Good evening all,

It showered briefly in SE Indiana.  Lucas showed me how to do free weights at the YMCA.  It is another 30 minute routine for me to do.  I had pancakes and sausages on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Evening

Stuffy all day, a small rain storm passed through this afternoon. Not enough rain to do any good. Beacon is humming and banilla is ready, also red pop and orange soda if anyone wants to try it.  S.J.

ChiefEagles
Fifey, don't think I can make the gathering.  Wanted too but have an "obligation" that came up.  Thinking seriously of making fall York.  How many of this gang are going to York this fall?  Got my "forms" in the mail this week.

Chief, I will definitely be at York if alive and well.  It's easy for me as I only live 45 minutes away.  Don't really need or want anything, just go to meet the guys and chat mostly.

Fife, Change me to a maybe on the gathering for now.  Will let you know by midweek either way.

Dennis,

That is a good point about the hatches.  I also made sure to do as you said by building no more than 3 feet inward, and that keeps everything within reach.  I got SPF rolling a few minutes ago.

Good afternoon everyone.  Chief, thanks for the kind thoughts....It is we who are blessed by having adopted.  She has been a fantastic daughter, we could ask for nothing better.

RT, If you are going to make the table to those dimensions, and it is going to be against the wall, you can make hatches that will allow you to reach the whole layout.  You should never be more than about 3 feet from every inch of the top.  You can easily disguise these hatches.

Church was fantastic this morning.  Great message and followed by a good Sunday School.  After church, we went to lunch with some friends and their kids.  We brought the kids to our house so they are all here now.  Should be a fun day.

I am no one to talk, but I really do miss SPF.  hope to see a thread started soon.  If I would get off my keister and start it, it would be done....alas, it is time to say good by.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning

Stuffy could have storms later. Red pop/soda or orange with banilla also makes a good float. Root beers still the best though. No plans for the day, haven't heard from granny so I guess it will be a stay at home day......S.J.

Good morning all,

Navyjack - I guess I got the assignment to Germany because I suffered Smile,Wink, & Grin in Hawaii for three years first.  I'm very fortunate, not too many folks can say the military sent them to Hawaii and Germany back-to-back.  Germany was a great place to live and we hope to make it back there.  At that time I was not back in to trains (mine were still at my parents' house) so I did not come back with any Marklin; maybe next time.  What district is your friend running in?  I might have heard his ads.  I don't vote here, I kept my PA residency so I vote absentee ballot.  I hope your A/C is keeping you cool.

It's finally raining here.  The thunderstorms started last night and continue lightly - I'm loving it.  Time to get ready for church.  I hope it stays cool so I can work in the garage this afternoon.

Regards,

Joe

Mornin' Fellas.

Finally had a chance to get down to the trainroom and install Legacy 1.3. Was really happy and impressed. Then I decided to assign a new engine id to the crane car and boom car. Got them both assigned to the same ID, then decided to put them through the passes using the new icons. The icons make it 1,000 times easier and more fun as you know what you are doing. Thumbs Up. Then disaster struck. Went to raise the boom and NOTHING happened. Looked over the crane and noticed one of the cables was broken. Yep, to boom cable. Sad Called the LTS and was told the repair guys were gone for the day... so will box her up and take her in for repairs. Was also informed that my K-Line Allegheny (which has been in for repair for 2 years) is getting an abdominal replacement. So I may have the crane car and Allegheny back next weekend.

Chief - pay attention here. When K-Line built the Alleghenies (Virginian, C&O, and NPR (I think)) they didn't always wire them correctly or use the correct sized smoke unit for the 2RLDC (??), think will cause the heat sink on the 2RLDC to over heat and drop out. You are then left with a basicly dead engine. The tip-off is the engine will spew massive smoke, then nothing. They are having to replace all the electronics in the engine and are installing the ERR upgrades to include sound and speed control.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a dark and cloudy 72 degrees. Looks like rain any minute. Going up to 88 today with thundershowers.

Today is a good day to take it easy. I have a few things to do and then, I will watch the Nascar race from Michigan. Maybe I'll watch it from the train room.  Not much else going on here.

Dining car is here and it's Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Good evening all,

S.J. - Have you ever tried orange sherbet (sherbert to NEasterners) mixed with Sprite?  My wife taught me that one recently and I must admit it is pretty tasty.  It is no replacement for ice cream, but it is quite refreshing during these hot days.

Green97probe - The Wii is very addictive.  I remember playing it more than my kids when we first got it; I was determined to get my pro card in bowling.

The family and I ended up driving to a town about 70 miles away to enjoy a German meal.  We used to be stationed in Germany and enjoy a good bratwurst and schnitzel every now and then.  So who would have thought you could find an authentic German restaurant in Northwest OK?!  The meal was great and we will surely return.  The restaurant's German name translates to The Train House which makes it even better.  They had an old-looking toy train up on a shelf, but I did not get a chance to ask the owner about it.  I will next time.

Good night,

Joe

Thunderstorms here last night.  Cooled down a bit - only got to 90 today.

Stopped at the LHS.  Gabbed a bit, no new train stuf. The new 1968 Hemi Dart model kits are due in later this week.  Have to take a serious look at that one.

My wife is feeling better.  She is getting board and frustrated of not being able to do stuff.  As a result, I'm not doing projects around the house correctly or in the right order........  We have a doctor's appointment next week.  Hopefully, some restrictions get lifted that will allow her to do some things.

All for now.

Chief -- good buy and glad you are enjoying our contributions to your SS Smile  BTW, I can't take credit - Char was the one that remembered Flips' character.  Great pic, Fife!  Doug - neat pic, sounds like you guys had a good time.  Sounds like you guys are all busy with construction, layouts, laptops, Wiis, kids, and other good stuff.  I worked 5 OT, got in a short nap, and put up the rest of those shelves for my wife - except Home Depot only had half of the shelf boards we wanted.  I'll check back tomorrow and see if they received another shipment.  These are made by rubbermade - pressboard with white paint and edging.  Then I have the last vents to fit and that part of the basement construction will be done.  Train restrictions continue, but since I have no layout at all now, that is not such a problem.

TARDIS is ready and I can see a couple dozen beacons are on already!  Let's hit it guys Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

RT, since I have to crawl atop my layout to do anything (as it's on a rock-filled covered crawlspace). I arranged the track and scenery accordingly - to make a clear path to the back that  is relatively easy to access. I climb up a step ladder, step into the layout and can move about. Not sure how I'd like this in 10 years, but it's not an issue now Wink  - you'll probably inadvertently dent the foam.  Though as I think of it - I crawl around the top of 1 and 1/2 inch foam covered in indoor / outdoor carpet. Sometimes I hear a 'crack' Big Smile

RT,

I would suggest not building against any walls. My last layout was against one wall, and walking on it to work on things on that side got old fast.  Three walls would be a nightmare IMHO.  Also, when you build against walls, you miss out on what could have been nice views.  I had to make my current layout two feet shorter and two feet narrower, but that is a small price to pay for being able to walk around all sides and making working on it easier.  Just myMy 2 cents.

Good evening all,

It rained a little in SE Indiana today but after the important events (soccer) were done.  I reffed two  games and Lucas did one.  None were close.  Had to yellow card a player for contact with goalie after ball was in possession.  Other than that, pretty uneventful.  Was hot today.  Been working out at YMCA again.  Doing more routines.  Rode bike machine for half hour.  Finally learned how to make it work for me.  Lucas will show me routine on free weights.  Will have up to five options when going out there now.  Still boring.  Still hate it.  Navyjack, glad to hear you will have layout soon.  Watched two movies with wife this weekend, "Night at the Museum", and "The Expendables".  I had regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening all. not a lot happening tonight. Hope all having a good weekend. No train activity today. Been thinking about what I want to do with my layout when I build it. Been wondering how strong the 2" pink foam is. What I'm asking will it dent with weight like my weight if I have it on bench work covered with 1/2" - 3/4" plywood then the 2" foam. I 'm wondering if there is a better substance to use when I do this. as for a good part of it i will need to craw across the layout to build it. as it will be about 8' X 16' with 3 sides up against walls.

Just thinking. Time will tell but think its time to start thinking of finally building this.

I am loving this Toshiba laptop.

My laptop is Toshiba and it has worked well as I traveled all over the USA.  Use to watch movies while flying if they did not have "on board" movies.  Trained Bass Pro Shop employees and Cabela's employees using Power Point presentations.  Now, not traveling, it goes to the lake house with me.  When I get time, I go to the "country store" and use his wireless.  It is a great performer.  Now my new desktop is a Dell.

Enjoy.

Jim,

I was tempted to give you some competition on the 650s when I saw that there was one bid placed when I checked around the 2 hour mark.Big Smile  They looked very nice.  I am not sure if I told you, but a white Elmer's paint pen (in the craft section of Walmart) makes restoring the window outlines easy.

Joe,

I am planning on picking up a black Wii when I get paid this week.  I became addicted to bowling thanks to the display at Best Buy.  I am there usually once or twice a week.Laugh

I had to work today, but I am on vacation starting tomorrow.  I am planning on getting back to work on the layout this week.  I haven't been able to set aside time to do any work lately, so it'll be a nice change of pace.

I am loving this Toshiba laptop.  So much nicer than my dead Comcrap, oops I mean Compaq.Smile,Wink, & Grin  I also found that many applications that were incompatible with Vista and the 32 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium work flawlessly with the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium.Thumbs Up  I've been playing Mad Dog McCree, Mad Dog 2 The Lost Gold, and Who Shot Johnny Rock.  I need to install Tomb Raider 2 and 3 as well.  I've always liked Tomb Raider.  I don't know why that is.Whistling

Good afternoon,

Just taking a break from the heat and enjoying a fruit smoothie with the kids.  I want to get some work done on the layout; however, it is in the garage and the temp may be too hot to work on it.  So far the kids and I have been playing the Wii and some games outside (only made it 15 minutes before the heat was too much).

Chief - I hope you will post some photos of that new GP 20 all of us working stiffs help buy. Big Smile

Afternoon all!

Gee whiz it is sunny here and 103. All week the weather talk was about a cool front this weekend so the high is predicted at 105 tomorrow Cool Heat index will be 287!

Have a church volunteer event tomorrow and it will be outdoors! Friends of ours set up an event years ago to give away free backpacks and school supplies to the elementary age kids in their church's neighborhood which is in a depressed area of town. Kids start with a backback and then play games to win supplies (paper, pencils, rulers, crayons, etc.) to fill the backpack. The games are not hard so everyone wins!. It is a very enjoyable event even in the heat.

Last night we chaperoned the HS band pre-school picnic - also outdoors. It was 110 in the shade and the heat index was 315. Cool shower sure felt good afterwards. It was still 98 at 10 pm last night. My wife's sisters live 6 months a year in Phoenix area (Surprise AZ) and mentioned we should come there. Since we have not made it Phoenix has come to us.

There is a local chapter TCA event here nexy weekend. Digging out some trains to sale. Got a Lionel Pennsy Camelback, some G scale cars and two G locos, an AF Hudson, a Lionel SF Dash 8 set, etc. dug out to take. Still digging.

Good NASCAR race today. Not a lot of cautions and some good racing.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

SJ, knock down a nice piece of change from SS.  If I had kept working until I was 62, would have made a lot more.  I had paid in a bunch.  Now they will soon force me to take out for health ins and I already have free health ins. Disapprove

Just purchased a MTH NS GP 20 in original NS and 4 new MTH corrigated car carriers [scale].  [still have some SS to spend]   Was nice to visit with the Todd's Train Depot gang again.  Jerry [Miss Edna's advisor and regular] has drawn a nice picture of me that I will scan and post.  It will make you laugh.

Wifey wants to go to FIL's to pick blueberries [he has acres].

Later.

Good morning all,

A nice Saturday morning so far.  I woke up at 0630 with the baby, and then fed the older two French toast and waffles when they woke up.  I had oatmeal; something is wrong with that picture.  No rain in sight; the weather report now says we will not see any until tomorrow.  I guess I'll have to cut the grass today.  I'm hoping to test out the K-Line whistle controller today, and maybe outline some spots for houses on the layout.

Time to get moving,

Joe
