Aloha all from another gorgeous day in Chicago. Bride actually beat me at waking up today at 0500 to go sit in line at the elementary school to score a 'pick-up' pass for the youngest. Swapping out computers today, always challenging to reset everything to folk's preferences. Another 8 to do before noon. Laz should resurface soon as school is starting. Can't wait to hear more about his summer.  Ran more trains last night with the youngest. As Dennis mentioned, what a great hobby we share!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cooler 62 degrees. Humidity down. Going up to 82 today with sunshine. It must have rained somewhere. Not here.

Today is a busy day. I have a few chores and then, I will go to PT. Missed going yesterday. Something came up that I had to deal with. Glad it's done. Legs need a workout.

Anyone hear from LAZ ?

Dining car is here and it's the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Happy Monday!  Cold here - only got into the 80's today.

Walked 1/2 mile with my wife today, once in the morning and once in the evening.  More progress.

Here is one for the 'corporate funny files'. Some of you may remember my story about seeing my name on a new org. chart in a meeting a few weeks back, and that my boss knew nothing about the move.   Last Friday was payday.  I did not get my pay stub, 'cause the morning was filled up with meetings and my boss was on vacation in the afternoon.  Not unusual.  Today, I came home to find a letter from the company.  Open the letter to find that it is my pay stub - mailed from corporate!  Apparrently, my transfer to corporate (same job, same location, new boss) took effect on Aug.1.
Having my pay stub mailed is an interesting way to find out about the transfer!  Anyhow, I'm trying to determine how much fun I might have making people squirm when I ask for my pay stub, which they probably won't find, 'cause it was never here in the plant.

Scored a MoPac 200 series Alco shell on e-bay tonight.  I was wondering what road to paint my all powered A-B-A 200 series Alco project.  Now I know.  Still need a beater B unit or a B unit shell.

All for now.

Fife - We're workin' on it! Big Smile

NOPE.  Was going to the lake tomorrow PM.  Now an important regional transportation meeting has commuter rail VS light rail.  King Charles [Raleigh's Mayor] wants light rail.  Rest of us Mayors want commuter rail.  Have to stay in town until Wed night or Thurs morning.  Have to be there to lead the fight.  Have to come back Thursday night as early Dr's apt Friday.  Wifey wanted to swap [mine was actually tomorrow right after lunch].  SPOILED wifey.

Fired up MTH GP30 in original NS.  No problem.  Still can't get that MTH Dash 9 to fire up.  Going to have to follow Barry B's instruction and see if it will.

Coke Zero time [no popcorn as about to pop from big meal, PLOP PLOP FIZ FIZ, Oh what a relief it is].

Good night.

Good evening all,

I hope everyone is doing well.  Just finished doing some research on smaller sized O scale buildings.  I searched some websited and past posts here, and have decided due to the small size of my layout, OGR buildings look like a good idea.  I think they have some neat commercial buildings; however, no houses.  I may consider contacting Elfin to see if there 6x3 fronts might be a better idea.  I'll also have to weigh the cost.  The bottom line: As I look at my limited space, I don't believe pre-made structures from MTH, Lionel, Plasticville, etc. will allow me to have much of a town/residential area.

I emailed someone who previously posted about the 952B as recommended.  I hope I get a response.

I mowed the grass tonight and I am ready for some banilla.

Good night,

Joe

Quick stop over as been a long day and a early morning ahead of me.  Won't be able to make fall York as we have several trips planned around the same time.

Last night's church service was rather different.  Praise team did a great job of worship songs and then as the pastor started his message, the lights went out.  They came on and went off several times as we had some big storms come through.  We ended up just having a big prayer hour and when all was said and done, it was great!  Sometimes, we need to have moments when all distractions are put aside and we can focus on God.

Had a great discussion about families today.  In this day of so many electronics, games, ipods, computers, etc., it is great to have a hobby where we can just enjoy the simple pleasure of our trains to take us to destinations of our own imagination.  The best part is that we can share these moments with our kids and engage in conversations that build lasting bonds.  I have distinct memories of my Dad and I playing with the trains and so many lessons learned.

God Bless,
Dennis

Hello all,

Busy day at work so far and it should continue that way this afternoon.  The rain has cooled this place down to a tolerable mid-90s.  Just came home for a quick bite to eat.

Doug - The 952B controller I have has two terminals on one side that read AC from transformer and two terminals on the other side that read lockon 1 and lockon 2.  The transformer side terminals are not individually marked.  The whistle works fine when I hook up the newer transformer that came with the set so I don't think the lube will help.

Navyjack - Vance AFB is a pilot training base.  We only have training aircraft.

That's it for now,

Joe

Aloha all from a sunny, beautiful Chicago where it is only 63 degrees. Nice and cool. Spent an interesting evening cleaning maggots out of the garage - they're loving the soiled garbage cans. Have to wash 'em out. Glad to see you making progress, Brutus. Glad also to see Mrs 8n on the mend. I once drove a few hours just to go to a Chik-Fil-A. Ridiculous  Wink

Highlight of the weekend: running the trains for the first time in almost 2 months - one of the things I love about this hobby was their starting right up.

Sure would like to visit York someday.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Clearing and 75 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  "Buffer" shift this week.

jefelectric - Hope you can make it.

88 - You already have enuff trains.  What you need are "little helpers"...Wink  YORK ain't goin' anywhere.

Michaels has its Halloween LEMAX display up.  Their Spooky Town stuff is a bit over the top, but cool.  What I like is they have expanded some of their Autumn line.  Their is a neat scene with a father and son burning leaves.  Might look good in the foreground of a layout, as LEMAX people tend to be a little big.  Not enough trees again, so off to the floral aisle.

Joe,

I don't have the written instructions, disappeared, but the power lead from the transformer should go the the left hand terminal (AC in) on the whistle controller and the right hand terminal goes to the center rail connection on the track lock-on. K-Line 952 whistle/horn controller.

Have you tried a touch of lube on the whistle motor ?

The little town we lived in up in the Colorado mountains pretty much shut down during the winter, you could almost take a nap stretched out on main street and not be disturbed unless it started snowing then you had to watch for the snow plows.

Good evening all,

Doug - Sounds like someone had quite the craving for a bucket of chicken.  We don't mind driving a little while for some good food.  When we lived in Germany, the village we lived in was a rural farming village.  We had to drive about 30 minutes one way to get to a decent restaurant; however, we did have a fantastic bakery around the corner.  I loved walking down there in the morning for some fresh pastries.

S.J. - You are 100% correct about the root beer float. My wife actually bought some Braum's banilla and some A&W root beer yesterday; I already had two floats today.

I tried to wire up a K-Line 952B whistle controller today to activate the whistle in a steam tender.  (The 1044 was not getting it done on its own).  I don't have the instructions for the controller so I gave it the college try, but no matter which way I hooked it up to the transformer (1044) and track, I could not get the whistle to sound.  The closest I got was when I could hear the whistle motor churn, but it did not sound.  Does anybody have the instructions for this controller?

Good night,

Joe

Hello from Saint Louis, where the temp is dropping as the sun has gone down.  It was pretty darn hot out today, though.

Vents are basically done except I needed to pick up some straps to tighten down the flex tubing.  I'm not too impressed by the flex tubing as far as airflow.  I might replace that with straight pipe.  For now, one vent is capped off, but I'll finish that tomorrow or the next day.  Also picked up the rest of the shelves for my wife's project.  Nice Mexican dinner tonight with the family and now watching Bones and chatting with RT about trains and stuff.

Scope is on and I can see a few beacons coming on, so we'll be ready to get going in a bit!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evenin' Y'all.

Been doing just some lurking of late. Had family visiting for several weeks so between the late nites and the extra time at the museum I have been one pooped puppy. Spent the day ouside trying to play catch-up on "honey-do's", got most of them finished.

Company is all gone back home and no museum on friday, although will be there on tuesday, so grampa is thinking of checking the "Surfliner" schedules for friday. If schedule permits maybe grampa & grandma take the munchkin up the coast for lunch and back.

Joe, With regards to your "roadtrip", you really don't want to know how far the other half and I drove for a bucket of KFC one winter. Whistling Ever heard the term "cabin fever" ?  Big Smile

If you are a halloween fan check out Big Lots, they have quite a few little spooky goodies that have battery powered multi-colored LED's in them.

Gotta get back to finishing up the sauce for dinner, be back later. Chef

Fifey, don't think I can make the gathering.  Wanted too but have an "obligation" that came up.  Thinking seriously of making fall York.  How many of this gang are going to York this fall?  Got my "forms" in the mail this week.

Don't really need or want anything, just go to meet the guys and chat mostly.

Actually the same here.  Going mostly to see the gang.  Will evaluate.  Wifey is screaming as it is State Fair time and she always works the USDA part of the fair.  She has fun and then gets to take off numerous days without signing leave.  She says somone has to look after the "kids".  Also estate things to do and great fishing at Kerr Lake during October.

Later.

PS:  Did want to see the guy who has the remote controled lift gate.  Want to order one for my layout.  Lost his contact info.
