Hi All,

Started to cut off a large limb about 20' up on a ladder. Stopped after a dozen strokes of the saw. Didn't not want to break something in more than five places.

Reading all  the  York feedback is great. Just a little jealous. Maybe next year. Wouldn't have gone this time due to a grandaughter's first Communion tomorrow.

Prayers for all those in need. Especially for those "IN HARMS WAY".

Mixed bag of sun, rain, and thunderstorms here today.

Rained enough that races at The Historic Half Mile were canceled.  Would not be surprised to find out that Warrensburg cancels tomorrow night, too.

Just got off the phone with mom.  Coordinating travel plans.  She is delighted with her knew knee, and is still going to P.T. for ACL problems with her shoulder.  Chuck - her inturpertation of P.T. is 'personal torture'.  Thought you might get a kick out of that.

Ran trains for a bit last night.  Made up a work train with my recently aquired #6660 boom car, a hopper, a gondola and a searchlight car.  Got to pick up the winter's collection of floatsam, and jetsam on the right of way, you know.

For what it is worth, the searchlight car is a recent issue CN piece.  It does not play well with the coupler centering spring on my #600 switcher.  I've noticed this with a couple of other newer pieces of rolling stock, too.

All for now.

Well I'm tired, but it was a lot of fun. Met the pot boys, a great bunch of guys, we had our picture took together. Should be the CTT cover. Banilla for all I'm buyin.

Oh a bonus, meet Jill from MTH and we had a short but pleasant chat. Sat at the next table from them thursday morning at breakfast, restaurant had grits but I scratched it off all the menus. Must of been a print error....S.J.

wes is your shay like the one in the new lionel catalog?  neat....neat....neat....and i thought i wanted a camelback......wanted a green gg-1.

YES .... exact except the Westside has a better paint scheme in my opinion and I don't think lionel put the REAL SHAY SOUNDS in the newer ones .

Plus the new ones are made in CHINA .... if that matters ... it does to some . I've been told the newer chinese engines and cars don't have the same high quality ... I don't know ... just what has been posted on some forums .   Cheaper lower cost components . As all know all the new legacy engines are chinese . That's why the older TMCC engines are holding their value so well .... the U.S.A made ones .

And they're all metal " the shays " ... not plastic .....  which is what I love over the diesels which are plastic bodies .

i told the wife about trying grits but she was insulted said she likes it but it is real high in calories......women.  wes is your shay like the one in the new lionel catalog?  neat....neat....neat....and i thought i wanted a camelback......wanted a green gg-1.  a fellow has a green k-line(i have a tuscan one) without railsounds and i am tempted to buy it rather than look for a scale one.  he wants 110.  i will offer (if i buy it) 110 including shipping. navyjack

Afternoon all.  Been a busy day.  Did 8 AM walk with elementary kids and some Moms.  Ran one errand and got cell phone call.

Mom had fallen and been transported.  Nothing broken.  She has quit eating much of anything and has not been doing good all week.  She will now have to have 24/7 care.  Will not be able to get around much, can't hear and mind is about gone.  Time for her to go.  I know she is misserable.  Do not want to see her have to go to rest home.  She has said over and over, I want to die at home.  She is being transported home.

Got mowing done and widow lady's done too.  Sprayed roses, garden, grape vines and fruit trees.  Hope this will make it rain.  Suppose to rain tonight and off and on thru Sunday and maybe into Monday AM.  Fertilized lawn [front and back] along with Pam's flowers and shrubs [usually makes it not rain].

Pam is coming home soon and we are hitting the road to Mom's.

BTW: did get engine entered into Legacy and ran it last night after posting.  Could not resist.  Will not have time to photo it.

Later.

NAVYJACK .... you asked me to tell you about my shays ... my shays are 2  Lionel Westside Lumber Shays .... they are the coolest darn engines I know . Lionel recorded actual shay sounds and put them in the railsounds ... not synthetic electronic sounds . The train whistle is a one of it's kind ... believe me ... sounds just like the real one .  The shafts and drive mechanism is way cool to watch and goes from the front of the engine the whole way back the tender ... in my opinion they are the wildest = unique engine produced . Yea ... I LOVE THEM .... a person can have 50 engines in his collection .... but until he has a shay .... Wow!!  .  I got lucky and Trainz had both of them ... MINT ... serviced - tuned- peaked and guaranteed . I got them both for a little over 1/4 of the retail price ... one even lower .

Here's a couple vid links ==  and yes ... the lionel westsides have all the moving parts the real ones do !!  These are short so watch them and you'll see why I prize them so much ..

Aloha all. Cooler and grayer today. Looks like rain (needed) for the next few days.  Had a nice dinner with the bride. She really appreciated the anniversary good wishes.  Great to hear about York. Prayers for Dennis' swift recovery. Mom coming in for a visit. Have to pick her up this afternoon so hope to get some work done.

Good Morning!

Friday and the weekend is finally here!

Up to 85 today and sprinkles on Sunday Banged Head.

May do a charity ride tomorrow but we’ll see...Saturday weather is forecast good as well.

Ran trains last night, no pile ups...Jordan Spreader looks cool!

Made fish sticks & fries for the kids, I had Italian sausage sandwiches.  Then cleaned up the kitchen and the train room.

Won some Atlas O track from Go Motor Bids; 9 sections for $19 shipped.  Missed out on the Atlas flex track, but that went much higher than I planned.

Angel – for our traveling forumites and Dennis!!  Get better soon! and all that are ailing.

TGIF guys!

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana.  Sorry, Chief, I missed your "Lost" comment, but glad to read you were having a conversation on a great topic.  Dennis, hope you get over the "sniffles" soon.   I recommend a good batch of "the saucy wench's" zucchini bread as treatment.  May not have any medicinal purpose, but it tastes great and will make you feel better for a little bit.  We will have the Tardis make a special drop tonight.  Good luck to all the Yorkies with their shopping.  Submmbob, I feel your pain on the Amtrak set.  I mowed the yard with the old JD last night.  Bolt holding one side of handle broke so I had to scrounge up a temporary replacement.  Fixed that and finished the yard.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  TBIL anytime with an extra load of zucchini bread.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

A few more inches of new snow on the ground and more coming down. Been a quiet night. Finally finished reading "We Were Soldiers Once" by General Hal Moore. Wow.
Bob

Bob, That was a great book.  Enjoyed the movie too.  When I was in Columbus, GA, I met Hal Moore.  He lives in Auburn, Alabama which is a short drive away.  Often, he comes to Ft. Benning to speak with the Officer Training grads.  Also, when they were filming the movie, Mel Gibson and Sam Elliot would hang out with the youth and play paint ball.  Some of my friends from Columbus had fought with Hal Moore in that battle and others.....the stories were quite heroic.

Feel horrible.  I will bow out of going to the production office today as I don't want to spread this funk.  Took DayQuil and hope it is a quiet day at work.  Hope everyone has some great stories to share from York.

God Bless,
Dennis

Started the return for the Amtrak work train and took some pictures of the damage. It just gets worse the more you get into it. Was listed a C-7 and in addition to the shipping damage had a previously poorly repaired truck and several other broken and missing parts. Considering the seller has a major add in CTT I was very disappointed. They say they inspect and repair items on their web site, but in this case didn't even clean the dust off. Hopefully there won't be any problems. What is disappointing is that the cars will simply be sold off individually and the loco scrapped and/or used for parts. I know these weren't as rugged or popular as the pre and postwar stuff, but I'd be happy if the trucks on the loco could be replaced even w/ something that is not original. Alas, it is probably better to save up a bit more an buy an unopened set.

Wishing everyone in York a good time and safe travels!

Smilehello guys got the new lionel catalog today and was shocked at the prices.  it is time to switch production back to u.s.a. again and create some jobs.  i bet those guys up in michigan  could make the trains just as good as they are made overseas and at the same time make money for their families.  like the catalog, but cant afford much.  will have to stick with the secondary market.  (love weaver trains)....ray thanks for info about the virginian.  i noticed an sd70 in fanciful virginian colors in the lionel catalog but the price is way over my head.  maybe in a few years....got some die cast cars i won from ebay today.  one was a tr3A that i had as a teen.  pat how can i train the wife to give me grits?  i keep asking but to no avail.  wes, tell me about your shays..navyjack

Doug,

          Happy anniversary,

Charlie,

Post pics of that 736 when/if possible.  I know how good it feels to find a good one at a good price.  I did the same thing 5 years ago.

SJ,

Lots of AF you say?  I am going to have to try to get to York some time.

Hi guys

Great day, lots of toy trains, didn't really see any great deals. Flyer guys would love it here, Never saw this much since the 50s. Went to the Lionel presentation saw some demo engines but no breaking news. We had supper at a rib joint with 14 other guys from our area, that's a good size group for one area not counting those that we don't know that are here too. We will have to zip by home to grab the banilla but we are ready for the flight.

fife we will see you at 1PM at the Kalmbach booth....S.J.

We've had enough rain today and are supposed to get more tomorrow that this weekend's dirt track races are in peril.

Happy anniversary, Doug.

Interested in hearing York reports from youse guys that are there.

Good Afternoon everyone.  Got done early as the meetings tonight are with the 'talent', in other words, the actors...or does it mean that I don't have talent? HMMM.  Anyway, it is a welcome break as I get to relax and hopefully get some rest and recover from this crud I have.

[comment removed]

Just took some NyQuil and planning on hitting the sheets.  Before I go, a very Big HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to Doug and Kelly!

God Bless,
Dennis

Navy Jack, The Virginian was bought out by the Norfolk and Western which in turn was merged with the Southern Railway and became today's Norfolk Southern Railroad.  Incidentally, the real Virginian Fairbanks Morse Diesels were black and yellow but the blue and yellow looks nice on models. They have both been remade since the post war version from Lionel in the correct black and yellow by Lionel, Williams and MTH.

I have a Mike's Train House ACL SW1 swithcher in the purple color.  It is proto 1 and has a bell and horn with some sound effects like freight yard sounds and the sound of the engine when running.  You can probably pick one up on E bay sometime for under $100 if you're lucky.  I forget what I paid for mine but I bought it new.  I also have the Williams E7 ACL AA, MTH E6 A-B-A, MTH F3 A-B-B-A, MTH GP7 powered and dummy and finally the MTH SW1 switcher so you can see I like ACL.  All of the engines are in the purple and silver paint job.
