BTW: scuppernong grape vines [two together] are hanging. Massive bunches. The oldest has never made many grapes. It is just hanging full. Not quite ripe yet.

Glad to see things looking a little better. Doesn't take much to find a worse situation somewhere, especially today!
What I thought was a small problem to fix on the layout, mushroomed into a bigger one, did get it fixed though.
(Problem: After I had put in my crossing guards, and they were all working great. Noticed with my big Cab Fwd, that when it would cross the area where the guard was, it would uncouple! Well that's no good! Then I also noticed that Track A and B were no longer electrically isolated. So obviously that had to be due to the switchgate. I had multiple isolated rail sections on both sections A and B. So figured that must be the cause of the problem. Essentially the signal lights were being controlled by a 12vdc relay. The relay is activated by when a car bridges across the isolated section, the 12vdc (-) is completed, activating the relay. Then the signal gates get the power from a dedicated xformer that runs the lights. The relay contact closes the negative leg, and the gate motor, and switch operate. So I ASSUMED, that maybe the negative 12vdc upon initiation was createing a carrier current that would cause the coupler to fire. Problem 1.
Problem 2, was both main lines were "on" if either switch was turned on. So thought that was due to the isolated track sections going to a common "ground" location as a result of the switchgate. So, I went through seperated all the ground leads, thought I might have to use 2 relays. Nothing changed. Started, dismantling track, (I had lifted various sections previously and soldered wires onto the bottom of the isolated sections.) I had two cabooses on the main sections to see if one would go off. Never did. Then I thought I must have "jumpered" a couple of track sections together (A-B), which would cause the bypass. Couldn't find it. Then was going to start tearing up more, then I thought it was strange that of the 2 crossover points I had. One of them did NOT have the center rail isolated between the 2 switches. Shouldn't be that way, but dont think that would be causing the problem. Removed the center pin, and problem resolved !! Track A and B completly isolated.
Now, back to the coupler issue, only occurs with the one engine, and at slow speed. As I played around with it more and more, incl tender only. The coupler would only open at very slow speed, and one direction. Finally, I think it is due to "critical" spaceing over the isolated section of the switch. Actually only when one roller is dead, and the other roller is on the transistion between the two legs of the switch. So I think I will just accept that. And make sure it is running at a minimial speed.)
So that was my day.
Don
Aloha all. Haven't checked the computer for a few days - catching up. Sir J, sending some showers your way. Had a good weekend working through some relational things with the bride and prepping the daughter for college. Good church day. Baptisms at the lake next week.Mike C, sorry to hear that - is there a rec league in your town? Ours (fall / spring) is always looking for coaches - younger kids, skill building... might be worth asking around.

Evening all!
Back from a bike ride with the kiddos! They're finally getting the peddling!
First time in 'Church' in a long time, as I have been running sound with the kids. Pastor asked everyone to read Acts last week. 2-admitted to reading it...one was the Pastor's Bride. He quizzed the other guy, and gave him $50 for his efforts!
Spent some time weathering barrels for a windmill project.
Doug: I think there must be something with the phase of the moon...us too. Big boom Saturday...Bride want's me to get a part time job to suppliment. So I submitted a few resumes and made some calls to friends.
If anyone has a lead on some AutoCAD drafting work, nights and weekends, I can do that. I have 12+ years in Commercial/Retail Architecture, before I quit to be a stay-at-home Dad.
Motorcycle is on hold, for bit. Class is still on, but bike is on hold. Beacon is on!
Kurt
Mike C - sorry to hear about your set-back, but I'm sure the guys are right and something better will come along, hang in there man!
Good luck on a job, Kurt!
8nTruck - great pics, thanks!
Patrick - hope you did get rain, we did today. It pounded down for a while, but cleared off pretty soon.
Some kind of bugs ate on me yesterday while I was helping wire a boat. Have a few big red welts that are tender. Buddy put in primary and back up anchor and nav lights on 2 different switches. The back-ups can be put away in benches or folded down when not used. Also, he put in courtesy lights, bilge pump for water to livewells, and headlights for docking at night. After we wired the console and remembered to hook up the battery, everything worked. He also had rope lights around the underside of the boat (pontoon boat). Turn them on and everything dies! He has an auto-breaker but it wasn't popped and should have reset anyway. Looked around and found the problem - he had a 40 amp fuse on the hot side on the battery just in case and it was blown. Now, why didn't the 20 amp breaker blow? Our guess is there is a short on the common side somewhere. Oh well, it was 7 PM and I needed to get home last night while it was still light out. I don't like to drive in the dark, especially if I'm tired.
Today was a lazy day. Did laundry and some friends came over to show off their new puppy. Then, we went out to eat dinner early, or lunch late, at Olive Garden. Eggplant Parm was great
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Been trying to watch a western "On Demand". Went to sleep and re-started it three times. I give up. Good night and sleep tight.
Good morning all,
It will be an interesting day in SE Indiana with lots of thunderstorms predicted. Work will be busy. Worked on a LEGO building last night. The ride on the Tardis was good last night. Good times, good friends, a good way to kick back and forget about life for a while. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before I sent them to "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
dbaker48- Don, if the coupler problem continues you can try the fix of adding a non-polar capicitor across the leads for the coupler coil. E-mail me if you need details, my notes aren't handy at the moment.
What a fast, fun, draining three days. Kids rolled in from MPLS Friday night, the best State Fair in the land on Saturday, smoked ribs/beans Sunday noon, kids left at 2:30 and more family showed up at 4:30 for another cook out and TRAINS!!! They brought along Grandpa (from FL) whom we have never met but loves trains, one of the 3 year old twins hit a switch into a siding and we did have a pretty good pile up, nothing damaged but their Grandpa had a good talk with the boy because the parents just stood by. Parents need to be parents, what a novel idea. It was fun to run the trains and they just loved it, kinda stressful for us as when we had the open house in July the parents were tremendous and that's what we expected this time, oh well.
It was a great weekend but I am glad it's Monday and it's just me at home I think the boss was glad to go to work this morning.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Morning. MEETINGS!! County Commissioners' this afternoon and Mayors' Assoc. tonight. Think I am heading to the pond to weedeat the bank before getting ready to go to CC meeting. Both guys that have been helping me weedeat are not able right now. All have a great week.
Good Morning
At 8 AM, the temp and humidity were the same, 78.
Sct. showers expected most of the week.
Kurt sorry to hear that you may have to get a job, and yes I know being a house husband is work too.
Big breakfast this morning. Eggs, bacon, western style hash browns, and toast. No plans for this morning, y'all have a great day....S.J.
What am I doing wrong? On nice days, my work keeps me inside. On blistering hot days or sub-zero cold days, my work takes me outside. Today is is heading for the 90's, and I'm out looking at asphalt.
Back from the lake. We had the guys that I fish with over for supper.

Afternoon All.
Nice day here today, very pleasant temps.
Just looked at the Lionel Christmas catalog, only one item kinda caught my interest. Looks as if the Hogwarts/Kinslet Hall loco is being issued in Christmas colors as the "Santa Flyer" with an electronic whistle.
I'm not about to touch that last line in Buckeye's post.
Evening guys, Was a good day. Did a five vessel bypass on someone and all went very well. Had the new guy in there to watch me. At the end of the case, I explained why I do things the way I do and how it prevents some of the issues he has had. Don't want to put someone down, but do want the guy to learn.
Mike, also may want to check with your area churches. We have a "Upwards" program that has basketball, soccer, football, etc. They are always looking for coaches and it is not about putting others down, real life lessons for the kids.
Buckeye, I don't ever have a change in work environment. Room stays at a cozy 52 degrees. Never rains, no wind, just the occasional spray of body fluids. Oh, and you can only wear a department issued pair of scrubs which is like wearing pajamas made out of light canvas. Every once in awhile, the AC shuts down and you have to work in steamy sweat. We miss the beautiful spring and fall, but also miss the cold and heat extremes. One other thing, sometimes, you go in, its dark, go home, dark again. There are days that you never see the sunshine.
I'm not complaining, if I didn't like what I do, I'd do something else. Hope everyone has a blessed day. Currently I have two extra kids as I am watching my kids and our friends boys while the ladies go to the movies. Ladies night out.
God Bless,Dennis

Good Evening from Blueberryhill....
It was a hot day. 92 degrees. Sunny. It is still hot outside.
Today was busy. I ran a couple of errands. Did some cleaning of my roll top desk. Lots of collected junk. Looks like a rainy rest of the week. That's good for running trains. Planning a few changes to the layout this winter.
Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great evening.
Chuck
dwiemer Buckeye, I don't ever have a change in work environment.
Dennis....One thing when I traveled from the Upper Pennisula to Southern West Virginia just about every year, I could easily see the seasons change. As a farmer, construction workers know about weather changes.
We authorized the contractor to spend $200 K today because of wet subsoil conditions that wiggled like jello. The majority of the roadway failures in this part of the country are due to poor drainage with freeze-thaw added in for good measure.
DougM....Ignore Doug with the Number 2 zoo in the country.
Wes.....Need to have breakfast this week.
Wednesday through Friday work for me. Just shoot me an email...
Another nice day but we need some rain. It happened again, rain coming right at us just disappeared.
Banilla is waiting so Brutus come on by in the thingy.
Good evening,
Had a CT scan today and the doctor just called me with the results. All is well. It was another hot one here, 91, but not as humid as predicted and a little breeze was blowing.Tomorrow is my day at the PA RR Museum and it will be hot there as well, no AC and so I will be outside as much as possible. Have a shady spot that catches the breeze where I can greet the visitors.
Evening all. Back from meetings.

One County Commissioner, Paul Coble, read from tapes and transcripts of the meetings that Wake County Schools staff influnced some of the Commissioners to vote yes on this site. He opened with, "I quote Mayor Eagles by saying I told you so." Now lets see what happends.
Now for a rest. Had big rain storm this afternoon right after I left County Commissioners. Was washing away all the bad "stuff" the Wake County Schools had said.
Good night.
Big storms here and looks like more for the next two days. Traffic was a mess coming home due to the heavy rain and runoff on the highway. Wife's hemoglobin was down to 7 so she will get a transfusion on Wednesday. Gave Chewy a bath tonight and talked trains with Jeffrey, Sir James and Charlie. Tardis is ready, so better get going, have to get up early tomorrow! TTFN!
Started out hot & muggy here this morning. The downpour at lunchtime (just as I pulled into the plant parking lot) cooled things off a little. More rain forcast for the next few days.
Anybody out there ever try drying tomatoes? I've got bunches of ripe romas that would be good candidates.
Monday. New part number on the schedule. Changeover into the new part did not start until 3pm. Fortunately, all went well and I was home by 7pm - just in time for another 'Lost' evening. This was the episode where Ben moved the island.
The local hobby shop moved into a new building downtown. Looks good. We were talking about where in the store the layout will be. I'm trying to talk him into an early 60's style demo layout, maybe the over/under 'dad & lad' O/HO layout.
Later all.
