Bought another Lionel Westside Lumber Shay tonight I did'nt need ... LOL .  I love them since Lionel used actual live Shay recordings for the Railsounds instead of artificial ones . I blame it on the rain ... nothing else to do but ebay . Raining like the devil all day ... but it's just cool and I love the moist air . Wife painted the bathroom ... why that woman paints on rainy days I can't figure out ... Banged Head . On the tardis with SJ = CHARLIE and BRUTUS ... gotta get back to them .

Good Evening,

It has been a great weekend. I never got to work on the tractor or log splitter yesterday. I helped my son work on his truck instead. We had a good time and a lot of laughs as he learned that off roading a 26 year old or any vehicle can lead to "premature wear".

Did you ever notice that when you mention about an old muscle car or any old vehicle the normal reaction is to reminice about them, think about how great they were and you seem to forget about what a pain they were and all of the break downs and maintenance compared to cars of today. In the late 1960's, early 70's I worked in a large garage which was primarily a body shop, but did all forms of mechanical repairs and it had a salvage yard that bought and sold cars. It was the best place for me to work. I bought, repaired, drove and sold many a muscle car. Out of them all, the biggest disappointment was a 1963 Chevy with a dual Quad, 4spd, 409. I had a 1963 Ford Galaxie with a single 4bbl, 4spd, 390 that ran rings around it. Go figure it. Enough on cars.

Doug, the money is good but I hate to see such sorrow in people losing everything. When disaster strikes, I see a lot of our guys skipping lunch and dinner breaks to restore people. We are still under a flood watch until at least Wednesday.

Fifedog & Rtraincollector: If you think that the other sex is bad at Build-A-Bear (I saw what happened with my Wife and a friend of ours with her Granddaughter) beware when they go to Walt Disney World at the Disney Village Toy Store in the Mr Potato Head and Lincoln Log make your own section. My Wife bought for Grand children that we don't have yet.

Roy: Congrats to your son on his goal and I wish them luck.

Prayers to all in need.

Morning all, quick stop over before heading in.  Fife, thanks for the warning.  We had one here but I guess the business was not enough and they left town.  Ole Timer, that is great!  Hope it brings you plenty of fun.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana.  I threw down a small loop of Fastrack and a siding and ran the Alaska Docksider with three old O-27 Alaska tank cars last night.  The short O-27 cars are all shorter than one piece of 10 inch straight and so the sidings can be relatively short and still hold the cars with a margin for getting the engine aligned properly to couple.  I also worked with the LEGOs as well.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Mornin, Ya'll, From Rainy Taxachusetts,

Sorry for yet another absence.  I am behind on the goings on and will worry about that later.

Early this past week the local weather boys commented:  we have had 19.91 inches of rain in March, the third highest (March) month since records have been maintained and the sixth highest month of rain totals ever, at least since records were recorded and maintained, a span of about 130 years.  We had just .5 inches during the week putting us at over 20 inches, nothing to be concerned about except it would delay the decline of the river and stream levels, and the water table, while folks are fighting to recover.

Now this.  We are going to get another 4-6 inches of rain today, tonight, and into tomorrow.....and my house is on the edge of the 6 inch portion of the weather map.

This does not present a problem for me personally since I sit up high enough, plus I don't have a problem with ground water.  The water tables are maxed.  But I have neighbors and friends who have not been so lucky.  This storm may sap them of whatever resolve, determination, and hope they have left.  One couple deposited their entire basement at the curb, uninsured losses.  Got the heating plant, electric, and hot water back.  But now this.  Ugly.

Morning all!

Busy day today. Gonna be nice and sunny.

The new Lionel and MTH Tinplate catalogs look pretty dangerous to my budget.

Have a great day all!

Almost forgot.......Chuck recently talked about cleaning his track.  That inspired me to do the same, so yesterday I got out the isopropyl alcohol and paper towels and got at it.  Wife was so impressed and inspired with my thoroughness and attention to detail that she got out the out the old cotton t-shirts and furniture polish......and handed them to me.  Banged Head

Aloha all from a clearing and cold Chicago. Ran trains last night. Then the 520 stopped and wouldn't go forward again. Wonder what happened. Didn't hear the e-unit cycle either but there's power to the track and nothing derailed. Hmmm.
Happy anniversary, Sir J. And many more. THanks for the guidance on weeding and seeding.
Jack
, wow, that's a lot of water. Funny, the middle boy has been enjoying himself in Boston for the past few days. Didn't mention wet. Too bad you did a good job with cleaning.
Ray, Johnny Gimble is still with us. Hasn't been on the road for a while though. I too miss Chet. I love PHC on the radio. He does find some talented folks. We've had some issues lately with someone going after our neighbor's chickens in broad daylight. There's a lot of brush in her backyard  - she thinks it's a fox. I think it's a coyote.  Too bad we can't do our own critter-cleansing...
Fife, hmmm, guess where the bride is going today - for the sake of the youngest? Build-a-Bear. There's one on Fifth Ave in NYC strategically located right outside GCS. When we were there at Christmas, the youngest marched down the ramp and out the door and right into the store. 'Here it is.' he said. The power of advertising.
Dennis, Chief, Brutus, Pat and Roy, sounds like a nice weekend.
John, that's a good memory-check. For as much as I loved my '73 Dodge Charger - half the time something that fell off needed replacing or the engine needed tinkering. Though that was much of the fun.
NavyJack, if those engines are PS 1, I think you need to replace the batteries with good ones before they are powered again.

Good morning all,

Roy, I am glad you posted again.  Reminded me that I forgot to comment on your soccr stories.  Good goal for your son!  Nothing quite equals that feeling when the ball hits the back of the net.  Also, your comments about the catalogs are spot on.  There is a lot I would like to have, and there are some things to only dream about (the "Brute" passenger cars, or a 700E) for when you win the lottery.

Good morning All

Gloomy this morning but suppose to clear up.

Navy Jack DON'T RUN those mth engines until you have a fully charged battery in them and if the batteries old replace it and charge the new one for at least 12 hours, a perfect example of why not to have an engine that requires a battery.

Well some one told, yes its our 51 anniv. We have no choice as the license does not have an experation date. Believe me I looked but its ok I love her, not sure how she feels though.

Happy B-Day SPANKY

Sir J, condolances to your wife. Whistling

Navy, recharge the battery in each one.  If no charging port, replace them [I probably would any way] or install a BCR.  Proto will crash your "chip" if battery is dead.  Proto 2 is no problem.  The Proto 2 engines will act funny if they are not charged good.  Proto 2 can be charged by leaving them at idle for a long period of time or through a charging port.  Actually Shake and Bake [Don Baker] is more knowledgable on MTH than I am.

Had 2.2 inches of rain from 11 PM until 7 AM.  Pond is rolling over spillway and more coming in.  Rain should be over now.  Warmer the rest of the week.  Off to bar-be-que lunch with County Atty.  Get good results when you feed him bar-be-que.  Whistling

Later.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s.  A rare mid-day race report.  Will Power (have to love the name) makes it two in a row.  Princess is 7th.  Sarah's team is 9th with GR at the wheel.  Vitor leads twice for AJ, but finishes 15th, still top ten in points.

Smilethanks for the info.  i think i will go the bcr route.  than as i understand it you have to charge for 30 seconds by feeding full power in neutral for 30 seconds? i really appreciate the info as i would hate to ruin these locos.  should i replace my one protosound 2 loco with a bcr as well?  should i put one in my lionel gp-7 with railsounds?  sorry about all the questions, but i really do not know.  thanks navyjack

well I can answer one question and that is you can but your Lionel really doesn't need it as in Lionel all it does is cover a dead spot vrs mth proto 1 it is the lifeline of the engine. My Lionel don't have a battery in them not really needed just when I shut down if I kill power it cuts sound quickly vs with battery it would go thru a shut down procedure where the engine actually would power down the sound.

the Proto 2 it is recommend also I believe not sure. but do know from others not as critical as in proto 1

Quick stop over as in the middle of making Chocolate Chip and Pecan cookies for our son's school Grand-Parent's Day celebration.  Was a good day in that I had a production meeting at lunch time, followed by some stops to take photos for the movie locations.  One spot is near the train yard and I caught some good sites if you know what I mean.

After work was done, I came home to find a delivery from Chooch...a RailKing NYC dump car.  I have several different ones, so this adds to the consist.  It is always a good day when you find a train on your doorstep!

Onto family projects.  Both kids have friends of theirs from school coming home for the day tomorrow.  Between movie meetings and work, I will be gone for all of that, so poor bride will have to deal with them and the ensuing mess to clean up.  I will certainly be recruited for that after I get home.  Now, I am not advocating doing a half you-know-what job, but sometimes, if you make it so good, they will insist on letting you do it all the time.Sigh

Y'all have a blessed night,

Dennis
