WOW!!!  Sidney is getting a bath.  I got out of shower and weather alert went off.  Seems out of no where and un-predicted thunderstorm came up and is hitting Roseyville.  All my watering is being washed with strong down pours and lightning.  Worse T'storm we have had this year.  Thank you Lord.  We needed the rain.  It is pouring.  Good night.

Sunny & low 80's today.

97Probe - creepers can be fun.  Friend of mine got a ride on his when the 1/2" drill he was using grabbed.  Round & round until the cord wound up and pulled out of the wall!

Not much else - later, all.

Good evening

Well the rain showed up about two hours ago. Not much more than a shower. Got my running done this morning and have done little else since. So have some banilla and rootbeer with me and we will wait for  the Tardis...S.J.

Hello all,

Pat, a local truck farmer uese a propane cannon to repel deer. It can be set to regularly shoot. It can also be adjusted for how loud.

Sir James. Get some 22 cal. CB caps. They will do in a rabbit with little more noise than a pellet gun.

Dwiemer. Thanks for the reminder to remember our fallen public servants

Buckeye --  sorry about the momentary lapse in addressing the Roseyville Rascal.  For some odd reason I can't call him Chief, just seems wrong.  On your second thought --  prohibition has NOT been lifted in Iowa except in Johnson County, home of the Iowa Hawkeye's, and you know what kinds of dread that has brought to that community Banged Head  I'll try and be more judicious in my future salutations.

Sheeesh! Wallaby issues one minute----Deer issues the next!!

Wallaby might taste good but I'm not sure it is really game meat----OOPS!! Did I say that a little too loud?Shock

BTW-- the one thing that I know about Wallaby is that they hide REAL GOOD---they'll hide ANYWHERE

As for Deer----OK, I use a compound bow when hunting---if in season, that is. The only thing I found that worked was an ultrasonic beeper that a friend uses when up in cottage country near Algonquin Park. 'Spring'---the little black/white in my avatar---scared the bejabbers out of one that got a little too close to the back screen patio door one night. All I saw was this furball fly at the screen and then heard this crashing sound from the deck---I ran to the door and saw this deer just booking it over the back fence----meanwhile there was 'Spring' hanging off the screen going ---"Meh? Mc--Mc--Mc--"---clicking away to no one now that the deer was gone--Smile,Wink, & GrinWhistling

I'm having a Molsons to honor all of you-----and to honor Karl Maldens memory RIP

OK experts, Do you think Irish spring might keep rabbits away? We have a major problem, they love our garden. Certain types of flower buds, plant leaves and green pepper plants. No I CANNOT use a 22, we live within the city limits and that is a major offense.  S.J.

Make that two Molsons.  I love exploring Canada.  It is a fascinating land with great people who know how to fish.

Hope they can finally help you learn how to fish.  I've been trying for years and some people, you just can not help. Laugh

Hot walk in the park with Lucy.  No wallaby.  Several folks from Vet's office and interested parties are there hoping he will hop by.  They think he is just hiding very well.  I think he may have hopped away from there and is somewhere else.  May be at my pond.

Pat, I'm the Irish Spring solution.  Just throw them on the ground around the area you do not want deer in.   Replish if they melt away.

Sorry about the wrong credit. If I use the Irish Spring can I expect to look out the window and see this?

With all the discussion about MY neighbor, thought I better give an update.  In the past two months she has "moved out" on at least two occassions, but ends up back within a week or so.  The pickup trucks aren't coming around so much anymore, there are instead a limo and SUV that park a block or so away and people walk up.  The Mercedes that parked in the driveway has disappeared.  The strobe lights have been off most of the time.  But occassionally will still hear some hammering going on.  I also noticed that they have put up an outside light, which is on an extension pole, (maybe a Tardis signal?)

Then last night !!!!!!!!!  Need to get the Tardis in for some maintenance, with all the commotion Patrick created, there are pieces of shatter proof glass all over the place!  Bushes have been trampled, and other neighbors talking about all the "Mooing" heard all night long.  And a lot of neighborly tension!  Wonder if this had anything to do with it............

My bulls saw this picture and want tickets to California. Maybe we can take them tonight on the Tardis, if my clone didn't do permanent damage to it last night.

Doug - Do you put the chunks of Irish soap on the ground, hang them from branches or put shavings on the leaves? What is the spacing of the chunks, say around a group of blueberry bushes?

A rather somber day today folks.  Back in on this day in 1988, we lost five firefighters that I worked with.  I have seen death up close too often, but when it happens to folks you know, right in front of you, and every effort is dashed, it is tough.  Myself and another guy did save one guy, but that is nothing when you loose 5 others.  While tomorrow is my son's birthday, that does give me a positive to look forward to, while keeping the memory of the guys who died in my thoughts and heart.  Every year, they have a memorial service, but living where I do now prevents me from getting up that way most times.  Still, it is good to take a moment and remember some of the bravest who put their lives on the line.

God Bless,

Dennis

Pat, Isn't that commercially produced "Coyote Urine" stuff supposed to keep deer away.

Coyote Urine didn't work for me. It may attract amorous CoyotesWhistling, but it didn't stop the deer.

I have tried several liquid repellents, but none worked, at least not more than a few days.

I have tried sprinklers, ultrasonic waves, wireless deer fence, Etc. The wireless deer fence does work some what, but requires the deer to come up to the post for a good smelling taste and get zapped. You have to place them four feet apart and it takes to many of them.

What works the best for me is my "radio deer  control system". This is simply a 24 Hr talk radio station on a radio I place under a 10 Gal galvanized bucket. Works great except when the radio drifts off the station and I don't catch it.Sigh That's what happened last night.

 Pat

Chunks of Irish Spring soap.  Works great,  Learned it from the lady that keeps up the hostas and flowers at the Ponderosa entrance.  As the lake house is a deer haven, Pam's flowers and my grape vines were being raided.  Put out chunks of Irish Spring.  No more nibbles.  Neighbor had the same problem.  Gave her a bar of Irish Spring and she now has no problem.  Last week, deer in her yard and mine but plants not eaten.   Word is, it gets in their nose and they can't smell so they stay away.

Now I know why the wife ignores me, guess it's either change soap or stop showering ! Clown

NEWS FLASH!!!!!

Roesyville has been named the fastest grown town in NC again.  2007, 2008 and now 2009.  All this while bounty hunters verge on the Town to capture a Wallaby running aloose in its Main Street park [right across from the Mayor's Mansion].  $500 reward is offered by owner.   Wally escaped from the Vet's office around noon.  A "drag net" searched the area for a couple of hours.  This included the TV 11 chopper.  No sighting since about 12:15 EDT.  Mayor and Lucy are headed into the jumgles of the park to see if she can corner the critter.  Will update later.

Interesting how one Wallaby and a few bounty hunters can raise a town's population so it becomes the fastest growing town in the stateWhistlingWinkBig Smile

I wander if the Mayer and Lucy are using the golf cart? Bringing the Wallaby out on the golf cart would make for an interesting picture.Approve

Mornin' All.....

Beginning to wake up a bit, how in the world can going to the museum to run trains be so exhausting. Hate to wish for the white fluffy stuff for you guys up north but I'll be very happy when summer is over and the club members are all back from vacations for normal staffing needs.

Had a rail break on a turnout yesterday, those Y6b's can sure create a lot of sparks when they straddle several tracks. Oops Fortunately nothing was permanently damaged, just clean-up the rail and ties and a bit of epoxy all is well with the world. Now to order a replacement/back-up turnout, repaired section is fully functional but for how long.

Hope you guys won't be in need of any new car repair parts for awhile. The wife's PT Cruiser has a headlight/foglight switch going bad and there are currently no replacement parts available. As a result of the shutdown existing inventories were depleted and new inventories of parts are TBA, national backorder with no delivery dates.

Almost finished re-assembling my 4th of July train, mostly the same as last years with a few additions & some minor changes.

Pat, Isn't that commercially produced "Coyote Urine" stuff supposed to keep deer away.

Angel for those in need. Thumbs Up

Seems like there was something else, but I forgot. Confused CRSS strikes again, Can't Remember Stuff Syndrome. Whistling

$2.27 is so cheap!  $2.90 here in cold, drizzly Illinois. $3.03 in Honolulu...Rats, after fixing up the new office, now I got to take it apart so they can replace the windows...
