RT,

My problem is that I went a bit overboard with PW Lionel aceesories on the ping pong table.Big Smile I am considering putting the Lionel equipment away so I can have all of the space for the Flyer equipment. I tried mixing PW Lionel and Flyer on my last layout, and I didn't care for the look. I should be able to get at least three Flyer loops in a 5x9 space. I am going to try working at least two Flyer loops into the Christmas layout to see what is possible.

Jim,

I have wanted a 766 for about the past nine years, but if I did find one, it was too pricey. I won this one for $106.25. I am not sure if that is too much given the condition, but at least I finally have one to complete the passenger train that I have been dreaming of putting together. This got me to thinking of building a dedicated Flyer layout similar to yours. I just need to either find a suitable space, or put my PW Lionel away and use the ping pong table. I can't stand just having the majority of the Flyer collection on shelves or in boxes anymore. I want to run it and enjoy it.

I beleive you said you had 4 loops well heres and idea if 5 just add one one way or the other

Jim you could do 2 loops lionel PW and then 2 loops AF and put AF in back of ( inside loops) of the lionel that way give them a distance look as they do get smaller farther away or put them in outer loops as Lionel is a little bigger and it would kinda even out that way .

Good Afternoon all,

Just a quick check in during lunch.

Dennis - My prayers for the eternal rest of the soul of your Mom and forthe loved ones grieving

Jim - Congratulations on the Gilford Station.  It is a fun piece.  Place it where you can get to it easily because the people sometimes balk coming back up the ramp.  They use the same felt feet as the cattle if they need to be replaced.

May God bless

Jim

Doug M. - done deal. Send me your address and I'll get it in the mail.

Jim - I think you and I have some of the same "issues". Been thinking about passenger cars for the 2026. For O-27 I've found that a lot of the cars appear a bit too long and was wondering if they ever made any O-27 Amtrak cars. Found a brand new set from 1995 on the bay. It has a diesel, but hey it's an Alco. Never had a new O set, and the only other was my HO set in 1972. And I also have a birthday this week.

Should have enough track and switches now (not to mention trains) to set up a good part of the layout I'm am thinking of. With a little luck I'll be running 2 trains simultaneously by next week. Promise I'l post a video.

8n,

      PM sent.

I bought myself a birthday gift on ebay last night. I won a Flyer 766 Guilford Station wih the 735 car, all four figures, and the control box. It is a bit rough, but that's ok given the rarity of it. I got the 302AC back together, and it went together with no problems this time.

Aloha all. The painters are here - to repaint a 'green wall' in this studio we're building here at work. So I'll be dealing with complaints about the new paint smell all day. I don't care. It took forever to arrange this. ;) Tonight's my last evening class until 'next year' - then I have a few weeks to grade these folks and three online classes. My boy would like that Small Engine book, Bob. I'm trying to encourage him to take advantage of the shop classes the high school offers. Jim, thanks for the tip on removing that stuck nut on the mower blade. I'll try that tomorrow night. Bought six CTT issues from the past year to share with my conductor friend on my ride home tonight - for his nephews... Sure they are ;)

Good Morning,

Dennis, your mom and family will be remembered in our prayers. I'm sure that there is another bright star in the sky.

Finally returned from our Saturday wedding in  Berwyn, PA. They lucked out with an outdoor wedding. Little cool and at least they had a tent. We had nothing scheduled till 1800 Friday.  Upon returning from the MALL, I looked in the yellow pages for a LHS. Called one up to find out if they were the "NICHOLAS SMITH TRAINS" . The answer was yes and only five miles away. Guess where I was for the next two hours? FANTASTIC !! Also had a good day to drive the 10 hours return trip to SH.

REMEMBER THE VETERANS TOMMORROW and ALSO THOSE STILL IN HARMS WAY.

Good Morning

Sunny and 40s this morn.

Granny has left to spend the day with some ladies from church. A famous fried chicken place about two hours drive.  More commomly known by traveliers as a tourist trap. It is a nice little town with more people looking than buying. Me I am not sure about today  yet. Fried egg and bologna sandwich for breakfast....S.J.

Last shift on the hill for this week. Going to be a long day. Besides the observations of course, we have a big tour and the quarterly safety inspection. Then to drive home (w/ the truck that's headed to surplus) and finish up what I need to while I still have 2 good feet. 1615 and switches are on their way so at least I'll be able to entertain myself.

Doug - they still teach a class on small engine repair? Cool! Have a pretty good book I found at the used bookstore years ago on small engine repair. If your son can use it I'll be happy to pass it along, as I try to avoid that stuff now since I have too much "major" engine repair:)

Buckeye - the runbys of the Ohio Central locomotives were awesome and it was cool to see the freight trains. I especially like it when they used the 4-8-4 (6325?) to move a bunch of empty coal hoppers from the power plant. Doing what she was made to do. BTW, what's the oval thing on top of the smokebox of the Canadian 4-6-2?

Chief - watching the satellite and radar images of Ida. Stay dry.

Watched part of the America by Rail cross country video last night. Makes me want to take another trip back east. I especially like the footage of the Amtrak Genesis engines. When I had a studio downtown, I often used to go up on the roof on Sunday nights and watch the train make the stop at the station nextdoor. The Genesis engines have this Harleyesque rumble and they hiss and pop. Too cool. Are you sure there isn't an Alco under there?

Morning.  Cloudy and spitting.  Thye saw 4 days of rain.  Think the pond will over flow and the lake will suddenly go to flooded parking lot.

Fifey, take it back.  Do check and see if the fuses blew.  Buckeye and I have one and has not given trouble.  Mine is 6 years old [not the GEN II version].  If they tell you to call Pro Mariner, call Ihan [if he is not available, leave a message] at 603-766-7610 [his direct number] and tell him you were referred by me.

Lucy is barking and wanting out.  Later.

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Looks like Ida is gonna hook right and fill up the Chief's pond.

Chief - My new Pro Mariner charged the batteries ok, then tripped the breaker.  Now the LED lights on the Sport 12 won't come on... May have to take it back to West Marine.

probe - The Alpine B&B is in the background of my pics in last week's SPF.  The other buildings I can't have til XMAS.  This year's LEMAX collection is one of the most handsome ever.  Although I do love my Dept 56 structures, they tend to be a little too shiney or whimical, whereas the LEMAX have a lot more realistic detail going on.  Perhaps I'll do a SPF one day on the buildings on my layout, as I do give a lot of thought on the purchase and placement of each one.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and still mild in SE Indiana.  Can't believe I went to the YMCA at 8:30 last night wearing only gym shorts and a T-shirt (shoes and socks as well).  Supposed to be relatively warm all week.  Some one here may ask why I was going to the gym so late....it was because some sick b-----d decided to unleash a particularly nasty virus on the internet.  I spent most of the evening trying to kill the stupid bug.  It is still there, but I think it is de-activated...for now.  Still getting a lot of attacks for some strange reason.   Don't these people have a life????

On the positive side of things, I did get an e-mail from the Brazilian exchange student I tutored in soccer last year.  It was nice to hear from her, and it is fun to read her "English".  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  TBIL after "V" tonight.  I have tomorrow off so I can party all night long.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Thoughts and prayers for everyone on the forum as I think we could all use them in one form or another.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Cloudy and 60's here,

My wife was too lame to go to work today.  Got her to the doctor, who suspects a pinched nerve.  Perscribed muscle relaxants, anti-infalmetory, and pain killers.  Told her to stay off of her feet for a few days too. This sounds like the symptoms are being treated.  We wonder what caused the pinched nerve to begin with? She has not done anything unusual lately.

Lost a bid on another 1033 transformer on e-bay.  Guess I'm being too cheap.  Oh well, there are a lot of them out there.  I'll just keep trying.

Later all.

Well, day one in the new position is behind me and no tears or gnashing of teeth, so I guess it's going to be okay for all concerned.  I hope this will lead to a promotion.  Time will tell Smile

Watching Petticoat Junction episodes with the family - what a fun tv show with plenty of train action in the 2nd season too Thumbs Up

Charlie - You need to get the newer issue of Trains with 1225 covered, very good!

Rootbeer and banilla sound good to me!  Don't know what happened with RT, haven't seen him around in the past few days.  Have to make a special trip over there and see what's up.  Tardis is about ready, just taking on board the last of the supplies along with frosted mugs for the rootbeer, Old Mills, and Miller Lite!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

DOUG M.,

Hope your boy has fun with the small gas engines.  Maybe he can get one or two running and send them to ROGER's CORNER (elevation 936ft), they still have MULEs there.  Maybe not, they'd scare the animals right out a town, then they'd have to walk all over the tar nation.

Good evening

60s today, grass is done for this year. Mower and trimmer gas tanks empty and put to bed. I got through the day with a Celebrex cap, Something to be careful with, one of those that is blamed on heart attacks if overdone.  But one is OK.

Chief I did eat grits once in Ky. of course I did not know any better then. As I recall it was like eating sandpaper with  butter. I shall wait for Brutus and the thingy. Banilla and rootbeer for all...S.J.

The rumor mill says that Stanzi had ankle surgery today, ugh.  If that's true I'm very glad that I'll be busy at our youngest son's wedding instead of watching the funeral on TV.  However, I will be cheering for the tuba player Thumbs Up  Not many on the forum will understand that last comment.

Bob.....If you like the video of Ohio Steam, you should live near the tracks where the thing was filmed.  One of the most stunning sights to see in Ohio is a steam train pulling freight cars. It stops people in their tracks and they just stare.

Dennis,

Sory to hear about your loss.

Doug M.,

If you can't get the nut loose after using WD40, buy a can of PB Blaster. It is much better than WD40, just don't get it on plastic.

I got the 302AC back together Saturday night, and it runs very strong. I noticed that it chuffs much louder after I polished the cylinder and piston, but the smoke unit remained cold. So, I had to rebuild it last night. I enlarged the wick holes between the upper and lower chambers with a 1/8" drill bit while I had it apart. It smokes good now, but I am having trouble getting the front end of the chasis to seat itself in the boiler. The back is in the motor mounts, but the front won't drop into place. At that point, it was 2AM, so I decided to quit for the night.

Aloha all. A nice weekend's worth of outdoor activities and nice weather. Had to actually bag the rest of the leaves yesterday when the mower went kaput - the blade assembly loosened and I couldn't undo the nut, so zapped it with WD-40 and I'll let it sit a while. Busy day today here in Chicago. Glad Brutus enjoyed his birthday. Laz, I'd be sure to visit with you! ;) My boy gets to take 'small motor repair' next term.
