In from working outside in the dark [JD mower has lights]. Sucked up the last of the leaves on the front lawn, put down lime and fertilizer. Earlier I weedeated the loriopy [someone spell it right for me [:)] spell check has no idea] and got it up. Exhausted for a sick old man. Did check the pond in the woods and hauled my grapevine trimmings to the woods. Later

Evening guys,

It's been a few days since I got to the coffee pot. The weather was warm here today but the bottom will fall out tonight with high winds, temps dropping 30+ degrees and snow arriving in the morning. I guess this is some storm system that is coming in.

I would like to ask you all to keep a young man (18 years old) from West Virginia in your prayers. His name is Ben and he was in a car accident last week and is still in critical condition. He's a good kid that I work with in youth ministry here in the Northeast. This is a difficult time for his family also.

I think there is a train show in the Cleveland area on Saturday. Can one of you OTTS guys fill me in on that one? I would need directions coming from the east on I-90. I would like to meet up with any of you that will be there on Saturday.

Mitch- I never did catch where you are a school administrator and at what kind of school you're in.

Chief - Was that picture of a family I saw in a post your family?

have a good evening everyone.

Have to decide which route to take - uo through Kansas and then west or through the TX panhandle. There are two wildfires in the pan-handle (one has burned over 100,000acres and the other over 200,000) and I haven't been able to establish where they are in respect to the drive. Important as they closed the highways yesterday due to smoke - but they didn't say which ones??? A call to TXDoT is in order.

Roy,
Have a great time skiing. We got a fresh 10 inches last week but have not been able to go in the last 2 wks. That pesky work thing.

If you go through the panhandle wave when you go thru Claude and Chilicothe, 2 of my favorite places...Tim

Tom,

I am an administrator in an elementary school in Carroll County, MD which just south of the Mason Dixon line. We have over 800 students this year but we are moving Grade 5 to Middle School until the new elementary school is built (hopefully opening in August 2008).

I will keep your young friend Ben in my thoughts and prayers.

Evening guys,
Monto, "ides of March" is the 15th, so I doubt it's that. I had to help out with an emergency case tonight, so only caught the last part of the "Trains and Locomotives" episode on the C&LE RR. What I saw of it was great. Amazing how fast and smooth those interurbans moved. The tell me the high today got into the upper 80's but I was in a cold room till past the heat of the day.
Hope y'all have a good one.
Dennis

Thanks for the prayers Mitch. Up until this spring I was an elementary principal. It was a tough building. We had 85% free lunch with a high at risk population. I was lucky to have a great staff that worked hard.

Yep Tom there is one. IT's one of the largest in NE Ohio, NMRA Div 5 show at Lakeland Community College. Very simple to find, Take I-90 to Rt 306 exit, and its a 1/2 mile south of I-90 on Rt 306.

This is a two day show, Sat and Sun, 10:00 am to 4:00pm, 300 tables, 3 gyms full of trains in all gauges.

OTTS boy will be there on Sat morning then going down to the museum after.

Good evening all,

It takes longer each day to read all the posts.

Not much happening with the trains today. Took two mowers in for tuneups for summer. Took the cat to the vet for annual checkup. Went to lunch with my HS class '57, we do this once a month, It lasted from 1:30 to 4:00, seems we have a lot to talk about. In between did a little greenhouse work.

I am redoing and lighting up another Walthers background building.

All have a nice evening,

Doug, here is the parts list for a GG-1 with pantograph. You would have to get the mounting stud and the four insulators. Mounting would involve installing the mounting stud and drilling four holes to accept the four insulators. The pantograph snaps to the mounting stud and the four insulators keep in in alignment.

Doug,

After I posted the above link, I checked and it doesn't look like Lionel has that part. I did find the pantograph for the Lionel 2332 ( a postwar GG-1) on the hobbysurplus site, see page 44 in the following link. It is priced at $13.00. Hope this helps. Olsen may have them as well.

CTT server is acting up. I sent email to their IMS person. Was locking up and sometimes giving "server error". You hit back, you get your original post back, hit post and it double posts. If you don't, your original post is gone. Does that off and on.

Family picture is of my newly adopted family. Its Dennis Weimer, wife and kids. Great folks. Hope to get to know them more. They are always happy even if the little one is being "18 months" old. Dennis seems to be "the glass is always half full" type of guy. He is the guy [well his counter part here] that kept me alive when I had open heart surgery. Bed time. God bless all.

Good evening, all.

Looks like our warm spell is about over. Temps to drop back into the 30s by Wednesday morning. Tomorrow's high only 60 after three days near 80. Typical late winter weather in Dixie.

Chief, don't over-do it while you're sick. Hope you shake whatever's got you down. BTW, I think that stuff is spelled "Lariope." I used to call it Larry-ope til my brother in law corrected me. Sure is spelled funny. Trimmed mine back last weekend and pruned the crepe myrtles and river birch trees. Ran the mower to pick up leaves - no green grass yet.

Good night!

PE Tim - we are probably going to avoid the panhandle and drive up via Kansas to I-70 and head west. Over a million acres have burned in Amarillo area and some major highways closed due to visibility. Update - News just showed a 7 mile backup, but did not specify which highway. Since they mentioned Groom, Clarendon, and McLean - this means I-40 and US 287. 287 is what we would take. So it looks like we take the REALLY boring route through Kansas.

"See" you guys next week!

Regards, Roy

Tom - Sounds like a tough situation. Ours is a pretty much rural/suburban setting. Only about 12 percent free lunch (which is more than double the average for the district) Most students are very well-behaved with very supportive families. However, with 800+ students there are always a few. Last week I had to suspend two first graders for various infractions. Believe it or not first grade is the toughest population right now. Lots of issues - behavioral, emotional, social and academic.

I worked on our layout last night for the first time in well over a week. Added some nice trees from Woodland Scenics and really like the looks of them. I'm not following any particular game plan. Just kinda winging it. Some things work out. Others, not so great.

Not much else is new. I'm heading to the drug store today after work to develop my conifer tree photos. Sorry for the delay. Been busy with work and catching up on things at home.
Will post those photos soon!

Good morning all,

It is sunny and much colder in SE Indiana with temps only in the 40s for the highs. I went to Y when it was in the 60s and it had already dropped to the 50s when I came out. That is one of the sayings about Indiana, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it will change." I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 34 and heading to down to 30 with snow falling in some areas. Max of 4” is expected. 12 hours ago it was 65 degs.

Looks like this weather is due to Chiefs plans to invade Lower Ohio.

RailFest – NMRA Div 5 train meet. March 18 & 19. 300 tables. Largest show in NE Ohio

Tonight we will be putting some finishing touches on the Museum tin plate layout for this weekends show.

Hi all,
I got a CD from CTT titled Dream-Plan-Build. Pretty neat. Nice layouts, how-to's, and real train footage.
It's overcast and windy in Portsmouth.
I received the Clever Models buildings and started putting them together. A little dissapointed. No assembly instructions! Looks neat when done. Hope to work on the Quansant hut later today and will post results. Glass shop finished cutting the glass for my train shelves so I'll be picking them up today.
Lots of studying, finals coming up, term paper to write, off till Friday so much to do.

Another good pic Tom.

Cold here today. The contractor should come by some time today and we'll all work out the new siding and get good measurements on the house etc. The insurance guy sent us a report but all the measurements are short! It's really obvious, because the garage is 5 feet short or more right off the bat. Oh well, it'll all get worked out in the end.

SWMBO is getting a root canal this morning. Then she will get 2 crowns and a couple cavaties filled and hopefully be done for the year. Cost us about $4K. Still trying to figure out if we can afford to fini***he basement this year and then if we want to move. I sure would like to have all that open basement in a new house to build a nice train layout.... Maybe combine with a big screen TV and a few recliners!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
