Hi everyone. So, wha'd I miss since last week? Hear the pot had to be changed, but didn't get a taste of the lost one, so I'll stay quiet on that. Parents left today. Hope they got out of Hotlanta without trouble as we have had quite a day of the weather.
Don, did see the "snot" at York, but I didn't bite as I wanted to hear what others thought before diving into that.Doug, thanks for posting the thought and photos of the magnetic cleaning you did. I am building my own track cleaner car and intend to have a good sized magnet placed to pick up such items. Thought about making it with a holder over the magnet to catch the nasty stuff in a lens paper, so it will keep the magnet clean.
Chief, sorry to hear of the issues with the new engines. Glad you didn't go back for the other premier engine? Glad I am sticking to the 40s for my engines as that will assure me some products in NYC livery.
Was a big day of it here. Had three big cases and have another early morning ahead. Turns out both kids have graduation the same day next week, so having made arrangements, I will have to cover some time swapping. Should make for some long days ahead. Once the activity calms down, I will get back to finishing the layout. Really motivated as I want to get my new aquisitions on the rails.

Warming up a little in St. Louis area - supposed to rain overnight I think? Had a bad headache for a couple days, think it was muscles in the neck plus allergies. Doing a lot better today though Had a Cinco de Mayo party at work and people brought all this food in crockpots, but nobody brought paper plates or bowls, lol.
Found the keys, RT - thanks for the assist. Ready for tonight and I'll drive to give you guys a break. TTFN!

All calm. Watching news with laptop going. Had 8 tornado touch downs in NC. One in Raleigh. Lightning hit the NCSU bell tower and threw chunks of granite. Ran trains. MTH lashups and Atlas lashups. Did get to finally open the box with traveling car. Should already be shipped. Was late getting to me but that is OK. BTW: where is Rich??? Very pretty Ann Arbor orange box car. Will get it run and photoed. Off to bed.

Cloudy all day with a few drops of rain. Temp. in the 60's. Got a nasty-gram from the guy on e-bay that I bought the tank car from saying that I had forgotten to include shipping. Did some checking, and he was right. Oops. Shipping payment on the way now. It will be a little while longer before I get that 1962 Texas Special freight outfit together and running.....
Making plans for vacation next week. I'll be working on projects around the house until Wednesday, when I'll head out to Bowling Green Ky. for the Buick GS Nationals. Meet some old friends from Michigan and watch those old 455 cubic inch dinasours run.
Chief - glad the weather missed you. My chair is a wing back. Does that make it wingbackizing instead of reclinerizing? Or is reclinerizing a generic term like kleenex?

I hear Earl Schieb is still in business but he does'nt do it for 29.95 anymore. I used to have a BIL that painted a 50ish Plymouth with a brush. Did'nt look too bad either if you did'nt get too close.Later, Ray

When I need to replace the tires, the fishing line works well. The way I use it is;
- Place the tire on the wheel surface
- Thread the fishline through the tire, typically use 6 to 8 inch length
- Place tire around the easily accessible area of the wheel and hold it in place with one hand.
- Then hold the two ends of the fishing line together and pull the tire around the wheel, (flexible, easy to hold, no problem)
- After the tire is in place, then simply release one end of the fishing line and pull it out.
The front planter is now all naked and bare. Looks good.

Chief, glad you were missed by the storm. Also good that the MTH's cooperated for the lashups...finally. Early morning here. Already set to go, but we have "Lung Conference" this morning, so it will be a late start on the cases. Hope to get done in a reasonable time so that I can make the violin lessons. I have not been in a month. Have to practice by watching the wife and kids and learning from them.
Got lucky last night in that we did not have to deal with a liver laceration...those can be a bear of a case. Person was beaten...Sad. Anyway, just have to watch them and with some luck, the better option will be for the person to heal without surgery.

Hello from the Central Virginia Rain Forest. Have had rain and no sun for 8 days in a row. Not complaining, just glad I raise pasture grass and don't plant corn or make hay (I buy my winter hay).
Chief - Glad you survived the bad weather. Those Grits will protect you every time.
A while back I was told that the Lionel NASCAR engine couldn't pull more than the few cars in the starter set and one expansion set. WRONG!
I have most of the NASCAR train cars from the various drivers sets, purchased from ebay, Choo-Choo, Nicholis Smith Trains, Etc. Most were found for me by RT, Chief, Don and others. Thanks. I have been running the NASCAR train with 6 cars with the rest of the cars on the shelves.
Just for the fun of it, yesterday I added the rest of the NASCAR cars plus 15 others, a few at a time, for a total of 32 cars. The engine pulled them as if no cars were attached. In fact, at full speed they would have gone off the track!
My layout started out 11 years ago as MTH with a P-1 starter set and now has the Z4000 and DCS system. I can run 4 trains at a time. The NASCAR train is my first Lionel and I am impressed.

Dwiemer .... your whole family plays the violin ? That's GREAT ! I love to hear them and I guess they're different ... the fiddles ... maybe you can tell me the difference . Hardly ever hear any played around here ... it must be becoming a lost art . My 3rd son had lessons in school for them ... I even bought one instead of renting hopeing he'd be interested ... he quit ... to my dismay . I'm lucky I can play a stereo ... no musical ear at all .

Morning all. After such a wet April, we've missed most of the rains. Grey and warm here today. Don, that use of fishing line for the traction tires is just great - should send that into the magazine as a tip. Doug, how does your magnetic sweeper car work? I'd like to put one together. Getting ready for the bride and daughter to go off to Tiffin, Ohio on Fri/Sat for the latter's freshman orientation. I'll be 'working' at home. Prayers for those in NC. Morning all from the wet but great South of Grits and Sweet Ice Tea [with lemon]. Wingbackizing, been there and done that too. 1.6 inches of rain in 24 hours. Several got lots more. Garden growing and blooming. Cucumbers set out last Monday are full of blooms. Squash are full of blooms too. Cloudy and more rain to come per weatherpersons. Going to run weedeater to trim out at street before it starts again. Pull weeds out of wife's flower bed I fex in garden every year. She is too laszy to keep it clean. Moved some of her zenias since they were coming up in the wrong places. Wet ground makes for easy pulling and also transplanting. Got to get photos of my new engines and the Ann Arbor box car. Later

The lowly Nascar car engine will pull a lot cars. I have seen that engine at a local show run all day with a dozen cars and they have set it up at other shows as well.
I will goof off today, shopping and grass are done.

Ole Timer - Some Coffee Pot posters know my favorite NASCAR driver is Kyle Bush, and when I mention him I usually get comments. To me, he is the aggressive talented driver I like to watch, much like Dale Sr. I think Kyle will be as good if not better than Dale Sr. in a few years.
I am always checking out ebay Etc. for additions, but now I look for the "Good Deals".
RT - I don't have that commemorative Jimmy Johnson boxcar. I will check out Grzboski's, and also check to see what else I am missing.
As an aside, anyone know why I no longer get email notice's of Coffee Pot posts? My email options are all set to "Yes" and the email Subscription is set to "Enabled". The notices stopped coming when Chief started Pot 7A .

Just got done making bookshelf for wife. 12 inches deep 48 inches wide, and 72 inches high. Made out of red oak. Maybe she'll give me a kiss or two?

DBaker48 Don, thanks for the fishing line tip. Maybe that would work on a hard to do engine like the front driving wheels on my MTH 2900 class 4-8-4. Those wheels are behind a lot of valve gear and other stuff that makes the tire hard to change without taking the boiler off and maybe more. My new GS4 4-8-4 only has traction tires on the rear set of driving wheels. That's all they need. I don't know why they put them on two axles on those early engines. It was overkill. Some other manufacturers did the same thing.

Ole Timer, yeah, we all play. The kids and wife are better than I am at this point. I need more practice. We have not been playing all that long, but are progressing. We can play several songs due to the Suzuki method. Regarding the difference between a fiddle and a violin...none. They are the same. I guess it just depends on the music played.

Pat ... that just goes to show you .... sometimes the simplest designs work the best ... just look at all those older lionels built 60 + years ago still going strong ! I'm quite sure our newer all circuit boarded up engines won't see half that ... probably not even 1/4 of that lifespan . Heck they'll outlast us .... ...
Dennis I think that's really great ... twinkle twinkle little star really is a pretty little song . Violins are about the most beautiful sounding hand held instrument in the world . Of couse I do love the bagpipes also .... amazing grace on them chokes me up .
Ole Timer the more I think about it the more I like the postwar/prewar trains. I have a standard Gauge set from 1934 runs like a champ then I have my 671RR and 681 engines that both run like a champ also and then theres my NYC GP-9 tmcc engine from 1996 that the command board needs replacing but the pul-mor engine still runs like a champ. If I run it in conventional mode it runs great if i goto command mode after about 20 minutes to 30 minutes it will either come to a complete stop and need to shut down power to track to get it going again or it goes to conventional mode and since theres 18 volts to track it goes like a bat out of well you know what I mean. thats why I'm thinking of selling my tmcc stuff and engines other than nyc engine and going back to the conventional engines 1969 and before.

Man it's dumping buckets here in Maryland ... I have to setup and level some riflescopes on about 5 rifles .... may as well do it while it's pouring outside . Then lasersyte them in for some guys at the local firing range . I have to take 2 of my own down for finalizing but this rain about everyday puts the damper on that . Heard on the weather channel a bit ago possible tornadoes again in Carolina .... hope not .

Evening all. Spritzing a bit. Bride at the movies with a girlfriend, so I'm posting a few photos I just took of SusieQ ready for pickup on the interchange track and a few other things down in Sunday Photo Phun. Now to run trains a bit before packing Susie up for Kurt.
Just had a very big spritz here with fireworks. We were sitting in the new sun room enjoy leftovers and an adult beverage (Chardonay) and enjoying life. I'm thinking this new add on might be even more enjoyable than the train room ................

Big moon out but under tornado watch until 4AM. Big storms bouncing around. Did not go to the lake house as big storm up that way. Going tomorrow AM. Think I will turn in early. Mowed grass front and back [again], mowed widow lady's, mowed pond path and bank, mowed school street shoulder [street to pond] adn trimmed all of my yard and up the street. Sprayed Roundup this AM. Sprayed fruit trees, roses, grape vines and all of garden. Hour and half later it rained. Can still smell the spray so I think it had dried in enough. Then went and elected a new State Senator. Home for Criminal Minds. Later.

Sir James, I am on the way - no train stuff per se today, but did talk with SJ and Doug on messenger, which is always a lot of fun! Tardis is ready and I think we need to take some of the Pink Stuff to Mike. Sounds like he doesn't want any icecream though!
Brown box on the front porch today. It contained the Missile Launch locomotive I ordered last week. That is one of the few pieces that my wife has expressed interest in at the last couple of train shows she has gone to with me.
Just for grins, I told her that it was her mother's day present. That did not go over very well. She didn't see the humor.
Anyhow, it is the new version with TMCC. Set it on the track, programmed a new engine I.D. number into the Legacy hand held and was operating in no time.
Wonder if the bat will show up again. I could take pot shots if he makes a low enough pass over the layout.
The sun was actually out for more than a few minutes at a time today. Temperature around 70. Quite plesant. Seeing the sun might help cheer people up. Everybody seems to be in a bit of a funk lately.
