Good Morning

Sunny and going to the 80s. Dreaded storms tonite again.

Poor Charlie, it could take weeks for me to degrit him.

The grass is growing now big time, have not done first cut yet. The back yard is like a wet sponge. I am going to gas and run the trimmer though. Oatmeal and toast  for breakfast, that will do for now....S.J.

Good Morning fellow & former Yankees...Laugh

Took a few minutes to catch up on the ‘pot.  Glad you York traverlers are all back home with yer booty....safe & sound...Pirate

Had my own little adventure this weekend.  The big green “e” had Universal studios all to ourselves Friday night.  Free food, wine soda & beer all night (saw one of my co-workers lit up, his girl friend took care of getting him back).  Hardly any wait time on the rides, over ate.  Got back to hotel about 1:30 AMDinnerZzz

Saturday was the best, the weather was gorgeous and we left for Disney after 9 AM.  It was my birthday and I got a pin and a special admission ticket.  Made the all aboard announcement (my daughter told the engineer..) and the Roy O. Disney died on the tracks.  Go figure....Banged Head

All through the park, people were saying Happy Birthday to me.  I was even dusted with Pixie Dust.  We closed the park down (after 11 PM).  This place really is magical.  I really had one of the greatest days of my life with my kids.  Fireworks ended the experience.  What a day!!Big SmileCool

Last night the bride presented me with a birthday cake and a conductors hat.  Mom sent some Italian nougat candies (from Italy!!) and some cash and my Godmother/Aunt, sent me some cash also.  Really hated the weekend to be over.Sigh

I’ll be posting pictures and video of the Roy O. Disney later, and Doug, I haven’t forgotten your CPI car....between hospital and this weekend, it’s been tough, but I’ll get pictures this week...PROMISE!!!

Make it a MAGICAL day!!

Hello All,

It was a great week end. I got four more replacement sash installed in the house, only two to go.

Glad to hear all the York travelers made it home safely.

Rich, sounds like you had a great weekend.

Brutus, glad Dad's out of the hospital

Best wishes to all the rest

Laz, Wow, you're some hiker.  I never walked that far even when I was young.  Once, I hiked in about 5 miles from the main road to a high country lake to fish at Yosemite but that's about it for distance.  We did hike from the valley floor to the top of Yosemite Falls and also from the valley floor to Glacier Point on our first trip there.  They still had the fire fall in those days from Glacier Point.  I was there when President John F. Kennedy came and they had a super fire fall that night.  It was a big thrill for us to see him and the fire fall.  I was out fishing the day he arrived by helicopter and he landed near where I was fishing on the Merced River.  My wife and I got a close up look at him.  He was driven to the Awanee Hotel in an open car after he arrived.  His Press secretary, Pierre Salinger was also in the group  along with then California Govenor Edmond G.(Pat) Brown. Those  trout you caught may have been natives or else planted as fingerlings.  They do that from airplaines up there.  The very high lakes above 10 000 ft I think have Golden Trout.  They don't get very big either but are highly prized by anglers.  The legendary Chuck Yeager of Rocket Plane fame wrote in his book about going up in the High Sierras for those Golden Trout.  I have never seen one myself except in pictures.

I have lived in Southern California since 1958 but I have never been to Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Park either.  I finally went to Catalina Island for the first time a few years ago.

Thanks for pointing yourself out in Chief's York picture.  Where did you guys eat?  We used to go to the Round The Clock Diner for breakfast.

Prayers for all those who are suffering.  Have a good week,

Ray

SPMAN,

I've been to YOSEMITE twice now and still love that park.  When we were there both times went up to VERNAL FALLS.  Very pretty, we were going to go the rest of the way up to HALF DOME but it met coming back down in the dark.  Next time I want to leave early and go up to the DOME.  I heard you have to actually pull yourself up to the top via a cable?  Sounds real exciting.  Back in '86 my BROTHERS and I went out to ESCONDIDO to build SISTER and BIL house.  Lots o fun then.  Saw all the site of SC then.  Nice but we did get there house under roof.  At YORK we ate at DENNYs on RT30.  Love those little trout up there at 10000 feet.  We went over I think 13000 feet, wife got a little altitude sickness, but I felt fine.  Had to go from bear box to bear box to stow food at night.  Boxes were about 15-18 miles apart.  Met up with a ranger that told us to do that because bears were very aggressive that year of '96.  Had great hikes, would love to make it back there?

Afternoon Y'all!  Sorry it has taken till now to post a York Report.  Got home about 17:30 and took the family out to dinner.  Did not want to jump on the computer as it would have been a bad move in the eyes of SWMBO.  The booty call is this:  One Legacy engine (NYC GP7), Three Atlas boxcars(Scale Central of Georgia) with 3 different road numbers.  Also got a "I Love Georgia" and a "I Love NJ" boxcars.  Filled the trunk with some additional people for the layout, and a friend who owns a train store gave me a boxcar as well.  Had some fun with the guys from the forum.  CTT staff is great too.  Handed out some goodies, including some Moonpies.  Found out that the "Rare and Expensive" boxcar makes a great wheel Chock for a tractor!

Chief and I had a great railfan trip the first morning, as you can see in some of the photos.  What he didn't tell you is that we also did a little 4-wheeling in the mercedes....glad the bride didn't see that!  But we did get some nice photos.

Regarding the negatives from York:  I only have two.  1. You can never have enough money for all you would want to buy.  2.  Your legs will hurt regardless of the shape you are in.  It is a lot of walking.  For those in need, the power scooters are the way to go.

Was great!  look forward to another trip in the future.  Bride wants more progress on the layout first though.

Now your talking dennis a GP-7 NYC bob keller will be proud of youBig Smile in fact shocked he didn't try to get it away from you. I have a GP-9 tmcc NYC in fact its one of the first tmcc lionel did ( that model not that engine it self) 1996 built. Still runs great. guess I do want to sooner or later add coil couplers for it thou. (never had them) they do have a add on for them thou.

Dennis didn't realize you had the 4x4 mercedesWhistling. Have seen them but never rode in one. had a guy when I was in FL I was doing some plumbing work for that had one it kinda looked like a oversize sidekick but this thing even had wipers for the head lights lol.

Glad the trip was a good one. Glad you all had great time and great meetings.

Did do a little this afternoon like weed eat the yard and crawed under house to see what all I will need to run gas( Propane) line for the stove and the gas fireplace we have in the living room.

Well will talk to you all later.

DENNIS,

Glad you had a safe trip hope.  Your right ear is probably twice the size of the left on the account of DA CHIEF talking all the way home.  Glad to meet with you and my wife gave me the MOONPIE that you gave her.  Its on the counter and I might eat it for breakfast tomorrow?  Was there any foriegn substance on it?  Say GRITS?

Now work on that layout and come back up in the fall only 6 months away.

Laz, I love Yosemite too.  The last time I was there was a tragedy though.  My sister visiting from Florida had a fall in the shower at our cabin and had a fracture in her back.  The whole trip was wrecked and it happened on the first morning after we got there.  All she saw was a little of the valley and we did drive up to Glacier Point that first day and saw the waterfalls and Half Dome from a distance.  It was beautiful.  They had to take sis to a hospital in Modesto and she was there for a week.  She stayed with us until she was well enough to fly home.  I have'nt been back to Yosemite since but would like to go again some time in the Spring to see those falls again.  Those bears can be a problem in the park though.  They say not leave anything in your car overnight or they will break into it.

Dennis, where are those photos of you and the Chief doing the 4 wheel thing?  I could go for a Moon Pie right now.  I was toothless all day today while my upper partial was being repaired.  Would have been a good day for grits.  Glad you all had a good time at York.  Wish I could have been there with y'all.

Good evening

Well I went out with the trimmer and got lost in the high grass. I decided that it did need cutting in spite of the spongy ground. Actually the mowing went well. 82 today but this is the last for awhile back to 60s. thats ok too. No trains today but I did chat with Charlie about his new Berk. Forgive me but we ate the  last of the banilla over brownies but we can always go back and get it first.   S.J.

Back from Michigan.  Had a good time at the reunion.  There is something special about that group of people.  We worked together from the late 70's until the early 90's.  Seems like we are more family than co-workers.  That connection is missing with the group I'm working with now.  Spent Saturday visiting mom & working on her 'to do' list.

Stopped at I Love Toy Trains store in New Buffalo and Bob's Hobby in Watervelete.  Both interesting stores.  The only thing I bought, though, was a bottle of LaBelle 107.

Sounds like York was an enjoyable experience for those who went.

Was going to mow the lawn after work, but about an inch of rain at 4pm fixed that.

Looks like I had the winning bid on an Autolite boxcar on e-bay, and I need to check the bid on the tank car, as that auction ought to be ending about now.

Later, all.

Looks like rain here today.

HI GYZ,

CHIEF take this weather with you, you forgot it.  It's 73 at 600 this morning to get to 90 again.

Worked on ponds yesterday, built a trouft for water fall from pump.

SPMAN, love Glacier point.  In '86 during the PERSEIDS in August(shooting stars), saw the best display ever.  We were up there at Glacier Point and NO LIGHT POLUTION at all saw at least 50 and hour if not more.  It is one of my fondest memories of the park.  Sorry to here bout the bad luck there, hope she mended well.

Stay frosty,

Good Morning from beautiful Southern Ohio

Mid 60's and good chance of rain today.

The National PArks out west are some of the bride's and I favorite spots to vacation.  Yosemite, Brice, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Joushua Tree, all awsome.  We are deciding wether to go west again or head to northeast (Main Vermont) for vacation this year.

Nice evening last night.  Got home from work and went to a nearby park for a picnic supper with the bride and kids.  Low key.

Taking Wednesday off work for a furneral of a good friend and member of our parish.

GLad all are back from York safely, and I assume with budgets still intact.  Need to get to work.

May God bless

Good morning all,

It is rainy and mild in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  Older daughter and two of the grandkids were down last evening.  Had a nice visit and swung the kids in the swing set.  Did not get out to YMCA until after 8 PM.  Did weights and some track work(outdoors).  Watched some of "Dancing with the Stars".  Had to drive by myself today, which means I have to drive agin tomorrow.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning.   Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning all. This is one of those months when it's easy to guess wrong about what to wear - and I did - it's freezing - 44 - windy and raining too - more like a Monday. I have my class tonight and a full slate of meetings. Great chatting with Sir J and Brutus last eve, using Yahoo Messenger. Maybe I can catch a few guys on the late train ride home.

Never been to the big parks out west. I'd love to someday!

Ran the Susie-Q car for a while - switched it once so James would get to pull a long freight - my K. Polak Coal Co. trucks and longer vans. Still on the lookout for a Marx 2 axle car to convert into a banana van like this one:

 Good morning,

To be hot again today, then cool off.  It sounds like Chicago is getting real cool weather.  The grass here is growing like crazy, should not have fertilized I guess.

I don't think I mentioned it, but I picked up the Lionel catalogs on CD at the TCA event last Wednesday.  Everything from 1945 to 1995 on two CDs.  I haven't looked at them yet, but what I saw at the demo looked impressive.

Good Morning,

Starting to get hot again down here, around 88 for a daytime high, already hit 90 for a high this month, not much rain.

Been down to Ready To Roll again in north Miami, bought a couple of things, has stuff that my hobby shop in Lantana doesn't carry, like GarGraves track and switches.

Hopefully my water bill comes down this month or I may put up a video camera to see what is going on outside to see if somebody is stealing my water.

Got an estimate to take down a couple of sodium lights, about $250.00. I will rent a lift trailer and see if I can take them down, should be close to half the price.

My wifes second cousin is in the hospital, had bypass surgery and now needs to recover as he had some minor problems after surgery. The wife goes to see him about once a week, his wife comes over daily from South Bay(near Lake Okeechobee on the south side).

Some more hour cuts where I work for third shift, I am on second shift so I am not affected as yet.

Mornin' All.

Lots of "May Gray" this morning, looks like it is starting to burn off.

Should be an interesting week, I take the boss to the airport Tuesday as she has clients in Sandy Eggo, would like to tag along but the carpenters are here building the sun room (that is, if the sun comes out and the rain goes away)

Jon, Is SWMBO just making a quick out & back? If she is here thru Sunday the museum should be "THE" place to be. It will be an "unofficial" Thomas & Friends day for the 3Railers.

Think maybe I'll set-up some "Little Tykes" characters as passengers in Annie and Clairibelle.

Thanks for checking the handcar Jim, don't think they'll work for what I have in mind. But I do have an alternative plan in the works. Evil

P.S. Jon, If this is her first flight into Sandy Eggo the landing approach can be a bit un-nerving, especially if the marine layer is pretty thick. Big Smile

RT, the mercedes is not a 4x4, which made the whole trip...shall we say, interesting!  Was a lot of fun.  Laz, don't worry, the moonpie was sealed, no grits.  Unfortunately RC went out of business about ten to fifteen years ago.

I forgot to mention that I also got a Korber models kit from Justrains that I need to assemble.  That will be my first such kit, but I look forward to it.  I am expecting another delivery from ChooChoo, that should go over wellWhistling  I think I will not only be on train restriction, but also on double secret probation!Black Eye

It was a great trip though.  I am not sure when I will be able to make the voyage again as I am sure wife will want to make a family vacation out of it.  This was a long time away from the family.  Now I need to catch up on my violin lessons.  Kids are sounding better than me!

Laz, sorry about the weather.  At least you don't have all the gnats!  You get used to it.  Just wait till its 80 degrees at 0500!  Your daily runs will take on a whole new challenge!

Hope everyone is having a great day,

Almost forgot...little funny story:  Chief and I were driving down one of the roads around MD/DC when we got buzzed by a BMW zig zagging through the traffic.  As he left us in the dust, we both said at the same time "is that Brent?"  Anyway, hope you made it home without any flashing lights behind you big guy!

Doug--

This is just one of many trips the boss makes to SD in a year, strictly for business.  I would be with her on this trip if weren't for the construction going on right now.  She could come back late Thursday night but opted for a morning flight on Friday AM, I know if she would have taken that red eye flight on Thursday she would just have gone to work on Friday, that makes no sense.  The next time she goes I'll have my best little buddy with me and we'll hit the zoo PLUS give you a call and see some trains.  I haven't been to SD since 1982 so it's time, great memories of that last trip, beautiful city.

Jon, Be sure to give me a heads-up when you are coming and I'll be sure to set-up some track time for you and your train buddy. You might even want to consider the Wild Animal Park as well as the zoo, most of the animals there are more or less in a natural environment instead of enclosures. Non-predatory of course. My grandson loves the place.

Also, if you want to take her to a ball game the Padres have weekend specials for $12 per person which is good for an upper level reserve seat, a hot dog, a coke and I think it also includes a bag of peanuts. Assuming it would be late summer early fall when you guys come out this way. Also fom the upper level, if the Padres stink up the place, you can do a little train watching in the yards just to the south of the ballpark. Approve
