Good Afternoon Y'all!  What a day.  Have 12 patients and too much to do.  Will be some time before I head home.  One of the guys is going to be away till next week, so I'll have a busy one for the next few days.  Have a rare case in the morning that I'll have to come in for, even though the new guy is in early.  It will give me a chance to show him how it is done.  Still, it makes for a long day.

Seems we did miss some great stuff at the Legacy meeting Chief.  Glad Marty posted the information.  I wonder if one of the after market companies will be able to come up with a Legacy Upgrade since Lionel doesn't seem interested at this time.  Would be nice.

Well, just got a call to take care of another case.  Will check back later this week,

God Bless,

Dennis

Good Evening

59 now, rain again tomorrow and 69.

Shopping done and a fresh supply of banilla on hand. I did forget to mention we rode home with Doug last nite on the chat line. A nice long train ride, Doug called the stops. I will wait for  Brutus and the Tardis..S.J.

What's up with the thread about multiple command systems? Seems every post must be 'monitored by an administrator'.... what's up with that?

Evening All,

Kinda got P.O.'d at Lionel customer service today. After many years of being consistently helpful with info and/or parts orders this morning was entirely pure bs. In preparation for making up some military cars with loads I e-mailed asking what the deck width would be on the 40' flats, 6-27513/4/5/6, since this info is not provided in the catalogs although the length is specified.

Their response was "They are the width of the average scale freight car. Thank you, Lionel"

Very informative response, Thumbs Down  Sad  Tongue .

What's up with the thread about multiple command systems? Seems every post must be 'monitored by an administrator'.... what's up with that?

 Brent,

I am NOT an "administrator",  what I was trying to find out is the following;

How many guys are using command control as opposed to conventional.  Then, of those using command, how many have multiple systems?  And finally, how many have all three?  SIMPLE AS THAT !

Now, I have been wondering about that for awhile, and became more and more curious.  So, I wanted to ask the question, without creating a discussion regarding one system versus another.  Because, I knew, that if I was to ask how many have Legacy, or how many have DCS, or how many have TMCC, would certainly create a lot of concern.

Now, I will share other thoughts I've had;

Recently,  I have seen a lot of threads about how prejudice the other forum is towards MTH, and how bias York appeared to many, based upon the product availability, and displays.

So, where is the bias??  Does one forum have more command control systems than another?  What are the relative demographics of train users on the forums, regarding the trains they run, or how they use them?

Personally, I enjoy TMCC, Legacy, and DCS, I can argue favorably for any one of them.  And, then go and run some older conventional I have, with equal enjoyment.  I get most frustrated when people start making statements about one of the systems that is inaccurate, or biased.

Also, I enjoy BOTH forums, I don't find it necessary to degrade either one of them.  (I posted the same thread on both, they havn't seen the need to post a bunch of rhetoric about why their system was better than someone else's.)

Bottom line -  Was trying to get some imperical data, as close as possible given the means available.

Regardless, of how much bias there may or maynot be at either forum, the train enthusiasts that frequent the forums are probably more technically oriented, or are more interested in high tech stuff than those that don't visit the forums.  I would expect that the conventional operators will be relatively low in number, by comparison.  But, outside the forum may well be the majority.  Don't Know.

I have probably elaborated too much with THIS POST as well,  AND I AM NOT THE MODERATOR HERE EITHER !!

Good Morning from wet Southern Ohio

All is quiet here.  The grandkids are staying over at the other grandparents for a couple days.

Old timer – I’ve tried the “it’s a man thing” answer also, like when I hear another black engine?

Wes – Good luck with moving day.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate for you.

DougDG – Sounds like you got someone on a bad day maybe?

Well, time to go to work

May God bless

Jim

Good Morning...Smile,Wink, & GrinZzz

Don: Didn’t mean to hi-jack your query, I just tried to dispel a myth, as it were.  I’ll refrain from answering or addressing any comments in that forum.

Right now it’s damp and 65 and then up to 80 or so later.

Gearing up for the “BIG” car sale on the 16th & 17th, so I have to work another weekend.  Then the weekends will be mine for a while.  I’m planning on going to the HOG meeting on the 9th, first one since December.  I’ll probably pick up the bike today or tomorrow so I’ll have it for Sunday.

No trains last night, came home fell asleep on the couch after work; everybody came home about 8:30, made tacos and chicken fajitas for dinner with white rice.  In bed by 11:00.  Need to get the garage organized for the bikes homecoming, I guess.

Be back later!

Good morning all,

It is another rainy day in Indiana.  Played some good soccer last night and did weights at the YMCA.  Watched the last part of "Lost".  Very good day at work yesterday as I solved some long standing programming issues I have been dealing with.  Beacon is lit.  I had the regular fare on the dining car.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning

Going to 69 with rain expected.

As for that other place, trash threads are an everyday event there. Even people who will never own the product will jump in. But each of us has the right to see what we want to see. I have learned that two people cannot agree on what color is really red or blue or anything else.

I just had an egg sandwich for breakfast so I guess lunch is likely today. Charlie is coming by tonite so I need to setup something that smokes good as we  are going to try the new oderless Mega-steam. Have a good day, enjoy the sun if you have it....S.J.

Hello Guys,

Now that I am retired I guess I can report from western NY - Mid 60's and rain sometime today. Just finished off the coffee and the grandson is sleeping so I can get in a few words and questions.

Since getting back into trains I have yet to put up a real "layout". I have fastrack on top of 3/4 plywood, sawhorses and an area about 6x12. Do most people have set layouts? I am thinking of making one but I don't know if I want the permanent feel of an actual layout.

Your thoughts gentlemen would be appreciated.

Wizzer - Sign - Welcome To the Pot!

Some of us have 'permanent' layouts, some are carpet central runners, some are outdoorsy types, and some are like you where we have semi-permanent layouts.

Personnally I have a 'permanent' layout, but I could disassemble it and move parts or all of it if need be. It isn't 'modular' as I had originally intended, but I can separate it into manageable sections for moving (would require 2 - 4 people to move each section).

As Brent said there is the full spectrum here.  Some have layouts some do not. Some are collectors and some are operators and other collector operators.  There is also a mix of pre-war post war, modern, and every manufacture you could imagine.  Diversity is here, and tolerance. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hello Brent,

Thanks for the reply. In the next few months a bedroom will open up as my last nester is moving to his own home.  It isn't big but I could fit a 9x10 layout in it. Right now it is in the basement with an open staircase and it competes in noise level with the "boob tube". It will be moving. As to what form I am still not sure.

Take care

Paul

Hey Paul, WelcomeSign - Welcome

I have a small bedroom with an "L" shaped layout that has 2 main lines - 4X8 and 2X4.  It's modest, but fun.  I'm planning on a bigger layout, once the living situation have been solidified.

Jim Phish - nice one on the Tolerance!!Bow

Ol' Timer - argument over, your opinion and mine - agree to disagree. Smile,Wink, & Grin I didn't want that bleeding over here, Sorry that I even brought it up.Sigh

Really busy, was supposed to be in a meeting with food, passed on that, had a respite and checked it real quick - busy day here at the auto-world.

Good Late Morning everyone!  Was a long night, and a early morning, but should be a nice rest of the day.  I say this, but when I get home, I have two things to face.  First, Chooch is delivering yet another item...SWMBO will love thatBlack Eye  Also, my parents are coming down tomorrow and so I am sure I will have quite the list of honey dos.  Took care of framing a picture and hanging same on wall last night.  Also fixed door and patched a few picture hanger holes in the walls.  Fixed the dryer vent and some other odds and ends.  Today, I have to cut the grass around the house and spray some pesticide to get rid of the mosquitos.  They are bad this year.  Tomorrow, I have to pick up the folks, bring them to the son's "Field Day" at school and then come in to work.

Gee Wizzer , good to see you checking in.  I think the majority here have some kind of permanent layout, but we have all kinds.  Even some that only get set up around the tree come Christmas.  For your situation, I'd suggest you keep along the lines you are for now.  You can build a frame for your layout with some 1x3s to support the plywood, add homasote on top and then screw the fastrack to the homasote.  You can either screw some casters to the bottom of the layout frame so it will store under a bed, or just use the same saw horses.  Experiment with some different layout plans and you can build a respectable pike that brings both you and the grandchild some enjoyment.  Then, if you wish to dedicate some area to the trains, you can build something of a more permanent structure.  TM books and video has a DVD out on "Building an O-Gauge Layout" that has some good ideas on making this type of starter setup.  The thing about this hobby is that the most important part is to have fun.  Enjoy it.  remember, it is not the destination, its the journey.

God Bless,
Dennis

Google "grits" and click on Images. There are 10 pages showing grits. You can download them. I would be interested in buying one of the box cars if you have extra.Thumbs Up

Afternoon all!

First fatal mowing this morning...I was able to spend last night ni the garage with the Snapper last night, and get it tuned up.

Don:  Wow how a simple question can run amuck.

Rich:  Hope your bike is working, and you can finally get some enjoyment out of it.

Ole Timer:  Decal sheets are available that will work in your printer.  How 'bout this one?

Welcome Wizzer.  Check out the Sunday Photo Fun threads.  You will find pictures of many of our layouts there.

I've done well on E-bay this week.  Finally got the last piece I needed to re-create a #11252 Texas Special Diesel Freight set from 1962. I'll post pictures on SPF in a couple of weeks when everything is here and all cleaned up.

60's cloudy & threatening rain here today.  Hope we don't get much more.  Last night's heavy rain backed up through my basement floor drains.  Gotta clean the basement again.

I'm spending a quiet afternoon after my date with an endoscope this morning. I'm debating wheather or not to use the souviner picture they gave me as my avitar for a little while.

Ran trains for a bit and am going to give my #1615 0-4-0 a cleaning and lube.

Chief, Laz - idle thoughts while I was on my clear fluid prep diet yesterday.  Don't you think 'shine and beer qualify as clear liquids?  My wife didn't think so.
