RT, all I see is s NS diesel. Whistling

It is so humid, you can go outside and stand still and sweat.

Garden growing.  Just finished picking.  Tobacco in the field around the back fence [you can see in picture] is growing so fast you can watch it move upward. Shock

Chat later.

I guess it's how Ohioians do it!  After a few decks, you learn not to cover the top of the spindles with a board unless you like spending the summer removing wasp nests...

Sounds like the dang things up here---except they like to place their nests in leaning garages that get taken down----with attendent screams coming from those just discovering the nest(s)---

 Good afternoon,

SJ, sorry I missed the big day, but a little late Happy B-Day.  Now you have caught up to me for a short time.

Mitch, Happy 30th.  It's been quite a while since we visited Shady Maple, Son & family were just there this week, his wife's boss treated her whole department for having great sales this spring (farm equipment parts). Looks like some businesses are doing well.

Jim, Prayers for your wife that all works out well.

Nice decks guys.  Last one I built was about 20 years ago at our beach place at the time.

May not get back on  before the weekend, so all have a great one.

Another warm day here in the Ol' Pueblo, but looks like we may have rain in store for the weekend. Well they just told me to stop taking one of the medications so so far so good. Still fairly darn tired at times, but I think we are getting there. Imaging tomorrow so we will see where that goes.

Had an overnight camping trip on the schedule for this weekend, but I am still playing that by ear. Would be good to get out of the house but I'm supposed to meet a friend from Phoenix area on the north side of the Catalinas and not sure I want to drive that far. I've been trying to limit my automotive forays.

Wes and Greg the decks look nice. We don't see too much of that around here. Was as Builder in the Seabees and while wood is not my best subject, I do appreciate nice work. Chief - that garden and yard of yours looks great. I have just one question for you guys: what is all the green stuff on the ground?

Afternoon.  Been resting up.  Wake up at 6 AM and had bells ringing in my ears [well that was how it sounded] and head was drunk.  Back to bed and slept till 8:30.  Still undtable but no ringing.  Think it is sinus thing.  Ate tomato sandwiches [from the garden] for brunch.  Several cups of coffee and feel some better.  Clouds and sun.  Have now had 2.25+ inches of rain.  Hoping it will dry before 3 PM [haircut] so I can mow.  Got to go to lake house and mow too.  Garden is jumping and tomatoes are growing bigger and bigger.

Wes and Greg, I will buy materials and you two come and build screened in porch on to lake house.  Promise to give you room and board. Smile

Glad to see another buddy from across the pond posting too.

Got to run.  Have a good one.

PS: how about some photos

Morning all,

Chief, that sounds like a good meal.  I like spinach but we did not have it growing up in the South where I lived.  I guess it was because we only ate what vegetables we grew in the garden and that was'nt one of them.  We had collard greens and things like that.  Those traction tires must have been on an older engine if it was MTH.  The newer ones have screws on the side frames of the trucks that can be removed without taking off the engine shell.  The traction tire thing can be a real headache on some engines, especially steam.  I hate to have to take a whole engine apart just to change the lousy tire.  Some people are talking about this Bullfrog Snot lately to replace tires but I don't know if that would fill up the groove in the wheels.  That stuff looks pretty thin.

Morning all!

Another hot one today. Partly sunny.

Our train club will be working a 4x8 portable layout for the Museum of American RR Kigs Fest on Saturday. This is a fun event. They also run a small steam caliope and have a rack of steam loco whistles that they let the kids blow. They use an old passenger diesel loco steam generator to make the steam. Looks like it will be nice and HOT for the event.

Wes and Greg - nice job on the decks and yes screws are better - particularly if you need to replace a board.

Mitch - Happy 30th! The missus and I had our 23rd this year pushed aside by the "princess" B-Day and HS graduation. We have to do a make up dinner this weekend hopefully.

Got to run. Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

The wasps build their nests under the overhang of the main deck here.  Have to clean them out once/twice a year.

LAZ57 - How did you make out regarding the lumber you were going to get?

Just heard the horn on the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad tourist train.  Seems like the train is running more frequently this year.  Don't remember hearing it in the middle of the week last year, but then again I may just be forgetful.

P.S. Doug Murphy - I have been working on a much smaller wood working project the past couple of weeks.  If it turns out okay, will post pictures.

Good Morning

Overcast and 70s today but no rain yet. Humid.

Belly still feels full from yesterday and the BLT that Brutus bought and then ate for me didn't help, I think thats what put me over the top food wise. I have been to Kroger so now the day is mine and I have an eye on the basement. Nice job on the decks, looks good....S.J.

Mornin’ friends US, England & Canada..

Record heat again here mid to upper 90’s again....Thunder & Lightning this morning coming down from GA.

Princess comes home from Dance Camp and has blessed us with the news that she has been invited to dance in Rome, Italy for the New Years Eve of 2010-11.  So, we’ll start saving now.....If her school wins today’s competition, she will be in the Finals in Orlando (at least I can afford that..).  I’ll try to be there for the awards ceremony at 1130.

I put 5 things on the ‘bay, I’m thinking that I’ll be going to Deland on July 11th for the train show and sale there, a little time away and possibly put the Princess to work for the day.

Not much other news either way, I’ll have to speak to my parents later and see how they are, everything else is going the way of the “rut”.

For my Ohizo friends, I got this from a friend in Delaware (and, boy do we have jokes about THAT!!) and being an equal opportunity offender, I offer you this an have a good day!!

THINGS IN DAYTON ARE SO TOUGH THAT:

 1. I bought a toaster and they threw in 5th/3rd Bank.
 2. I'm getting pre-declined credit cards in the mail.
 3. NCR members are playing miniature golf.
 4. Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars are trading higher than Lexus.
5. Obama met with small businesses to discuss the stimulus
package like -- GE, Pfizer, Chrysler, Citigroup and GM
6. McDonalds has announced the quarter-ouncer.
7. People in Oakwood have had to lay off their nannies and
 learn their children's names.
8. The highest-paying job in Montgomery County is jury duty.
 9. Mothers in Africa are telling their kids, "Finish your food; kids are
starving in Dayton"
10. Motel Six will no longer be leaving the lights on.
11. The Gem City Mafia is laying off judges.
12. If National City/PNC returns your check marked
"insufficient funds," you have to call them and ask if they meant you or them.

Good Mornin'---

16C and drizzly/showery this morning. We're supposed to be having more rain today, tomorrow and Saturday. Once that is all done then the heat turns up --Whistling Had a big ol' t'underin' boomer with attendant monsoon last night which woke up the household.

Got some fiddlework to do so we's be gettin' ready to go get that done at the office. Might get some other stuff done later.

Lawson Farms - Nice to have fans. Laugh  Early pick for this weekend is the 24.  I forsee the top two series going back to a 36 car field next season...

Back to 36 car field. Hadn't heard that, but it makes sense, what with the car manufacture's cut backs on support. As usual my pick is # 18. #5 would be OK to.Thumbs Up

Wes - Great looking deck. Time to fire up that grill and enjoy it!Dinner

Chief - Country style steak, mashed potatoes with gravy and spinach is one of the best Southern meals. I wander if our Yank friends will agree.Whistling

Bob - I like the sound of your progress. Playing with the trains will speed up the recovery even more.

SJ - All of the White Castles are gone from our areaSad, but I remember eating lunches there some 40 years ago.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Steady rain and 68, with flash floods across the Mid-Atlantic region today...thud and blunder!  Lots to do inside though...like going on-line and ordering goodies for the sailboat! Pirate

Ole Timer - You are correct about a buyer's market for boats.  I know of a few marinas where folks have abandoned their vessels, and the owners will let them go cheap. Check out the Salty Dog, or the SPIN SHEET (sailboats) and PROP TALK (powerboats), for best prices.

mitchie - Congats on 30! CoolWow!!

Good morning all,

Good possibility of rain today in SE Indiana.  Won our soccer game 3-1 last night and the one goal by the opponents came late in the game.  I played about half the game.  Did some things well, others not so well.  Got away with a major shove when contesting a ball.  Don't normally do that, but sometimes "old age and treachery...."  My Norwegian soccer friend and her friend showed up for the last half of the game, and they, my dad, the "saucy wench" and I went to dinner at Steak'n'Shake.  The food was good and the company delightful.  Tired and sore this morning, but did not have to drive.  Taking Friday off.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Prayers as always going out to those who need them.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

 Morning Folks,

Put on a fresh pot.  Before I forget, prayers to all who need them, especially Brutus's family, Chief's FIL, and Submmbob.

Happy belated birthday to Sir James and belated anniversary wishes for Charlie.

Wifey and I celebrated 30 years on Tuesday. We drove over toward Lancaster and went to Smorgasbord at Shady Maple.  We had a nice day.

SIL is coming from FL for a visit will be here through Sunday.  Ran standard gauge for a little while last night before putting it away for the duration of SIL's visit.  Sunday will be a busy one with taking SIL to airport, visting Dad for Father's Day and then going out to dinner to meet our son's GF's parents.  I guess this relationship is getting pretty serious when the parents meet.  Her folks are coming to the East Coast for visit.  They live in California, but I believe her Dad is originally from Kentucky.

Take care,

Mitch

Morning everyone.  I finished the deck last night.  One less thing to do before I can start working on the layout again.  I see why deck builders like to use nails.  This took a couple of weeks to build one screw at a time.  The honeydoo list doesn't really get any shorter...

Brutis...glad things are looking a bit more positive for your wife. If you ever want to talk about the Transplant ordeal, shoot me an email. No experience with Bone Marrow so little help there, but did get a new Kidney in January. These Doctors today can do some amazing things! Keep the faith and I will keep her in my thoughts!

Chief...glad to hear the good news about Fil. Tick issues sooooooooo much better than the "C" word. Friday marks the one year anniv. of my dad  passing from it at 69 years old. He was born in good ole' Altoona PA! His dad worked for the railroads way back when. Not sure what he did. Hmmm will have to ask my uncle.

Anyway, just wanted to catch up with everything and everyone and give my well wishs to those in need.....Night all!

sir james I

Good Morning

Thanks guys.

RT, Even at 70 I can read that eye chart with binoculars.Big Smile

Good night all.  Had to put three traction tires on the AC6000.  Two on the same wheel set came off the first time I ran it.  Finally got time to take care of it.  Fishing line did not work as sides of trucks too close to the wheels.  Took shell off and then truck sides.  Not a problem but time consuming.  Then ran trains for about an hour before leaving for meeting.  Came home to supper of country style steak, mashed potatoes with gravy and spinish.  Plenty of sweet ice tea.  Watched a couple of movies with popcorn and now bed time.  Sleep tight.
