Mornin’ Boys,

Fog and clouds right now up to 78 or so.  Kinda describes my mood “fog & clouds”.Sigh

Don B, That is a nice helix.  Thumbs Up

Angel for everyone – really going through a rough patch here, so there hasn’t been anything new – I’ve trying to get caught up at work.   They’re not selling cars but keeping me busy, just the same.

With everything going on at home, I COMPLETELY forgot about Take your Train to Work Day tomorrow.  I’ll have to check and see if I can get something together.  Weather here should be the best in 3 years, so I can do this outside.

I haven’t heard from the Philly job, I was supposed to call them yesterday, but I wound up going to Ocala at the last minute.  Thank God, I didn’t miss my appointment last night, it would have killed me.

OK, well, I’ll check back later.

Hi GYZ,

Rainy 44 degrees.  Had to run out of doors this morning.  A little dark but got my 1.5 miles in.

PAT, little more taters and beans will do fine.  Good eating.

RAY, we still eat squirrels.  Make up a stew with 2-3 squirrels, boiled first then meat picked off, and taters, carrots, cellery, beans, garlic, tomatoe soup all done in crock pot, simmer for 6 hrs.  Good vittles!

DON, beauty of a job.  BIG CONGA!!!

BUCKEYE, NO TIME FOR TRAINS?  WOW, your letting us down.ShockSadSigh.  Get well man get well.

Stay frosty,

Good Morning All: (I'm sure its past everyones bedtime, us yougun's are still going strong.)

Jon,  Sounds like your having a good time.  Would be a good time for a little "shaker", eh, Doug?  Would hate for you to miss out on all the local features.  Honestly, if you only had 2+ hours for Sea World you wouldn't have gotten to see much.  It probably worked out for the best.  If you get a chance while your in S.D., and get to look at the tall buildings downtown, they are interesting.   Often referred to as a tool box.  The tops of the buildings are unusual, there are three hex shapped buildings of various heights that look like sockets standing on end, another pair of buildings have star shaped tops, that appear to be a couple of phillips screwdrivers, and a wedged shaped building that looks like a slotted screwdriver.  There are a couple of others also, but I forget what they are.  Don't miss the Train museum!!!  It is one of the very best I have ever seen.  What I have always noticed is the smallest area is dedicated to O scale, and yet it always, seems to have the most interest.  And it always is the busiest.  Doug and his crew have done a fantastic job!!  Don't worry about not making it up here on this trip, there is always next time.  Just enjoy the time you have, that's the most important.  (Wouldn't suggest going to Black's Beach, though.  You might find it a little cold.)  I will wait until I hear your home before I ship Doug Murphys car, either by a post on forum or email.

Had some interesting time the past couple of days.  Working with a friend (Lloyd), helping him with getting a display ready for the up coming Cal-Stewart meet.  He has been making helix's for N-Scale and HO, for the past couple of years.  Convinced him to try an O'Scale:

So yesterday, we discussed some display options with what he currently had cut-out, settled on a O 72, 1 1/2 helix, then today I found out he is going to have enough material for a "Double Helix".  (Having 2 operating together.  Some very interesting stuff going on!  He is a "Master Carpenter" and just getting more and more involved in trains.  He didn't have a piece of O scale track, and doesn't have any O scale engines, etc..  So we discussed minimum and maximum requirements and dimension needs to determine feasibility of producing a "low-cost" kit.  He has done it!  Extremely reasonable on price, and designed rock solid.  I would have no concern running my Legacy Big Boy on it.  The grade is less than 2% and has a 6 5/8" vertical clearance.  Discussed footprint of various other sizes, all the way down to 36" diameter.  The 36 is indeed doable, but would be more oblong than a "true" helix,  But still looking good.  He is going to be displaying/introducing the O scale version in the Layout Section of Cal Stewart.  (Same area Ray is going to be working in.)  I will see if I can steal away some time and help him setup on Friday.  I'm thinking this could be a good item for a York show.  You regular York guys, are there any Helix's displayed at York?  I would think, there would be interest.

TARDIS is ready and I guess Jim wants to drive, so let me grab some dramamine, lol!

Ray--

I too wish we had more time here, perhaps in 6 months the boss will need to come back again (she does come out here twice a year) and at that point I can take off and head your direction and also hook up with Don.  It's good to have something to look forward to.

8ntruck--

You are right about the full throttle when the hook grabs the cable, that was explained clearly today.  They did that in case they missed the cable and they could take right off again.  When they hit the deck they are going about 160 MPH and stop in two seconds ............... at that point a man stands in front of the aircraft and signals the pilot to throttle back and move to the side for storage as the next plane lands in about 1 minute .............  It was interesting to see the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier across the bay, nuclear powered.  The only fuel on board is for the jets.  Would love to tour that ship, probably will never happen.

Pat, speaking of dove hunting, a friend of mine used to tell me about going.  I guess the b**ast is the only part big enough to eat and you have to have several I gather.  Haven't had any game to eat in years.  My brother in Virginia hunts in the Winter but it's too hard for me to do now.  Too far to drive etc etc.  I've even just about given up on fishing which I love but we are too far from the good places.  Do people still eat squirrel?  Seems like they were eating gray squirel in the winter months when I was a kid back in the 40's but maybe it was because of meat rationing during WWII,  Squirrel looks too much like a rat to me.  We used to have wild rabbit but that was pretty good.  Of course Venison is what most hunters like or pheasant and quail.

Glad you got your corn in before the weather got you.

later,

Ray

Jon, thanks for the warning on Sea World prices.  I am going to be in San Diego for the Thanksgiving week end at the Dixieland Jazz Festival and whatever else we can do but it won't be Sea World.  Been there done that years ago.  Prices are probably nuts at Disneyland as well.

Wish you had more time. Don told me that you were coming out to the Coast and we both could have showed our layouts to you.  Also the largest train meet West of the Mississippi is taking place this coming week end in Pasadena at the Convention Center.  The Richard Nixon Presidential Library opened it's Festival of Trains display yesterday to the public in Yorba Linda, Ca.  I was there Monday night for a preview just for invited guest.  I loaned them a pre war type 116 standard gauge station for their display.

Enjoy your stay in San Diego.  Hope you have fun.

Cloudy, misty, rainy day in the 40's again.  Supposed to have some sunshine tomorrow.

If I remember correctly, when jets were being operated off of the Midway, they tended to be somewhat underpowered and had lousy throttle response.  I think landing procedure called for full throttle about the same time as you snagged the arresting cable.

Later.

Evening all,

Sounds like everyone is busy or on the mend, which is good.  I think about you guys a lot and read but don't get to post much due to lack of time.  I have something else that I should be working on but don't feel "inspired" to write.

Continued prayers are needed and being offered.

May God bless

Jon, All of those parks have crazy prices, don't see how a family on vacation can afford it anymore. We buy season passes that are good for the zoo and the wild animal park, fairly reasonable plus it comes with free parking for season pass holders.

Sounds great for the RR Museum visit, hopefully the harbor cruise/tour will get you close to the Hotel Del down in Coronado. Fantastic place, believe it is touted as being the largest "stick built" structure in the country.

Was gonna give you a call but SWMBO was really anxious to get the Christmas Tree up, you have three guesses (even though there are only two choices) as to which took priority. Whistling

Will be sending a PM via CTT later.

Doug--

Sharyl should be finished by 1:00 PM tomorrow so perhaps we should do the harbor tour/cruise tomorrow afternoon and leave the zoo for Friday and the museum Sat. morning.

Really enjoyed the USS Midway today for about 3 hours, well worth the time and very reasonable with great Docent's to talk with.  I looked at the crews sleeping quarters ....... uhh, no thanks.  What a great old air craft carrier, I'm glad they have her so we can see how our hero's defended us.  I cannot imagine landing a jet on that deck, what talent our pilots have.

I then drove over to Seaworld, paid the $12.00 to park and was ready to buy my ticket  and the gentlemen said "$69.00" and I said "what"? He replies "nope that's the only ticket we sell", I couldn't believe it, I didn't buy a ticket as I was only going to be there for maybe two hours+ ........ good news, I did get my parking $$ back.  I'm OK with paying a reasonable entrance fee but that one just blew me away, maybe I need to get out more.  Not sure how families deal with those prices.

I did pick up a train museum brochure and it looks fantastic, we are both excited about that plus meeting you!  I'm doing great getting around town without any problems,  THANK YOU Garmin GPS Thumbs Up.  That's it from the left coast, this two hour time difference is making me tired!  Won't see Sharyl until later tonight, I think I see a nap in my near future!

31 pages in 18 days. Looks like we are going for a record!

Dennis - Heavy cream gravy sound great as dove gravy. We have quail here to, but I like to hunt in the open.Dinner Over the years the pellets have kept the dentist in business!

Banks - I tend to be a lazy hunter. Dove hunting is a mid-day thing, not out before dawn for deer.

laz - For the 4 of us we need 10-12 dove. We got 8. Have to have more mashed potatoes then planed.

Mike - I wandered what activity was going on in the back of the Tardis. Had a hard time keeping the thingy level.

Chief - Far be it for me to discourage your hugging and kissing interludes with the pig, but you do know they have nothing to do with H1-N1.Whistling

TBIL and I will bring the sauteed dove (without the pellets).

Good afternoon Y'all!  Had a quiet morning.  Lots of small cases to get done, but went well.  Cut out about 11am to head to the Sheriff's department Shooting range.  Did the combat course...outshot everyone, including the experts....I've been doing competitions for a number of years (but they didn't know thatWhistling).

Just an observation, but look at this motley crew here:  We have all kinds of injuries and issues we are contending with.  What is great about this place, is that we can all come here, share our lives and get encouragement from our friends here.

Had a nice lunch with the brothers who are writing the script of the next movie.  Was a most enjoyable time in that they are both great men of faith and have very good advice for the issues that I have been facing.  Keeping the right perspective is paramount in dealing with our loss.

Drove through the NS yard in town today.  There were more locomotives today than at anytime I have ever seen there.  A couple of Union Pacific engines, along with better than 10 NS engines.  Not sure what is going on, but perhaps they are in process of shipping some motive power around.

God Bless,
Dennis

Mornin' All.

Jon, If you go for your beach walk starting at La Jolla Shores be careful how far north you walk, chances are you could run into the "skinny dippers area". Shock Blindfold

I'll give ya a call later today to set-up the museum visit, it will be hard to see both in one day.

As for the flying, look on the bright side, your flight crew weren't playing on their laptops resulting in overflying the airport. Whistling

I think I like this southern CA weather Cool Holy Cow!  Inland high of 72 today so I already have my shorts on and I'm heading for the beach for a L O N G walk.  Doug--I think we are headed for the Zoo and Museum on Friday, Don--I doubt that we will be headed north, just not enough time.

The only negative about the trip--flying.  All on time but talk about crowded, I hate it.  I fly about twice a year and although it's a quick way to get someplace it's absolutely misery.

Doug,

We were watching that program a few nights ago. I never knew that color footage like that of the war existed. It seems like an interesting show.

Brent,

I was starting to wonder where you went.Smile

I got my online work done last night, so I decided to work on the Flyer 766 station. After about half an hour, it was vibrating nicely, and the figures were moving at a good pace. So I thought "Maybe I can get it to work better yet". Well, I am right back where I started now.Banged Head I've got to get a Flyer parts order placed today as well.

Aloha all. Rainy here - on its way to Ohio and Michigan. Went to Fields nee Macys this morning before work to try to use some coupons. Nothing like a big-city department store during the holidays. Have to go find Santa one of these days. Sorry missed you last night, Brutus. Had to get organized for grading. Also boxed up our Rock Band game that has a broken drum - took forever as it is outsized. Found the extended warranty I bought and will try to use it. Anyone watch the WWII on HD series on the History channel?

Cloudy and cool.  Suppose to rain.  Got meetings this afternoon and one tonight in the Triangle.  Means late getting home.

Brent, thought that was usual for you [being high]. Whistling I understand.

Should see the video of the DOT moving sand off of highwy 12 at Hatterass.  Sand was higher than the big front end loader.   Took a couple of days to clear.

Off to the gym and then go pick up Lucy at groomers [I was up at 5:30 AM to get her there on time Sigh ]

BTW: finger is doing great.  did discover that there are 5 stiches worth.  Now I can kiss and hug pigs.  Got swine flu shot while I was at Dr.'s.  She wanted me to have it as I get pneumonia every spring.

Have a good one.

Mornin' Fellas.

Busy as a fox in a hen house around here. Since I cut my leg I've been pulling 15 - 18 hour days for work trying to get this project done and get the data into our systems from a company we acquired back in August.

Leg is on the mend and today I go to get the stitches removed. PT is going well, have most of the ROM back! In a week or so we'll start strengthening the muscle again... funny because I don't remember doing any strengthening to begin with! Smile

Prayers for Dennis

Belated Happy Birthday to Brutus

Not sure what else is going on as I haven't read the 18+ pages since my last post. Sad Prayers for those that need them and happiness for those that need that too.

I need to make some phone calls to those members who called while I was dopped up. Chief I know you're one of them! Smile The day you called I was so dopped up I couldn't see straight... then work started and haven't had time to spend with The Q let alone anything else. She is really bummed/*** about that as well.

Good morning all,

It is raining heavily in SE Indiana with temps in the 50s today. Busy last night.  Went to YMCA first and did treadmill and soocer drills, no weights.  Had supper, went to zoning board meeting to check out what neighbor had planned down the street.  No major disruption so no problem.  Got gasoline for truck and stopped by my dad's for a few.  Watched "V".  Not too sure yet, but found out next show is last one for 2009.  Go figure.  Fought the viruses on the computer again and some SL.  Was tired.  Slept well.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL, and I am glad Patrick drove last night.  Don's neighbor was in fine form last night although not quite as good as the one lady on "Dancing with the Stars" (oh my mercy!).  I hope everyone (especially those who need the prayers) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Low 40's and misty/light rain all day here.

Had to bail the basement last night, again this morning, and again when I brought lunch home to my wife.  The problem is the trap in my sewer line between the house and the city sewer line.  When we get lots of rain, the storm runoff washes sand and grit into the trap.  Seems like I have to clean the trap after every heavy rain.

Stopped by the hardware store on the way home and got 10' of 1/2" conduit.  I cut about 18" off of the end of my heavy drain snake and fastened it to the end of the conduit.  Now I've got a poking stick that will turn the corner in the trap.  Works OK too.  Got the drain cleared out and running again.  Ah, the joys of home ownership!

My missiles got here for my missile firing trail car, so I had to get it on the layout for some exercise.  The old car seems to have a little more range than the newer, similar re-issues.

Chief - I nicked my thumb four stitches worth in my sable saw some years back.  I found it frustrating because I kept finding out all the little things I used that thumb for during the day, that I could not do for a couple of weeks.  One entertaining thing about that episode was the doctor explaining how he would rather sew up knife cuts than saw cuts because they were easier - all in Indian accented English.  I'm thinking to myself  'just sew it up and send me on my way'.

Busy at work quoting new products.  It is a hassle, but encouraging.  We'll need to win some of these quotes to still have product to keep the plant running in a couple of years.

Later all.

Dennis - prayers for your Dad.  Prayers for Bob and for 8nT's wife and Jim's daughter, and other Jim's son, and all the rest who are in need.  May God heal our hurts and our hearts.

Still raining in St. Louis, but I think the biggest part of the storm is past us after 2 days.  Had a short chat wth RT (sorry man) and then with SJ and Jeffrey.  Said Hi to Doug, but got distracted and missed him.

Wife wanted to do some more family games.  Instead of Empire Builder, we broke into Iron Dragons tonight, another "crayon-rails" game, this one with elves, dwarves, etc.  It is very similar to Empire Builder.  They are both from Mayfair Games.

Tardis is ready and I think it's Patrick's turn to fly - a little dove sounds nice to me, and we know where there is some banilla for desert Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

 Hello all,

Never tried dove hunting. Haven't hunted small game in years. To many irons in the fire  Looking forward to Deer season. Monday after Thanksgiving here in PA. My son did bag a turkey last week one day. I never tried hunting them either.

I was at the Monroeville from 10:00 till 12;00 on Sunday. Crowd was average for a Greenburg Show. Unless the roads are bad I've been going to spring and fall  Monroeville show petty regularly for 20+ years. I've never been to the July show.

Bob, take care of the foot don't rush too much and hurt something.

Best head to bed 5:00 comes to soon

Prayers to all who may need them
