Good evening all,

It was a mild and sunny day in SE Indiana with temps in the 50s.  Did the housework, ran some of the Santa Fe equipment, walked the dog, and went to see "Night in the Museum with the wife, Lucas and his girlfriend.  It was a full house, and it was a good movie.  My sister's family is down here for dinner tomorrow and we have some friends over for New Year's Eve.  Tomorrow is my last day at the museum as well.  I will miss this thread, but I can see why we need to start a new one.  I hope we can keep this somewhere so we can go back and look at it.  I agree with some of the others in that there are a lot of memories here.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening everyone,

Well, I ran trains at the Morris Arboretum today. We had at least 1000 people come see the train display. Yesterday, there were 1200 in attendence. I took 3 videos, and a lot of pictures with my new camera. I think I will post some of them on Sunday Photo Fun.

I will miss this place, but we can make more history with a new one.

Well, off to watch CSI:Miami for the rest of tonight and into tomorrow morning (1AM)

Keith...good to see ya!  There's no need to put up that 1-800 billboard...if you need my picture it's posted in every post office ;)   BTW, the Corvairs are sleeping for the winter even though winter doesn't seem to be coming. I doubt we've had 2" of snow total this season with just a dusting on the ground right now.  Why did I buy a winter beater????  Thanks for the welcome back buddy!

Thank you too, John!  The bridge is still standing and recent inspection has shown it's holding up just as well as the real Hellgate.  I have to admit tho, there are times when I run some really heavy equipment that I wonder if it'll hold.  I ease my fears by eyeballing it down it's length while my 2 heaviest cross and there is absolutely no deflection.  After that I find myself wanting to grab the center span and see if I can hang from it...but then I come to my senses ;)

We'll start a new one.  Bet the post pile up faster on this one than the one before.  When it started, only about 5 or 6 posted to it.  Took a couple of days or more to fill a page.  Now it is mutipule pages per day.  Maybe David can figure out how to make the numbers stay and file away the past years.  Well, as you can see it is late [or early].  Finished wiring the left side switches to aux power and all the right side switches to their remotes.  Left side remotes to do now.  Holes are ready for the building in the next room.  Got a screwed up schedule next week and trip to NH first of the next.  Maybe.

BTW: Lionroar, got voice mail tonight when I called.  Will try again tomorrow.

Good night.

Chief, I like the pics. Is that really your back yard? It looks the size of Cheshire.

Off topic. Saddam's gone, let's hope that 2007 is a better year for all those unhappy benighted people suffering at the hands of extremists, and the senseless slaughter of the innocents stops.

No beavers here, but after some fools released Mink in the name of animal liberation, they have multiplied and are now classed as vermin after decimating the native fauna.

Come new year I shall be up there on the high iron in the new forum shovelling #9 into the box. Our loco men had a Dixie of hot tea hung on the boiler back head. I always start my day with a pint of strong hot sweet tea, coffee latte and cookies mid morning, great! (could this be a possible title for the new thread? Naahhh!).

Finally, may I wish all of you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous 2007.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a frosty 30 degrees with sunny skies. Going up to 52 today. It was a beautiful day, yesterday. I wonder how long this warm weather will last.

Today, I have a few chores to do around the house. Have to run to the Hardware store for a few things. Maybe run trains this afternoon. Next week I will begin working on the layout, several days a week.

Marty....Good luck in Denver.Whistling [:-^]

Good morning everyone,

Bruce welcome back. I was wondering where you had been.

Well, I have nothing planned for today. I might just go to a few peoples houses and watch TV, play pool, or play XBOX360. I hope everyone has a good day.

Marty good luck in Denver.

Morning all.  Sunny and warm but suppose to have rain for the holiday.  Off to Miss Edna's for a short visit.  Got to take the outside Christmas down.  Wife let me off from doing that yesterday.  Reason, she wanted to get allt he inside stuff up.

John B, and some folks throw fits if you wear fur.  Round them up and make mink coats.  I think mink coats look good on the ladies.

Glad Bruce is back.

Later.

Good Mornin All....

Got our inventory done yesterday, with the help of the extended family.  Then watched old films last night.  Made contact yesterday with an old Jr. High School friend, will probably see him later today.  Should be fun.

Chris has decided he needs some of those Christmas lights ropes, running around the top of his room.  He bought some yesterday so guess we will put them up.  The kid has a virtual Light Show in the room.  Thank gosh for poser strips.  At least will limit the current in that area.  (I do inspect the wiring in there periodically)

We are going to start restoring the El Camino, paint, interior, adding some flares on the side, and of course tires and wheels.  Meet with a local guy who probably had 15 of them, known as "El Camino Mike", he really knows his stuff!!

Got the dedicated Power Supply for DCS TIU, hooked something up wrong.  When power applied can't adjust A & D with any of the remotes.  Got a ground issue somewhere.

Going to put boxes away and figure out wiring today.

Have a great day

Chief - That's one great POND, if it was here their would be jet skiis all over it.

John - Got some train DVD's for Christmas, one of which has a real nice review of the Strasburg Railway.  Really beautiful scenery.

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!

Good morning from a grey and cooling Crystal Lake where it looks like snow and I was fortunate to finish all sorts of errands early this morning - men's small group, new carbon monox detector, oil change in the van, etc . Now to  clean the house so I can play with trains later. Happy New Years Eve Eve.

Morning, all!

It's a gray and dreary day in central Alabama. Rain and thunderstorms expected later.

I'm about to dismantle the Christmas layout. I thought about keeping it up a while longer, but too much else going on the next few weeks so now is a good time. It was fun while it lasted!

Morning all!

Hi ya Colin  Thanks for the welcome back.  Thought you should know you've got another PRR fan here.  Seems I equate Pennsylvania with trains since everytime I visit there I'm buying toy train stuff.  Had a field day earlier this fall at the Hershey swap meet searching for O and Standard gauge goodies.  My latest aquisition for the layout is the K-Line Torpedo with 5 aluminum cars.  Bought that set here and it's my first K-Line product ever.  A stunningly good looker and runner.  Of course I couldn't pass up RMT's Beep in PRR livery either although my GG1 does tend to haul a set of heavyweights better than the Beep.

Hey Chief!  How's the layout coming along?  If you're finished I could use some help up here.  I'll supply all the nails and 2x4's, sweet ice tea and grits too!

A early Happy Birthday goes out to Laz too.  You can start easing back on the throttle because on this side of 50 it's all down hill! Wink [;)]

Have a great weekend everyone....cheers!

John - Luckily the SAL steamers only had numbers with a small logo on the side of the engine.  The one he wants redone is a NYC so the loco only requires masking the number area on the cab, trying to remove the existing and repainting that area only.  I'm hoping I can find a satin black, maybe Krylon, that matches.  The tender will require removal of the  New York Central and a repaint of the sides.  To remove the existing numbers & letters I'll start with some mild removers, i.e. mineral spirits, and work my way up to xylene.  The trick is going to be to try to avoid painting more than necessary.

I did see your response about the CD's, thanks.

Good morning from a chilly Lower Arnold where my head feels stuffed and HURTS.  Maybe it's a cold.  Could be worse.  Too bad K-Line is defunct so I can't look forward to a Hanging Saddam Derrick Car.Evil [}:)]Shock [:O]  Went to Cracker Barrel for dinner and had the fish special (cod) with green beans and buscuits YUMMY!  Got another RH switch for my layout so I can run a spur to my sawmill.  Hope to get some work done once the kids have cleared away the ornament boxes and stuf out of my way.  Need to cut a new piece of wood to hold all the switch controls, activator controls and stuff - poor man's control panel.

Laz - Happy Birthday!  Hope Jim A is feeling better.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Well, it is a foggy day hear in Dixie.  Supposed to head to 80 this weekend.  Wife and I took the kids to Waffle house and had a good breakfast of grits, eggs, hashbrowns, and of course, sweet tea.  Then she took our son to get his hair cut at the salon she goes to.  They woo over him and he likes the attention.  Now she is back and I get to start on the layout work.  Planning to glue the foam board to the wood and to run some wires.  I am glad I read the "Tips" section of OGR about wiring for TMCC and DCS.  I know to wire a ground wire between the roof of the tunnels and the track below to prevent the mixed signals.  Anyway, hope to get trains running this week.

I look forward to the new pot of coffee with the Chief and the rest of this crew.

Got my new Reading Crusader train running.  Had to get bits and pieces from three different shops to complete it.  Will try to post some pics on Sunday Photo Fun.  Now I have to put some riders in the cars.  All are empty, RR can't make any money that way.

I figured out how to make FasTrack look sort of like Super O only not exactly. Lionel could easily do it without having to spend a bomb.

If you take off the centre rail, undo the tabs on the underside, you'll find a whole lot of gray plastic tabs. Also you'll need to keep the connecting pins and you might as well keep the power input tabs too.  Glue a bare copper ground wire to the top of the plastic tabs using CYA glue. Glue the connecting pins, which are seperate, back into their holes and solder the copper wire to them. It would probably be a good idea to cut a piece of rail to make a shroud for each pin to snug into.  Now make a sloped shelf duplicating the ties and ballast and glue it from the bottom of the outside rails to the top of the plastic tabs so the copper wire is just proud of it.  Its quite a lot of work for the prototype but it looks good, especially if you give the ballast a sort of rust brown wash which is the right color anyway, then the copper hardly shows.

What Lionel could do is to copper plate that centre rail and make a continuous soft plastic extrusion of wedge section to glue down on top of the original roadbed so that its almost flush with the copper plated rail. It would be better if they remade the rail to be thinner but then they might as well re-engineer the whole thing which they won't do as it wouldnt be worth it. However it wouldnt be hard to make a sort of DIY kit to let owner do it themselves. If I can find a suitable extrusion I'll do more than the one experimental straight.

Black Eye [B)]Ouch, ya hurt me big guy!  All the foam is down and I should be wiring this weekend.  Taking a little time off so I can watch the Ford funeral.  Mostly using it as a teaching lesson for my son.  I seem to only remember his being portrayed by Chevy Chase on Saturday Night Live.  Turns out he was quite a deep character, war hero, football hero, etc.

I have my computer up and running, so I hope to check in more often and to be in contact with some friends here more often too.  Take care,

Taking a break from layout work.  Just did a lot. [posting on Stop the Chief and pictures later]

Keith, no beavers trying to make dam at spillway.  Figured out how to stop them.  This is no joke.  PEE on the ground on both sides of the spillway.  They suddenly stopped.  I either marked it as my territory or they just don't like human scent.  Seen signs of them being around the pond but not at spillway and it is flowing strong [which they do not like and try to stop].

Jim A, is doing OK [he says].  Sounds horrible.  Claims he is going back to work Tuesday.  Hard headed.

Shame on you Keith!  No self respecting train guy with the name 1688torpedo would be caught dead in a Corvair!   Everyone knows you PRR guys drive Studebaker Loewy coupes!  Why, I oughta!  Nyuck Nyuck Nyuck  Wink [;)]

Seriously though, at one time I did own one of the mid '30's Lionel torpedo's.  It was an O27 version but I can't remember the number.  Sure wish I hadn't given it away.  The K-Line unit is a bit more scale but I'm surprised at the goofs in certain details.  Black instead of stainless colored nose grab rails...gold instead of stainless on some of the striping....stuff like that.  Also I'm shocked at how little info there seems to be about the real engine.  A real lack of photos out there too!
