RockIsland - When things look down, folks party harder during occasions like St Patty's Day...a need to forget about things for a bit.  Some folks just get carried away.  In our district we had a homicide, a gas station hold-up (arrests were made on both of those by the way) and a ton of Drunken Drivers (which will set them back 3-5 Vision steam engines...the big ones).  The doodle I had was on "greens" (hope that's not coming back)...and yes, he was Confederate Light infantry material.

Thanks RT for this one......it's worth repeating.

Irish Blessing:

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face

The rains fall soft upon your fields

And until we meet again

May God hold you in the palm of His Hand

Fife......rumor has it most of the arrests you made last night were guys from North Carolina.  Do you call that rednecking, redlining, or just plain profiling?

Lee.....I hear you about the eyeglasses and the expense of the lenses.  It's easy to rack up a $500 pair of glasses.  And that is without the automatic indoor/outdoor adjustment feature which supposedly negates the need for sunglasses.  I've been wearing contact lenses for 42 years but need glasses for reading or the ability to read the odometer in the car while driving, up close stuff.  So I got the Varilux lenses that have no prescription at the top half of the lenses and then the reading prescription kicks in, progressively stronger reading prescription as your line of sight moves toward the bottom of the lenses.  These work out well until the dog gets ahold of them. [banghead]  And you think you have scratches in the lenses.  Been mulling over laser corrective surgery.  Hope the MRI results come out in your favor.

Laz......we're over here on #5, not #4.  Folks think you died.

DougM......good luck finding a bonded, licensed, insured, and experienced roofer with references who will do simple repairs.  All most of them want to do is tear the whole thing off and start over or warn that "I can't guarantee.......you should do it right."  Life without a dishwasher.....what a pain.  This one is still under warranty, right?  Thanks for the picture of the Chicago River all decked out with green water for St. Patrick's Day.  I needed that!

Patrick.....don't pick up on all of those disparaging monikers Chief ascribes to folks of Northern descent, like SCALAWAGS and CARPETBAGGERS.  He is terribly conflicted because he can't reconcile how wonderful we truly are. Big Smile

Chief.....I owe you a phone call.  Also need to bone up on my drawl and Southern euphemisms.

MikeC....my wife can't bear to miss an episode of DWTS but takes unkindly to my suggestion she should go out and buy similar outfits. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Brent.....up my way, those cement noise barriers seem to always wind up abutting the upscale neighborhoods built long after the highways were built.  We are told by the state DOT,  the first to apply is the first to get scheduled......provided the DOT agrees there is a need.  Seems like they are fairly consistent with which neighborhoods they determine have the greatest need. Whistling

Later, gang....I mean, ya'll.

Jack

 Good morning all:

A Reminder - "Grits and Ice Tea Free Zone" in the Pot #5 title means no charge. They are free like the coffee.

Farm chores are done, now its time to install fence posts around a small pasture (on the train layout, NOT on the farm). The 2" foam top makes it easy to punch holes and glue in the posts, as well as trees, shrubs, power poles, Etc.

The Lowe's in our area has the 2" foam in 4' X 8' sheets.

Lee F - Speaking of needed rain, ever notice how most people, including weather forecasters, consider rain to be "bad weather"?

SJ - I tried to post a comment on CTT's current "Bob's Train Box" and they wouldn't post it. All I said was I enjoyed the segment, but a certain posted critical commenter needed to lighten up a bit.

Fife said - Lawson Farms - Good lookin' can.  Does one consume its contents chilled or at room temp? The answer is - Depends on how thirsty you are.

See all later.

Good morning all,

Overcast and 50s for today. Showers possible later. Gas is up to $1.95/.1.99. Strange thing yesterday I posted a thread on the other forum at the 3RS and they deleted it.(among others)Yet the regular forum will allow bash, insults, ect. doesn't make since. As usual I'm not sure what today will bring but I hope we all have a great day...S.J.

Good Morning,

Woke up to hear it raining about 5 am today. South Florida needs this rain really bad as we have been in a drought for almost three months, the drought index was around 810 the other day. Also should be raining for a few more days!

Went for an MRI yesterday, get the results later today or friday as the doctor is off on thursday. Also went and got new glasses as my other glasses were scratched up at work, $25.00 for the exam and $305.00 for the glasses, and that is with an optical insurance policy, without insurance $550.00.

The eye glass places that have adds: 2 pairs for $90.00 or less, NEWS FLASH!! that is just for the frames, NO lenses!!!!!

Put up some cloud scenes on the one wall in my train room, above my track that is mounted near the ceiling.

I think I will have to get off line as the power keeps blinking. I have a battery back-up unit for the computer just in case that happens, supposed to give 7 to 10 minutes of reserve power.

LAZ1957 and the Chief,  I hope they have not gone to the dark side.  But I must confess that I also read

the other forum some times.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Good Mornng from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 50 degrees. Sunny. Going up to 70 today with mostly sunshine.

Today is grocery shopping day. Wife has left for the big city. Gas prices are still at $1.85 a gallon. Food prices have continued to slowly rise. Wonder why ?  Must be bonus time.  I guess it's better than 4 bucks a gallon.

Dining car was here and we had Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Morning all. Supposed to be greyer and colder today and tomorrow. Bathroom slowly coming together. Gotta find someone to repair part of the roof. Always something, right? Ran the LNE boxcar last night on an inner loop where it doesn't derail.  I got an interesting email from Lionel about a 'road show' showing off their 2009 catalog items including Legacy/Vision with a stop at a Chicago hotel this Sat.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 70 again.  Busy night last night.  Took blades off mowers so they could get sharpened and started draining oil out of them.  I got license plate tags for another year (very short visit at BMV).  Did weights and soccer juggling at YMCA.  Did some Second Life and watched bits and pieces of "Dancing with the Stars".  The lady who was jilted on the "Bacherlor" was a last minute replacement on DTWS, but omg has she got some dance moves.  As Keith Jackson used to say, "Oh my mercy!"  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast this morning before sending it to "Points East".  IHEHAGD.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Maybe Laz was on one of his runs and his bear came out of hibernation with the warmer weather and gave chase.  The two of them are probably sitting in a bar somewhere sucking down some Ole Mils and celebrating St. Patrick's Day.  The bear may have Laz convinced that it was the bears that drove the snakes out of Ireland.

Fife and OleTimer - What gauls me is they build these HUGE homes right up on the highway and then complain about the noise and demand noise barriers (unsightly concrete walls) be built to reduce the noise... umm... HELLO IT IS CALLED A HIGHWAY!!!!!!!! That's like building your house next to a railroad and complaining about trains passing by... ummm.... oh yeah my wife did that WhistlingConfusedSign - DotsSign - Oops

Brent....Did you know that now if you modify a highway such that it can carry more traffic and relieve congestion,  the homeowners use this to get noise barriers.  In other words, if you change out the shoulder to a buses only lane, the existing lanes can carry more traffic and that equals noise walls.

Good job, RT.

Brutus, fire her up!  Happy Birthday Brent!  Happy St. Patrick's Day Y'All!  Brutus and Charlie, nice looking trains, look forward to more come SPF.  Regarding protecting our daughters, I think we worry because we know how we thought and what we did when we were that age....revenge.

Wife had told me over the phone that she was going to take the kids to the store so she could buy the son a new pair of sneakers.  When I got home, they had gone and bought all these clothes and accessories for the cruise....but honey, I have to save money for York....She don't careDisapprove

We had the new guy do two cases under our supervision today.  He did fine, but will need to get used to the routines.  I am looking forward to this guy taking some call.

Brent, from what I know about image stabilized lenses, you are better off with regular lenses, or having IS turned off when using a tripod.  When hand holding, the IS is much better.  I plan on keeping all my lenses.

God Bless,
Dennis
