Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a frosty 29 degrees and sunny. Going up to only 45 today, but the sun is suppose to shine. That helps.

Today is a good day to work on the layout. Have a few chores to do and then , I am spending time in the train room. I have to figure out how much track I will need. Have plenty of curved.

Chief....You have a safe flight. Keep in touch.

Well, off to the Dining Car. Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Good morning all,

It is cold but sunny in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s today.  I went to the Y and watched "Lost".  Also helped my dad balance the checkbook.  My mom did it for 52 years, and now I have to teach him how to do it.  He was talking about getting a new car, and we looked over the medical bills.  Lucas is home sick today with a cold.  His immune system is not quite as strong as it needs to be yet.  My wife is staying with him.  We are also "dog sitting" one of the daughter's dogs (long story).  Pets may have some value, but I think they are more nuisance than benefit.  Leaves are falling, and I may get out and get some of them up this weekend.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning from a grey and cold northeastern Illinois. Have a smooth flight, Chief.

Cough getting worse. I got stronger medicine. Bride wants me to rest. Gotta take down the trampoline and rake leaves first. Then rest. Or rather, then work. Have a morning conference call. Neighbors bought over another stray cat last night: it was crying in their yard - actually said they don't want it in their nice home - know we're soft-hearts. Guess I'll end up looking for a home for it.

Always want the kids to be respectful - of one another, us parents, other adults. Even the youngest. We follow Jim A's system... I miss the yes sir, no ma'am days.

Cold this morning and warming to 49 degrees.  John Bakeer - is that -2 fahrenheit or celsius?  Son wanted to run the train last night, he was over figuring which way the train would go with the switches set this way or that, but my wife was making girlscout phone calls all night so no luck before his bedtime.  I'm out of allowance still for another 2 weeks, but I bid on some train cars on ebay anyway Evil [}:)]  (shhhh - don't tell SWMBO!)

Wow! . . . National Sausage Week!Dinner [dinner]

Now there's something we need to import from the Brits! Big Smile [:D] By the way, John B., hope that the procedure on your finger goes well. Thumbs Up [tup]

Cold and dreary in central Alabama today. More like winter than autumn. The leaves are beautiful around here, but with the cold snap they will drop off the trees quickly. Guess I'll be mulching leaves pretty soon.

Still negotiating right of way for a Christmas layout. The new dining table precludes using the dining room this year (who actually eats in a dining room anyway? Disapprove [V] ) The wife is all for a layout (to diplay her Dept. 56!) but we still have not come up with a suitable space. Neither of us want to go the floor route. The garage would allow a larger layout but in less comfortable surroundings. Might squeeze a longer, narrower layout in the foyer ? . . . Hmmm. Back to the drawing board, or software in this case.

National Sausage Week you say? What are you celebrating next week over there?

Cold and overcast here today. I just went outside for a weather check. Yup. There's weather out there! It was raining earlier. At least that's moved on.

Morning all!

Kevin - no return trip plans at this time. My wife's sisters are both retired now and they have both bought winter homes in Surprise, AZ, northwest of Phoenix. They are now summering in Anchorage and wintering in AZ. They pointed out to us that there are very few retirement homes in Anchorage. Too much ice in the winter. Not good for the infirm. I liked the signs at the grocery store for everyone to take their "cat tracks" off at the door. For the uninitiated, "cat tracks" are ice spikes that slip onto the bottoms of your shoes.

Nice and cool here. High 50's or low 60's again. Normal for this time of year is 70.

Doug - get well soon!

Ice cold RC Cola with a package of Tom's salted peanuts dumped in - those were the days! For me, an RC was the drink in between the fruitiness of a DP (have one at 10, 2 and 6?) and the sharper tanginess of a Coke.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Several of you Southerners have made mention of putting peanuts in your soda and then rave about how good it tastes. I can't imagine who came up with that practice, but it sounds nasty! What is so good about peanuts floating around in soda? We don't do that kind of thing up here in Moxie country.

Jim - you should try the peanuts in the Pepsi or Coke trick, it's great.  Use plain salted peanuts, not beer nuts and NO SHELLS!  LOL  You might also like to try some milk in your Pepsi!

The only reason, Southerners put the peanuts in soda is to swallow them whole. They don't have any teeth to chew with.

Angry squirrel attacks Pa. letter carrier
Associated Press
Thursday, November 2, 2006 8:44 AM

OIL CITY, Pa. (AP) -- Letter carriers occasionally have to deal with angry dogs or maybe even a spider's nest in a mailbox, but a mean squirrel? Barb Dougherty, a 30-year Postal Service employee, said she was attacked and bitten Monday by a squirrel while delivering mail in Oil City, about 75 miles north of Pittsburgh.

"It was a freak thing. It was traumatic," Dougherty told The Derrick in Oil City. "I saw it there on the porch, put the mail in the box and turned to walk away and it jumped on me."

The animal ran up her leg and onto her back, she said.

"I eventually got a hold of the tail and pulled it off me," Dougherty said. "No one was home at the house where I was delivering the mail, but the neighbor lady heard me screaming and came over."

AP_Tacoda_AMS_DDC_addPair("SECTION", "STRANGE") AP_Tacoda_AMS_DDC("http://te.ap.org/tte/blank.gif", "1.0")

An ambulance took Dougherty to the hospital, where she was treated for cuts and scratches. The squirrel was killed with a BB gun and sent to a lab to be tested for rabies. Dougherty was given the first series of rabies shots as a precaution.

Postal officials said the attack is extraordinary.

"In about 230 years of postal history, I bet it is not the first, but I've personally never heard of another squirrel biting," said Steve Kochersperger, spokesman for the Erie district.

Squirrels do not frequently bite people, said Regis Senko, who works for the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Steve Jolley, a Postal Service manager in Oil City, said, "We are not issuing a squirrel alert, but everyone is aware of the incident."

Hey Guys, I am tired, no sleep and a early case today.  I did get alot accomplished on the layout last night and plan on getting more done tonight if I can get a nap in.  Won a set of Williams Passenger cars custom painted by Chuck Brown in Lackawanna livery.  I don't know who Chuck Brown is, but the seller is one reccomended by someone on this site and so I trusted his discription and the photos look great.

If anyone knows who Chuck Brown is and any information on his work, it would be appreciated if you clued me in.

Thanks, Dennis

Good evening all,

The forum sure has picked up from the Summer doldrums.  Had a lot to read since last evening.

Had a busy day, haircut, fitness center, lunch, office for an hour of CAD instruction to the estimator, work on greenhouse and lawn.  Now finally sitting at the computer.

Dennis, I saw that set listed on ebay.  Being a Lackawanna fan I generally have an active search going for Lackawanna.  Very nice set, but I have no clue who Chuck Brown is.

Chief, Hope you have a nice trip.

Doug, Take care of that cough, don't over do it and make it worse.

John B., Good luck with your surgery.  BTW which is the correct spelling of your name?  In your posts it is spelled both with one e and with two.

The weatherman here is predicting the coldest night so far this fall.  That might convince my Maples that they should drop all their leaves.  So far just enough to be annoying.

All have a good evening,

Nstrackman,

I would really like to have the K-Line alluminum passenger set in Lackawanna livery as it would go with the newF3 set I got.  These look good and I got them for under $100.00 so I can't complain.  I believe these are the first "custom" cars I have purchased.  They are nice looking, but I wish they had the black roofs.

I have seen the lionel ones that you purchased, they are very nice too.  As you mention, they are pricey.

Getting down to freezing at night lately - I shut off the outside water lines and opened the faucets, put up the hose under the deck and winterized the lawnmower (Stabil in the gas etc).  Anybody watching Survivor: Cook Island?  So far it's pretty good, but not enough great challenges.

Well, no OT this weekend and the only Saturday scheduled is the weekend my wife is scrapbooking and cubscouts are doing their canned food pickup, so won't be able to work that day.  There are 3 Saturdays scheduled OT in December, but the first one isn't good due to family stuff.

Changed a bunch of lightbulbs when I got home tonight.  They all seem to go at the same time.  I noticed the ones she's been buying have "natural" lighting, but they don't last nearly as long as the "unnatural" ones we grew up on... :(

Dr. John - correct me if you have a different take on this, but the peanuts in the soda only work in a glass bottle for me.  I've tried it in a can, and it's not he same and also a hassle getting the peanuts out.  I tried milk and Pepsi when they showed it on Laverne and Shirley and it's not bad, but I haven't had it since then I guess.

It's getting cold down here in Virginia tonight. In the low 40's already.
Spent the day draining the pumps on my fire engines and winterizing
them. They are stored in unheated buildings. Will be using them for a
couple of Christmas parades. Finished tweaking my Standard Gauge
layout last night for the Christmas season. Will start this weekend on
the O Gauge layout. Want to install a bridge that my late Dad built and
possibly wire in a few new accessories for the Grandchildren to play
with. Supposed to actually go into the high 20's tomorrow night!

No trick or treaters this time. We don't get them as we are out in the
country and our house is way off the road. You can actually miss us at
night. Love the privacy! I need the number for your exterminator as I
need to have the area sprayed for YANKEES!  They are all moving
here and then turning it into WHERE THEY WERE FROM!

Jim, I've only tried it with the glass bottles. I think peanuts in a canned Coke is something on the lines of blasphemy! Wink [;)] I really don't know why it has to be a glass bottle, but it sure does seem to work and taste better. To really do it right, it's supposed to be one of the small, 8 oz. bottles.
