Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.  Had a brief thunderstorm roll thru which knocked power out for a while.  My dad and I went to the Indiana Live Steamers track near Camp Atterbury for a public running.  They have a nice setup there with a very long and scenic ride.  After riding the trains, we visited a small outdoor collection of WWII weaponry.  I washed and waxed the PT Cruiser tonight.  Vitor Meira had a horrible qualifying session and will start dead last tomorrow at Toronto.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hot in Saint Louis today - I think the heat index was 105 or 110?  Worked 5 OT this morning, then picked up some drywall at Home Depot and got my son and nephew to help me carry it to the basement.  That should be enough to finish the bathroom except where I need to do some plumbing behind the shower stall.  Boys will help me on the basement tomorrow - organizing all the supplies that are left over and the tools that got piled up while we moved stuff to the garage.  Progress is being made Thumbs Up

Bob - prayers for you my friend.

Greg - congrats on the new job!  Sounds pretty great to me Thumbs Up

Ray - sounds like a fun ride, hope you don't get sick!

Pat - RT might know the scale?  He has some Lionel Nascar stuff?

Chief, hope you got a good steak dinner, one hot dog is not enough for a day!

Harold - I have one MTH engine and it runs fine, but others have not been as lucky with the older PS1 versions.

Doug - are your kids Shark Boy and Lava Girl?  Ben is Spidey, right?  Sounds like a fabulous vacation Thumbs Up

John, too bad SJ didn't enter his Banilla in your festival, did they have a contest for ice cream too?  RT won a house decoration prize a couple weeks ago Smile

Greg - tomatoes are hanging in there, but not doing very well as far as I'm concerned.  I think they should be a lot bigger by now.

Tardis will be ready shortly, I can hear some pings from the beacons coming on - Banilla: Don't Accept Any Substitutes!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore, 82, Clear, 58% humidity.

It was a hot one at the Ice Cream Festival today. My wife's store took second place for local (NJ Shops). I went to the Wooden/Classic Boat Show which was a couple of blocks away. Spotted a guy that I worked with carrying a lighthouse figure with a solar light mounted on it. I snuck up to him, tapped him on the shoulder and in a deep voice I said, "Hey, did you pay for that!" With a scared voice as he was turning around he said, "My wife paid for it." When he saw me he started laughing and said that he owed me one. His wife was hysterical.

Navy Jack, it was not as hot as your temps, but it drained us all. My wife is sound asleep.

S.J., You are right. Everything taste good when you use Banilla. I am eating some now.

Thoughts and prayers to all in need.

Ray, we fished off Hilton Head Island near the shipping lane into Savannah

Doug, that explains the shark story.  I'm behind on the coffee pot.  I thought you were still in Illinois.  Went to the ocean yesterday on the Southern California coast and went out on a fishing pier at Oceanside, Calif.  I got that out of my system in a hurry.  It looked hot and dirty.  No one was catching anything to speak of except some small smelt and one sting ray.  Only respectable looking fish was probably a surf perch that looked like about a pound or more swimming in a bucket.  I think I'd rather fish in the surf than off one of those piers.  It would be cleaner and cooler at least.

Aloha and good evening. Ray, we fished off Hilton Head Island near the shipping lane into Savannah. Not too deep. Lotsa sharks. Biggest one caught was 39 inches. None of them was happy when caught. All thrown back. I was skunked but had fun. I used live bait - pogies they call them I guess. Small, squirmy.  I also just used cut up fish chunks. We're fortunate with the weathe here. Hot, little rain so far (just a few thunderstorms). Bob, condolences on the loss of your priest friend. Another week of beach time.

Hi Folks,

I know it has been a long time since I posted but with the frequent news regarding the closing of another local hobby shop I thought the following announcement would be a welcome change.

Aaron's City Trains (formerly Glen's Trains) in Akron, Ohio will open for business starting Saturday July 24th, 2010. Hours of operation will be Wednesday-Friday 11am-7pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, and Sunday 12pm-5pm.

Stop in and meet Aaron, the new owner, who is very excited about re-opening an Ohio landmark.

For any former Glen's customers, I am certain you will be surprised and pleased with the store's appearance.

Home again.  Starving.  Ate one hot dog today.  Going to Texas Steak House for Pam's oldest nephew's b'day.  Thundered and lightning but only got 1/10 inch of rain.  Big line of T'storms on the way.  Looks like the VA state line where lake house is, is getting a big "red glob" moving over it.  If they get rain, will be the first in quite a while.  Came home to do two ribbon cuttings and a meeting.  Got long phone call from school board member.  Then had to set up Pam's side of the new computer so she could print.  Windows 7 and etc is different from the old computer.  First time I have had time to get on internet.  Ready to go to eat so got to go.  Later.

got a little confused, Ray did you get the Trestle Set? or a Bridge

Don, I got the graduated trestle set, not the bridge.  Ross sounds like good track.  Glad to know it mates with Gargraves.

Doug Murphy, Do they have sharks in Lake Michigan?  Where were you fishing?

Took my grandson for a train ride yesterday.  My #2 Son and I took the grandson on a Metrolink ride between West Corona, California and Oceanside, California.  It was about one and a half hours each way.  Interesting route over parts of the old Santa Fe East West Mainline and parts of the former Santa Fe coast line.  Had lunch at Oceanside and walked out on long pier there.  Thousands of sun bathers at the beach yesterday.  We also took a ride on a new light rail train called the "Sprinter" that runs between Oceanside and Escondido, California.  It was about an hour each way.  The light rail car was diesel powered and was a two unit affair.  Very comfortable and air conditioned.  On return trip two women sat across from us and one was hacking and coughing so bad I thought she would split atoms.  Said she had asthma but it sounded more like bronchitis.  If she was headed anywhere but a hospital, then she was on the wrong train.  I hope we don't all get whooping cough.  I was really glad to get back to Oceanside and get back on the Metrolink train. We had a nice ride home on that.  Incidentally, on the light rail car, I could see out the windshield from behind the operators room.  I was calling all the signals to my son.  Felt like being an engineer again.  Our conductor was a friendly guy who liked to talk a lot.  He was constantly telling Amtrak passengers at station stops to get off his train if they were going to Los Angeles.  He said this train goes to the inland empire.  If you are going to L.A. you're on the wrong train.  Only thing that surprised me was that I got a better fare as a senior than did my grandson as a youth on the light rail car.  Anyway, we had a lot of fun and escaped the heat for a while.  Next week, we will take grandson to Ringling Brothers Circus.  Trying to make his summer vacation a little more fun.

Spending the day inside watching NASCAR truck race, postponed from last night. Speaking of NASCAR, I see where Lionel is going to take over the production of replica die-cast NASCAR race cars. Anyone know what scale?

Lawson Farms - You are too kindSign - Dots

SPMan - ROSS is similar to Gargraves.  ROSS has wooden ties, which readily accepts spikes, small screws, etc for securing track to superstructure.  If your new bridge has open frame bottom, just makes for a better looking model.  I think the rigid ballasted track suspended by pilons looks "suspect" at times. My 2 cents

"Suspect" indeed! I'd say it looks darn near phony but what the heck, we're talking toy trains here so they say.  I'd say the track with built in roadbed looks a little less phony than lets say tubular track hanging in space.  The fake roadbed would probably give the track a little more support between pylons.  I probably won't use this trestle set on my permanent layout, just on the floor at Christmas or something like that.

Good Morning

Going to 90s.

Of course sct. storms are expected for the afternoon.

John I love homemade banilla,it's so good and brain freeze cold. We have seen 8 deaths this year and only 1 older than us, so I enjoy each day I have even though not all of them are good. Breakfast, eggs, I left the yolk, bacon, I left the fat, hash browns and one toast.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a humid, but sunny 72 degrees. Going up to 86 today with a chance of thundershowers.

Today is an easy day. A few chores to do and then to relax. Nascar race today and ballgame. Maybe, I'll run trains later. Not much else new here.

Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Good Morning all!  Bob, hope you have  a safe trip and also hope things get figured out soon.

Heading in for yet another case.  It has been a rough week.  Monday won't get here soon enough, but I do hope that I can make Sunday services.

Today, after the case is done, I plan on calling one of the orderlies who is also a certified train conductor.  Close by there is a old wooden SCL caboose and marked trestle.  Going to bring camera and snap some photos.  I know the caboose is about gone, but will see what we can see.  Nothing else planned, so will try to check in later.
God Bless,
Dennis

 Hello all

Been another very interesting week. The good news is we finally hired a mechanic. I went to the funeral for the priest tonight. Caught up w/ some old friends. They say funerals are for the living.

I was released from the hospital after about 3 days this afternoon. I am battling, but have a plan. Will be going up to Phoenix area to spend the weekend w/ a friend and then back Monday.

More later and thanks for being there and being who you are.

Tardis is running early boys, have to get to bed early and get up early tomorrow.  Had a great stromboli sandwich and a cold Coke Zero and thought of Laz and Chief as I "et" them Smile  Good!

Somehow I screwed up some music on my media player and my mp3 player, still trying to get it straightened out.

Working OT tomorrow for 5 hours then get all these kids to work on the basement with me organizing all the building supplies and tools.  I'll treat them to icecream and a videogame or book or something.

TTFN!

Mornin' Fellas.

The BWI/DC area was rockin' and rollin' this morning to the tune of a 3.6 Earthquake!

Felt and sounded like a Chinook Helicopter coming in for a landing.

We didn't feel the quake here in VA. But then, we have a law against such things. Could be a sign for the D.C. politicians (and maybe fifedog) to repent and change there ways.Whistling

I got a little confused, Ray did you get the Trestle Set? or a Bridge?

I have the MTH bridge (2 track) which was intended for Railtrax as well.  I use this bridge as a lift bridge for the layout, I did modify it somewhat.  I reinforced the back with a piece of sheet metal, and have Gargraves track secured to the bridge, looks good.  I use the Ross curved sections on the layout as well.  What I have found is; Gargraves and Ross track mate together perfectly.  Both have wood ties and are easily secured.  (I use #4 black anodized 1" or 3/4" wood screws in most places.  #4 machine screws and nuts on the bridge.)  The primary differences I find the Ross ties are "black" where the Gargraves are "brown".  (I colored mine black with a Marks A Lot.)  Also the Ross curved sections have a plastic runner, on the bottom of the ties,  that helps keep the radius and ties in proper position.

Positioning of the track on the bridge was a little critical to ensure that all the engines would clear the "boardwalk" pieces on the bridge, and allow adequate seperation between the tracks.

HOT here today 105+, 30 degree change in 72 hours!  Going to be hot this weekend!

Take care!

Recommendation to all you First time Earthquake survivors, check gas meters to make sure no leaks.
