Good morning all, Well today is my birthday.  I am 73 years young.  I did'nt think I would last this long but I am grateful to still be here.  Need to order an N scale caboose for grandson who's birthday is on the 17th.  His Dad already got him an engine and his uncle got some cars.  I tried to get him started in O gauge but he does not have the room for a year round layout.  He still runs the Lionels at Christmas though on a carpet central line.

Meeting tonight with church social group.  Hope we don't get wet.  Rain is forcast off and on.  We got a little this morning.  Just enough to water the lawn but we need every drop.

Need to work on layout today and get bugs out of track.  Found one station track yesterday that needed a better ground.  The DCS signal was not getting through on that line for some reason.  Engines did not respond to controller.  Tried a temporary ground and it worked better.  Have to hard wire it today with solder and wires.

Giving a good work out to my newly repaired ACL E6 engines.  So far they are running fine.

Have a good day,

Ray

Afternoon all,

Just a quick check in during lunch.

Jim – As far as I know the earlier 736 had an operating door on the “back” side.  The 936 may have the non-operating door.

David Doyle has a book that is really good.  They regularly show up on eBay.  List is ~ $32 but I’ve seen them go regularly under $20.  It is comprehensive of O HO and S American Flyer stuff.

Fife – Thought of you several times while at Mickey World when I saw flamingos!

Jim F – For cut like on stairs I would get cardboard boxes and using the cardboard make a template then transfer it to the rock.

Lunch is over

May God bless

Jim

Morning guys - furnace guy just left.  Waiting for a call back to see when we are taking our son to the doctor today.  I hope it's early - want to get a couple pieces of drywall and finish that wall today anyway.  It will be a pain to cut as it's on the stairs.  Maybe run the trains in a little while too Smile  Be back later - ttfn!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 52 degrees. Only going up to 60 today with cloudy skies.

Today is a less busy day. I have a few things to do, around the house. Then, I will take it easy. Not much else new here.

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Aloha all. Sunny and cold today - below freezing for the first time since .. .April. Why do I live here? Brutus, I think my son has the flu too. Anyway, he's staying home from school today. Hope my bride is fighting it off. The youngest and I are still fine. Long day today with class tonight - I'll be looking for my train ride companions tonight/

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 52 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Please, wipe your feet before coming inside...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Spent some time on the layout last night.  Taught fifepup how to use a soldering iron, and showed him how to solder wires to the spot relays we are using for our color position lights.  Only burnt one of my fingers.

Happy Tuesday!

Up to 85 again, had thunderstorms blow through last night, it’s gray and damp now.

Got daughter to dance last night, watched the Devils beat the Washington Capitals in a shootout.  Good win for the Devs.  Giants laid a beating on the Raiders Sunday and the Yankees swept the Twins.  So, sporting wise, everything is good.

Not much on the train front, lost out on a bid for a 4-4-2 engine/tender for a layout I’m building, so back to the ‘bay for another shot.  Might try choo choo auctions.

OK – see ya in a while.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s for the last good day of weather for a while.  Ugh, I have to go back to the YMCA again now that soccer season is "officially" over (note to newcomers and those of you playing the 'home' version of the 'pot:  the season is "officially" over when "my" soccer girls have played their last game of the year).  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it to "Points West".  TBIL, and the suspension "bugs" appear to be fixed.  Rock steady down the straightaways and just a touch of understeer in the turns.  Rather have that than the tail come around on me :-)   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Just a quick one before I turn in. New glucose meter numbers are noticibly higher. Not crazy like, but enough to keep an eye on. Strips are fairly inexpensive so I won't mind using more of them.

Howdy guys - well, son has the flu, his friends were diagnosed with it.  I'll take him to the doctor tomorrow.  Hey Bob - glad you are back in the saddle/pueblo!  10 days after we were told that all the test results were in, the caseworker at BCBS has not received the documentation from SLUH.  We checked today.  My wife will be calling tomorrow until she gets through to a person Banged Head  It's just going on and on and on Sad

Well, today I got the cement wall down the stairs firred out - drilled, glued and screwed, then put in some of that pink foamboard - it's tough to get it to fit though - the firring strips were not exactly straight.  I think I'll just cut what will fit for the rest tomorrow and fill in around any gaps when I put up the drywall - use a little spray foam or just scraps.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going - my back is a little tight, so Mike you are welcome to drive.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Don,

        I sent you a message.

I got all of the track cleaned tonight, so I decided to start putting trains on the tracks when I noticed a problem. The sixth loop in is banked toward the outside, which has caused some derailments.Banged Head I need to figure out how to fix this before going any further. I am hoping that I don't need to tear everything up. I quit for the night out of frustration and watched the original Holiday Affair. Now that I have the madison cars from the reissue of the GG1 set, I can finally recreate Crowley's Red Rocket Express this Christmas.Big Smile

Good Evening

48 degrees.

I visit several train forums each day but there is one I do not read at all. Nothing but trash talk there. A respectable run forum would not allow that sort of talk.

Well suprise, granny actually found a blouse she liked today and bought it. Banilla and root beer ready for the thingy so come on board...S.J.

Good Evening everyone.  Well, as happens a lot, day didn't go quite as planned.  Did go in and take care of paperwork.  Also was able to compile a list of things lost in the cabin fire.  When I left, all was good, but before I could make it to the house, I got called back for a emergency.  Patient is doing well, but we may have to work on him in  a few days...depends how things go.  I also learned that one of the folks from work is leaving.  Very good guy, both personally and skill wise.  He is going to Greenville, SC.  Has family up that way.  Happy for him, but it is a loss for our institution.

On other fronts, I find it interesting that we have a thread on how nice it is over here...and it is.  But at the same time, we have some from another forum trying to start an issue.  For those who are new here, please don't let a couple of bad apples spoil the pot over here for you.  Some folks like to roam and cause trouble.  Best to not give them an audience and let them go away.  I have met a number of folks in person from this forum and without question, it is a great group to associate with.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 60s.  Soccer season is offficially over as "my" soccer girls lost their sectional game 3-0, which was an improvement over the five goal losses in the regular season. I took it easy today, balancing checkbooks and writing notes of encouragement to the girls before the game.  Sunday was a long day, but everyone reacted ok to dad's new girlfriend.  I did run the Alaska set for the grandkids.  The youngest grandson really enjoys it.  Watched "Desperate Housewives" after everyone left.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL, and I can drive.  I hope the suspension is checked out.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Back here in the Ol' Pueblo for a few days. Supposedly we assemble and take the subreflector back up later this week. First of course we have to figure out the brake issue. Should be entertaining.

Landowner came by to fix a crack in the stucco. Trimed some more of the bushes that were in the way and finally built something to contain the water around the grapefruit tree (now that summer is over of course). Landowner's other half fell while hiking and broke her leg in two places and her foot, while in Canada. Heard from another friend who fell off a ladder at work. Broke both feet and one leg. Watch out for the leg stuff I guess. Going to be extra careful on the scaffold.

Steve - great score on the car! When my Toyota died when I was in school I picked up a 78 Ford Grenada w/ only 33K miles. Bright green throughout but first car I had where the engine hadn't come out for work, I didn't need to take it out, and didn't need it when I sold it.

Brutus - hope you got the Ins. worked out. Still thinking and praying for you.

Jim - I second the 2026 as a good smoker especially w/ the Anormal Fluid

Was vaguely surprised the fried octopus comment didn't get any attention:)

So next Monday a follow up w/ my Doc, then another session w/ the Diabetic Education Center (watch the CVS Truetrack meter, tends to run low and just picked up another), and then an MRI of my foot. Should be fun.

JIM,

You could also do a roll away like the ones on a computer desk, for the rollaway key board.  The only thing you would have to purchase is two slides.  And of course make it a bit deeper to accomadate the trasformers and such.  That might be the better way to go?

Laz,

I'll have to consider what you said about the roll away. I have plenty of 2x4s left due to a mistake in the benchwork plans, so the amount of wood needed isn't an issue. I am also considering hanging a small shelf from the underside of the layout. I'll need a small control panel on the side of the layout for the two Flyer 16B transformers, but the main panel would be too big to put on the side.

Oh my, but the local Columbus day parade was fun: lobster trucks, Irish band, politicians and ... Ernest Borgnine... only in Chicago.

JIM,

For your controlls you could do a roll away.  Where you roll your power sources under the layout then when you want, roll it out for use.  Just a thought.

Jim,

I've been lucky with the 650s and 651s because they all have the cast frame. Are there any good reference books for Flyer? I am currently scratching my head due to a 736 cattle car body variation. I thought all of the bodies were molded red plastic and all doors were movable. The body that I got to replace the damaged red one is painted tuscan over that cream colored plastic that Gilbert used around 1950. The strange thing is that the door on the non operating side is part of the body, and there are no door guides. The holes for the door guide pins aren't present either, so I doubt that it was modified. There is no evidence of filling or touch up.

I did more work on the layout yesterday. All of the track is screwed down, and I have almost all of it cleaned. I need to figure out where to mount the TIUs and their power supplies. I want to avoid having a big control panel sticking out from the side of the layout this time around. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Morning all!

Yesterday, after Church we went donut eating...we picked a few apples too.  Bride made apple sauce, with a friend of hers.

Saturday spent the afternoon riding with my neighbor.  We found a few trains that were running small excursions, with open gondolas, out of Techumse, and one that ran year round dinner mysteries in Blissfield, MI.  Also found a model railroad group in Blissfield, MI, but it was closed.  They run trains on the 3rd weekend of the month...We plan to go back next weekend.

Saturday, also found out a different neighbor decided to leave his Bride of 23 years.  He's been spending time with a married friend of his, and they both decided they would be happier together, destroying 2 marriages and families...both have children.  Prayers for both families are appreciated.  Also have 2 other neighbors selling their homes, as they can't find jobs.  Busy weekend around our house.

SPMan - I have been "shaken" down while railfanning twice in PA.

Ravens laid a big egg today.

Yeah but when they see your ID( Badge) it does a lot of talking that our plain ID wouldn't even begin to.

Hey all nice day off have to work tomorrow but then 8 days off. ( yes I take vacation time at a weird time compare to most but I like it this way.

Was talking to boss friday and she mentioned that I really need to look into putting in for at least 4 weeks off next year spread out over the year so come next Dec/Jan( 10/11) I won't lose any of mine for having over 240 hours of vacation time. Whistling we sat down an figured that I earn 208 a year so with what I have I still would end up with like 171 hours come the end of next year if I took 4 weeks off.

not to much else happening around here getting ready to make a run to PA on the 15th,16th,and back on the 17th. not going to make york either as no time as much as I would love to seeing I'm going to be right there basicly just out side of Lancaster. Sigh

Talk to you all later. Hey Pat maybe you and I can do it in the spring. Could pick you up on the way and drop you off at your motel. ( I goto brothers house ) and then get you in the morning to goto the show. Heck maybe chief would be there too. You know laz and john will be and maybe fife and 88

Well later all

RT - Sounds like the beginnings of a plan! I may need my truck, what with the long wait to go to York and Buy. Seeing (and meeting) you, the chief, John,  fife and 88 would be a real bonus!

Aloha all. Busy weekend - started with an evening of train running. Saturday was cold - soccer and a big anniversary celebration at church. Sunday I ran around like an idiot painting bare trim and the garage door - it was probably too cold but I feel better having it done. Middle boy's been sick all weekend - just sleeping. Doesn't sound like a flu yet. Grey and cold here again. Good thing the office is about 90 - lol! The bride is going out again tonight so I'll hopefully run trains again.

Good Morning from chilly Southern Ohio

Off for Columbus Day and I am going to daughter’s in Cincinnati to help with a project.  Loading up the truck with a few things.

Don – Too bad about the van.  Is a motor swap out of the question?

Jim – The 650’s have a real appeal to them.  They were around for several years with three variations in the frame, diecast, sheet metal, and plastic.  All of mine are the diecast, at this point.

Got to go

May God bless

Jim
