I spent the better part of the day yesterday working on a video that I have wanted to do for a long while.  Finally had some help with cameras and putting it together, hard to do alone, lot of hours but IMO worth it, it's on Google.

I couldn't agree more.  The video is awesome. The video and music are tremendous.  I've watched it twice already.

Hi all! Cold and sunny this am in central Alabama. Warming up to the 60s today.

Jim, hope you get to feeling better!

Jon - great video! I enjoyed "riding" on your layout. Smile [:)]

Got most of the Christmas decorations down yesterday, except for the tree and the layout. The tree comes down this afternoon. The layout, hopefully, will stay a while longer.

Good morning everyone,

Well, the internet connection isn't what I want it to be right now. I went to BestBuy last night, and decided to go wireless. Only problem is that my laptop won't connect to the internet. Everything is installed correctly, but the internet is not being detected. I know a friend of the family that is good with this stuff, so I think I am going to get him to stop by today to help.

Oh, by the way, I got a very nice Panasonic Lumix camera for Christmas. I love it. The pictures it takes are clear, as well as the video.

Anyway, off to play XBOX360 at a friend's house, so talk to ya'll later.

Jon that ROCKED!  I even sent a link to my wife! Big Smile [:D]

I wish I could get my Lionel engines to smoke like the MTH engines do... it is so much more realistic.  Also, my wife and I first saw the operating MTH firehouse at a local train garden and we both like it more and more each time we see it!

Jon,

That Video is something. Tried to download it, another Gremlin stopped me, shouted Yahoo! The A-train was the Dukes theme tune? That sounded more like Kenton. I can't wait to get started.

John Bakeer--

The A Train was the Duke's tune, the recording I used was by Basie (original music from Dukes library but with today's Basie band and digital recording).  What I really like about that recording is the tempo--it's correct, not at 90mph.

Got back from spending Christmas in MD yesterday evening.  The only bad parts were the 12 hr. drive, each way, and the weather, rain or threat all weekend except driving home.  We did see some snow as we crossed the mountains in southern TN into NC.  Looked like they had a dusting while it rained at the lower elevations.

Visited a Christmas Garden, a.k.a. train layout, at one of the firehouses in Ellicott City.  It was a great layout for kids, very busy with a lot of operating accessories with buttons for the kids to push.  It appeared that all the trains were MTH, they're just down the road in Columbia, with a mix of operating accessories from Lionel, K-Line and MTH.  They were pretty crowded when we were there on Saturday so I couldn't find anyone to talk trains with.

The idea of getting the boys a starter set was quashed when I noticed how inquisitive the 2 yr. old is, a set of trains wouldn't stand a chance, and the limited space.  Oh well, there's always next year.

Sorry Jon,

The original A-train is the definitive Duke to me. Although you used a classic piece of jazz well played by a good band it is not Ellington. I would still like to get a download of the video though. Hey-ho!!

Well, that was fast: I converted the Corgi trolley using the Bowser motor in about 15 minutes. I also lost one of the lenses as the trolley raced around the layout. If I ever find it, I'll glue them instead of press them in. I also ran the  Rail Zepp just using the clockwork motor - it just about made it around the layout in a lap. I love how the prop spins.  Lastly, I ran the hobo hand cart - what a simple motor - with the slide pickup instead of a roller, it is very unforgiving. But I like to see the little guys work their arms off - found a figure too that had fallen off another engine while I was retrieving it.

I took the boys to that Eragon movie - that makes 3 movies in 24 hours - Charlotte's Web (slow), Holiday (total chick flick) and this one that looked like a complete rip-off of the LotR saga) but the 4 year old loved it.

Thanks for the heads-up re VHS to DVD, Don - I have been struggling with what to do about all our tapes. The pros around here want an unbelievable amount per ft. of tape. All I am looking for is a straight dup.

We have had a nice week off so far.  Spent lots of time chauffeuring the Mrs. to various shopping centers and such over the last few days. Today I was able to run trains for about 2 hours.  On the lower level I was running the Williams GP9 that Santa brought me.  I was running the K-Line Pymouth Switcher and Ore Cars on the top level. I haven't been able to get the K-Line Plymouth Switcher to smoke but I have to check the switches on the bottom.  I think I am going to change the couplers too.  The scale couplers just don't look right to me.

Tomorrow I am going to make a train shop run to see if there's anything interesting out there. I am kinda looking for the new Lionel Western Maryland 4-4-2 Steamer.  I also need to build some shelving under the layout ledge to store some excess motive power.  I may also have to order more of the metal shelving sections from Dechant's.  Too many trains is such a good problem to have.  Wink [;)]

I have also been thinking about making some changes to the layout.  I may have to work on some designs.

Take care,

Mitch

Chief, I had one of these on a new 054 I just installed while redoing my layout.  I used a small sheet metal screw and ran it through to the homosote base.  It worked, not exactly a good mechanical fix but it does in a pinch.

Jon,  Great video, I also sent a copy to my wife.

I'll be glad wheneverybody goes back to work and school. Smile [:)]  I recently purchased a laser cut kit of the 'J' tower.  Decided I would take some pictures of the real thing before I started it, so headed down to the Strasburg RR, where it is now located.  Forgot that a lot of folks have vacation this week and would be out shopping and doing things.  What a lot of traffic, took me about 1-1/4 hours to do what normally would take 45 minutes.  Took about 30 pictures from all sides and angles.  Couldn't find a parking space so I made one at the end of the last row.  I was only there about 10 minutes so no one bothered me.  Talked to one of the employees and he said they were surprised by the crowd, as they would have put on an extra train if they had known that many people would be there.

Stopped at Cool Trains on the way home and picked up a couple of inexpensive cars (flat & gondola) for the granddaughter.  She likes to haul her dinosaurs around the loop.

Good evening all,

It was a beautiful day in SE Indiana with temps near 50.  It just gets better the next two days.  We went to the sister-in-law's today.  I took Lucas and one of his cousins to a Barnes and Noble and to the mall.  He and she got some books and he got a video game at the mall.  Later on the wife got a Stephen King book and a Christmas music CD with Bruce Springsteen's version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town".  While in the mall, the Target had six of their Lionel Lines sets for $175, which is a good price, but more than I can afford right now.  I hope all of those who might be interested could take advantage of the set.  The next three days will be busy.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Would not have been a right hand 054 would it? Yes, I thought of that as my next step.  Not too good of a job with quality control.  They work so good though.  Being able to move the switch machine from one side to the other is great.

Gooood night.

Busy, Busy Day ---

Took the day off to organize some boxes and storage space, but

Due to the excessive winds (up to 60mph) had to clean up patio and pool.  Then needed to get the outside Christmas decorations down, more wind expected in the next day or two.  So that shot the afternoon.

Did manage to get a service call into MTH, for an RA number.  My Rail King Big Boy has a very aggressive attitude recently.  Talk about great customer service, even though the engine is over 3 years old, but since I only purchased it 9 months ago, it is still under warranty!! No problem argument or hassle!

Speaking of Customer Service, grate experience with Electric RR, (posted specific thread).

Picked up a TIU, Z500 power supply for next to nothing.  Now to see if I can get everything rewired correctly.

Finally, topped the evening off with a phone call with Kieth (1688 Torpedo), very good call! Sending my 1688 to him for restoring.  Unfortunately, I had to cut the call short, my wife was waiting at the door to go for dinner.

Jon ---- That video is fabulous !!!!

Good morning, everyone.

We ran some trains last night. First up was our post war 2056 pulling a set of new NYC streamliners. Then a Santa Fe FT AB set pulled the same cars (I was feeling a little lazy last night - didn't want to switch the whole train).

Got a call yesterday that informed me the kid's new James locomotive is in. Will stop by today and pick it up.

Since this is my last day on the computer until 2007, I want to wish all my friends here a very safe, happy, healthy, and prosperous new year! I think the world of you guys.

Peace,

Jim

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a frosty 30 degrees with blue skies. Going up to 54 today and sun.

Today, I am driving up to Cambridge for grocery shopping. Not a great job, but at least I get out and about. It's going to be a quiet New Year's Eve. Kids are going to parties. I like to stay home on that night.

Gas prices are staying around $2.25 a gallon. Still a ripoff. Other than that, it is a pretty normal week.

Time for breakfast in the Dining Car. Later.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good morning from a quiet and grey Crystal Lake where the bride and I are trying to go on a date (together ;) each day while I have this week off.

I still can't figure out how I've inadvertently isolated a portion of the main line between two switches. I thought I isolated the siding between the switches using two fiber pins in one of the outer rails. So that's today's project. We're required to have carbon monox detectors by Jan. 1st in our homes - guess what - the price has tripled this past week. Think I'll wait a bit.

Happy early New Year, Jim A.

Chuck, I like to stay in on NYE too - especially this one with the Bears playing late. I think we're going over to the neighbors.

Morning to one and all...

Awoke this morning to a very chilly 26 degrees!  Frost on the car too! Angry [:(!]

Not much going on in the office today - so I may actually attempt to get something accomplished since this is the last working day of 2006! Big Smile [:D]Yeah!! [yeah]

Ran the trains some last night... if I get my paper written for school I may actually get to run them again tonight and some tomorrow - unless we dismantle the Christmas tree and the train garden is once again relegated to the basement! Sad [:(]
