Good morning to all,
Busy day today. Heading to MD for my Dad's 75 b'day celebration, should be fun. Went on an expedition to the local train store and it was closed. Second time I have gone by on a Saturday and they were closed. Seems to be doing pretty well because he just moved to a new larger storefront. Sign on the door said he had gone to buy a new collection on Thursday and would be closed, but did not mention Saturday. Have to stop by one afternoon and see what is new.
Well I better get going. Got to get cleaned up and ready for early church. We are heading to my sister's place to help with the preparation and I have to make a run to the metro to pick up our son and his girlfriend. The trip to the metro only adds an extra hour of driving . Our son is talking about buying a car, don't know if he can afford it but I will be glad to be off of shuttle duty if he does.

I have both of the Magma engines in question. The K-Line set is TTOS release that had a yellow MP-15, 3 red ore cars and a red work caboose. Nice conventional set.
The Weaver RS-3 is a great looking diesel but a very poor runner. It has the dual drive shafts that really suck. Very little traction, been think about gutting it and using it as a dummy. I believe Weaver came out a year or so later with GP-20 style Magma diesel.
The youngest Grandson was over last night so we ran trains most of the night. He is still interested in trains, the two older grandsons gave up trains for the computer games, sports, and girls, not necessarily in that order.
Started up the fire pit last night, got through the hot dogs and was finishing up on the smores when the heavens opened up and doused the fire.

The Magma Railroad guys (later BHP) used to use part of the shops at the Nevada Northern to maintain their equipment. They later donated a couple of engines and a lot of parts, including Alco RS-3 #13. Bob

Bob, If you don't have any luck on the RS-3 I think, if memory is accurate, K-Line did a Magma set that was an MP-15 switcher with a couple of cars plus caboose. Nothing fancy, just a basic entry level set.

Early mornin' / late evenin' fellas.Got a call from the LTS on Tuesday that my GN GP-7 was working fine in conventional mode, and all the boards were seated tight. They didn't have the reset codes for the Legacy engines so they couldn't verify if it was OK in Command Mode. I dropped the instructions and chip off yesterday, got a call this morning that 'Everything is A-O-K, come on down to pick her up.' So I packed up the car, tossed the wife in the passenger seat, and headed to Mt Airy. They put the GP-7 on the test track and everything is right on! I know I should have tried a reset, but I was too ticked to really muster the strength... OH and while we were there I found they had a HUGE, and I mean HUGE collection they were putting out that they bought a few weeks ago. I purchased a Domino Sugar Hopper car for $15.00 not bad. SusieQ placed my X-Mas preorder too! Can't wait for X-Mas now - opperating train store, Legacy stock car, and Crabby Matt's Diner. Gotta get the mountain built, get the curved bridge built, build the coaling station, and build the coal mine... all before October.Also stopped at 84 Lumber today to price the lumber for the deck replacement, and roof for the screened porch and sun room. $3,600 out the door. Now need to get estimates for the windows, exterior door, french door, pocket door, and through-the-wall HVAC. From my calcs the HVAC, french door, and windows will be about 3 times the lumber! Then need the drywall, electrical rough in, ceiling fans, and the exterior finish lumber. To have had someone do this it would have been way too expensive. The sunroom will be 16 x 14 and the screened porch 16 x 16.

Finally winding down after a busy day. Had Baccalaurate Mass this morning the Evening Mass. Sunday is Pentecost and I have the homily this wekend. After Mass visited some graduates.

Banks, sorry I missed your post -- prayers for your family. Prayers for Jim SP's family, Miss Pam, and all of us and our friends and families too.
We went out to eat at Cracker Barrell for dinner tonight at about 4, then took kids to Borders. Wife sat in the kids section while they spent their allowance and I checked out some train magazines. They have almost no dvds left - I guess they are getting rid of that section? We had a good coupon and my wife bought me some kind of puzzle with little train pieces that looks like fun.
Had a nice talk with SJ tonight on chat. SJ - hope you are feeling better soon my friend.
I was bad today - just realized I completely forgot to call my brother. I'll call him tomorrow and wish him a Happy Birthday. Better late than never. I'm sure he'll understand though, I have a terrible memory for stuff like this.

Evening folks: the day flew by didn't know it was this late. Spent the day grocery shopping then got the pool cover clean off and realized its totally shot. Will need to buy a new one in the fall. Tomorrow I pull the cover off and pray everything works as it should. .......Later Steve
Sorry guys, been away for a trip to Woodstock, GA for my niece's graduation. Nice event, but I can do without the 4 hour drive. Took lots of photos with the new Nikon D90. Jon, it takes incredible photos and the color saturation is right on. Best quality I have seen. Regarding digital SLR's and the screen image, actually, they now have a technology called "live view" which does show on the 3" screen. This was the technology needed to allow for the video in the D90's video mode. This is the first DSLR with this ability, but Cannon came out with their own version soon afterwards. I do have some photos of the in progress layout, but need to load them on a sharing program to post.
Regarding the stone massage, it was nice while it lasted, but the next day, had most of my sore spots back. I think I'd be better served with a deep tissue massage. But it sure felt good being pampered by those ladies. Felt like Mel Brooks....."It's good to be the king".
Well, I really must get back to the family. Body is wore out and I need some sleep tonight. Bride is planning on making some home made "Nanna Puddin'" tomorrow after morning church...YUM! One of the things I love about a Southern Bell, they know some good family recipes. Brutus and Chief, good to hear the news on brides. Will pray for continued health and healing.

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. Went to the graduation (congrats, Doug M. on your daughter as well), and then went to the party. Very nice time. Went to Mass tonight so we can rest on Sunday and watch the IRL race. Paul Tracy is driving for AJ but only starting 16th. Princess is 7th and Briscoe is on the pole. Had biscuits and bacon on the dining car for breakfast. Tardis was fun to drive last night. I can do it again tonight as well. I hope everyone has a good day.

Wasn't aware that you already had a Canon S2IS camera. I am frequently amazed at the great pictures I get with my S3IS. My previous digital camera was a MINOLTA (not Konica-Minolta) S404. While it took good pictures, the Canon is so much better it is scary. After sinking untold dollars into Minolta 35MM bodies (including a HTSI) I was really unimpressed with the S404. It ate batteries (I used rechargable NIMH AA's) like candy. And was very tempermental about battery changes. Last straw was when the flash quit working the night my grandson was born. Bought the Canon two days later. I just sold the Minolta (for next to nothing and I included a nice size CF memory card) but the buyer was fully aware of the problems with the flash unit.
If you can't tell, photography was my other major money pit hobby. Of course, I was making a good living back then. Took several classes at the local technical and vocational schools taught by local professionals. Got to do the black & white film developing and printing in one class. In another class where the instructor developed the B&W film when he was looking at the negatives, he said I had a "good eye" but then he said I "blew it" on one picture of an old school house because I cut off the top of the chimney. Oh well, win some, lose some. lol.
I did a few weddings and was always being asked to take pictures at gatherings etc. Thought that was a good thing and I even bought a set of Novatron flash lights. Then one day I realized that my photography hobby was getting to be just another job. Seems that way about a lot of things that start out to be fun.

Good afternoon all, I just got back from the TCA Western Division meet today. Not too many sellers today but a few new things on tables along with stuff from the usual suspects. Saw a nice Southern Railway Alco PA set by Railking but would rather have a full size engine. Our resident DCS demonstration team was in attendance today along with our leader RAK who ran mostly Union Pacific Trains today because this month's theme was Union Pacific. Saw a MTH Big Boy and UP 9000 4-12-2 in operation. On the standard gauge track was a John Daniels M 100000 early stream line train.
We are having the June glooms for weather lately. Sun did not come out at all yesterday and is slow coming out today as well.
I'm sticking to my diet and walking my buns off for my high triglyceride problem. Had reaction to medication so doc says knock it off for 5 days then resume with half the dose.
Forgot to mention that a new item was on display at the train meet. It was a reproduction of the Lionel display cut out of a railroad man holding a red latern. The original one had the latern swinging from left to right but the repro is for display only. These cut outs are around 53 inches tall I think. They will be sold to raise funds to help pay for Cal Stewart Train Meet venue. It was mentioned that a few of these were taken back to York and sold out within minutes at the Billy Budd (Sheraton) bandit meet. They never made it to the big meet at York. They will be sold by the Toy Train Operating Society (TTOS). Anyone interested might get more info from them.
Should be cool in my garage today so I think I will go run some trains.

Worked 6 hours this morning, then stopped at Best Buy on the way home and got a Belkin expresscard wireless N modem for the laptop - man, this thing is flying! Kids with x-boxes still booted me off L4D because I was too slow, but can't overcome the graphics on the laptop, lol. Oh well, I'm probably a lot slower then they are anyway!

Man, my baby brother just turned 40 years old. Funny how birthdays come flying faster and faster as we get older. Seems like he and I were just kids tormenting each other a few days ago to me.

Just finished mowing the lawn, now i have to finish cleaning up some branches that I lopped off of the maple trees. After I clean up I may head to the local train shop for a while this afternoon. Tomorrow we are heading to MD for a birthday celebration for my Dad - 75 yo tomorrow. Should be fun, but the older I get the more I dread the 1.5 hours each way, especially heading home.

The camera you are looking for is the Nikon 5000, take the demo tour, very cool camera and of course, it uses the Nikor lenses, simply the best, IMO. I've always been a camera geek and finally three years ago I was able to own my first Digital Nikon SLR, love it, somewhere around 7000 images in those three years My other digital cameras drove me crazy with the shutter lag, surprised I didn't throw one of 'em off the Durango Silverton train.

Good Morning All, spent a couple hours last night working on the second level of the layout. This will be the logging division short line where the MTH Weyerhaeuser Shay will call home. Installed an operating track above the log mill so the operating log cars will be able to dump their logs which will roll down the slope to the mill.
Grandson number 3 will be here tonight so some train operation will be on the menu along with a game of monopoly. I always throw a $10 bill in the winners pot, strange how the grandson always wins the pot.
Right Mike, you can drive :) SJ has the banilla ready! Gotta hit the hay to get up at 5 AM for work. The new Terminator movie was really great - loved it! A couple big surprises in there that I won't give away! No trains today, all take care and I'll catch up on the pot tomorrow.
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. Lucas and I mowed the yard and all three of us did housework ("saucy wench" did most of indoor work). Saw Night at Museum Thursday night. Very good. After yard work was done, walked to YMCA, did weights and walked back home. Went to a graduation party tonight for a co-worker. Went to Cheesecake Factory. Good food but pricey. Banks, been down that road although not as severe a situation as the one facing your niece. Prayers going out to you, buddy. Beacon is lit and I can drive the late shift. I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
