  My mom was a nurse at a hospital there when she met my dad a long time ago.  I have a friend that had relatives there back in steam days and he rode the old "Original Norfolk and Southern Railway" to visit there.  He belongs to the Original Norfolk and Southern Railway Historical Society.  He has some pictures on the web under "Bill Sellers Railroad Pictures" showing the trestle across the river at Washington, N.C. and the depot too I think.

MTH [I am almost sure] has a diesel in Original NS.  Think I will buy it if Miss Edna still has it.

All is well on the home front with SIL.  Her and son [along with dogs] are back at home.  He got a little too drunk and not use [married 4 months] to Pam's family's clock.  They were suppose to be home by 9:30.  Got in at 11:30+.  Pam and her sisters will say, "I am going ot the mall to shop for a few minutes and will be right back."  Figure 2 to 3 hours = a few minutes.  After 24+ years, I am use to it.  He is mostly embarrased.  No physical contact was made anyway.

Good afternoon all,

Entertaining to have the Chief back on duty.  Sorry for your relative problems.  Sounds like alcohol played a part in this story.  We have a hard enough time managing our lives with booze (I know prohibition didn't work) and now they want to legalize marijuana in a lot of places.  Can't wait to see how that will improve our lives.

He and I met on the internet and he is a real treasure for railroad history in Eastern, North Carolina.  He inspired me to write an article of my own for the ACL/SAL Historical Society about the ACL.  Funny how these things work out.

Chief, is everybody toting guns in Washington?  I think it is legal in Arizona too.  Used to see guys riding motorcycles with a six shooter strapped on their side like a cowboy when I went to Yuma working on the railroad.

Went to mass this morning and waiting now to see if friends of ours at church want to eat out tonight.  They called yesterday but we were tied up.  Our friend's wife has a rough disability with back trouble and we never know until the last minute wheather she can make it or not when we eat out.  I hope she can.  She really needs to get out as much as possible.  She has been through multiple surgeries etc. etc. and nothing seems to do her any good.  I pray for her and so do all her friends.  She needs all the prayers she can get.

Have a good evening,

Ray

It sure is quiet on the pot when the Chief is at the lake. Smile

Been back over 24 hours and not "said" a word to this bunch.  Actually been busy.......

jonadel

Ioway is the spelling for me.  Means I want to stay away from Iowa. Laugh  The over the hill, hot air, horn blower, band teacher is enough to keep everyone away. That brings up another subject.  All you "crying" about the Feds over ruling the CA law and the AZ law need to understand.  State's Rights is why we succeeded from the Union [not slavery].  Now you are screaming the same thing.  You'll soon be wearing gray and singing Dixie. Laugh

It sure is quiet on the pot when the Chief is at the lake. Smile

Been back over 24 hours and not "said" a word to this bunch.  Actually been busy.  Had to mow all over again as 2" of rain while I was gone [widow lady's too].  Wife went with sisters to a wedding [one of her cousins] in the real and original Washington [NC, known for years as "Little Washington".  Better than the Nation's Capitol as you can own and carry guns there. Whistling].  Got back late [around 11:30 PM].  SIL's hubby got to drinking after work and got mad because whe was real later returning and did not call.  He tashed some of their condo.  He got to screaming at her so she called Raleigh PD.  That did NOT help.  Told her she could have called me and I could have defused the situation.  She agreed.  Now she is staying at my house [with teenage son].  Think Lucy, Finn and I are going back to the lake. Sigh

Hope to paint the outside of the lake house this week with my new "airless" professional paint sprayer.  Put up new larger shutters painted Ivy Green [wife's choice].

Still got some estate things to do.  Maybe later part of the week.

Morning all!

Back from travels. A bright and sunny day here is North Texas. Only going to be in the low 100's next few days. Low's at night 79-80. It's a dry heat!

Hope all are doing well.

Regards, Roy
