Aloha. Sunny and 81 already - might hit 90. Good. Can't get hot enough for me. It's been a long winter. Wink  Nice chat last night. Sir J, thank your fan for sharing. Our hedges look wild: your bride would surely disapprove, Jack. A few years ago, I cut back the ones at the back of the house too much. Thank goodness the bride doesn't look at them every day but my neighbors do. LOL. They're half dead-looking. Brutus, I've had 'voles' which are chipmunk-like. I've use the mothballs down the hole trick and also filled their entrances with rocks. That seemed to work...They're probably laughing at me.

John, I still can't get over the speed of those steamers!  It's one thing to read this run or that averaged 75 mph, it's another to watch it. Zoooom!

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Misty & 64 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Gonna do a half night at work, then head to littlest princess choir performance.  She's really got a set of pipes, and I like to tell her that the other kids are her back-up singers.  Wifey scolds me on that one...

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Watched "Lost".  That is 2.5 hours that I will never get back.  Sitting at the track in the rain would have been enjoyable.  Totally worthless ending.  The entire weekend was "lost" as well.  Arms sore from yard work. Other grandson will be up today and over night.  Glad wife agrees to all this without consulting me.  She will also be complaining about air conditioning not being on either.  Makes me glad to be at work to get some peace and quiet.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  TBIL but I will be in no condition to drive as I will consume an entire case of Old Mils by myself.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

British Railways were built ariound and through closely spaced towns and cities, calling for swift accelleration and high speeds. 60-100mph track speeds were the rule. Milwaukees Hiawatha was the worlds first train to run at 100mph start to stop with 2 intermediate stops and steam hauled to boot.

Closed all shift due to high winds. Had gusts up to the 50's here. Went up to the LBT earlier where it is a bit more blustery to replace some jigsaw blades I borrowed. They mentioned that the gap between the moving and non-moving portion of their building (~40 - 50 ft. up) was changing by a half inch during big gusts. That  building is 170 ft tall. Impressive!! (and a little nerve wracking).

Don - thanks for the weather report. Guess Chris should think about getting road hazard:)

Brutus - love to hear the good news!

Spent some more time on the battery eliminator. Interestingly enough is uses a variable transformer like a model train. All the hardware is finally installed. Should be able to start wiring tomorrow. This will be about the closest I've ever been to assembling a Heathkit from new. The unbuilt kits now are about as pricey as unopened post-war train sets.

Jack - I've gone through 3 bottles of "poison peanuts" trying to get rid of moles this year Banged Head

Don, you are right - she has really been doing really well now.  Her hair is starting to come back too, but for now I still have more!

It was in the 90's here and felt like the low 100's at least - very humid.  I dug a hole and put in a post/bracket for a hose on the side of the house with a bag of cement.  Then I got my pruners and a small bow saw and trimmed back the trees at the bottom of the hill and disposed of that mess.  I was only at it a couple hours, but I was worn out due to the weather.  I did find a few active runs and put down more poison.  Then I cleared up some mess from under the deck.  After a shower and cooling off for a while inside, I started the grill and cooked some porksteaks, burgers and hotdogs.  No Yuengs, but we did have some Miller Lites, so all was not lost Smile  Oh - this morning I read the newer issue of Trains, too.

Tardis is ready and some banilla would be great after all that bbq!  Let's go guys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Overall, we are just not getting enough rain.  Lawn needs some water, but I am holding out.  Raised the blade on the mower to the second highest setting and hope that helps retain/extend what precipitation we do get.

Lawn mowing and trimming the evergreens in the front of the house were the projects for the day.  All fingers and toes intact.  This was the first time the wife liked the finished product on the bushes, for reasons unknown to me.  I've been trimming these for over 20 years and this was the first time she didn't have one of those "Yes, but....." comments about the outcome.  I had to crawl around and under some of the targets of my butchery......and some ticks decided to go for a ride.

The original plantings were all.......you guessed it.......placed too close together by the landscaper on the front end, before we bought the house.  So twice a year serious pruning is in order.  One of the evergreens seems to have been the favorite target of someone's dog because I have a 2' x 2' browned out area on the bottom of one of the suckers.  Wife thinks I should yank it out and get another, what a shock.  I have some annuals I plan use to camouflage this spot.

Chipmunks are having a field day tunneling under the front porch.  How do you get rid of those suckers?

Later, gang.

Good Evening, Guys,

Thanks for catching that, Fife....The health issue is the same thing I had a few years ago, nothing they can do for it.  The doc re ran the test, so we'll see.

Wednesday night, I'm taking a load of my trains to my sisters house in NJ.  Solo.  Should be back Monday night.  Too bad I can't stay for the Hightstown Memorial Day parade, but I have to be here in FL for Tuesday.  Suffice to say, things maybe a changin' here.  At least I'll see my roadrunner....

Still admiring my Marx 666, I'm so pleased with it.  Was out with my daughter and saw Iron Man II.  Make SURE you stay til after the credits...I'm so stoked after that!  WOW!

Been in the high 80's very humid here last 2 days..took the Harley for gas, got 41 MPG, so better than a Hybrid and tons more FUN!!

OK off to bed, 0600 is too early..

BTW 88, if I had more time, I'd stop in for the day and give you a hand.

See ya tomorrow,

Rich

Evening ALL !

Spent another weekend working, it certainly was a "Marketing Event", definitely not sales.  (Not by intention.)  Oh well the advantages of having your own business.

Brutus  Sure enjoy hearing your reports!  I think of where Char was a year ago, and its seems like such a miracle she is doing so well.  This year certainly seems better than last !  Not all that is needed is getting Brent back on the mend.

Jack, I echo Pat's comment regarding your post.  I will be more than happy to relinquish a portion of my space.  I sure everyone will benefit.

Chris had a terrible weekend.  (Not really but he thinks so.)  He's been working on finals, and putting in a lot of hours studying.  So Friday night he and some of his "buds" go and "shoot some stick", he does good wins 4 out of 6.  But then has a flat tire on the way home.  Saturday, he replaces the tire and wasn't happy about the cost.  Saturday night he and his new "lady friend" had tickets to go see a play at the Community Playhouse,  So cool, they go, then some other friends wanted to "hang" for awhile afterwards.  They did so, and then taking the lady home and walking her up to the door, noticed a "hissing".  Another flat, different tire.  He changed the tire, then discovered she had left some stuff at our house, so they came back here, ended up getting a different car, and he took her home again.  Ended up being late night, and he was frustrated over the tires.  Oh, to have the problems of the young.

Speaking of problems,

BOB, you better tighten down the teathers on the scope.  Got some wind coming you way soon!  We had 30-40 mph winds going on today.  No damage just a mess all around.  I believe there was some snow up in the Grapevine as well.  (I-5 north of LA).

Enjoyed my little talk with SJ, was concerned was keeping him up to late, due to the time change.

Just got called by SWHMBO, for dinner and movie.

Hope all have a great day!

Later

I graduated from college on Sunday in 1968 and started teaching in in NW Iowa on Monday, Rehearsed the band on Tuesday & Thursday and then took 'em to Mason City (home of Meredith Wilson and Music Man the musical) for the parade competition.  My options were to go to NW Iowa or to south Viet Nam during the TET offensive ........ because of an ulcer I went to NW Iowa and never looked back for lots of of reasons and no regrets, not much good came out of the 60's ..........

Draft dodger!!! Wink  Got sworn in in April 68 after a letter saying, "Greetings."  Glad you did not have to go.

Spanky, I may have to get your "glass" from your advatar.  Pam's great neice [4] is here for the night. Shock  Spolied ROTTEN and does not know the word "NO".

Back from Mom's.  Lady was helping her go to the bathroom.  Mom tired to go into the utility room.  Then she got mad becasue the lady and I were reading a written agreement between her and myself.  Mom insisted on reading it.  Told her politely it was between Yvonne and myself.  She got ugly and I had tell her "NO!".  She soon got over it.

Had 3/4 inch of rain today.  Sprinkling now.  Bad storms all around.  5.5 inches at were we have a farm in Wilson Co.  Went by and farmers were out shoveling ditches to let the water out of their tobacco fields.  Streams were mudding and over flowing.  Did go by the Rocky Mount CSX big switching yard.  CSX freight can by with over 100 covered hoppers going south toward FL.  Was totally surprised at the number of covered hoppers that still had Seaboard System and Family Lines SCL/LN on them.  They had just painted over the numbers and stinceled in CSX and a car number.

Later.

On my list of things to do, Jon!  Just finished a video of British steam engine-run express trains. Boy, I am running James much too slow. These trains just flew along the track. Back to the basement!

That is not fun, Mitch. Congratulations though. Hope those compression valves worked.

Buckeye, was that guy in the top hat at the end of the video you?  Nice shots.  I have a bid on one of those steamers for auction tonight.  If I win, it will be time to build outdoors!

Brent/Pat, we are done with adoption/having kids.  But, I highly recommend it for those who have the ability.  One of the pastors who gave morning devotion to the folks on movie set one morning this past week had adopted his third child, who was 11 years old.  He had to ease the kid into modern life.  Such things as slowly increasing the addition of hot water into the mix as he had never had either running indoor plumbing or hot water.  His first shower after getting used to it took 45 minutes!  The kid also would tell him each morning and night that "I make good son for you".  Breaks your heart.

Rich, will lift you up in prayer...hope things are better soon.

Chief, good luck with getting that engine up and running.

Have a real special thing happening tomorrow for morning devotion on set.  I will give more details afterwards.  We had a great concert at church tonight.  I was on camera, but still got to enjoy it.

God Bless

If any of you ever get to Mason City be sure and stop at the Music Man Museum.  Doug .. a WONDERFUL trip for you and the boss would be a stop in CEDAR FALLS to visit your friends and Caboose Stop Hobbies and then on to MC to ride the TROLLELY between Clear Lake and Mason City.  What a country Thumbs Up

Evenin' Fellas

Pat - I forgot to mention that the majority of the adoption issues I mentioned earlier were related to infant and todler adoptions. We really want young children right now. Big Smile If everything goes well we will most likely adopt a third in a couple years in the 5 - 10 yo range and that willbe an American child.

Stopped by the LTS yesterday for some comradarie/abuse. The repair guys have been working on my K-Line Allegheny and it appears there is an electrical problem because as soon as they turned on the smoke the electronics heated up and caught fire! Looks like ERR upgrade is in store for her soon. Also took my MTH WM GP-7s in. They are PS1 and haven't been run in 2+ years... fired right up! Love those two... getting ERR upgrades soon too. Got to thinking... need ERR upgrades for the MTH conventional C&O Yellowbelly... gonna be expensive upgrading these engines!

Mich - Of all the projects around the place I hate pluming the most, especially under the sink. Started putting a rolled up sleeping bag   down by the entrance to save my back. The key to working under sinks is to have the right tools!

I just finished up with my project for the day.  I tore out and replaced our bath valve.  Toni has been fighting with it to give the kids a bath.  It was a 38 year old Central Brass model with the long stems.  I repaired it about 5 years ago and that lasted until now.

Pain in the butt working inside such a tight space under the sink.  Who was the genius that put the access panel there ?

4 hours and about $100 later I have a nice Moen 3 handle model installed.

Check that one off my summer to do list ... Big Smile

There are a few on this thread with large amounts of posts, but nothing compares with the Bradley Smoker Forum I just left ( except Chief and BK). All the posters I looked at averaged over 1,000 posts per year, and one fellow has 7,100 post in the last 9 months!Wow!!

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Wild day at the track.   A cup half full for both Sarah and AJ as both Sarah and Vitor made the show (Sarah is the fastest woman), but the second team cars for both did not make the show (likewise Milka Duno and Paul Tracy).  I had english muffins and bacon on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  TBIL any time.  I hope everyone has a good day.

It is 68, and raining on and off at the Jersey Shore. Today my son and I spent the day working the coin toss for our Vol. Fire Company. We had a few showers but it was not that bad. Now it is raining steady. Now I will spend some time cleaning and lubing a few new purchases.

Chief, Thanks for the welcome back.   Rich, Hang in there and my prayers and thoughts are with you.
