anjdevil - I tried to interest Wifey in a new Challenger this weekend. "Too small in back". Sigh  On a similar note, one of our rookies smashed up a Charger RT this morning...coulda swore I heard taps playing softly in the distance...

A Lovely Good Afternoon – Ash Wednesday-

Windy and cool about 54 now, down to 27 here in beautiful South Georgia/North Florida.

Fife – Reminds me of “A Christmas Story” when the old man buried the lamp....

They should fire that rookie for wrecking a perfectly good Police Pursuit Charger (ok, tell me where it is – the drivetrain could go in the station wagon...)

Tell the Wifey that it's not for the KIDS - just quick runs to the store (and I mean REAL quick..)

RockIsland/Jack – Glad I could be a hero to SOMEONE today...glad I could help.

Missed out on a lot of  Christmas cars and engine and some track --- I was in a meeting Banged Head $56 and it was LOCAL!!!!  ARRGGHHH!!!

Church later (Jim Phish – I already had a turkey and ham sandwich – my bad)

Angel for Brutus family and those I’ve missed.

Back to work --- Banged Head

Seeing the real B&O 6604 this past weekend prompted me to run my 1/48 scale counterpart.  MTH's original diesels are some good pullers.

RockIsland - FIFEPUP 2000 runs on Mountain Dew and Tostitos. Thumbs Up

Chuck......hang in there with the PT.  No pain no gain.  Suggest you consult our resident physical fitness guru Laz on the correct liquid analgesics to mitigate the muscle discomfort.

Jack

Jack.... I have consulted Dr. LAZ and he has told me to buy a case of OL MIL and drink 12 cans after PT. This will calm the muscles and leave me schloshed for 3 days. I think this remedy will work.

JACK,

Ifeel your pain on the honey dew list.  I watched the curling while wife was doing school work.  If you are home this afternoon curling is on the USA network from 12-5.  I'll be watching while running on treadmill.

Good Mornin, Ya'll, from Clear, Sunny, 30 Taxachusetts,

Brutus....Prayers continue.  Char's continued progress is what counts.   As Dennis so aptly put it, hang tough brother.  Easy for me to say, not so easy for Char and you to do.

Checked high and low, but my Fifepup 2000 is nowhere to be found......thankfully.  It was inefficient, sloppy,  expensive, and too aggravating to have anyway, if you guys know my meaning (son) Wink.  A pre-emptive dose of Advil last night before snow removal worked wonders.

Belated Happy B-Day OleTimer and Wes.  Weren't you the same two guys who were accused of fudging your age during the "How Old Are You" survey about a year ago?  OleTimer, if you were touched by all of these well wishes, please accept our apologies. It was not our intent.  Harassment was.  Will try harder next time. Big Smile

RT and NAVYJACK.....thanks for the stuff on the Iowa Class.  Brought back fond memories for me of my father.  My Dad bought me the Revell (?) model of the Missouri when I was a kid and we built it together.  After WWII, he was still incarcerated retained in the Navy as essential personnel.  He mentioned he hitched a ride on the Missouri from San Fran to San Diego after the WWII treaty had been signed in Tokyo.  I did some reading and have to assume the Missouri was making it's way from the Pacific theater through Pearl and the West coast on its way to Turkey for its next assignment and more post war issues in the Mediterranean.  Re the retirement of these floating monuments to American determination, if the Missouri was good enough for Casey Ryback (Under Seige), it is good enough for me.  Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey agree.  Wink

Chuck......hang in there with the PT.  No pain no gain.  Suggest you consult our resident physical fitness guru Laz on the correct liquid analgesics to mitigate the muscle discomfort.

Well, Rich (anjdevil2) may have saved me from wife's wrath who considers all things automotive MW (men's work).  Yesterday she was unsettled not having her AWD vehicle (our first) during the snowstorm.  I'm having an issue with wife's new(er) ride (suspension) which the dealer is (allegedly) trying to rectify.  A bring back, and this is day 2 of the second round.    He took the time to hunt down the TSBs and a make and model-specific automobile forum with discussions of exactly my problem.  He didn't have to go to those lengths to help me, but he did.  Thanks, Rich, for the ammo to use with the Service Techs.  Showed my wife your PM and she was impressed......with you, not me.

Dennis.....hope your pup recovers nicely.

DougM.....while I hear Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry's new HO exhibit is impressive, I am going to truly miss the O gauge one that operated for over 60 years.  That one was stellar.

Was good hearing from Jon and Charlie.  Worried they may have been suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Snowremoval Disorder.

Laz......I was intently watching the women's Olympic curling last night in peace and solitude when the wife strolled into the room and changed the channel to the Westmininster dog show.  "You weren't watching the Olympics, were you?"  No, dear, I was counting the specks of dust on the tv screen."  Would have pursued it, but the thought occured to me that all of that sweeping would trigger a thought in her of her "honey do" list which included the cobweb removal from the stairwell I have been promising to do since Q4 2009.  So I quickly acquiesced and utilized one of the most effective weapons in my diversionary repertoire.....asked her if she wanted me to get her some ice cream.  Fast thinking worked, again.

SJ.......you sold off most of your postwar sets?  Say it isn't so.  Shock  Sad

Bob......time for a skunk update.  What did you decide to name him?  Frank would be nice.

MikeC......YMCA closure due to weather?  Must have driven you into depression.

Buckeye......I just did the math on your early trips to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry with your second grade class and then again with the Boy Scouts.  Didn't realize you are that young.  Wink

RaySP......re your salute to the Wisconsin and all who served on her.  I second that salute.

8N......re Henry Ford's ego war with Enzo Ferrari back in 1963 to 1966.  Few know that the two had considered a Ford acquisition of Ferrari......right up until the two met.  Then it was WAR.  Ford got po'd because his factory racing team with the Ford GT suffered repeated setbacks (beginning in 1963) with aerodynamics, the earlier transmissions, and the factory Ford powerplants.  The earlier 289s, not enough grunt.  Re the latter, Ford and his ego were unwilling to wait on his own boys to iron out the engine issues, enter Holman Moody.  There is no substitue for cubic inches.  Top end, those suckers from 45 years ago could still keep pace on LeMans' 8 mile Mulsanne straight with today's modern iron.  A tribute to NASCAR, to American 'Git er done' mentality, and the will to win.

Been following the toy train oil and grease discussions in two threads with interest.  Good stuff, if only to learn about the science and other's practical experience.  Hope the discussions don't degenerate into a peeing contest or keep others from sharing their experience.

Later, gang.

Good Morning

Still cloudy, still cold but no new snow.

Chief, why would any one cook grits to eat, that stuff is pothole filler.

I had a nice chat with Doug M and Charlie last nite. Thanks, I think, to Charlie for getting me set up for York, got my pass yesterday and also received my $1.99 Scout tender from the bay.  It's in very good condition and that completes another PW set. I have sold off most of the PW sets but it's fun shopping for low cost items that are still nice....S.J.

Aloha. All fine here. Looks like there is sun rising over Lake Michigan though my office looks out across the Lake to the south at the steelworks on the Indiana shore. Great ride home after class with Sir J and then Charlie. Have to prep for my Sat. classes - have two of them - for the first time in a long while. Going to the Art Institute at lunchtime too. Buckeye, you'd find the Museum of Sci and Indus. much the same - except for the new HO train exhibit.

Morning.  Got ribbon cutting on seafood restaurant in Rolesville.  Funny thing, been open for months.  Seems Exec. Director of Chamber is finally getting to it.  Like a lot of things she misses.  They need to deal with that problem like we did ours [Town Manager].  No wonder they can not get their members to pay their dues.  So much for that one.  Regional Transportation meeting this afternoon.

Sure is cold and sunny.  Suppose to hit 50's later this week.  Weatherperson said we have only hit above 50 once this month [our normal is 50].  The Yankee cold air machine has been working overtime.  Nice thing is it has reverse effects on them too.

Might get a train to run in a few.

Have a good one.

BTW: Sir J has not checked in so I guess he is following my directions and cooking grits for breakfast.

Chief, if you really want to have fun, call for an investigation as to why this real estate agent was so adamant on pushing the deals he had and also the school admin. for supporting him.  You are right about the commission.  That should not be in the deal.  If he was working for the board, he should have received a payment for locating and securing the best property at the best price.

Brutus, expect some up and downs in the course of things with Char.  All you can do is support her and help her keep her spirits up.  She has had a good, smooth course so far, so I am sure any set backs will seem difficult.  Will continue to pray for her and for the family....stay strong brother!

Navyjack, I agree with your tag line about the violins.  I have played our violin teacher's violin in comparison to my new one....so sweet!

Well, dog is still limping, but the site doesn't seem any more swollen or angry...so it is just observe and treat.  No major cases on today, so I will head in later and cover call duty.  It will give me some time to go work out and get these bones moving.

Have a great day of it.

Smilewhen i was overseas saw plenty of f-4's navy ones of course, also had a squadron of vigilantes.  marines had a squadron of ov-10's.  have picture of wife sitting on a large napalm tank under wing of f-4 that says on front "F--K HO CHI_MINH"  saw the Missouri pulled in to srf long beach for refitting about 1982.  at time i was on uss pledge an mso homeported there.  she was really huge.  she was pulled in with three fleet tugs.  i remember she had very little rust on her.  i really like streamlined diesels, an since i grew up with them i have ignored them.  have been saving up to buy a pair of e-7's in acl purple.  will finally have some (albeit used) next month.  have four lionel aluminum acl cars that i got several years ago i will pair up with them.  congrats rt on getting the williams trainmaster.  i have an early pennsy green sd-45 with he plastic railings that i love(easy to please)also have a wiliams trainmaster in jersey central that i love.  you will like the trainmaster.  it is a brutish engine.when i was overseas i was a CT and it was a great rating. i have a lot of respect for MS's as when i was going to CT A school in san diego, for duty i worked with the MS's making donuts and frosting cakes (at 5am). i could not get to the chow hall after class before it closed, so i was starving to death.  i was real happy to work at the chow hall before class with all the abundant food, (and at that time the navy had the best coffee).have a great day guys.

sbmmbob...did you get that 2025 working good?

doug m....hope that you are ok

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 25 degrees. Cloudy. Going up to 31 today. A few snow showers.

Today is a busy day. Wife has to do the grocery shopping.  She will not be happy.  We got another inch of snow last night. Roads will be slippery this morning.

Later this afternoon, I am cleaning track. Running trains. Staying hid.

Dining car has arrived and I am having the usual for breakfast. Cheerios.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Hi GUYZ,

23 here and cold.  To get to 32?

Watched curling last nite at Olympics.  No not the 12oz. or 16 oz. that I do but the stuff with the 46 lb rocks that they slide and broom on the ice.  Facinating game, lots o stategy, and probably a good beer drinking game?  Pretty cool!

Stay frosty,

Sorry I missed the guys tonight - had my father-in-law on the phone for about 2 plus hours fixing his wireless router.  We had to reset it to factory defaults and start over as I wasn't sure what had been changed and the stuff we were trying didn't work.  After that, we got it working though.

Watching a possible rise in temperature for my wife, up 1/2 degree we think.  If it goes up another 2 degrees, we will go to the hospital.  Guess we will find out later tonight or tomorrow.

Re the Westminister Dog Show.....the female red Doberman (incorrect terminology) named CJ in the final for Best in Show shares some of our pup's lineage.  DougM.....there were two or three Illinois dogs that went nearly all the way.

BTW, you finally zeroed in on me with your Yankee Snowblaster 6000.  Got dumped on today, about 8", and the real heavy stuff.  After I got the bottom of the drive cleared off so I could get one of the cars back in our driveway, I went into the house to get the car keys.  Heard that dreaded noise.  Too late.  The street snowplow guy had struck, and the snowblowing of the end of the drive had to be redone.  Banged Head

High clouds and mid 20's today.

Was on a business trip in Norfolk years ago.  Saw the Missourri heading into port while I was taking a walk on the beach after dinner.  Impressive, even from several miles away.  Fast too, compared to the ore freighters I'm used to seeing on the Great Lakes.

All for now.

Roseyville has an approved High School.

I heard so many lies today.  The real-estate guy that bought the Rolesville Middle School site and the bad HS site got up and said I did not know anything about streams and rock.  HUMM  I presented a DENR DWQ map showing that the streams shown on their map had been delineated [done away with].  He also said I knew nothing about real-estate but I got the price of the land for the middle school reduced 12K per acre after he said it could not be reduced and the owners had other buyers [which they did not].  WHY did he say that.  He got a % of the selling price.  Why is he mad.  He has lost his contract with the school system.  All the so called experts were on the school system's payroll and hired by the "staff".

Now to relax and eat popcorn [watch Westminster dog show on TV, I'm sure Jack is watching too]

BTW: need to hire Buckeye to run that bunch. Wink  The Asst. Supert. for Facilities was asked if the process of building the HS could be sped up.  He said that it might be possible but he did not know how.  OOH  I can get it done.  Maybe he needs to go back from wince he came [he is not a NC boy].

Jon, glad you enjoyed that.  If mentored right, that little girl is going places.

RT, I have a friend who was in the Marines during the Lebanon mission.  He has told me of being at the airport in Beirut and having those shells fly over when he was calling in firing missions, and then again, when he was on ship and the guns would fire.  In a word...AWESOME!  Only battle ship I have been on is the North Carolina.  I was in the USAF for a short stint till I 4F'ed with my knee.  Only cool stuff I got to see was Warthogs and F4s.

Long day with plenty of paperwork.  Had to have a discussion with a guy who just can't seem to get it right.  In this business, can't be second rate.  Also had to have a discussion with administrative type as she has had my paperwork on her desk for two weeks regarding reimbursement...They tell you to have it in within 7 days of the meeting, but it sits on a mid level management's desk for 2 weeks without going to accounts payable...just lame.

Alright, off my rant.  Came home tonight and the dog was limping.  Had to restrain him to ID the issue.  Has a cut on the inside of one leg.  Almost looks like a snake bite, but I believe it is too cold for them right now.  If it had been poisonous, he'd been a lot worse before I saw him.  Put Bag Balm on it and he seems to be getting a little better.  Will have to watch that.

On the way home, I stopped off at the church to pick up the audition packet as they are having preliminary auditions Saturday.  I am not going to be one of the leads, have too much to do behind the scenes.  I needed the packet as we also have the filming schedule in it.  A lot of stuff to get done before we get cranked up.

Laz, sorry about the Shay.  Trainz has been good for me, and I am glad that they didn't keep you hanging as some do these days.  Just wish they could have found what you wanted and made good on the deal.  I would like to eventually like to get one, but right now, I just want to complete the projects I have and also get ready for tuition for the kids school....a chunk of change this year and we will certainly get less back with the increase in taxes.

Hope everyone has a blessed night.

Aloha from my class computer lab - looking forward to my train ride home with my virtual fellow riders.  I remember seeing the New Jersey squeak through the Gatun Locks in the CZ on her way to Vietnam. Quite a sight! When we were in HI back in June, they were prepping MO to move into dry-dock.

navyjack

Smilehello rt were you really a crew member on the Wisconsin?  i had lunch on the mighty mo when she was in the ship repair facility at long beach when she was being modernized.  she was awesome.  she still had the podium where wwii was surrendered by the japs.  i remember they added tomahawk cruise missiles and phalynx guns to replace six of the 5 inch turrets.  she was built in ww11 but still fast enough to keep up with modern ships.  the armor around cic was 22 inches thick.  in the 80's Ron Reagan, a true conservative decided the navy needed 600 ships and we needed 15 carrier battle groups, we only had 11 with one aging carrier, so he retired one carrier and brouht the four iowa class battleships back on active duty to create surface battle groups... those were the days...navyjack

p.s. the navy now has 280 ships...expected to go down to 230

Yes I was on her durning the first gulf war. I actually went aboard her in January of 1990 and left around June of 1991 as she was getting ready for decom come September. wanted to stay to the end but couldn't they wouldn't let me actually wanted to ride her to Philly but they had just a few boatsnmates do that as she went from Norfolk to Philly by tugs.

that is the only ship I really miss as I really like being on her. Its hard to explain but there just something about being a Battle Ship sailor you get a sense of pride when you were on her I didn't any ship befor and didn't feel it on my last ship.

I was a MS2 on board her most the time in the bakery.

well did it again I won a ebay item tonight listed as Williams? Pennsylvania trainmaster. Needs railings

Buckeye, only the Art Institute is free all month.  The others are free intermittently this month - a Tues here, or a Wed there. I try to make them all.

My first visit to Chicago was in 1962 with my 5th grade class, who incidently are still some of my best friends and we were turned loose in the Museum of Science and Industry.  I returned in 1967 with the Boy Scouts and it has been a love affair ever since.

Congratulation Blueberry Chuck!!!!! I see you were nominated as the SNOWOHIO person of the year.  I do hope that you are the honoree this year.  I can't remember another year when SNOWOHIO has been such a pain in the butt to Maryland, Virginia, N.C., Georgia, Mississippi and Florida.  I also hope you wint the SNOWUSA award, but it is hard to beat the guys from Michigan and Wisconsin.

Jon.......I have been to Glacier.  It is fantastic!!!! One of our best National Parks.  The Going to the Sun Highway is fantastic.  Make sure you see the railroad stations in the park.

Smilehello rt were you really a crewmember on the wisconsin?  i had lunch on the mighty mo when she was in the ship repair facility at long beach when she was being modernized.  she was awesome.  she still had the podium where wwii was surrendered by the japs.  i remember they added tomahawk cruise missiles and phalynx guns to replace six of the 5 inch turrets.  she was built in ww11 but still fast enough to keep up with modern ships.  the armor around cic was 22 inches thick.  in the 80's Ron Reagan, a true conservative decided the navy needed 600 ships and we needed 15 carrier battle groups, we only had 11 with one aging carrier, so he retired one carrier and brouht the four iowa class battleships back on active duty to create surface battle groups... those were the days...navyjack

p.s. the navy now has 280 ships...expected to go down to 230

Jon in Ioway, this is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCX9UY143xI  This girl has some talent on the trumpet!  Perhaps she was one of your students?  Anyway, beautiful song played in a beautiful manner.

Dennis--thanks for that link, another friend sent that link a long time ago and I enjoyed seeing it again today, lots of potential for that young lady and it looks like she has nerves of steel.

Finally, a free afternoon/evening for me and it's NOT SNOWING Cool  We are just buried and as of today, we are at #8 for all time snow totals since they began keeping track.  I have to think with lots of winter still on the horizon that we will move up even higher on the total list.  It's been a struggle to be sure but we'll make it, thank goodness we have two 4 wheel drive vehicles and a neighbor who can use his John Deere back hoe w/bucket on our driveway if my ATV w/blade can't handle it.  Bigger concern right now is an ice *** on our roof valley and the imminent possibility of flooding when all of this melts.  We live at the top of a big hill so we won't ever have any flooding issues but we all need to pray for a very slow thaw this spring.

Super busy time of year for me making school visits and that's a good thing.  I'm happy that many folks still value my opinions but there comes a point that I need to learn the word no.  I worked with 4 schools last week, two so far this week and Saturday is one very large contest that I've worked at for many, many years.  Well organized and it's only 20 miles away---that might seem irrelevant but typically I have to travel close to 150 miles from home as I prefer to not be so close to all of the directors I know so well.  Once the middle of April and more importantly the first weekend in May arrive I am done until marching band season, YES!

I am planning two major trips this late spring and early August on the bike.  The late spring trip will take me down through MO (Branson), Arkansas and a day or two in Memphis.  Would love to get over to the Smokey Mountains but I don't know if my riding partner (youngest son) will have enough vacation time.  Plus he will probably want to get back to his new bride .....    He and I have had some great trips these last 5 years.  My bigger trip is taking me to Glacier National Park and hopefully Washington & Oregon in August.  I will be going solo on that trip.  I've never been to Glacier and I have a burning desire to spend as much time as possible hiking and shooting pics.  I'll be gone about two weeks so I guess it's a good thing I'm busy right now saving money for this epic journey!

Chief--glad you like Firefox, we've had good luck with it.  I still use Safari a little, not sure why.

That's enough rambling, need to grab the snow rake and pull some snow off the roof as it's a gorgeous day here.  PLUS--the trains are calling to me Thumbs Up, they have been neglected lately.
