Good Morning All and Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms.

It’s a great day in NE Ohio, Blue Clear Skies, temp is 70 deg going up to 78 today.

Good to hear that Chief did OK with his turkey, Spanky was worried that he might be next. Did hear anything on the news about Buckeye’s kitty, maybe he is still sleeping in.

Good morning as well, and happy mothers day to any mothers reading this. Looks like its gonna be a great day in central Ohio as well.

Does anyone have a copy of RR-track I could borrow? I don't have the $$$ to buy it, and don't want to buy it and not like it. They have a demo version on the website, but it has the words "under construction" on the page for the last year. I've been waiting. I've called and they say they don't intend to put one out. Thanks all.

Hey gang, brought home all of my rolling stock and two GP9's. Was going to bring home the switches and track [got some track here] along with boxes of buildings [and some buildings too large to box] but the car was full. Tomorrow, soaker hoses down in garden and tomato baskets set. Then the room starts going up into the attic. [:D]

Morning gang. Guess everyone is off to work [except Elliot and me]. When it comes to Dave, I use the word work, loosly. Have not heard from Buckeye so I wonder if he is like the lady from Niger, if he is inside the tiger????? Called Spankybird yesterday and the real Spankybird wanted to do all the talking. I hear that the migrant worker [Yankee] that tries to call himself a Texican is wearing sunglasses. Trying to keep his wife from knowing he is looking at his neighbor mowing grass. Glad to see Brian jumped in on the weighting of rolling stock. Tightening the trucks comments he made are right on. Well, off to a hard day's labor as a retiree [you bet]. God bless all.

Good Morning All,

Well being part of the still working group, it is off to work for another week. A quick check of the traffic cam shows a busy rush hour

We can always say it was the ore train that held us up.

Look better black clouds to the north over the lake, good change of T-stroms to day.

A huge decision was made over the weekend; to move the train layout from the basement to upstairs.

BTW, Tom, love those ore cars.

I see Jim lives in a really nice place in Texas. I live in the Dallas area for a couple of years and didn't really care for the hot, humid weather. If I ever went back to live there, I'd much rather go West, where it looks more like the Texas I saw as a kid in the cowboy and western movies. My favorites were the John Wayne movies or Clint Eastwood.

The weather in Virginia will be up in the 90s. Chief's North Carolina is terribly hot in the eastern part of the state; worse than Virginia. Was stationed for 3 years at Camp Lejeune in the early 70s and the weather was terrible and as a single guy, there weren't many available women within 100 miles or so.

Anyway, my daughter decided to move into the college dorm to experience "real" college life. Her bedroom is fairly big. I didn't measure it just yet, but about 20X20 or so with cathedral ceiling and overhead fan I installed.

I'm building a workout room downstairs in the basement where the heavy plates can safely hit the concrete if I should drop them. So, she's bequeathing me her bedroom for the train layout. Since I've already put up much of the benchwork, including most of the helix (over the weekend); I'm going to dismantle it and move it upstairs after she graduates next month.

BTW, when putting together the helix over the weekend, I discovered that the way to go is to definitely use those long threaded rods. The wood pieces just take up too much valuable real estate within the helix.

I'm going to construct a 3-level layout in her room with the helix and have until her graduation to come up with a suitable track plan.

Also, got the garden fully planted. Unfortunately, there's no beautiful women neighbors mowing their lawns in cool attire. They are a bit on the large size. Well, actually EXTRA large; fine sightseeing for some folks but hurts my vision.

Spanky, I checked out the smoke fluid site. It gave me an idea that could be fun, set up multiple smoke equipped buildings around the layout and set them up on some sort of timer. When you have guests checking out your layout turn on the building smoke. It would be funny to watch their reactions when they get a whiff of baking bread then coffee then bacon next is cinnamon rolls, etc.

We do have the bacon scent in our K-line diner with smoke and it does turn a lot of heads

It would be neat to do one after the other. Maybe I’ll have to work on that.

Just came back from Subway, it sunny, 85 deg, with south wind. Wish I was at home instead of work.

Morning all. Jim, all you have to do is go over to the neighbor's yard and lay in her grass. Bet that would go over good with the "home front". Hope to get some junk moved to attic today. Spent all yesterday putting down soaker hoses in garden and baskets around tomatoes. Then serviced my truck. Got my first of this year's squash and zuchinni from garden. Not a word from Buckeye?????? Tiger must have gotten him. All have a great day and God bless all.

Good Moring All,
A good day in NE Ohio, 62 deg going up to 80 deg with T-storms. Had some last night, and had to pull the plug around 9:00 pm.

Buckeye must be look for a big bowl of milk. Nothing on our local news about the kitty.

Being new to the forum, it is great to read the post on this thread. It helps to start the day off great. It looks like it will be up to 86 or higher in North Fl. Work on the layout is going slow, it gets hot out in the garage. I will try and post some pic once, I figure out how to do it.
Thanks

Hey Terry, welcome to the coffee pot. Tom [Spankybird] is the expert on posting pictures. He gives the best instructions. Not hard once you get to doing it. Have a great day and God bless. [I'll email Tom to get with you and give the instructions]

Nice to see that the Rogers Corner lion has been cornered. Makes a good case for 2nd Amendment rights, I suppose.

In a couple of months, we'll be trading our Macs for PCs and hopefully posting pictures will then be possible.

Not that I have anything to post, mind you; just a bunch of dusty train construction with a savage beagle running thru the rubble gnawing on the benchwork and looking for things to destroy.

Good morning all!

It's warm and muggy down here in Lower Alabama - cloudy with a chance of t-storms later today (I hope - it's DRY!)

Almost have my mainline finished! Some 42 inch curves I ordered finally arrived, so I should have the main running by the weekend. Then on to some serious block wiring. (Arrgghh!!!)

Good luck on the wiring Doc. Send me some of that rain. Very dry around the Capital of NC. Had to run soaker hoses in garden yeaterday to make it get up and go.

We need rain in my area. There are thunderstorms in DC but not out west of Manassas where I live in the rain shadow of the Shanendoah MTs.

The title of this thread: Pot of Coffee, reminds me of a WW I vet I used to know. He joined the Canadian Army at age 17 because he was too young for US Army. He went to France, surviving a torpedo attack on his ship, a bullet wound, and gasing. He said that one of the worst things about France and Belgium, besides the nasty trench life, was the lack of coffee. The bloaks drank tea all the time.

Afterwards, he went on to be a production manager and asssistant director of many movies incl. Wizard of Oz, Tora, Tora, Tora, North by Northwest, Green Hornet, Strange Cargo, and tons of other flicks & TV shows.

He returned in uniform during WWII, as a Marine this time, fighting on Iwo and other islands, suffering wounds. He was in charge of the photo section on Iwo.

He died several years ago. I did a full interview of him, published in Fortitudine in 1995. Also that year, he and I attended a Marine Corps Birthday Ball at the LA Century Plaza Hotel. There, he met a young French girl and sang her a song in French that he remembered when he was there. It brought a lot of tears to her eyes and she gave him a hug. I'll never forget Harrold Weinberger.

Got up this morning; fed dog, looked at my trains and went back to track planning stage; boarded VRE for nice 55 minute train ride to work. Walked 20 minutes from station to work; got on CTT forum. Now editing an Intermodal Rail article for my magazine, The Military Engineer. Nice to have a life revolving 100% around trains. I'm 47 and in all those years, never grew tired or bored with them.

No, Chief. There used to be trolleys but they tore up the tracks about 40 years ago.

I work in Old Town Alexandria, which is close to the Potomac River. I could run, and make it in 10, but would be dripping with sweat as humidity today is 84 percent and temps about 90. VRE used to pay for bus connections but a couple months ago they discontinued that. They always say they are strapped for cash; yet, ridership on VRE has increased 18% per year for the last decade. I think VRE mgt must be paying themselves big bonuses.

I requested via Freedom of Information Act, their expenditures and revenues spreadsheet and "administrative costs" have increased 500 percent during that time. Someone is getting rich off that train system that's for sure.

Well I'll guess I'll just jump right in here. It's going to be a hot and muggy day here in South Jersey. Too hot for my taste for this time of year so I guess I'll spend some time down in that nice cool basement running trains or I could mow the lawn. Nope I'll run trains.

Good morning, everyone!

It's 10:20 here and no, I'm not skipping school. I have a spare now and my house is right next door to the school, so I just go home and go on the forums when I have a spare. It's getting really cold over here. Many parts of the prairies have lots of snow. Not here, though, it's just cold. I'm going to be gone from the forums tomorrow and Friday. The senior French class in my school (which only consists of 8 people, including myself) is going on a trip to Winnipeg for those two days. This could get interesting, considering that Winnipeg has a foot of snow and the highways to there have been closed for the past two days.
