Morning all. Back from Sunday School. Sunny and warming. Some Churches canceled services due to black ice. Not that much here. More snow east of us to the coast.
Buckeye and Jon, thanks for the NC promotional. Telling how bad you have it up Nawth with ice, snohio, frozen lakes and etc.
John, "pulled pork" is just plain bar-be-que. Everything else is "want-a-be" bar-be-que. Ask Ray [SP] about eastern NC pork bar-be-que.
Going to destroy a beaver dam we found in the pond woods up the creek from the pond. Seems the sneaky critters gave up on the spillway and moved "inland" and damed up the creek that feeds the pond. Flooding the woods around the creek. "No go" busy beavers.
Later.

Yes, but watch all the publicity someone not in the race will be getting on the broadcast.
How can you have black ice on dirt roads? I assume they were afraid that the mules would fall as they pulled the wagons to church this morning.

You are SOO right!
I am watching the pre-race show at this moment. Who are they interviewing? Dale Jr. talking about Danica Patrick. Way to much hype.

Howdy guys - a little snow here and more coming, I think we expect 4 inches by tomorrow again. Waiting for my son to clean up his room, then we are supposed to play some video games together. Too, I need to do the taxes. Wife is doing well, had a good lunch today. TTFN!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
ChiefEagles John, "pulled pork" is just plain bar-be-que. Everything else is "want-a-be" bar-be-que. Ask Ray [SP] about eastern NC pork bar-be-que.
John, I have tried everything that has been called pork bar-b-que and they all pale in comparison to Eastern North Carolina bar-b-que as far as I'm concerned. In other places bar-b-que is a verb but in Eastern North Carolina it is a noun. It's the vinegar and crushed red pepper flakes that make it different. It goes good on a bun with cole slaw or on a plate with fried corn bread or hush puppies. A lot of places that serve it also make Brunswick stew which is another traditional dish down South. I have even tried to make some home made Bar-B-Que but it can't touch the real stuff. Thanks to a friend in high places in North Carolina, I still have a little of the real stuff in my freezer which I will have soon. John, your pulled pork was probably good but it's not like the Carolina stuff.
Chief, thanks for the pictures of the lake house. Looks like quite a bit of room there. What is the large barn like building for next to the carport? I'm reminded to get a carport of my own before summer. My cars have taken a beating in the California sun because I use the garage for a train layout.
Happy Valentine's day to all the ladies,

Hi GUYZ,
Worked on layout today for a bit, still not done with one section but you will be surprised when completed I hope next weekend?
Then went cross country skiing with wife and took dog to run around in snow. Great did a nice scenic 3.5 miles, it sure beats running. Very relaxing and not to bad on the knees. Now for some pitza for supper and a little train time then Olympics before bed time.
Stay frosty,

Good afternoon all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s. What a disaster today for NASCAR!!! All the Danicamania went poof with all the track repair red flags. Did some building with some bricks. Will run trains later. I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast. Snohio predicted for over night. TBIL anytime. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Can't do taxes until my wife downloads her W2s and she isn't feeling up to it right now. Took a hot shower and it wiped her out for a while. Still, she does seem a little stronger today than yesterday.
Played Left4Dead 2 with my son on the x-box, updated the system and downloaded some stuff for my son, but it all ended up on my "avatar", so that didn't turn out too well. I'm not sure why I can't move stuff I buy to his user file? Maybe I can find something online about this.
Spaghetti for dinner with garlic bread - smells great! Tardis will be ready in a couple hours and I'll check beacons then. Might have to use the stealth mode to prevent upset feelings when picking everyone up
Good Evening
No sun, no snow melt. reached 32 for a little awhile today.
Well we went to the TTOS show the train store and a hobby shop. I came home with nothing.
Beacon will be on and banilla is ready...S.J.

Just got desktop back from being reconditioned. Runs faster. Jon E, got Foxfire on it. I also have IE. Seems Foxfire runs faster than IE. HUMM. Will keep testing to see. Later.
Good evening everyone. Had church this morning and I was on camera 1. Great service as usual and Sunday School was very good too. Afterwards, us and two other couples and kids went out for Mexican Food. This afternoon, we had to pay back for having our kids watched yesterday. The other family has 4 kids and my poor wife was stuck as I had to go back to church to cover camera on evening service....she was stuck home with 6 kids between 2-9yrs old.
Chief, the water looks very high...glad your house was not lower/closer. IS the Army Corps of Engineers holding back the water for some reason?
Jon, glad to see you well and OK. Was concerned as had not heard from you for a little while and have seen some heavy snow in your area on the Weather Channel. We had our own bit of snow, but was only a few inches and it was gone Saturday.
Well, I am on call this coming week. Tomorrow morning, we are having breakfast with our friends who had moved up to Chicago (Sugar Grove). This is the guy who used to own the railroad here and sold it to Genesee and Wyoming. They are quite comfortable these days, but still are very ordinary, nice couple to be around.
Have a great week ahead,
God Bless,Dennis

Dear Corps of Engineers,
Just hold back the water a few more weeks.
Hello all
Had a good weekend, Went to the Monroeville Greenberg Show yesterday. I didn't get to spend as much time there as I would have liked. The 1 1/2 hour trip took almost 2 1/2 hours. 50 minutes of the lost time was getting the last couple of miles. Monroeville was a big parking lot for some reason. I didn't get in the door of the show till 3:00 and they close at 4:00. Made one quik pass of the tables. Then the Mrs and I split up to do the buying. Made the last purchase as they announced they were going to "clear the floor".
We got
a Thomas shirt for each of the Grandkids
An HO gauge "James Freight Set" I wasn't in the market for it but the price was to good to pass up. That tells me dealers are trying real hard to sell things.
Three new sealed in the box Plasticville ranch houses. Same story as the James set.
Some Train Books (old issues of CTT) for the grand son to "read".
There were several nice layouts set up. Due to my limited time they only got a glance.
Over all the crowd seemed way off. The few dealers I talked to confirmed that. They said it had been a real slow day. Prices I looked at ranged from very reasonable to very high. I did confirm that I did well on my last couple of ebay purchases
We had a very nice Valentine dinner in Ebensburg on the return trip Speaking of Valentines. Mine is all ready in bed. I'm off to join her.
Brutus, continued prayers.
Six more inches predicted for tomorrow.
Prayers for all who may need them

Evening all
It has been a busy but good weekend. Hard to believe Ash Wednesday is this week! Kids have Monday off from school so we all cat on the couch and watched the Olympics. It was neat to watch the kids watch the games.
Good night and may God bless
Jim
Wow. Haven't checked in since last Wednesday!
Great news Brutus. It is always nice to get the whole family home.
There was a discussion about how NASCAR has changed over the years. Boy, has it. They have legislated out the technology. They are essentially running spec. cars and are marketing the drivers/teams. Gone are the days where a Ford was a Ford, Chevy a Chevy and a Dodge a Dodge - each with its own unique set of advangages/disadvantages.
That is one thing that draws me to F1 racing. The teams all build to the same rule set, but different inturpertations, so not only is there driver's personalities, but the cars also have 'personalities'.
I wonder if a NASCAR series based on Camaro, Mustang, Challanger platforms would work? Set the rules up so they would have to start with production bodies in white, production blocks, production based fuel injection, spec. wheels & tires, etc., etc.
Have a big going on a Lionel GTW tender. So far so good. Also eyeing a drop center dual truck flat car (6418?)that seems like it will go for cheap.
All for now.
Finally got up in time enough to go for a walk. I just had time to make it down to switchback #7, maybe a half mile total. Bright sunny day with a lot of snow on the ground and desert on the valley floor. Nothing quite like Arizona.
Somebody help me dig out the 'scope! This is where the plows push all the snow from the site.
The 2025 in the Mt. Graham Boiler Shop. Cleaned up very well. I had to clean the corrosion off the railings and hit w/ clear coat. The detail on this one is really neat. Thanks to Jim T. I'll have a smoke unit coming for it. NavyJack - I'm pretty sure the piston is activated by the left crosshead hitting the lever. The diagrams in the book made more sense when I had it apart last night.
Hope everyone has a good week!

Buckeye......."toxic grits"? Isn't that redundant?
8N......I had a nice conversation with my son and SIL about this vanilla Nascar stuff. They just don't get it. I think that the reason Nascar has lost it's appeal for me and hence for some is that the cars look the same and receive so little mention during a race. Sure, there were years when certain marques dominated; but the others always seemed to come storming back.
When you were watching a Nascar race 45 years ago there was no mistaking what make of car you were watching.....and the excitement spread to the showroom and then to the street.
Nascar pushes parity; and conformity helps make affordability an aid in keeping things afloat, if you can call fielding a team and a car affordable. I just can't get fired up by the drivers only.
Jack.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Bob,
Whenever you can get the payment in the mail is fine. I'll try to take a pic of the smoke unit tomorrow so that you can see it.
Banks,
From what I've been hearing, I didn't miss much by not going to the show. I think that a lot of people (including myself) just aren't in the buying mood like they are at the November show.
Brutus,
I don't think you can transfer stuff from one gamertag to another.
I sold my extra copy of the Lionel service manual by Kline on ebay for a nice profit this morning. The reserve wasn't met until the last few seconds, so I was nervous. I spent tonight playing foosball. The collapse of the roof at the local ice rink also made national news earlier. I am very suprised that no one was hurt after seeing what happened.
Jack, You nailed it on the "cookie cutter" NASCAR, at least for a lot of us old geezers who can still think back to the days of King Richard or even Bill Elliot in his Fords that just blew everything off the tracks for a few years. Then came the "better idea", restricter plates.
Kinda bummed about JJ being done in by the potholes that developed, guess all that rain and much colder than normal weather really deteriorated the transition areas.
Spent most of the time playing with the munchkin and his new RC Dinosaur, don't know which of us had the most fun with it.
Was a bit warm today, 84* and nuttin but sun.
Nite All
Off to bed. Banks, too wet to plow here. About time to prune grape vines. Meetings starting at 11:45 until about 9 PM tomorrow. About the same for Tuesday. Did run trains today. No derailments or pileups, LAZ [not like those Ohio guys].
RockIsland52Buckeye......."toxic grits"? Isn't that redundant?Jack.
Like Yankee and bad.
Sleep tight.
HI GUYZ,
17 here this morning to get 3-5 inches of SNO HI O!!!!! Hopefully a 2hr delay?
Ran trains last nite for 2 hrs, NO PILE UPs. All is good with the world.
Chuck......Let's load up the snow cannon. Someone in NC seems to be displeased with our past efforts.
Presidents Day.......................... The government is shut down. Didn't they do that last week?
I can't believe a race track developed a pot hole, but then again the track is in the South so ignorance is bliss.
Hi ho, hi ho......................you know the rest of the song.
Buckeye RiveterI can't believe a race track developed a pot hole, but then again the track is in the South so ignorance is bliss.
What do you expect? They just discovered asphalt and they kept fixing the pot hole with dirt!
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cold 10 degrees. Going up to 31 today with some snow showers on the way.
Today is a busy day. Chores to do and PT this afternoon. then an errand to run. No train time today. I need to clean track.
Nascar should be ashamed of themselves. After all this time, since last season, they have to do pot hole repair during their biggest race. With 200,000 fans watching. Good race, though.
Buckeye......Give me a couple of hours to get the cannon ready.
Dining car is here for the usual breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
Morning all,Getting ready to head out for breakfast with our friends from Chicago. They came here to thaw out a little. Raining right now, at least it is not that white stuff....YUCK!Regarding Daytona, from what I hear, the track has not been surfaced since the 70s. The drivers like that as it has a lot of "give", but will now have to be re-done. With a 31 degree bank, will be quite a job! Once that is done, it will be "tight" and the drivers will not be as enthused. Regarding NASCAR in general, one of my friends at a church I used to attend up in Harris County was a Nascar driver way back. He used to race against Dale Sr.'s father. He often spoke of the type of cars they drove when it was just this side of the bootlegger history. Real interesting guy to talk to. He had no use for the Jeff Gordons and other personalities we are seeing these days.
Bob, enjoy the photos of the mountain out there. I have thought about booking a Elk Hunt out in AZ. Real pretty place from what I have seen. You have that 2025 looking nice. I have one, but it needs some TLC.
Well, I am on call again and already got my first page this morning. Will head in later and take care of some business. I look forward to the day when I no longer have to take call....about 15 more years? Guess I will stick it out till the kids are done with college.God Bless,Dennis
Did you ever wonder how the track crew at Daytona can fix a pothole that will stand up to the pounding of over 40 cars travelling at 190mph+, and our own road crews cannot? Need to hire those guys up here.
Chief's call to Bass Pro Shops got McM his ride and hence greatly influenced the outcome of this race,.
Morning to All,
It has been weeks since I checked in. The snowhio around here has been keeping me busy. I've used my snow blower more this season than in the last 10 years combined. The forecasters are calling for 3 - 6 inches more today/tonight and some are making noises about the possibility of what they are calling wrap around snow that follows the low up the coast. So far we have lost 9 snow days. Last week was a total bust, no student days at all. Our parking lot at school is really not cleared enough for all staff to have a place to park yet. Two 24 inch plus snows in 5 days will do that.
Took my best girl out for a late dinner last night. She was patient enough to let me watch the end of the Pothole 500 before we went out.
Got to get some chores done around here today.
Take care,
Mitch

Morning. Sunny and cold. No snohio here. Must admit, Yankees are better at patching pot holes than we are. Why? More experience as they are one big pot hole. Meetings starting at 11:45 until 9 tonight. Really a busy week. I know the beavers are mad. Found their dam in one of the creeks that feeds the pond. It has a big hole in it and the water is gone. Friend Fred will check it again this afternoon as I will be tied up in meetings. May I wish the Yankees a very good day of snohio and enjoy. [I see why Buckeye enjoys snow. He does not have two big yards to mow in the summer. Snow gives him the same as me mowing. He gets out the snow blower and does his chores. As for the over the hill horn blower that lives in an iglo in Ioway, he just does not know any better. Why so many Yankees move to NC? They know better.]
