Hello all. Foot is doing much better. Got clearance from the podiatrist to go to work this Friday, still wearing my boot/sandal, but no crutches by then. Starting to drive a bit again. Said it was healing well and the biopsy came back fine. Very thankful for that. Saw my regular doc too (comes in pairs I guess?) and she agreed to take me off one of the meds for the esophageal spasms. Seemed to have some side effects and said if it hadn't worked by now it prob wouldn't. I seemed to be doing a bit better on the older combination. But at least she doesn't want to see me quite as soon, I guess that's a start.

8ntruck - hope the wife is doing better and they figure this out. Prayers for you and the family

Dennis - I was deeply touched when I read of the effort the local FD made. Continued prayers for you, your dad, and the family.

Fife - the yellow thing rising in the east is most likely the sunWhistling Could be Venus if it is in the early morning

Chief - hope the finger in better!

Had the 1615 and the FA Amtrak set running around at the same time today, not together yet but I'll start playing w/ switches tomorrow. Was a little disappointed to find the horn comes in the accessory B unit, ah, the need to accessorize instantly...Was amused to find it makes nearly the noise of the 2026 and that  the solid state transformer behaves a lot like the one 40 years older. The lights in the cars are cool though. The 1615 is everything I dreamed of. It is is very nice condition. E-unit was a little sticky at first, but then ran like a charm. I've had a thing for them since I saw the first pilot view. W/ two trains on the hardwood floor it is pretty noisy, but my eyes misted over. Never really had anything like this. A lot has been going on recently and I'm thankful that much is getting resolved. I continue to work on the rest and be thankful for times like these and friends like all of you.

Good Evening.  Philly, if it is two motors, can you wire them in series?  I know on the Williams GG1s, if you wire them that way, they run much slower and better.  Also, I live less than an hour from Camilla, if you ever find your way up again, give a shout.

Pat, love Dove hunting.  My favorite thing is to fry the Bre*st in butter, when done, put a little heavy cream in with the drippings and make a nice gravy.  Add some veggies and you have a meal.  With the pellets, you have plenty of iron tooWhistling  I do the same with quail...this is quail country after all.

Chief, that was some story.  Having driven through that storm and all the rain, I can see how it would get to be that high.

Spoke with Dad tonight.  He is having a tough time of it.  This will be his first night back on the job and I am sure it will be tough.  Should also be some good therapy to get something to focus on besides the loss.

Today was good, only one case for me, but the folks on call got slammed.  Tomorrow, we are going to do some shooting as part of our research for the movie.  This is the fun part...it is all part of the script writing.

Hope everyone has a blessed night.

 Hello all

Tried to get on over the week end and couldn't.

Still not able yesterday morning.

Not a lot of time lately. Corn is all picked.  I did go the the Greenburg Show in Monroeville on Sunday. Only thing bought was a Thomas T-shirt for each of the Grandkids

Best get to work.

Prayers for all who may need them

Time to go Dove hunting!

Pat

Have fun hope you get a bunch.  Good eating over the fireplace on a spit.

Thanks laz. A string of dove bre***s on the spit, on a cool evening, with dougdg wild turkey ( not the feathered one) sounds great. Or a Natty Boh would work. Banks picked the corn. We will hunt his field and invite him to the party.

Banks,

How was the crowd at the show Sunday? The place was packed on Saturday.

I went through the 332 this afternoon. I resoldered all of the connections at the plug and gave the rest a general cleaning and lube. While I was greasing the worm gear, I noticed that the armature would become tight in spots. The problem was that the crank on the left side was bent, and bending it out a bit eliminated the binding. It seems to be running and smoking strongly now.Thumbs Up

Good Afternoon,

Went up to Camilla GA for the weekend, left friday morning and got back yesterday at 6pm. Just a little get away before the holiday weekend, don't know if I will have off for Thanksgiving or not. Found an item or two for my train layout at a big yard sale on saturday.

Thursday I put a motor kit into an older Williams F-7 A unit, runs great but it also runs faster than either of my other two powered F-7 A units. The older F-7 units are wired straight to a bridge rectifier and not a circuit board, so there is a little more power to the motors that way plus I lost reverse & nuetral. Also had to drill out the rear hole in the step and brake bracket to nine/sixty-fourths of an inch so the bracket would mount to the new motor units.

Just got a horn unit from Bachmann to use in one of my diesel engines, will see how I like it in a few days.

Weather here is getting a little cooler, around 83 during the day for a high and near 70 overnight, need some more rain.

Have heard that FPL may give us a small rebate on our January electric bill, I will wait & see!

Ray, The museum will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but reopen on friday, the "Kid's Club" will be running the layout that day. Kids and sometimes trains change every hour.

Also the LEGO group should(?) be up and running for the Christmas Season thru mid Jan.

Morning all,

Chief, thanks for the video of water problems at Kerr Lake.  I got a call from sister in Suffolk, Virginia yesterday telling me about the storm problems in Southeastern Virginia.  She said they had flooding on the main street in Portsmouth, Virginia for a few blocks near the Elizabeth River. I think she said they had more than a couple of feet of water from rain and high tides.  In all my growing up years there, I never saw the water rise that much.  I heard stories from old timers about how the water was waist deep in the ferry terminal but that was probably back in the 30's or something.

I had an interesting evening last night.  My son and I went to a preview for invited guest of "A Holiday of Trains Festival" at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda, California.  I was honored to have  my prewar number 116 station displayed on the layout.  It is a very large layout built in layers like a birthday cake with trains running at a lot of different levels and several gauges with the Standard Gauge and G gauge in front gradually fading away from the viewer to HO in the most distant places.  There was also a very large Lego layout with many outstanding features including large skyscraper type buildings made from legos, suspension bridges, windmill farms etc etc and lots of trains.  The Chloe narrow gauge steam engine owned by the late Ward Kimball of Disney fame was also at the museum next to the presidential helicopter but was not displayed at the preview.  It will however be available for viewing starting today with the regular schedule.  Lots of refreshments including delicious cookies and coffee along with small "slider" hamburgers were served to the guest.  There was also live music provided in the White House East Room Replica at the Library.  Said hello to our TCA Western Division club president Wayne Shierff, Bob Lemberger and other club volunteers who were there to kick off the event with the press et al.  A good time was had by all.  The show will be open to the public starting today through January 6th I believe.

Doug Da grump, what is the schedule for the San Diego train museum in Balboa Park for the Thanksgiving weekend?  I will be in San Diego for the Dixieland Jazz festival from Nov. 26 to Nov. 28th and might drop by if I get a chance.

Spanky, more prayers for your Dad.  Hope things are getting better.

Have a good day,

Ray

Good afternoon all

A quick check in during lunch.

Jim – That is a very good price for a 332.  You did very well.  The 760 flashers are neat.  (do I sound like a broken record?).  Make sure you get the 697 trips, you’ll need two and the ones with the ceramic pads are better than the plastic ones when you can find them.

Got to go, may God bless

Jim

Morning all.  Fair and cool but not cold.  We have had one light frost and no freeze yet.  Off to Dr. to get big bandage off and finger checked.  The only good thing about this big bandage is protects the finger.  I bet I bag the little bandage and my the finger hurt.  Need to service my pickup before the rain comes tonight and tomorrow.  Speaking of rain, here is news article and video of Kerr Lake.

http://www.wral.com/weather/story/6432646/

Banks, glad you got your corn in without it being too wet.  No corn or beans combined here for a while.  Combine will not "stand up" on this wet ground.

Later.

Aloha from a grey and cool Chicago where it doesn't matter because it's 75 according to the locked thermometer in my office. I'm appearing friendlier by always leaving the door open and have super-short productive meetings because no one else can stand it in here. LOL. Had a Thomas moment crossing the Monroe bridge over the tracks when a Metra P36 and train blasted out from right under me. Woke me up. Then was the first customer in the State St. Fields nee Macys this morning to try to do a little holiday shopping before work. Chatted with the sullen clerk and seemed to perk her up a bit I hope. No class tonight. Have to start grading all four classes soon I guess. Have a good day.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy, rainy and cool in SE Indiana, but the wind is blowing most of the remaining leaves.....elsewhere.  I went to the YMCA last night to do weights, treadmill and soccer drills.  I cut down on the amount of weights, only did a half mile and very few soccer touches before I just gave up.  The body just hurt too bad and refused to move.  Maybe a coupld of days of downtime are what I need.  Did spend some time on Second Life talking to a civil war re-enactor.  Fascinating information.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL, and I can drive again after "V" (hope it gets better soon).  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Quick stop over on my way to do a case this morning.  Been reading up on all the posts I missed while in NJ.  A good number of new faces around.  It is a good thing.  Got some new ideas to add to the layout...I see why these things are never really done.  Hope it is a great day for all.

God Bless,

 Good Evening All !

Haven't been here for a few days, typically by the time I get around to turning on the computer, checking emails, forums, etc., then start to run out of gas!  Then try to think of something to post, and I can't think of anything that wouldn't bore everyone to tears.  So just read everything.  Also, realize that the longer it is between times I post the more difficult it is to come up with something.

Had a couple of interesting items tonight.  A guy I met last spring at a train show builds helix's for HO and N scale.  Asked him about O scale, he said he was wanting to get into it, so we talked a bit.  He subsquently came over, gave him a real good intro to O scale, and sent him away with a lot of information, a few sections of various curve track.  We also came up with a couple of designs for the train club, but that didn't work out.  (Club blew it.)  So he called last night and is going to have a booth at the upcoming Cal Stewart meet next weekend.  He has a O scale helix done, and will have it on display, and will be selling self assembly kits.  So going over to check it out Tues night.  The one he built is for 72" radius and has a 84" footprint.  Should really be interesting.  Will try to get some pictures.  Then he told me he names the products after someone or something that has inspired him to make it.

Been working with the shelves I put up last week, but ran into a small problem.  When mounting the uprights to the stucco walls, ended up with an error of 1".  Which has created a significant frustration.  I dont want to drill anymore holes in the wall, so trying to work around it.  Got the problem down to about a 1/4" I need o resolve.  (Problem is I want two levels of track on one shelf, the shelf supports interfere with the height of the cars.  Think I have a solution will know soon.)

Hope to meet up with Jon, while he is here.  Will just have to see what happens, we are hearing possibility of rain on Friday, hopefully forecast is in error.

Jim,

I am not sure where you are in Ohio, but if you are interested in making the trip for the show in February, let me know. There were 332s, and 336s at very reasonable prices, and I am sure they will be back in Feb. I saw my 332AC laying on the table, and that was it. My BP spiked as I frantically dug for my wallet. $360 later I've got the steamer of my dreams.  Big and impressive just doesn't do these locomotives justice.  I can't wait to run it on the Christmas layout.

I am looking for another item now. I really want a 760 Highway Flasher, and I passed on two at the show to get Doyle's book. Don't get me wrong, the book is great, but a 760 would be nicer.

Good Evening all

Busy as usual around here.

Spanky - Prayers for you Dad, I pray nothing serious come out of the fall

Jim - I can identify with FLyer addiction.  Looking at your 332 kicks the "GOTTA HAVE" into high gear.  I do have a couple of 592 crossing gates I want to restore.  Should not be too bad as they work well but the paint is shot.

Time to shower and off to bed.

May God bless

I could read the forum while the site was down for maintenance, but could not post. Not a matter of life or death, so it is no biggie.

Started out low 60's and cloudy on Saturday and deteriorated from there.  Sunday was 50's and rain, today was 40's and more rain.  So far so good, as the drains have not backed up in the basement.

Picked up a rechargeable electric lawnmower at a reasonable end of season price.  Mowed my yard and my neighbor's open lot of his double lot with the mower in mulching mode on Saturday.  Still had charge to spare when I was done.  Looks like it is going to work OK.

Spanky - prayers for your dad.

Got my missile firing trail car disassembled and cleaned up.  The latches work a little better.  The latches need gravity to make them work.  Think I'll add some small springs to help gravity along.  The repop missiles I have ordered ought to be showing up about Wednesday.  Guess I'll have something new to post on SPF.

Picked up more meds for my wife today at lunch.  She is doing better, but still not able to go back to work this week.  MRI scheduled for Thursday.  This should give direction for further treatment.

Aerotrain and maiden rescue are supposed to ship in November.  Hopefully.....

Later, guys.

Evenin' Boyz & Girlz,

Busy week end, still trying to find nooks & crannies to stash the halloween stuff. Think I finally got it all put away.

D.J., Angel for your Pop.

Jon, Glad to hear that all went well. According to the weather guessers it is supposed to very pleasant for the rest of the week, warm days/cool evenings. Actually had to turn on the furnace for a bit this morning, 40*. I'll be working the museum on friday and saturday, lots of people heading to Pasadena for CalStewart so we are a bit short on operators this weekend.

Let me know when you want the museum tour and/or run time.

Gotta go check on the pasta for dinner, later all.

Good Evening

Prayers for Spanky's dad, hope he has a speedy recovery.

Well my will power let me down today, went after the 0-8-0 and for a hundred more left with the whole set. Plus a K-Line NYC girder bridge and a 1/43 Ford woody. Some days just go like that don't they. Oh well it was worth the extra hundred bucks. Banilla is ready and waiting for the Tardis....S.J.

Spanky, prayer has been said for your Dad.  Glad you are able to make the trip to handle things.  Hope all goes well for a speedy recovery.

Rich, sounds like you had a good time in Devil's country.  One of my best friends is a Neward FD Batt. Chief.

Jon, have a great trip out west.  San Diego is one of my and my wife's favorite destinations.  Next meeting I get out that way, will certainly look up Doug to visit and take in the club layout.
