Doug, Just goes to show that the media can find the one idiot in the division to interview. Have friends in Iraq now and since they have small children, they are making a huge sacrifice. I agree about enforcing the rules and send that Lt. Nobody to a few years of hard labor.

Currently watching "Voyages" on History International, it is about Trains in Warfare. Right now they are talking about Stonewall Jackson and his raid on the B&O where he got 53 yankee locos and 300 railcars. Lots of great photos.

Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh....

Or in other words, I got my diesel horns working for the first time.
First I soldered 12 diodes and two contact switches together, but did not work. Now, I purchased an horn controller on Ebay and the horns work even on my Marklin 220 V, 50 Hz transformer.
The GP9 (Lionel 28514) sounds like a distorted door bell, the SD28 (Lionel 18834) is a little softer and more diesel horn like, although you could still use it as door bell... Do we all have door bells running on our tracks or is this a 50 Hz / 60 Hz frequency issue?

BTW, nice pond chief.
Nothing beats a finished and restored train car......

Well, finally got through with work for the day - had to move a bunch of stuff today and I'm up to my eyeballs in dust! Kids started swim practice last night.

Sorry about the D-Day good, I thought it was in 1942, so I searched on that. It was the 3rd day of Midway. Guess Sr. Olympia would paddle my hands for that goof. 'Cept she quit the sisterhood and went out on her own the year after I was in her class. Maybe I scared her?

Buckeye - very sorry about those kids and I pray for their family and friends that will miss them.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Buckeye is getting to ride on an airplane tonight. Walking the tracks will come at a later time when the copperheads and rattlesnakes are out sunning themselves on the warm roadbed. I have ran into a few in my career, but so far I haven't seen LAZ's 800 lb bear.

The little lieutenant is going to discover the long arm of the military now and in the future.

is it a '-0' (locosounds) or '-1' (protosound] [?]

I have the B& O verison of the same engine in protosound. It is the same as anyother PS1 engine.

Good evening,

Don, I used a wireless micro color cam that I bought several years ago at a train show. I had it riding on a flat car for a while. They started to make a power supply for it that uses track power rather than a battery so I decided to put it in the cab of an FA unit ( I was running the AA unit with the dummy in front and the powered unit pushing the dummy). This setup gave me more room to install the camera, which is really small and the power unit for it. I also have the PC board for the TSA high intensity head light in this unit. I just ran it for a test and had the wife down to check it out. Looks neat on the TV screen, just like you are riding in the cab. I mounted it back about an inch from the cab windshield and you do not notice it is in there. Now if I can figure out how to get the video into the computer I could post a video clip. Any help out there?

Laz, TAS has a K-Line mikado on their web site with the smoke unit installed. When I called about ordering EOB for mine I asked how hard it was to install the smoke unit. They said they don't recomend it as the guy who did the one in the video had to do major work to make it fit. I passed on ordering the smoke unit.

Doug, (dougdagrump) I am with you 100% on that Lt. What ever he gets is to good.

Chief, Why would you ever want to leave home?

David, I don't watch a lot of TV, I have it on a lot since I can see it from both my computer and the control panel of my layout. Right now I have Modern Marvels on the History Channel, showing how a modern dredge works. Some neat stuff on that show.

Marty, Glad you got a good review.

Back to trains. My next project is to build a small stockyard on the layout to provide a place to park some stock cars.

Have a pleasent evening.

Got chores done. More plants planted in garden. Got squash, cucumbers and tomatoes. My first tomatoes of the season. Had a gooooood tomato sandwich. [^] Now getting bills paid on computer [State Employee CU offers it free]. Wife still writes checks. [V] Shipped my two MTH SD60's off to a buddy in PA. He bought them. Got replacement balast tamper. Thought it did not tamp like the other one. Then I saw a tiny movement of the middle tampers. Unless it loosens up, poor quality. Should vibrate good [I would think]. It also has only one pickup roller and a copper slide like shoe????? Talked to Apitz this PM. Hope he is feeling better. Down in the dumps over lots of rain and etc. They are due 8 more inches in the next few days [predicted]. Told him to share with me as I need several inches to wet things and bring pond back up. Hello All! Chief- I like your pond. Looks like a nice area to reside in. Dave- I do not miss or watch too much TV myself. You're not missing anything there. Laz - You'll have to take a photo of your Smoking Mowhawk for Sunday (smoking) Photo Fun. Does it smoke Camels also?[;)][:o)] Too bad our Military does not have men like General Patton in it now. He would fix that Lieutenant soldier for good & the Iraqi Insurgents, Osama, & the military funeral protesters as well. Patton was the only General the *** feared in World War Two. If someone like him was in Iraq today I'm sure our situation would be different & better. Marty- It's nice you got a good review. Hopefully it was more than some nice words. Take Care all.

Hello all!

Made it back alive from NYC. Had a GREAT time!

Saw the Battery, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (did not know nor plan for it to be an all day trip! 1.5 hour wait just to get on the boat).
Went to Remi's for some great Italian food as Dennis suggested.
Overpaid for some tickets to Wicked at the Gershwin Theater and it was worth every cent and then some.
Ate at some diners.
Rode the subway a lot.
Visited Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, 5th Ave, Rockefeller Plaza, and Wall St.
Took wife to Tavern on the Green and had an early dinner before the show in the Crystal Room (At least that is what they used to call it when I was last there 23 years ago).
Taxi drove past the real Hellgate bridge over the East River on the way to LaGuardia this afternoon.

Did not make it to Empire State Building (Wife HATES heights - found this out in Paris years ago when we got to the thrid level of the Eiffel Tower. Did you know Eiffel designed the inner support structure of the Statue of Liberty?).

On one subway ride the train ground to a halt midway between platforms. After a while heard yelling and screaming outside the car. We were on the Red (1,2,3) Line headed uptown (incredible 4 track underground main lines). After a while heard more yelling and screaming. Then after a while 5 transit police ran by the car. After a while longer we finally took off again. Entire system backed up. Every platform full and train then jammed up.. All due to a 15 min delay! Some MTA workers sitting across from us said it was probably someone had gotten onto the tracks. Afterwards my wife confessed she was really scared due to her memory of Madrid and London events in the past year. I didn't think much off it but marveled at how a 15 min outage jammed the entire line. One poor girl standing next to us was very upset as she was already late for her HS commencement and then the trains stopped. Hopefully she made it.

Good to be home. Have a lot of catching up to do.

Have a great evening all!
Roy

Regards, Roy

Well I'm done with my plane ride, and here I am back in the South. My 1 hour 18 minute flight from Buckeyeland to Dullas, VA was uneventful. Meetings all day tomorrow and then back on the plane for the ride home.

Roy, isn't it great to be back in Texas where people only speak English and Spanish. On my last trip NYC I had a real hard time learning Ethopian, Somalian, Frazee, and Russian from my cab drivers.

LAZ, More time for golf!!!

I too contacted TAS about putting their smoke unit in my K-Line Mikado and they told me to forget it because of the reverse angle of the can motor.

Marty, since all of us have seen your work, we all knew you were going to do real good. When you get to be a director or whatever it is, you can open each sporting event using a big diesel roaring into the event city.

Many of those activities for kids (or adults), such as dance, karate, hockey, student travel ambassadors, etc. are a fast way to part with one's money. Some of of our kids at school are so over-scheduled with activities, they never have time to really play or even bother with homework.

We really have two extremes, kids who are over-scheduled, or kids whose parents are so busy with their own issues (work, relationships, dependencies) that the kids raise themselves or run the streeets. The people who I have the most empathy for are some of the grandparents who have raised their own kids and are now raisng their grandchildren or in some cases their great-grandchildren.

Well after my rant, I am off of my soapbox. Good morning from Gettysburg. Currently it's 62. High to get to about 78.

Hope the rain holds off until we fini***he farewell assembly for Grade 5. Yesterday's assembly for Grade 4 went off without a hitch. Parents. teachers and students alike seemed pleased. I hope today goes just as well.

Got the wheels on the 248. Greased the motor, sat it on the track and it ran. Hesitates a little on the 022 switches, but I think that is just a pre-war thing, my 1688 does the same thing. The voltage on the transformer had to be way up. Have to clean the armature, etc. to see if that speed things up a little. I have to go to Radio Shack and get some contact cleaner.

Still pondering how to strip and paint it . May hae to order some trim parts. Posted a thread looking for some advice. If the 248 turns out OK I might tackle the other two cars in the set.

Have a good day.

Checked my mail and see that Amazon is shipping my copy of "Emperor of the North", I am looking forward to seeing it.

Have a great day.

Good morning,

Just got the grandson started on finishing up the mowing. He got rained out halfway through it yesterday.

Laz, Chuck beat me to it. I was going to ask if all the teachers are required to attend or just the Characters?

QUOTE: The people who I have the most empathy for are some of the grandparents who have raised their own kids and are now raisng their grandchildren or in some cases their great-grandchildren.

Mitch, I have known several good people in this situation and it is really sad. They sacrifice a lot to get the kids started off right.

Chief, Hope you have a smooth flight. Does Cincinnati have any good train shops? Haven't been in that town since I was at Ft. Knox in the 60's.

Chuck, It sounds like you are getting out and about more. Glad your recovery is coming along.

Buckeye, I think DC is probably worse than NYC for the variety of languages. Just walking the sidewalk at times you wonder if anyone else speaks english.

I noticed that now there is a movement in Washington to make engli***he national language. It is probably to late. With all the minority organizations that will be opposed it will probably never pass.

All have a good day.
